I'm finding it hit and miss if I get the error if a video loads or not.

Handy Sniffer v2.0

Hi IT people,
Handy Sniffer v2.0 has been released! It is cardinally altered.
11 protocol parsers are included and now anybody can develop new packet analyzers (.dll).
Unregistered version has a little restrictions but has no trial period.
You can find the program and module sample on our site.
http://winm-soft.atspace.com
Good Luck!
Great Release
Congratulations Alex, you managed to make cellular trafic capture, it's great news! Sorry that i didn't replyed to you about 1.6 but I had some personal problems that time. Anyway when we might expect WM5/6 version?
HS2 is specially designed for WM2003, WM5, WM6 and maybe smartphones (not tested). If there are some artifacts, ect. write me about it. I have WM5 and WM6 devices and HS2 and EDh work well. Play it! It is very great If anybody makes some additional protocol parser. Any ideas? Maybe some Instant Messenger protocol?
One more sample module
This is a sample module that can process each packet captured by sniffer. It replaces the main program module ("modules\hs_ether.dll") and calculates some Rx statistics. Maybe its source can be interested for somebody.
The link not work, now!
I clicked the previous link and all is ok. Copy is here.
Greetings AlexB,
I downloaded your program which sounds great. I installed the SDK certs and tried to get hsniffer running but it fails with an error message:
"Cannot activate the driver!" and then quits.
I'm using a HTC Kaiser with the latest official WM6 ROM from HTC.
If I start the program a second time, it starts without this error and if I click File->Tools->Adapters I get my adapters listed. Trying to start a capture generates the following error message: "Cannot get adapters list!"
Any hints? Did I miss something?
Hi c0rnholio,
I do not know why on some devices the sniffer cannot load the driver module (Windows\hsdriver.dll). The error 2 happens (ActivateDeviceEx, GetLastError, ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) and next you see "Cannot activate the driver!". After this message the program works (you can open sample files) but cannot perform sniffing functions those need driver functionality. I think after this message the main window was behind and after next run you simply bring program window to top.
If anybody knows what causes such driver loading error I will be grateful for help. The program and driver are signed with SDK privileged certificate and it unfortunately does not help... **** happens.
Fixed it. The problem was that a GPRS connection was already established. After closing the existing connection the driver could be loaded and everything is working fine.
It is VERY strange! OK, if anybody ask me why HS does not work I'll say ask c0rnholio how need to do...
Hi,
i'm trying the new Handy sniffer into my TouchHD (Blackstone) but i can only get ARP packets (which are broadcasted). I also installed sdkcert as site advice, but nothing changes.
Alex, can you write down a list of devices which can capture in promiscuous mode?
In particular, how about Trinity and Blackstone?
Thanks!
sorry for my ignorance but what is the purpose of this? can i connect using gprs for free?
No, it's not for that purpose.
Handy Sniffer "Sniffs" (listen to) the traffic into a network. If working in "promiscuous mode" it can track down (and show to user) all the traffic (data in form of TCP packets) inside that network.
What's is supposed to?
There are many uses for this kind of tool, some legal and some ... "not legit".
While "sniffing" traffic of a given network, you can detect if someone is doing a unrightful use of the network, if an intrusion is being made, but also you can see passwords and other sensible data (like personal data).
It's like having a big hear cabable of listening network traffic. By itself, it can do nothing. It's up to the user to be capable of understanding packets of captured traffic.
So, forget a "stole the passwords" button. You'll not find it
woring with the HD2?
Hi, I have the HTC HD2, and I want to know if it was working with my phone?
I have actualy tried it, but the result was not good... (I only get ARP...).
thanks for any help
good for you guys, with my the HTC Kaiser I don't get anything...how do you do/set up the program
Thanks,
DOMy

