Honeycomb 3.2 : Reasons to update - Acer Iconia A500

Just a short list of pros to update to 3.2:
Pros
1. Better/smoother/faster landscape animation rendering. (Portrait rendering is still slow and laggy)
2. Can now access external SD card along with internal memory when tablet is plugged into a PC via Micro USB.
3. Native support for NTFS formatted USB storage devices (external hard drives and flash drives)
4. Better 720P video playback (less stuttering and juddering). You still see a little but much less than before. (Use Freemake video converter for all your video conversion needs)
5. Overall improved system stability.
6. Now feature for zooming phone optimised apps to fit on the larger screen instead of just stretching it. (kinda stupid once u really use it)
Con
1. Not able to root (as yet
If you have any more say if its a pro or con and then add it.

Heya,
You SURE you can't root it? Reason I'm asking is cause I have an A100 with the 3.2, and I rooted it quick and easy. I know it's a different model, but they shouldn't be THAT different, eh?

how did you do that?

Nope, The official stock 3.2 rom for A500 can't be rooted for now.
There's also a new locked bootloader which makes *harder* to revert to an old rom / flash custom rom

Just google "root A100 ADB"...
Basically I just uploaded an SU file to the root of the storage, went into the Terminal, instead of going through ADB and wrote a couple of lines. Took 5 mins.
Now as I said, I'm not sure if the same method can be used on the A500, but I guess its worth a try.

But he's upgrading from the 3.1, no? That's how I read it, he was talking about updating to 3.2....

heres a con: a rooted 3.2 build from teh A501 has all those benifits plus root.

AFAIK the bootloader for A100 and A500 is different, so rooting is not the same. Anyway I just flashed a rooted near-stock ROM cooked from the official A500 Acer update.

I agree with all but the first one.....the potrait mode has improved a lot and is quite fast.........also the orientation change speed has also improved but still needs a lot more.....

And a con......the clock on the lockscreen appears on the extreme right hand side in portrait mode....
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App

Having NTFS support was the whole reason I rooted 3.1. If that is in 3.2, then I don't need root right off the bat.

Finally got The OTA 3.2 update here. My initial opinion is that its way faster and smoother than 3.1 ever was. Scrolling and swiping is a lot more fluid. The zoom feature for apps is something I can take or leave, I haven't really found a use for it yet. Losing root sucks, but all I was using it for was to swap out boot animations, so I can live without it for a while until some enterprising soul figures it out. Overall though, I gotta say its a fairly large improvement over 3.1.

anyone know if USB file transfer works with Macs yet? can't believe google was stupid enough to release Honeycomb without that working.

Experimental Tegra driver update (read before updating!)

12/1 UPDATE -- this has superseded by a newer fix that also fixes the camera, and removes the questionable VOLD binary. It is part of TnT Lite 2.1.0 and above.
This update is EXPERIMENTAL and I would recommend the utmost caution attempting this. I would recommend that you make a full backup with a tool like clockworkmod recovery first. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
What this is
A update to the Tegra drivers and library files. We discovered this thanks to mcb00f , as it was originally designed as performance pack for the Advent Vega.
This significantly improves the performance of the tablet - Quadrant scores on TnT Lite increase to 2300+ and the browser definitely seems faster. This update.zip should also be mod-agnostic and might work on the zPad and possibly CM6.1. Again, use at your own risk!
EDIT: Rothnic reports that this variant should work on zPad: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9480565&postcount=36. There's some issues with the vold binary and permissions that required a separate package for zPad.
EDIT2: new update for zPad, from Rothnic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9493631&postcount=105
Why this is a experimental build / known issues
One known issue is that this will break the camera. We have not been able to figure out how to fix this, and perhaps we never will. Go on the assumption that the camera will be broken as long as you use this experimental update. There could also be other issues that we haven't found yet.
EDIT: On my Ubuntu x64 system, I cannot seem to properly copy files to /sdcard anymore. They seem to work, but clockworkmod cannot run them, for reasons unknown. I can also mount /data onto my Ubuntu PC, which I've never been able to do before.
Link to update.zip based file, for TnT Lite 2.x: http://www.mediafire.com/?w53wue1bkjduanq
md5sum: 70b1156ef1f78ae67a0c01684b4eb6c3
I would recommend clockworkmod to use this update (just run it as a update.zip file) -- the zip is designed with that in mind, and if you aren't semi-technical you should probably avoid this update, anyway. I am not going to support this like I would the TnT Lite build - if you have major problems, you should just revert back to your previous build - I would not consider this stable and, as mentioned, it will break things.
How is storage mapping? Still working correctly?
Saw your reply in the other thread. No change to current TnT mapping.
Thanks again roebeet!
I started with 2.02 - The Camera App doesn't work, no biggie, but the tablet is much smoother. Scrolling in ADW.Launcher is noticeably smoother. Quadrant Benchmark scores were ~1850 and are now 2550.
I can see SDCard and SDCard2 in Root Explorer. No Problems there.
So far, this is an awesome update. Recommended unless you need the camera.
TheDude
Installed successfully, browser definitely feels faster. Thanks!

