[Q] Can it be replaced with S=Off - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Gotta send in the phone for replace cause it's been boot looping non stop. Tried all methods of getting the original rom in there through fastboot and I'm still in boot loops.
Question:
I'm sending the phone into Asuiron under the handset protection i've been paying every month. Will they still replace the phone with S=Off?
Or can I take it to TMO for a replacement? and will they take it with S=Off

Sending phone back to Tmobile but...

My phone got dropped last night and half of the screen has gone black. I need to send it back.
My plan was: Install stock rom then unroot.
I was on Cyanogen RC2 and I downloaded and tried to install both files from the "Stock Restore" section of the Resource Bible but both times, after I wiped everything and flashed the appropriate file, it takes a few seconds (way way less than usual when flashing a new ROM) and then says it's done. After I reboot, I'm still with Cyanogen. What is the deal and how do I actually get this thing back to stock?
Also, what does Tmobile do if you send back a phone that's been rooted and has a different ROM on it?
I think it depends on if you are trying to get warranty service or an insurance replacement. If you are using your insurance, I don't think it matters what you have done to your phone...insurance is insurance. They won't do warranty service on a rooted phone though. I would wait for some others to chime in, but it might be a good idea to just finish it off and get an insurance replacement.
Wait, are you trying to flash the pcxxxx.zip (can't remember the rest this early) through recovery? If so it wont work I don't think you need to boot into bootloader and it will find the file flash it and your unrooted.
Hope that helped,
Nic

It's the PD15IMG.zip file.
How did you root your phone. Did you Gfree or root.sh or visionary? If you did Gfree you have to go back to that thread and follow the process to reverse it, if you did the others you just drop the PD15IMG.zip file on the root of your sdcard, boot into bootloader, let it load the zip and follow the prompts.
This is how you get it done

Well, Tmobile sent me another since it was only a few months old and under hardware warranty. The issue I have now is, the screen won't come on at all for me to get it back to stock. Will they see that and honor the warranty or will they fix it, see that it's rooted and not honor it?
Any encouraging words?

Well s=on is different then being unrooted.
you can have s=on and be rooted and has s=off and be unrooted. You never stated you went and turned s=on.
have you tried flashing the PD15IMG via the HBoot screen?

did you try restoring your stock rom from from your nandroid backup?
i had a problem similar to that and i think it was because when i made my backup i didn't have enough space on my sd card so it just got stuck on the boot screen. i just flashed the PD15IMG in the bootloader and it completely restored my phone back to stock.

He's getting cache errors which usually points to a failed eMMC chip which he should've checked before rooting. A improperly made backup will not give out cache errors it will either error out or just bootloop your phone till you wipe and reflash a ROM. So if you can get ADB to recognize your phone and can check your eMMC chip it will most likely be the bad one.
Sorry for your bad experience with the phone just send in for a warranty replacement recheck the eMMC on the replacement. If its good go crazy but be careful in what you flash

Jst bcuz u have the bad eMMC don't mean anything. I have the bad one and I've flashed every sense rom, the liquid rom, miui.us, and demonspeed miui. And I haven't had any problems and I've even rooted and s-off and then put s-on and unrooted, and then rooted and s-off again jst to see if becuz I had the bad emmc it would bootloop or die, and nothing... works perfectly fine. So back to the question, since you can't get into recovery go grab the PD15IMG.zip and place it on root of phone, boot into bootloader, and when it asked for update say yes. Let it do its thing. Then reboot, and bam phone should work again. Then jst reroot and use rom manager to flash recovery and there you go.

You've been lucky so far. Just because your eMMC has not yet died, doesn't mean that it won't. If the OP's eMMC has failed, flashing PD15IMG.zip is not guaranteed to work either. Most people get the dreaded Fail-PU error message when flashing it, which means the phone is truly bricked. It's worth a shot though.
Oh, and I hit 'thanks' by accident, so you get your first one for free.

Yes, I'm afraid it is. I was just trying to give a more realistic account of what eMMC failure is like.
I love the smell of fried eMMC chips in the morning.

Help me brick my phone! (but stay under warranty!)

So! I called up HTC about my phone and how it's been turning off and the 3 vibrates and blinking LED. The guy told me I can send it back, but if they find anything out of warranty, I will be charged. I'm running CM7, and will be charged if they find it. However, since my phone can't be turned off, I can't boot into the bootloader to flash the PD15IMG for froyo. So I need your help to brick this phone so they can't see that I'm running CM7, but keep it under warranty!
Thanks!

Um. It can be turned off. Take the battery out.
and you don't need power buttons to boot into boot loader Esp if you are running CM7.
from your adb input either CMD on the computer or Terminal Emulator via the android market.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader

They told me to take the battery out, but they said if they find any unrecognized software on it I'll be charged, so I'm assuming they'll be attempting to get into the phone lol.

i can tell you, you will have to reboot the phone with ADB. It won't go into an "off" state. but it will be rebooted a few times via the process.

Step 1) go to local hunting/sports store
Step 2) buy stun gun
Step 3) take off back cover of phone. Turn on stun gun. Run it along phone
Step 4) you're done
I've also read hooking up positive and negative leads to a car battery does the trick, although I wouldn't suggest that..

I bricked my first mt4g almost a year ago.
I was rooted via gfree but never did the eng-hboot, so I decided to return to stock cause I thought something was wrong with my phone and that restoring can't be any harder than apple devices...boy was i wrong. I flashed the stock img in hboot and it was game over. T-mo sent me a replacement though cause they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, it said i had s-on and everything [^_^[]

Help, please.

I bought my 13 year old sister a mytouch 4g off craigslist (she loses her phones a lot) and it was working fine at first. Set up her gmail and all that. Then I put in her old sim card, installed the facebook app and the phone froze. Went into bootloader and did a factory reset. Worked fine for a bit then it froze again. Now when I turn it on it gets stuck on the logo screen and when I try to reset via bootloader it freezes too. I'm trying to root it but usb debugging is not enabled and I can't get into the settings to enable it. I've been at it for hours, my brain is fried, can't think of anything solution. Someone please help me.
Makes me wonder if the eMMC chip hasn't gone bad. If so, you're SOL. You could try putting one of the PD15IMG.zip files on the sdcard and reinstall everything fresh -- certainly wouldn't hurt to try. If the PD15IMG file fails to install then that confirms you've got a borked eMMC.

Try to make a gold card, then put the pd15 on it, and then update it.