Skyfire 0.8 Beta Release Notes
Released: September 24, 2008
Skyfire is a new experience that brings the full internet to your mobile. Watch videos on YouTube or Hulu, connect with your friends on Myspace or Facebook, shop on Amazon or listen to music. Can you do it on your computer at home? Then you can do it on Skyfire on the go.
Skyfire is fast, easy to use and available for free on many smart phone models.
Skyfire 0.8 Beta is a new beta release of Skyfire for Windows Mobile (version 5 or 6). This release has been enhanced with both requests from our active community and new additions that we think will make Skyfire a better experience.
We greatly appreciate our beta community. Their support, active participation and feedback on the forums at http://support.skyfire.com/ helps us to constantly improve the product.
What’s new in Skyfire 0.8 Beta:
Skyfire 0.8 Beta has been under development for the past 4 months, integrating more than 1000 fixes and enhancements. The major focus of this release was to enhance usability, make the experience smoother, increase responsiveness, and improve audio and video quality.
* Contextual Zoom: Let’s you simply and quickly get to exactly where you want to be on the page. Skyfire’s zooming capability has been improved, and now the camera corners feature shows you a match with major screen elements within its view.
* Super Bar: Use our handy new SuperBar to perform a search or enter a URL from a single field – it’s a great time and space saver that is easily accessible.
* Content sharing: You can now share web content by SMS. We even make the URL short enough that it will fit easily into a SMS text message. Especially useful for the really long URL’s used by many sites. You can now also share Skyfire itself with friends by SMS or email.
* Faster application launch: Skyfire launches much more quickly so you to get your content quicker.
* Video and audio: We’ve improved the quality of both video and audio, so you can enjoy a smoother playback experience.
* Reconnect - Skyfire will automatically reconnect, so you don’t need to restart when your wireless connection is dropped.
* Default browser: Now you can set Skyfire as your default browser. Clicking Web links in SMS or Email messages will automatically start Skyfire.
* Enhanced text entry allows you to more easily complete web forms right within a page. First you can enter the text right on the page. Plus you automatically move to the next form element (text field, list, radio button, or checkbox) after you have made a form entry using the ‘OK’ or ‘Enter’ keys.
* Content download: Allows you to download images and other content from most web pages.
* Home screen integration: Allows you to add a Skyfire search and URL bar to your Windows Mobile Today screen, so you can enter what you are looking for right away without first starting Skyfire.
* Mobile site support: If a website also has a mobile version, Skyfire can optionally hint to you about the availability of a mobile alternative. With the new mobile site indicator, you’ll get a quick link to access the mobile version – then you can decide if you want the mobile or full website.
* Bookmarks have been significantly enhanced – giving you much better control.
* Additionally we enhanced the start page: have the top news items accessible immediately via a headline widget.
Downloading and Installing:
To be able to use Skyfire, you first need to sign up for a Skyfire account at http://www.skyfire.com/register. Additionally you need a supported phone, e.g. Windows Mobile 5 or 6 (for Skyfire Beta 0.8) or Symbian (S60 3’rd Edition, for Skyfire Beta 0.6). Please note: We currently only the US is supported.
If you are already registered then simply log into your existing account at http://www.skyfire.com/users/login and download the installation file, or request a SMS to be sent to your phone. Download the file and start the installer. There is no need to uninstall Skyfire first – simply overwrite the existing installation during the process. No worry: your cookies and bookmarks will be preserved.
If you are new to Skyfire and you need to register, provide at your Name, Email and Phone number on http://www.skyfire.com/register. You will be sent an Email and SMS with a URL to complete your registration. Follow this URL (on your phone or PC Browser), and complete the registration. Once registered, you can immediately download the correct installation file for your device. If you downloaded the installation file on your PC you must first transfer it to your phone. Start the installer on your phone and follow the instructions. Once you start Skyfire you will be prompted for your Email address and the password you provided during registration. This will be just once, and you will not have to enter it again (remember the password though to log into your account!)
Known Issues:
* Installation: When the client receives an upgrade notification after resuming from the background it might not successfully resume (Issue 2923). Please exit Skyfire and start again.
* Uninstall: Skyfire uninstall might not be successful or complete when Skyfire is active at the time of uninstall (Issue 1861). Please exit Skyfire first before uninstall.
* When leaving the phone idle for more than 5 minutes Skyfire will display the start page (Issue 2892)
* Downloading files with long filenames might truncate file extensions (Issue 2726)
* Myspace.com: Have to zoom in to 100% to be able to click the log-in button (Issue 2115)
* Mobile site hinting and support: some ‘mobile’ sites are rendering similar to a full web page (e.g. zoom and horizontal scroll). Often this is due to the web page not reporting itself as being mobile. We are looking for a solution.
* Playing video for a long time (> 5 min) might disconnect Skyfire (Issue 2827).
* Non standard SIP’s (Soft Input Panel, e.g. on-screen keyboard) might interfere with Skyfire operation and showing artifacts
* Very long web pages might get cut off at the bottom (Issue 2800)
* Back and Menu soft-key buttons might disappear from screen (Issue 2793). Please use the right soft-key, it usually will bring the on-screen keys back onto the screen.
* In some cases the page might scroll to a different location when entering text into a text entry field (Issue 2678, 2729)
* When Skyfire is in the background the toolbar may become visible on Windows Home screen when switching programs in windows, or locking the phone. (Issue 2732)
* Skyfire URL bar becomes unresponsive when device was in standby mode. (Issue 2892)
* Links to media files (MP3’s etc) currently only play back, and do not initiate download.
* Scrolling through very long list boxes has slow behavior (Issue 1202)
Not supported:
* VGA phones not supported yet (e.g. HTC Touch Diamond etc).
* DivX and XviD Video formats are not supported.
* Quicktime movies which require playback external of browser not supported (Quicktime clips embedded in page are supported).
* FTP browsing and access is not supported (e.g. URL’s with ftp:// )
* Anchors (In-page links) not supported
YOU MUST BE A BETA TESTER TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS SOFTWARE
currently there has been issues with loggin in with this new version...it has been mentioned and will be fixed soon
*yawn*
I'm not an impatient soul by nature but this experience has been one long frustration. It's been months since I registered, haven't heard one peep out of these people since the SMS message I received. Tried accessing their website today and many pages are just missing, and the titlebar says "Welcome to Skyfire!, Error"
Tried logging in to "my account" and was helpfully told that my email address had not been verified yet (!) - basically a polite way of saying "screw you."
I was really looking forward to trying this browser, and although I totally understand the idea of limited public beta testing, being in the software test field myself, the almost complete unresponsiveness of this group to "unverified" users is awfully irritating.
Meanwhile, Opera 9.5 is already a fantastic browser, and I just can't imagine what features Skyfire is going to have that is going to make me overlook my feelings of being ignored and forgotten by a company I wanted badly to support.
It's been a long time since a company has put me off quite this badly. Even MS communicates with the users once in awhile. I don't yet really hope this effort fails, but at this point it could hardly be said it deserves to succeed.
AJ
Finally INTERNATIONAL users can use this app???
Don't Like The Idea Of The Sms .. Login.... What Is Gold?
I Prefer Opera
I installed the new version and when i open Skyfire it ONLY shows the top Unibar, Back, and Menu. Nothing else, just a gray screen. I did manage to get the home page to come up once, but that was it. It's wierd. it thinks a page is loaded cause it will let me double tap and then if i get lucky and click on a link(i assume it's a link that i can't see) it will attempt to load the page...
Have already rebooted. Will try a reinstall...