No issues with storage. The camera is borked and my only other concerns right now are things like audio and video playback.
Working, although was getting force closes so I did a wipe in cw which took care of it.
This thing is flying now.. no issues except camera as reported, thanks again.
Does not load on CM6.1 beta 4
gojimi might have a fix for the camera. I'm going to test it out and, assuming no issues, I might integrate into a future TnT Lite supplement. For now, there's this experimental update to play around with.
EDIT: Might not be working. Don't get your hopes up.
Flash still work? With better drivers, should perform even better, as well as video files that are not Flash.

I tested Flash and it still works. Performance seems about the same to me. But the browser in general seems faster to render.

I can understand the why not clear data... but why would you Not want to clear cache? I have always cleared cache with updates even if I thought the update may be doing it also, as in the past I've seen so many unexplained problems when folks didn't... Only cost is a slower first restart... but has been a big win more than once, so I'd always opt for the slow first restart...

Downloading.... have a long plane ride tomorrow. Will report when I land....
Thanks.
Went from 1759 to 2335 on quadrant, the whole system seems much faster and I couldn't care less about the camera.
Seriously the camera sucks ass on this thing to begin with so nothing of value was lost.
oh btw youtube actually works now!
Wow!
Youtube works perfectly, as does the always picky G4 client app. Flash seems to be better too. To test this, please go to a more challenging site that may have been iffy before. Case in point, the always merciless IGN.COM and watch a few reviews or trailers
Averaging 2400 with Quadrant (Min 2298 & Max 2518)
PSX4Droid is faster too, so nice icing on an already nice performing cake there. Tekken 3 is close to full FPS now, if not full. This game chokes on standard atom netbooks. Sound is still an issue (barely OK), but that is the emulator- not the device.
Higher def wmv and MP4s that choked before, play smooth now (not tried 1080p, since overkill for a portable IMO ).
Roeby, to you and the person/s helping you I am humbled. Great job in making the device close to outstanding in less than a month. VS SHOULD BE PAYING YOU AND USING THIS AS A COMPLETE PACKAGE. Instant big seller. They are losing money NOT doing this.
BTW: 500gb Western Digital USB drives work fine in FAT32. Using one right now and NOT plugged into an outlet for the drive or Gtablet.
In summary: Dang!
h264 high profile videos still don't work, but I expected that - I believe that's a hardware limitation of the chipset. EDIT: Xvid standard def MKV's now work smooth in Rockplayer - but audio still goes out of sync. Getting better, though.
Live Wallpapers seem to bog the system down less. Previously, I would turn off LW's because of this.
I would love to get this integrated into TnT Lite as a stable update, but I'd have to test what gojimi is cooking up. I plan to do that tomorrow.

Lost Features in ICS from HC

The purpose of this thread is to inform potential ICS users on the features that will be lost after moving from HC to ICS.
The intention is to help users make an informed decision on whether to update.
Please help by listing what features are missing in the ICS update, compared to Honeycomb.
Features Lost after ICS update
1.) XBOX/PS3 controller support
2.) ??
Um... how about... stability? lol
Loved that home screen widget arrangement setup the way in which u could view the entire homescreens in a 3d like way plus I also miss some extra status bar actions.
OTA rooting
Easy way to root your device the best thing I lost in ICS is OTA rooting my device I had to used viperMOD prime to root my device it's work fine but its change my device to forced it root and it's not a OTA war

+1 - PS3 controller works fine with ICS - you need to connect it via USB cable and use it like that for about a minute. Then, when you disconnect it, you can reconnect via bluetooth by pushing the middle PS button....

