Alright, just got myself a Surround, and have had experience with a TYTN II. Now, heres my problems.
Problem 1. Connecting to the pc.... All it does is open up zune, thats it. I have Windows 7 x64 and it didnt come with jack as far as syncing programs. I have installed WMDC, and tied using the sync option in control panel. Even when I plug the phone in, it wont open up jack and windows update wont pick up anything.
Problem 2. WTF is HSPL and PSFJDSKAFJDSAK wtf ever its called? Their is nothing supporting that first installation required for a ROM flash.
so, where I am at right now is stock Surround with: 7.5
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
All that's supposed to open up is Zune. Zune is what syncs your phone, similar to an iphone and itunes.
If you want to learn about HSPL and how to flash a rom, look around a bit. It's not that hard to find this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647

I have done dozens of searches and come across hundreds of people having the same issue as me and not one solution that actually works...
The software: HTC Sync, version: 2.0.18
The OS: Windows 7
The device: HTC Magic (Stock Rogers version)
The issue: HTC sync installed fine, all drivers installed fine, when I connect my Magic to my PC my phone notification area gives me the option to "HTC Sync" when I select that and it searches for a minute or so it says:
"The phone cannot detect HTC Sync at your PC. Please make sure that HTC Sync is installed and opened on your computer."
Tried rebooting my PC and tried rebooting my Magic (as a few different posts suggested). Tried installing different versions of HTC Sync, but 2.0.18 should be the right one as HTC says that it is for Windows 7:
"This release of HTC Sync for Windows 7 allows for users to sync their Android phones”
It seems Many people are having the same issue as me and yet no one has a solution?!?
Any help, pointers or advice would be Very much appreciated.
I've found that it is easiest to just avoid htc sync on windows 7 altogether. Tried to get it working for like 8 hours yesterday. You may be able to make it work if u use windows 7's xp virtualization mode (Google it) and install the program in an xp environment.
But honestly, i say avoid it until HTC makes it work properly

Well even if I wanted to just give up on syncing it, if I can't get my Magic/PC to recognize each other then I can't ever root/upgrade my phone, so giving up is not an option.
Ok I have managed to finally find a solution that works (for me).
1. Install HTC Sync
2. Download these drivers: http://depositfiles.com/files/yd61xorii and then Unzip them
3. connect your Magic to your PC
4. on your PC select: Start>Control Panel>Device Manager>ADB Interface>Rightclick>Update driver software>Browse My Computer For Driver Software>Browse to the location you unziped the drivers to>Let Me Pick From A List(Don't let it pick or it will pick the wrong ones!)>Click on "My HTC">Click Next.
Done.
you can root and upgrade w/o htc sync.
I did it yesterday. you just have to use the goldcard method to flash the proper spl, then you can put anything on the sd card. Windows recognizes the phone as a flash drive regardless of wether or not it works with sync

You can flash your SPL without connecting your phone to your PC? (I just got my Magic to I have never done anything to it yet)
But anyways I also want the ability to use my carrier upgrades and for that I Need my phone to recognize my PC.
And most importantly I need a seamless way to keep all my different phones in sync with Outlook and HTC Sync is the only way to do that. So I'm glad I got it figures out.
HTC Sync here shows it works with Windows 7 now:
http://87.106.248.77/download/Driver//HTC Tattoo/HTC Sync 2.0.18/HTCSync.exe
yeah you can flash a new spl w/o connecting to computer.
but by all means, if you got it working, more power to you
Ive tried all the above idea to get HTC Sync to work on my PC (with Win 7) nothing works......