I believe that they are having some issues with the authentication process, so be patient. You got further than I did though
opera is still more of a desktp browser. the text input for skyfire and loading speeds are still faster, but navigating the pages inskyfire is no where near as smooth as opera. good improvements.. but the major features skyfire were lacking are still missing:
still get the checkerboard when scrolling through a page
smartfit is not very smart.. columns are used in thumbnail view which doesn't really make sense
when you press up and down on dpad while typing text entry, it closes out of the box.. so how do you see wat you were typing before?
overall this versin is better.. but opera is still winning... especially since now it is supporting flash
good stuff though hope to see navigation improved!

Damn so you downloaded the .80 version?
I downloaded and installed .80 with no problem. I could log into the web site and download.
However, when my Skyfire tries to connect on the handheld it tells me that the username/password are not correct.
I don't get it.

M2D users?
A newbie question...
Can anyone tell me how to make M2D internet widget run SkyFire rather than Opera?
The new 0.8 release is da*n quick, presents all websites great, and I like it more than Opera, however I don't want to lose the widget and put SkyFire in the launch area only...
Thanks

Can't login
Hi all,
What I want is to have the same Gmail interface than the iphone, and not the poor m.gmail.com interface ....
Opera does not do that, and Iris Browser not anymore (it worked but now it does not work anymore).
I live in France so Skyfire is not for me fr the moment....
How should I do then ?
Thanks for replies.

look for GC's Java pack, it has a gmail java applet that i would bet is what you are looking for.