Same here, had 250+ hours up time before I manually rebooted... And I use my TF all the time, for games, movies, music, note taking etc... My other TFs have a random reboot about once a week, hardly call that UN stable. Over all, ics has been fantastic for me and my 3 TFs, and considering that ics is still in its infancy, I can't wait for future releases... I think its stability will give ios a run for its money.

What makes you say that? Are there any stability issues with iOS? Also, it's not all that relevant how stable iOS is for Asus Transformer users.
It's great that your 2 TF's are stable but you can't deny that's it not like that for a good amount of people.
It took 2 HC updates to get Android stable on my TF but then it was rock solid. I like the performance of ICS and don't miss anything from HC. If only ICS were more stable (for tablets).
ICS might be in its infancy, but it won't have any chance of maturity. The next major version will be announced soon and manufacturers will turn to new devices for it. Old devices will be abandoned like usual and we'll be stuck with an infant ICS.

So what? My N7B ran for over 500h on HC without a hickup, eventually it died because I forgot to plug the charger in before I went to bed.
The fact remains, ICS is plagued by random reboots on the TF, while HC was close to rock solid.
Therefore its less stable than HC, no matter what side of the coin youre looking at.
No way to hide the status bar. I would like to be able to use the entire screen for watching videos like I could with honeycomb.
I miss Voodoo sound module support, and it seems to me that the global max volume (integrated speakers) has been reduced since ICS upgrade.
It looks like what most people are complaining about here aren't what is missing from ICS, it is simply what developers have not updated or developed to be compatible with ICS that they were used to using in HoneyComb. Like the two posters above- Voodoo sound is in the kernel..(barring the paid version) it was not something that every user could use in HC now it is lost in ICS, simply the voodoo modules changed when they updated and supercurio has yet to get it working enough to release, but it will be soon enough.
The other poster said that he misses being able to hide the status bar..it is possible (I think there is already an app that does this now), and certain ROMs can have this function added later as these commands are discovered/developed further. Example, Revolver could disable the status bar from the power menu, and AOKP for ICS (on my phone, haven't tried the TF101 version yet) can hide or show the status bar (my phone has integrated soft buttons, so showing the status bar is a new thing for it).
The main thing that HAS been lost are certain APIs that google realized had compromising code in it that would allow, for example, an advertisement in a webview application to access your contacts, data, etc. So what it is missing, in the end, might be a good thing for your security..
yeah, but what about the smooth 720p playback? previously the Transformer handles 720p youtube content very well, nowadays it just stutter on heavy scenes. Even 720p mp4 doesnt play as smooth as last time. How i miss those days when I watch 720p TV series and movies on my TF
Voodoo sound but ICS is so smooth, especially surfing the Net.
Using Teameos ROM and will never go back to Honeycomb.

got mine 2 weeks ago. It doesn't come prerooted. I flashed Finless 1.4 (4.2.2) and it is working great and stable. The flashing process is quite easy and straight forward. One negative point is (but this is the case for all RK3188 sticks) that the official stable XBMC 12 doesn't work. You need to use XBMC 13 which currently is at Alpha V7 stage and often crashes. Ohterwise very happy with the device

Have a question for you guys as reading how you too flashed bobs JB 4.2 ROM. As you know there are choices for space of the apps. 2,4,6 gb. I first tried the 4gb. But when I did. The box on that choice went from green to dark blue. Everything else remained green. Tried to flash and it got a error message. So flashed and just left that line alone with the default 2gb. This time it flashed no problem. But now I'm stuck with 2gb. So Gona refresh. Is it normal for that box to turn blue when you make the choice? If anyone knows..please inform me. TY.

