My phone got dropped last night and half of the screen has gone black. I need to send it back.
My plan was: Install stock rom then unroot.
I was on Cyanogen RC2 and I downloaded and tried to install both files from the "Stock Restore" section of the Resource Bible but both times, after I wiped everything and flashed the appropriate file, it takes a few seconds (way way less than usual when flashing a new ROM) and then says it's done. After I reboot, I'm still with Cyanogen. What is the deal and how do I actually get this thing back to stock?
Also, what does Tmobile do if you send back a phone that's been rooted and has a different ROM on it?
I think it depends on if you are trying to get warranty service or an insurance replacement. If you are using your insurance, I don't think it matters what you have done to your phone...insurance is insurance. They won't do warranty service on a rooted phone though. I would wait for some others to chime in, but it might be a good idea to just finish it off and get an insurance replacement.
Wait, are you trying to flash the pcxxxx.zip (can't remember the rest this early) through recovery? If so it wont work I don't think you need to boot into bootloader and it will find the file flash it and your unrooted.
Hope that helped,
Nic

It's the PD15IMG.zip file.
How did you root your phone. Did you Gfree or root.sh or visionary? If you did Gfree you have to go back to that thread and follow the process to reverse it, if you did the others you just drop the PD15IMG.zip file on the root of your sdcard, boot into bootloader, let it load the zip and follow the prompts.
This is how you get it done

Well, Tmobile sent me another since it was only a few months old and under hardware warranty. The issue I have now is, the screen won't come on at all for me to get it back to stock. Will they see that and honor the warranty or will they fix it, see that it's rooted and not honor it?
Any encouraging words?

I finally got my "Alltel Bee" rooted last nite using super one click. Before I roll out any custom roms etc, I'd like to make sure I get a backup, and my phone is hanging on the alltel logo whenever I try to boot into recovery (whether I boot in from Rom manager or from Hboot.) I always end up pulling the battery and rebooting the phone.
I do have an idea as to how I got to this point, and I have only myself to blame, but in my frustration of trying to root this thing I did try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743289 and recovery has hung like this ever since.
I've got root now, and have installed Rom manager, used that to flash clockwork recovery, yet I still have the issue. After a few google searches, I've seen some suggest that fixing file permissions can fix this, and I've done that as well with no change.
Where do I turn next?
So after some more searching and reading and such, I've discovered that even though I have root access, booting into HBOOT shows S-ON still. Could this be the issue in my inability to get a recovery written? Anyone know how to deal with it?
How do you know it is a hang in recovery? If you see the triangle and nothing happens, just click the power button once and usually you will land in the recovery mod menu.
I don't get the triangle at all. I get the initial Alltel logo and that's it. I've waited several minutes before pulling the battery before, but I don't get to the triangle or the menu.
Super one click will only do a temp root. There are no hard roots for the bee that i am aware of. DO NOT TRY UNREVOKED AS IT IS FOR THE BUZZ AND COULD YOUR BEE OR A FROYO BUZZ

Doh! Thanks, I guess I'll wait patiently. (My network switches from Alltel to AT&T inside of 2 months, at which time I'll be provided an Aria.)
Still, it would be nice to customize this thing a bit before it turns into an mp3 player
Send me a boot.img from the bee and I'll get you a recovery

I also have the SDK installed, I've been looking into writing some code for this new toy...
edit: I think I have what I need to get this pulled. Ill see if I can find some time for it this weekend.

just starting out. complete noob
But if i can help in any way let me know. in the same boat as the original poster. our section of Alltel is being acquired by at&t and switching to the aria. but would love to help any way i can
Would love to get my "bee" rooted to play with it some more to get familiar with it all
Just got through doing a romdump. Which files do you want?
I am also having this issue... has anyone successully extracted a recovery image for the bee?
I have an Epic myself and the security of this new HTC phone threw me for a loop. Anyway , I was trying to put CM7 on his phone , starting from stock. I managed to get CWM 3.0.0.5 on it and then flashed the CM7 from here. Now it is stuck on the white Tmobile screen , Ive let it sit therefor an hour and nothing. But the real problem is that I cant find a way to restore to stock and start over. With the Epic we use a windows program called ODIN in case something like this happens. Ive tried using ADB but the phone is showing offline so I cant push any commands to it. Is there an app like ODIN that will let me factory reset this phone and try this again? Thanks