[ ]Video Security - Can i be a remote spy???

so i have been thinking about my homes security and i have some questions...
i have collected quite a few expensive gadgets and they need protection!
So, i have been tinkering with my **** logitech orb web cam and it now supports motion detection. now call me crazy but i would like to be able to receive on my diamond, the video that has been recorded by a motion detection enabled web cam set up in my home. i'm trying to get my logitech web cam to save on my HP media smart server, running windows home server, not default on my laptop, and be notified by either sms that there is new video on my server or the video itself sent to my diamond. i would also like to be able to connect remotely to my laptop and be able to activate the camera software from a desktop link or something like that.
now i swear this is diamond related in the fact that i would like to use the device as a controller.
i have not used remote desktop on my diamond yet, i could not get it working.
i'm not sure if this is a app request, idea, or util so ill follow the forum template rules once this thread takes shape.
please shed some light on how one could make this happen. i think it could be useful to all of us, at home or place of business or your just want to bust your stupid parents snooping around your room.
so you are looking for an app that does the following:
act as webcam streaming server, but only when motion is detected, and when it does detect motion, it must notify you via sms, plus: you need a simple app for youre diamond to vie the stream..
i dont think I would be able to do this, but if you can clarify exacly what you want thinking WITH you is more easy...
on the other hand, i am sure the pc part has already some usefull apliactions wich are able to act as a server. but im not sure about the notification sms..
it would be ideal if that sms contained a link that you follow to open youre browser to view the stream...
what i know what is possible, there are apps for the pc that record video and send it via e-mail...
just use google for webcam security..
maybe there are pplz around here that can adapt software for u...
but i u seach im sure there are apps out there wich can do that... the only app you need is a browser capable of viewing video streams..
Would be good an app who detect movement, and then make several actions:
- Upload a photo/video on an FTP
- Save photo/video
- Play an AUDIO alarm
- Send an mms with the photo/video
- Send a warning sms
- Make a call (and let you listen what's happening)
....all when Movement is detected via the pda camera
Improvise
What you are trying to accomplish is mostly already possible. You'll need to do some research and some creative thinking to get it to work though. You will most likely not get an all-in-one solution to this issue.
It sounds to me like the motion detection and subsequent video capture is already taking place via the software you have installed for your web cam.
Basically you need two things: A way to be notified of a new video file and a way to view it.
I'm not aware of any existing application which will send an email (which can arrive as an SMS) based on a new file being created in a directory, but as a programmer I can asure you there's not much to it.
There are however many solutions which would allow you to view a video file on your WM device from you computer at home and remote desktop is not the way to go here. Your best bet is probably good old http since most video applications will handle "streaming" to file to you as you watch. You'll need to familiarize yourself with IIS (Internet Information Server; I'm assuming you're using Windows) and create a "virtual directory" pointing at the folder where the video files arrive. You'll also need to take the necessary steps to open port 80 so that your computer at home can host via http (this means configuring your router and your computer's firewall). Once this is done just pick your favorite video player and choose "open URL" or something similar and type in http://YourExternalIP/YourVirtualDirectory/YourVideoFile.
I'll leave it up to you to figure out how to best make yourself aware of new files.
As LucidObscurity says there already are several solutions available to this through the combination of existing discrete applications, although .
My setup does does what you desire although goes quite a bit further so it may be overkill for your requirements. However, as food for thought it may still be of interest. It consists of:
- A series of Panasonic BL-C1 IP cameras distributed around my house (running on the wired house network, although wireless versions are available) - these are quite discrete cameras and don't have the typical 'camera look' hence are aesthetically compatible with partners, guests etc (most people I've pointed them out to hadn't noticed them and then didn't believe they were cameras)
- The motion detection/analysis software ZoneMinder - the 'brains' - this monitors the cameras, detects motion (in zoned areas) and records the events as required (it buffers the images so you can capture what happened before the trigger too)
- The SMS tool MercurySMS (and VGSMail gateway) used to alert me via text when motion has been detected (the texts contain various event-related details/stats and a link to the recording)
- A handful of other scripts used for small housekeeping tasks e.g. scheduling the starting/stopping of the system, realtime offsite backup of recorded material (there's no point me capturing a thief on video if he then goes an nicks my PC!), etc
- My Diamond, or any other device with a web browser, used to interface with the system - controlling/configuring it, accessing live/recorded video etc. A web front end is essential in my opinion - you don't want to tie access down to a single platform/device.
Whilst it's not a setup that is up-and-running out of the box now that's it's fully configured it works well - very well. False alarms are practically nill and it doesn't miss a thing. Remote access via the web is powerful and as simple/complicated as you want - on holiday my girlfriend regularly fires up the quick 'snapshot' montage to keep an eye on our cats (we do have a dedicated 'catcam' monitoring the catflap so we can see the history of who came in/out and when).
I'm sure there are some all-in-one solutions available but they likely come at a cost and perhaps do not have the power and flexibility of a modularised solution - it'd be worth seeing what's available though.
Mathew
thanks for all your replies. great read.
i just want all my systems, Windows Home Server, Vista Home Pro and WM6.1 to come together. i will take a look into the apps you have linked to and see whats what.
i already have the ability to record with motion detection. when a new file is created in a folder on my home server, i want to be notified and linked to or streamed. i have remote access to my file via browser [ blazeitup123.homeserver.com ]. i can't get the logitech software to actually save to the server because it says i dont have the rights. i'll try and fix that tonight after dinner, but saving to the server is very improtant because my laptop could be stolen and then the whole setup was pointless. i want to incorperate my diamond into this process as much as possible, like with the remote activation and so on.
Wooow this is one of the coolest threads I read in a long time.
Although I'm not as advanced as some of the members regarding computing, I was thinking:
-Cam software streaming to remote address.
-When motion is detected, cam starts recording, thus creating movement in the remote address.
-When new connection(movement) is detected, you activate a new RSS feed.
-You get RSS notification on phone.
-Connect to remote address and check the stream.
What about:
A spy cam on the Diamond, I mean that you could hide your phone somewhere and point it at a certain spot you want to view. Then remotely access the phone and view the live stream?
Since the phone is so small its an easy hide.
Greetings to all and luck in all your great projects!
you should actually look here...