AHH okayyyy, that's why then, for LARGE GAMES
if this is the case then you have to try DirectoryBind this app let's you move all the large data files of any game to the external sd card and fool the rom that these files are still on the internal memory. the app supports syncronisation of the files between the external and internal memory.
great tool, i use it and i love it.
but before you move the game data to the external sd card you have first to install and run everything on the internal.
anyway this is just a solution if you can't get the 6GB config.
why don't you flash the stock 4.1 rom, run it then flash Finless's ROM with the 6GB? i think this way you get the CX919 really FORMATTED
GOOD LUCK
So how do you guys like the CX-919?

I finally got the 4gb . The directions tell you to reboot between wipe and flash. Ignored that. Did wipe. Chose 4gb. Color still changed from green to blue. But went with. Flash went ok. ROM is fine. Link2sd works. Might try directory bind if it does not cause issues with Link2sd. But DB sounds better for large games. Well time for some more testing. TY

I can tell you a little. I did not play around with the stock ROM to much. But I did flash finless 4.2. Had a little trouble with getting drivers installed. Seems that is normal deal. But it worked out. As for device. Its fast! I have not had any lockups or reboots. Video from USB thumb drive and SD card play fine. DLNA works surprisingly well. On this ROM. Netflix is not working. Crackle is not working. Real bummer. Most apps install fine and work. Buy seems like any apps that would turn it into a true smart tv device wont work. I already have a smart tv with these apps. So, that does not bother me to much. But if your going to use it for turning a tv into a smart tv. Well, Forget it. I may try the 4.1 Finless ROM. Read where people were saying these apps work on it? Will see. Anyway this is a fast great device and am having fun with games...

cx919 on stock vs Finless
I used it a bit with stock rom, now I am on Finless 1.4 (4.2.2) ..
- On stock my favorite Dice player didn't work (was showing "can't start video", even when u try to open it), some old Logitec USB camera was not detected by stick/skype, videos from external hdd plugged were playing ok.. Interesting that Antutu crashed during testing...
- Finless brought me really ugly splash screen, as well as old usb camera support in skype, which I tested and it worked pretty good during 45min conversation.. Dice player now works but in a funny way.. a bit slow.. (I saw decoding is done using software and didn't have time now to find option for hw decoding.. should be better).. It is nice that some crappy useless apps are gone, but on the other side developer added some "game mapper controler" and few other apps which are at least for me and for now useless (better would be to mention them in readme so user can download them)..This is about reboot app for example, which could be super usefull, except that it froze somehow my stick and I couldn't start it not even after hard reset.. Flash of Finless again boot it up again.. For SuperUser developer decided not to use the most popular and open source app, but at least in this rom there is root (Stock was pain in the ass to get the root, if u manage to get drivers work).. The biggest problems, however was very difficult mounting of external hdd and even usb. From USB I eventually was able to play videos, while HDD was "blinking" all the time, it even showed up in a list but when I tried to access it it was impossible.. I lost patience waiting, cause I know that on stock that was way much shorter then 3+ min I was waiting on Finless.. Beside this issues I noticed that sometimes mouse/pointer doesn't move and on stock that never happened.. Is that lockout or? This was really annoying, when u know it's quad core and on stock it worked good.. It happened that
All in all good work with some annoying issues which will hopefully be fixed with 1.5 .. Thanks to author.. Cheers

got mine 2 weeks ago.

Working great and stable means it doesn't load widgets and things after boot much slower then stock? Mounting external storage like usb or hdd works? Cause I couldn't make it mount other storages AT ALL... Plus it happen that randomly got super slow, that playing videos got a bit funny and sooo on.... Please write a bit more of ur experience.. How u r actually using this stick..? 10q

Well, I can't tell much about widgets because I'm not using any. I installed Nova launcher since the beginning.
USB sticks definitely work on mine. I am using ES Explorer and the stick gets mounted under USB0 so I only need to browse there to access it. My stick is plugged in the USB slot of my tv. I was surprised to see that the power it gets from the USb slot is enough but it works fine and is convenient because the stick starts automatically whenever I switch on my tv and turns off when I turn off the tv.
Mostly I am using the stick for watching life tv from the net (my desktop contains browser links, no widgets) or YouTube for the kids, or XBMC or watching movies which are stored on my pc

