I'm sorry, but I was not able to understand your question.
Are you asking what the soft reset button is for?

Faulty Power Switch

Hi Newbie here.
My XDAii has just recently started to do a hard reset every time i press the power button. I have updated the rom but this still happend. Please can someone help.
Kind regards Nick
The first thing I would do would be to make sure that your soft reset switch (the one you poke the stylus into) isn't stuck in IE you may have pressed it at some stage and it hasn't un-pressed. If this is still in, and you press the power switch, it might hard reset.
No the sort reset switch is ok. but doesnt do any thing. i have replaed the switch but it still doesnt do any thing??

Xda Neo stuck on windows mobile welcome screen

guys i've installed spb pocket plus and I didn's like it and removed it, after removal the device wanted soft reset. I restarted it but its stucked on the windoes mobile screen ... what to do ??
first take out battery for 30 mins then retry.
if that doesnt work and soft reset doesnt work, then im afraid its hard reset time and you will loose all your data on your device you know how to hard reset yes? press and hold camera & comm button and keep pressed, then soft reset keeping buttons pressed until warning screen comes up asking you to hit green button.........
thanks my friend the xda is now like brand new
no problems, congrats

Touch 3g restart problem

Dear Team,
I have HTC Touch 3g.Yesterday my phone powered down since i forgot to charge the batter .Then i charged the battery for whole day and when powered the phone it comes to the smart mobility screen and it never changes from that can anyone help me to resolve what the problem is?
I tried restarting many times but nothing is happening it comes to smart mobility screen and it hands from there.
Advance Sincere thanks
Vinod
Did you try to remove the battery for a few minutes and replace it and then start up?
Hope it helps!
Hi Nirak,
I tried that also but that doesn't work. Then one of my friend asked me to hard reset the phone this is not the reset button on the back side of the phone. This hard reset will format your phone and bring your phone back to factory setting .
FYI
We have to hold volume down button and Centre enter button and then we have to press the power button without releasing the rest of the buttons. Then it will show a message and after release those two buttons and press volume up button system will initializes and will come back with factory settings
Thank you Everyone hope if anyone faces this issue try hard resetting the phone
Glad a hard reset solved your problem
you must be hard reset your mobile

A soft reset is just power cycling the phone. Are you taking about a factory reset?
Usually you have to go to settings, privacy, and then select factory reset from there. You will lose any apps not backed up, numbers should be fine because they sync to gmail, media will be on your SD card

A soft reset is pulling the battery with the phone powered up. You won't (or shouldn't) loose anything.
Thank you for your advise I will try it and see what happen.

My understanding from reading on these forums, its safer (and accomplishes the same) to power the phone off, then pull the battery. Or turn off fast boot and turn off/on the phone. The problem with fast boot on, is that powering off the phone is not a try power off, but just a deeper sleep mode. A "real" reboot is needed for some changes to take effect.
just pull the battery lol

From my understanding a soft reset is power cycling the phone. IE power off->power on (or with cyanogenmod selecting reset when holding the power button). A hard reset is a battery pull.
At least that's how it was back in my Blackberry days before my G1.

No, a hard reset is a factory reset. Like reinstalling the stock rom etc...