Sounds like you rooted and flashed CM7 onto it without having s-off. If I'm not mistaking there is another thread similar to this one somewhere. Also you need cclockwork 3.0.0.6 to flash back and fourth from stock and other roms.
you need pd15img.zip on your SD
pd15img.zip reboot into hboot with that file and the part7-0000000000.bin file on your sd and it will load and ask you to push volume up to confirm then wait, it will restore the phone i know i did it, took me 3 damn days to figure out you need that part7.bin file on your sd with that pd15img.zip file...or its a no go, trust me this WILL def work...its a life saver, i did the same thing you did...had clockwork and no s=off...now i successfully restored it and sent it back to tmobile because before i solved it i panic and called for a replacement, told em it wont turn on, they sent the new one, and about 20 mins ago i flashed cm7 after folling this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 to turn s=off...works great good luck
Where do i get the part7 file and the other one? Thank you

It was creates with you permanent rooted it.. should be on your SD card. In the rooting instructions it tells you to keep that file around.

Just make sure that u dnt keep tryin to flash the rom cause u gonna end up gettin the cant mount cache & data errors, which once that happens nothin can b done with the mt4g.. So if u used the gfree method to root the phone u should have the part7-xxxxxxxx.bin file, stick that to the root of the sd card & put the pd15 file to the root of the sd card, powerdwn or battery pull, reboot into recovery & let the phne do its thing..
I don't think he has that part7-xx......bin file for his mt4g phone since he did not run gfree patch. You can't do stock nandroid restore also because that requires CWM 2.5.1.4 but you can always give it a shot.
Good luck with your boss, hope you don't get fired.

I didn't use the gfree method for getting perm root.
So i never got that part7 file that you speak of....
I have found them online to download but even using someone elses i still doesnt load the .zip from hboot :{
I downloaded the glacier file , like 350 MB or something , renamed it to PD15IMG.ZIP (had to leave the .zip out because windows). Then I found the part7.bin file from another thread. Put both on sd card. Vol down and power, it found the pd15img file and started restoring the image. 15 minutes later the phone boots up just like brand new! Thank you to everybody who helped with this! Sometimes I dont know what i'd do without this place!
P.s.- he still wants gingerbread any suggestions as to best rom?
Thanks again everyone

I think you made a fine choice with CM7. Just make sure you are rooted and have flashed the latest clockworkmod through ROM manager (3.0.2.4 I believe) and it should flash without issue.
My mytouch 4g that i just rooted is stuck at the mytouch 4g screen. I downloaded a custom rom and since then its stuck at the mytouch 4g screen! when i go to the recovery it says cant load cache and missing things so something is wrong i really need help this is my only phone!! please anyone
did you try restoring your stock rom from from your nandroid backup?
i had a problem similar to that and i think it was because when i made my backup i didn't have enough space on my sd card so it just got stuck on the boot screen. i just flashed the PD15IMG in the bootloader and it completely restored my phone back to stock.

He's getting cache errors which usually points to a failed eMMC chip which he should've checked before rooting. A improperly made backup will not give out cache errors it will either error out or just bootloop your phone till you wipe and reflash a ROM. So if you can get ADB to recognize your phone and can check your eMMC chip it will most likely be the bad one.
Sorry for your bad experience with the phone just send in for a warranty replacement recheck the eMMC on the replacement. If its good go crazy but be careful in what you flash

Jst bcuz u have the bad eMMC don't mean anything. I have the bad one and I've flashed every sense rom, the liquid rom, miui.us, and demonspeed miui. And I haven't had any problems and I've even rooted and s-off and then put s-on and unrooted, and then rooted and s-off again jst to see if becuz I had the bad emmc it would bootloop or die, and nothing... works perfectly fine. So back to the question, since you can't get into recovery go grab the PD15IMG.zip and place it on root of phone, boot into bootloader, and when it asked for update say yes. Let it do its thing. Then reboot, and bam phone should work again. Then jst reroot and use rom manager to flash recovery and there you go.

You've been lucky so far. Just because your eMMC has not yet died, doesn't mean that it won't. If the OP's eMMC has failed, flashing PD15IMG.zip is not guaranteed to work either. Most people get the dreaded Fail-PU error message when flashing it, which means the phone is truly bricked. It's worth a shot though.
Oh, and I hit 'thanks' by accident, so you get your first one for free.

Yes, I'm afraid it is. I was just trying to give a more realistic account of what eMMC failure is like.

First off, let me explain what's happening. Just by my post title you are probably thinking, use the search button. I have and will, but my situation might be a little different.
I had unlocked my phone, rooted it and installed cwm in the past. A friend of mine came over this past weekend and offered to install a custom rom on my Atrix as he did with his and he would show me what to do to update it, restore, or try different roms later. Well I had to leave for a hour and while I was gone he messed something up. He had then essentially returned my phone to stock. It's no longer rooted and when I start my phone it no longer says unlocked. Do I need to go through the unlock process again or can I just root and install cwm? Can anyone tell me where I should start?