Slow unresponsive tablet, check this out

One issue on android tablets ia there are programs that run on boot. Com.Samsung.indexservice is one of these programs. I rebooted about ten minutes ago, and system is still running at or near max cpu frequency. If you shut gour tablet down all the time, each time you turn your tablet back on there will be a long delay before indexaeevice finishes running. I seldom turn my tablet off, unless i need to reboot. Get an app like "cool tools" and you can check this out.
15min and its still running.
There its fiinishing up. 17 min
Before seeing the best performance, wait twenty min. This happens on my other android devices as well, it jhst a different program.
The second is a little more nebulous. When swiping across its been reported there can be a slow responce, maybe having to double swipe. It seems to me that note is more sensitive to off angle swipes, More so than my other android tablets. What i mean is gou need to be closer to a 90% swipe from the edge, for proper responed. Pen is definitely better, and i often use the pen instead. I dont notice misses with the pen.

are you talking about "Unfortunately, IndexService has stopped" problem ? Pls check below thread. I'm also having same problem, but no solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470110
This is not the "indexing service has stopped" issue you asked about.
Every time you restart Android runs the index service to index your sd cards. This is normal and what the OP is talking about.

since the day we got root, i've had this frozen. it's still a pretty laggy tablet for a $650 price. i'm pretty sure it's got mostly to do with TW. using the dev rom on my s4 and that thing flies now.
the galaxy note 8 and gn 2 work fine with TW though. both are exynos4 - one on 4.1.2 (gn2) and other on 4.2.2. i'm supposing some change in 4.3 or the version of TW on 4.3 must be slowing things down a good bit.

I dont understand the lag. My tablet does not show any lag issues at all. My p600 is smooth enough for me to run in power saving mode most of the time. When i read these post it doesnt seem like its the same tablet at all. By any chance are you using a high speed microsd . This could be a difference in machines. Just wondering?
Have you tried one of the cpu monitor programs to see if something is causing it. Ive had good results with "cool tool". Look for the tick to name app using most cpu time. Turn most everything else off.
As a very simple comparison, quadrant is 3 times the score, and an tu tu is twice the score of my asus tf700, which is running the latest cromix i. My day to experience supports this.

biggest lags comes with browsing the old reader (don't use apps when websites are available and i prefer tabs) and having scroll mark as read on. the verge is laggy sometimes depending on the images. play store stutters until the app icons show up.
chrome is the worst with the web lag, but none remove it completely.
all video players that i've tried (bs, xbmc - so far the best, mx, archos...) experience at least one frame dropped every minute on a 720p high profile l3 @ only 2.5Mb/s with ac-3 audio. if it doesn't render the audio it'll play perfectly. even my daughter's memopad hd7 with a cheap ol' mediatek chip plays better - granted it's at a lower res.
hopefully an AOSP rom will come out that'll fix a bunch of this sluggishness. as soon as i switched to a GPE rom on my s4 it's blazingly fast. granted, an AOSP rom won't be as drastic since it won't have access to the closed drivers a ported GPE does.

I'm curious, what size external sd card, are you using? This isn't normal behavior. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but it's likely that you have a corrupt file somewhere, on your device. Mine runs if I remove my card, and make a lot of changes, on my pc, and re-insert the card. But, once it finishes indexing, I don't really see any significant additional activity, from IndexService, even after a power down, unless there were significant changes to the cards contents. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483944
On another note didn't you have a Transformer TF700? What do you think about it vs. the Note 10.1 2014?

Although freezing it definitely works, it's not ideal, in my opinion. If you change, or update content on your device, often, you won't be able to access the files, you've changed (the tablet doesn't know things have changed, and can't find the files).

On every tablet i own there are indexing type programs that run on boot. Im using a 64 gig card with 32 gig internal. One of the reasons i dont like stock galllery is, you cannot control where it searches for files except by .nomedia file in directory. It then loads up book covers and the like that i dont want in gallery.
Size of memory probably does effect time but that depends on how full it is. If a person uses slow memory class cards, it probably will slow indexing. I think having a lot of web storage options may be the true culprit for the length of time it takes to index. However i dont know what samsung is doing so its only speculation on my part. I wasnt complaining. I expect it, but ive been reading about all the lags and complaints and so on in forums. If you take program updates, indexing and other housekeeping chores that happen when you turn your tablet on then yes it might lag, but only for a few min. If your tablet has been off for a day or two, program updates could take a while. By leaving my tabket on most of the time i dont have to go through very often. Thats why i suugested making judgment calls in the first twenty or so min might be misleading to what the tablet can to. Personly i dont have an issue with it.
The only way you can tell whats happening is by observation. My time may or may not be normal and the only way to find out is to use something like "cool tools" to find out.
This tablet is so much faster than my infinity. Ita a real joy to use, and after trying out a couple of other options im glad i dug a little deeper in the pocket to get it.