Have you got your Magic rooted and customized the ROM?
I was able to connect few days ago, after I upgraded to 1.6 and lately 2.1, I was unable to do so...
I connect my phone but zune (software) on pc says no device connected????
Wow, short and too the point, could you perhaps give us a step by step of what yove done/tried?
make sure your phone is ON and unlocked, ie your looking at the tiles.
insure Zune is installed and setup,
If your using a USB hub try not using it, or try a different port
Do you have the HD2 reg edit to make it a HD7?
do be honest there is many many many reasons, the Microsoft KB can help as well
Had similar issue.
BB OS is Windows 7. Device did'nt want to recognize.
I updated driver using this set DP_USB_wnt5_x86-32_80911 and everything went OK
i have done/tried everything you have mentioned.
what is the reg edit to hd7?
with your phone connected to the pc, go to the device manager and see if you can find you phone (it will be in phones or mobile devices or usb devices). if it has a yellow icon next to it then it, or it shows up as unknown device then there is a problem with the driver. im on windows 7 and i had this issue, but mine was showing as unknown device. when i right clicked it, i selected update driver, then search online for driver and it found and downloaded the driver and it worked
SO when I do a reg edit..will my HD2 be on windows 7 mobile???

no.
I can't connect to Zune either, reinstalled WP7 and Zune still no luck, reinstalled certificates too just says to restart reconnect
Try downloading windows mobile device center. see if that helps your computer recognize your hd2. Also try unlocking it again. pm me if you want the link to another thread on here that helps, appareantly im not allowed to post a link of another thread? Idk, but last time i did, the thread got closed.
Same boat chaps and YES, tried all the above but I am still on win 6.5. Do you think that could be why? DOH?
You want to update to win 6.5 to win 7 mobile?
this is not supported by Microsoft. Your HD2 can't be updated by active Sync or Zune. you have to insatll a cracked ROM-Update.
Search in XDA-Forum for installation guide.
have luck
i have install zune & htc sync but no drver for usb
HTC HD2 will not connect to Zune (software)
Thank you ca MARHE I had a HD2 and I installed Rom 1_HD2 Pdaimatejam Wp7.8 OS v8.7 7.10.8858.136 RMT I had the same problem and I rule following what you say thank you
Hi I've just bought this phone HTC HD2 and Win7 was installed on it.
However, I just can't connect it to my Windows XP computer .
Is there something I've missed to do? I have Activesync 4.5 installed and it just doesn't see my phone.
I'm new with this so any help will be highly appreciated.
I'd like to install Android Gingerbread on it but the first step (a connection to my pc) is already a burden
With windows phone 7, you don't sync like previous windows phones... Activsync is no more...
You sync media (music, videos, pics etc) with zune...
You can sync contacts and calender with hotmail/gmail/livemail...

You can sync using the bootloader.
Turn off your phone, then boot while holding volume down. Then connect the USB and flash what you want .
P.S. : (Your device may not show up on Active Sync, but as long as all the drivers are installed then your device is connected.)

bootloader will not helpyou sync anything, it is used to flash other ROMS, you need zune installed to sync with Windows Phone 7
Hi everybody,
I hope you can help me because I really can't find the solution:
When I connect my HD2 WP7-device to my computer it charges, but isn't recognized.
- Zune won't start automatically and won't find any device.
- Device Manager doesn't show any unknown device or something that could be my phone.
What I have tried so far:
- Used a XP3 and W7 x64 machine (also ones without any history with a WP7-phone)
- Used a lot of different cables
- Used a lot of different USB-ports
- reinstalled WP7
- reinstalled zune
- (de)installed activesync
- I'm not sure, but first I had a dual-boot solution with Android and I recall USB also didn't work there.
I started to think the USB-connection of my phone might be broken, but when I use MAGDLR, the USB works as mass storage and I can also use the USB flasher. The Bootloader also works, so I tried the following:
- (using bootloader) restored the HD2 in its original state with a official stock ROM and original (locked) HSPL
- Installed a Android ROM: the USB also does NOT work with WM6.5 or Android.
Does anyone know anything I can try now? And Yes, I have read all of the threads of other people with USB-issues and the MS-solutions, but none of them had the solution for me...
Coffee-donation for whoever has the golden tip
Hello guys, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I am facing a similar issue.
I installed the LEO70 ROM on my HD2 when it first came out, and forgot all about it. I now want to install the NoDo (7932) update to test it out (and maybe move permanently to an Android ROM eventually when I decide I don't like it). I am facing an issue; I want to upgrade my MagLDR to 1.13 (from 1.12) and ROMUpdateUtility doesn't recognize my phone, giving me the 'Error 260 - Connection' error.
I did remove Windows Mobile Device Center a month or two ago... could this be the problem? I have the latest Zune software installed on my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (x86-64) machine, and when I plug in the phone, Zune automatically starts and recognizes my phone, telling me there's a phone update available (from February that I need to install to enable future updates). I know it will kill my phone, so I won't install it. Also, USBMassStorage mode works nicely.
Any ideas?
Hi sclip,
I don't mind if you try to find an answer to your problem too, but it seems like a different one, because mine does work in bootloader/magdlr-mode.
BTW. I just installed the stock WM6.5 Rom of HTC, and USB still doesn't work! Can it be the radio of hardSPL or is it just broken?
****, after installing the stock WM6.5, it won't install another Radio/MAGDLR using bootloader, it stucks at the 0%.
I think I might haved destroyed my HD2