Have to flash pudding again. Then install cwm and play from there. Most ROMs here are pre-rooted, so no need to root anything.

Trying to return phone to stock and CANNOT enter the bootloader for it to recognize my stock image on the sd card because the darn power button is broken/stuck.
I try adb reboot bootloader and that sends me into FASTBOOT, NOT bootloader
any other way to get to bootloader (without use of the power button) or flash back the stock rom?
Thanks!
There is an app on market called quick boot that you could try. Hope it doesn't boot into fastboot too. Otherwise just try to flash an unrooted stock rom, that might work for what you need.

I use an app called Widgetsoid, which includes the ability to make a widget that can reboot your phone, Can be set up so that you choose how to reboot (Recovery, Power off, etc).
Requires SU access to reboot with the widget, and please be aware that when I had a couple different roms, the widget simply failed to reboot at all -- for example it works fine when I'm running Darkside Sense 4.0, failed to work at all on meXdroidMod Ghost Chili's rom.
Hope this might help ya out
I found an app called button remapper thanks to I forgot who.
It will remap power,but...
It will not work to turn the phone on,and once you use it to get to recovery, you will need the power button to scroll through,so you'd still be in trouble if its completely broke.
Pm me and I could send you the file when I'm on the computer tonight.
If you want to try.
Or search for button remapper on xda.I don't think its in the market.

How about if you go to install zip from sdcard,or wipe/reset,did I miss something where you can use the trackpad to go back, when there is no go back option?or like I was saying, you would need to hit that trusty power button to ho back.
I don't know,I might have missed it after flashing about 500times.
But pretty sure I use the power button all the time to go back after wiping data, then cache, power to ho back, wipe dalvik, power to go back, install zip from sdcard, power to go back, then reboot system.

Getting a bit sidetracked here, I am trying to revert to stock ROM and cannot because the Power button is broken on this piece of crap and I cannot get to bootloader.
• adb reboot bootloader and that sends me into FASTBOOT, NOT bootloader and does not load image
• no option in Settings > Power or Settings > Applications to disable fastboot (I have gingerbread)
• using CWM recovered > Install zip from file does not work
Can anyone advise a way to revert to stock image without HBOOT, that actually works and does not require the power button?
P.S. this whole thing has really made be disenchanted with the mess that is android right now. Since it seems that it really android is not open or owned by google. Instead owned by the carriers. I should not feel like a criminal for wanting a basic android phone. Makes me almost want to scrap and get an iPhone.
Firstly, its not the Android OS that's the problem. Its your broken ass phone so calm down. If your thinking Android is not open, go ahead and get an iPhone and you'll see what a not open OS is really like.
Secondly...
I read you have Clockwork recovery installed. Flashing this image through Clockwork will at least make it look stock. It is said you will lose root but probably keep S-ON.

Why are you trying to revert to stock if you don't mind me asking? Are u sending it to HTC for them to fix it? They wont care if your rooted they will just wipe your phone and put in the mysense gingerbread rom. I highly advise u to contact HTC and check your warranty. I sent in NY CM7 mt4g and they fixed the power button for free.

Thanks, frustrated is all. Taking it out on Android OS, but really peeved at GOOG
- for having caved into the carriers by letting them bastardize the OS with their mods, forcing me to feel like criminal in modding and jumping through hoops to get a vastly better experience
- for not outbidding verizion on that wireless spectrum and becoming a carrier themselves
Was original N1 owner (first week) and will prob sqitch to galaxy nexus (as soon as they get on more carriers)
Thanks on the suggestions, tried to reflash through CWM several times and keeps giving me installation aborted.. will download again (in case is corrupted) and try again; Interesting other suggestion, will take a look at, but not much time, have to send back replacement tomor
Thx again
You can also try this. It is a nandroid restore somebody made. It seems a bit more involved because it looks like you need to use an older version of clockwork recovery. If I am correct you can find an older version of the recovery and flash it through rom manager, but dont quote me on that one.

When I had a MT4G and the EMMC chip died I hooked the phone to a 12 volt battery and fried it. I then called and told them I plugged the phone in to charge one night and the next morning it would not power on. They replaced it no questions asked and I never heard anything about it again.
My mom's power button went out as well. Tmo and HTC flat out refused a replacement MT4G, Saying it was a "known issue". I called them about 10 times total about this problem. They just want to sell me another phone. Full price. Since i've called them so many times they wont even do a Insurance claim.
If this is a "known problem" why the f isn't it being taken care of properly?
Has anyone else had this problem with customer service?