I agree, it's an amazing device, especially when compared to the Infinity. I also have a 64 gb card, and my experience is similar to yours. It's good to see familiar 'faces' in the forum.

Updated tablets

Just left my local Walmart and seen they had the new versions out already. 99$ for the 8 inch and 129$ for the 10.1. Anyone get one yet? If you do let us know how the performance compares to the previous tablets

New Amazon HD 8 comes out June 3rd starting at $90 US. Looks like better specs than the new Onns. Downside is dealing with FireOS as a bootloader unlock is unlikely.
Anybody have any actual specs on the display resolutions for both the 8 and the 10.1?

Give me a couple of days on that and I'll let you know...
I will say that so far on a scale of 1 to 10, I'll give it an 8.5 to 9. Seems well worth the $129.00 price for what I'm going to use it!

I have enabled it in dev options but have not gotten to run adb commands on the bootloader yet. Maybe tomorrow or this weekend.
I am really hoping to at least root it even if I can't install twrp in recovery!
Will advise ....
Android 10 is a bit different when it comes to flashing
Hopefully you can unlock bootloader and grab boot.img and patch it with Magisk, and flash under recovery like fastbootd even flashing command stays the same
Unlocking bootloader
Unfortunately I can not get Win 7 to recognize the tablet. I have followed the instructions but updating MTK driver installation keeps complaining of lack of .inf file.
May try to access bootloader from Debian and see if that works.
Update on battery life .... I have not plugged it in since yesterday and have used it lightly. Still showing 80% so might have to run a movie to tax it.
Update:
I am unable to access the tablet via adb in Win 7 or Debian. Can't get Debian to recognize the unit in fastboot. Yield to those more knowledgeable
Update 2:
Ran this heavy this weekend and it went to 20% battery after 7 hours so not too bad. I still have not gotten win 7 to recognize the tablet in fastboot. This may be the first Android (10) that I own that isn't rooted. The damned ads are killin me!!!
Update 3 (4 June 20):
I have given up on rooting for fear of bricking the tablet. I have, however, installed the Blokada app and it at least blocks the annoying ad images on web browsers. Downside ... the ad text shows but I can live with that.
Battery life is still excellent so I'm gonna leave it "as is" for the moment.
So I didn't realize this was the latest tablet and attempted to root it via the older 8" tablet boot.img. The tablet won't boot now, does any have the stock boot.img? thanks!

Any luck finding any stock images for these tablets? I have the 10 inch 2020 tablet and have AOSP's generic images on the tablet -- I thought I could pull the boot.img from that tablet (both prior to and after rooting it with magisk) and use it on another one of these ONN tablets...
... but I seemed to caused the tablet not to boot (can still get into fastboot/recovery).
I just wanted to pull the stock image from it so I could reflash my tablet and return this one, but looks like it might get returned in this state. I reached out to Walmart to see if they would share the stock firmware and they asked for my email but I haven't heard anything yet.

Adb doesn't work, but fastboot works
I bought it yesterday 10.1 inch, and to me it feels ok 3 gb, , and I'm able to get unlocked , fastboot , but I had different adbs installed on my PC , first one wouldn't unlock it, second one would...so I even see it on booot, your tablet can't be trusted error , but I cannot for the life of me get adb to recognize it..tried every driver I found, Linux Ubuntu as well, all fastboot commands seem to work fine, strange! If someone helps me find a stock image for it, i will will majisk the boot.img, and push it,, but I can't find it.. adb devices never show anything tried win7, Linux Ubuntu laptop, and win 10..
It scrolls strange with chrome, on internet , but not terrible, feels nice to me overall, help me find stock, and I will post screenshots , and tutorial but that's where I'm at, I have no need for twrp, just want root to remove these 3 or 3
4 Walmart apps....thanks...