That did the trick, thanks. To bad it didn't help my USB problem...
since youve tried just about everything else try this
try using USBDVIEW and delete all the USB drivers
also install it on a different PC that hasnt had WP7 connected to it before
to continue with fault testing will requirer us to rule out the PC or the phone, at the mo it could be anything.
since you have Windows 7 install the XP virtual machine and use that, i believe the VM now supports pass through on USB so it should work, i have an old IrDA adaptor that wont install on my w7 PC but it will on the XP VM

Thanks for the USBDVIEW-tip, quite a nice piece of software! However it didn't help me with my problem. Using a computer which never had WP7 connected before didn't help either...
I have had the easiest run so far in getting my HD2 to work with WP7, installling DFT's ROM and getting an activation code was a breeze. All is good except for one issue. When I connect by USB to my PC, the PC shows a window saying that it is seeking and then installing Device Driver Software. It does this every time I connect and then concludes by saying that my unidentified device is now ready for use. Zune then tells me that it can't make a connection between my HD2 and the internet but it can still sync files etc. I have installed Windows Device Manager (with .NET4 and developer tools etc.) and it too can't connect with my HD2. I've pursued the references in various threads to firewall issues and so on but I'm none the wiser.
Can anyone advise me what I should look at or what to try?
Other than this, I just want to say a huge THANKYOU to all at XDA and the extended community of interested/interesting folks who make it such a fantastic resource for everyone - BRAVO!
im having this EXACT same problem! anyone got any answers?
Zune
Guys,
Did you install Zune Desktop Software?
Once you have installed Zune, it should pick up your device.
Let me know if that does not work
I've tried everything except doing a hard-reset. And, yes, of course I installed Zune on PC
i assume you mean Windows mobile device center?
you dont need it
it should connect and be done, the fact that it isnt remember the correct driver suggests something on the driver side is buggered.
With the phone connected go in to the computers device manager, and right click on anything to do with the phone, including and unknown devices, right click and uninstall them all, before it installes them all again, disconnect the phone
look for a tool on google called USBDVIEW
make sure you get the correct version 32bit / 64bit
You will also need the USB IDs if you want to see who makes each device
put it on your PC and run it in admin mode
Locate anything todo with the phone and right click and remove them all
Remove Zune
Remove Windows mobile Device center
restart your PC
install zune first
Then plug in your phone into a different USB port and not in to a HUB
See how you get on with that
Second thoughts, ive attached the 32 and 64 bit versions, both already have the USB device IDs file with them, just copy the zip file to your PC, extract, and run as admin, all credit goes to the owner of this, i found them at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
sorry double post
Didn't work. =/
UPDATE: It did work
Zune cannot connect to an HD2 running Windows Phone 7 unless the time and date match on the phone and the computer. Make sure that your date and time are set up correctly on the phone, and do match the time and date with your computer. It is a long shot, but it worked for me before.
For the driver problem, dazza9075 gave the best advice.
Hmmm, so much for that fun. I was running WP 7004 when the computer first couldn't find the phone, after doing what dazza said the driver problem got fixed, and Zune found the phone. I updated from 7004 to 7008, how ever the phone kinda crashed at step 8 (restarting your phone) so i restarted it manually, the update is working fine except now Zune can't find my phone again. Not even after doing Dazzas method again.
I will try to change the time zones maybe that will do the trick.