Looks good. I've also found Wapcam
(Seems to alert via e-mail to you could use either push e-mail or an email-to-SMS gateway for instant alerts)

Perhaps you should invest in a big dog.
I m using this one:
http://www.accordiva.com/
U have there SecuRanger 2 Support 4 video channels
or one Camera only: SecuExpress 2
SecuExpress 2
both come with WM application for remote / viewing etc..
Take a look at orb.com. It has the ability to sms or email you if it detects movement. You could then connect to your home webcam through the phone's' browser.
...a good spy, like a 007 , should be able to SPY also without his PC
The only one that i've found is Invisible Shooter... for symbian os there are a lot of those apps (no pc needed), but for the pda there aren't many... (see the post #3)

Problem with streaming tv and download files from the internet

Hi,
Can somebody help me out, because i have problems with downloading (every) file(s) from the internet with my x1, it says ''error 502'' and if i try t o download it from html page view there is a page full of strange nummers and symbols.
And another anoying problem is that i can't stream live tv any more and it says, ''your handset is not supported". It looks like some registry keys are gone, could that be?
Can you provide some links for us to try it out? That way, we'll be able to see if it's just your phone or if it is not supported at all on our X1.

How to force an app to launch with hyperlinks?

Hi all,
Maybe not the right place for this, but as I have. Desire HD, here goes.
I was wondering how it would be possible to have a certain app load when you click on a link on a website?
I'll explain:
I would like to create a hyperlink on my site, for example, 'Listen here' and have it launch for example, A Online Radio or TuneIn radio.
This is possible on normal Windows software by adding the rtsp:// protocol or .rm file extension to force Real Player or .asx to get Windows Media to open the file/stream
Is this possible with Android? The link would be placed on a mobile site and I would hope to get either of the above two apps to open, bit what extension/prefix to use?
I hope I've made myself clear!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