Here is a vid so you know I'm not a troll
Bootloader unlock proof:
https drive.google.com /file/d/1eKFrWD6FtkzwD0NC_aT6Ri3VovXZiJMF/view?usp=drivesdk
(I'm a new junior member, so I can't link the video url, you will have to rename the above link - properly)
Also found you can disable and remove Walmart adds, which is a plus, still cant get adb to recognize, refer to my last post, but can unlock bootloader: fastboot worked for me, so patiently waiting for a stock image, as I can't backup my boot.img without adb not detecting the device..seems doesn't matter if rooted or not as my main goal was to disable and hide Walmart shortcuts(which it lets you do in the Apps), I don't see adds on 10.1 in chrome , as the last guy said, maybe that's an 8 issue. Google browser is buggy though..overall I like it..but I'm no gamer, hope that helped someone

Lastly, if you have big hands it feels amazing for the size, if you set to auto rotate, Portrait is how I like it (then flip when you watch YouTube), but if you have small hands and want to type, I think it's better not to buy this device...not designed right for small hands and on screen typing....just my Take
Just wanted to add my 2p to this thread:
Got this tablet a few weeks ago and have been using it fairly regularly. I can say with some certainty that, for $130, the 10.1" tablet is fantastic value for money. I say the 10.1" because it has the benefit of having 3GB of RAM. I would be hesitant to purchase the 8" as it only has 2GB.
The screen is very nice, battery life has been adequate for my uses (do not consider that an in-depth analysis), and the MTK chip inside the thing has hardware decoding for almost all major codecs. I did have to switch to SW decoding for some 10bit HEVC content I was watching last weekend, but the tablet actually handled that really well, and I didn't notice any hitches or slowdown even with the content being 1080p.
One downside, however, is that this is definitely a budget device when it comes to CPU performance. For the vast majority of thing you don't notice, but for heavier sites (such as, for e.g., Autotrader) really slow things to a crawl. Those are definitely the exception rather than the rule, though, with Autotrader being the only one that impacted me personally. And even then, there is an app for that.
Even though I am someone who used to root these devices a lot, all of the features present in Android 10 means I really don't feel the need to do that anymore. Any built-in apps can be easily "disabled", even if they can't be uninstalled (but with 32GB of onboard storage, I really don't think that would effect anyone that much). This is also entirely stock Android, so that's nice compared to the competing Fire tablets.
One thing that I do wish could be easily disabled is the little "Walmart logo" navigation icon. Again, all bloat can be removed so it's really nothing more than an eyesore. But I am exceptionally picky with that kind of stuff, so if that is the only thing I have to complain about, I will consider this tablet in good shape!
Agree with u!
I just think it feels amazing, and hate fireos, but agree with you, I'm happy with Netflix and YouTube and duolingo, so I don't know the others..and language learning audio books. ....doesn't need rooted,. But, I like making backups and making it mem light as possible..gonna try to use that FWUL to get Adb , working, still can load image.bin for root, whenever we find a stock, as fastboot works.. but even if not, this feels solid, once you disable like 6 crappy programs ..I really like it, even if it never gets rooted..I disabled all Walmart apps and a couple others like YouTube music, and went light on Google play store, no updates/sync running , happy with it.
9/10 for what I need it for..once you get used to typing and scrolling, and ooohh that sweet battery life!
I was just hoping I could find a stock image before return policy.

Stock boot and recovery images are in the stock images thread, I posted the 10 pro last night.
I can't get root on either the 8 or 10 pro. Patching the boot image doesn't work, device bootloops. If it's a non A/B, system as root device, then I'd patch Recovery and boot that way, but it didn't work either.
I'm not sure how to get root working.
Is bootloader unlocked ?
And , did you disable secure boot first , with fastboot? I'll help you as much as I can
---------- Post added at 02:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:41 PM ----------
try to flash a magisk patched boot.img as:
fastboot --disable-verification , in front of your patched boot.img (or whatever it's named mijisk edited)**" also don't know exact command offhand , something similar?
If I boot in recovery, I see secure boot enabled
Also, are you able to go back to stock? Or is it all ****ed up now
Keep me updated as I got a week left to return it, also thinking of other solutions...
