I've got a few issues that I could exagerate a little bit on and probably get t-mobile to send me a replacement phone. I might just do it if I know I'm going to get one with rc29.
Anyone know what the current replacement units are shipping with?
I believe they are shipping them with the new RC but I could be mistaken...
my replacement
I got a replecement 3 days after I pressed the screen trying to silence my alarm one morning and by the time i could see the screen it was updating to RC30 and it was not rootable and I had just started reading about JF's early work, im just not sure how long ago it was, but it was towards the begining of ota rc30, it was the first time i was asked to update and it came in the middle of the night.
if I had to guess its been 10 days to 2 weeks since I got the replacement...
I bought it on day 1 oct 22, right I called tmob for my replacement 15 days after that(1 day over limit to store return) it came like 3 days later, as they shipped it express but it was a weekend or holiday that delayed next day to like 3 days, so I dunno maybe you can do the math...
maybe somebody got a more recent replacement and can tell you better, but I was told that there were probably no "refurbs" as in went to customers broke and got fixed, and when my replacement was shipped it would be a phone that failed tests at the factory and were refurb'd before leaving htc, it did look like it was in mint condition
bhang
cousin did it last week got a rc29, worth a shot,
worse that can happen is you get a rc30 and no more root lol
you can always just send the rc30 back and keep the broken screen
got it 2 days ago rc29
Cool might just send mine back then, trackball keeps sticking on mine and i don't have root

they are currently shipping rc29....i just received my replacement after i lost my orgignal rc30 locked phone
Well, I got my replacement G1 today, which I rooted and installed Haykuro 5.0.2H within 30 minutes of opening it, but on my old G1 that I now need to send back, do I need to unroot it and install the original software? Id think they would be concerned if they received a G1 phone with G2 software.
Yep, if they find out you modded or rooted your phone, they would charge you... well at least im pretty sure they would lol
false. They only check for physical damages.
I did a warranty exchange with my old g1 (had cracked lcd and I knew it ($100 out of warranty fee was cheaper than $130 insurance deductible ) ) They only charged me because of my screen.
Other friends that have done exchanges have not gotten charged because it was rooted. As long as you master reset it before sending it back, I don't think they notice. None of my friends that had rooted phones were charged.
From my understanding, Tmobile just sends the phones back to HTC to repair or destroy, depending on the condition of the phone.
While they very well might not check... why not just unroot it for ****s? Takes all of 10 minutes
Before I "rooted" my phone I called t-mobile about the warenty, and specifically told them what I was planing on doing "Downgrading to RC29, "rooting", installing somebody else Rom (Thank you JF), ect. and asked if that would void anything or cause a problem with any exchanges in the future. The T-mobile rep informed me that it does not void anything and will not cause any charges of that sort.
Now my first phone I had I needed to return because the speaker stopped working, and one of the first questions they asked me was if I installed any software that would alter the sound settings. so being paranoid I did reinstall to the stock RC33 just in cause they came back and said it was the modded software that caused the problem.
same here
i did it with the old phone i exchanged they only check for damage to the phone
Id imagine it wuld give the next user problems if they have no knowledge of root, and just cause them 2 send it back in

I'd think that if the phone is going to be refurbished that they would reflash it as part of that process.

If they know what theyre doing, but id hope they do
when i jettisoned my g1 (i hated it but my girlfriend loves hers so i still get to fiddle with the g1) i restored it to factory ota defaults... you never know and what's a few minutes of your time to ensure that you'll get what you want.
For those of us who ordered the Nexus One on the day it was released (January 5, 2010), we're coming up on one year, which is the period of the original warranty (see http://static.googleusercontent.com...e.com/en/us/googlephone/nexusone-warranty.pdf).
So, if you haven't unlocked your bootloader yet because you didn't want to void the warranty, you may as well do it on January 5th, because your warranty expires then anyway
LOL @ waiting a year to unlock your phone that is specifically distinguished by being unlocked.
Hey, my phone's bootloader is still unlocked you know.
HTC replaced my N1 under warranty, even though I unlocked the bootloader the day I got it. Why wait 1 year to unlock the phone's true potential?

My bootloader is locked and I have access to the full potential of my phone...just 10 minutes longer; the time needed to input the adb commands
I'm not willing to unlock my bootloader since my warranty is for a year (bought mine in september this year) and it's covered by my carrier, not by HTC...they will totally refuse any phone that has been unlocked, but won't care if it has been rooted or so (they are too noob to notice anyways )
Time sure does fly when your having fun on XDA. Still able to do everything I need with it locked
I bought mine in May and originally unlocked the bootloader... I highly recommend NOT doing so.
For one, its pointless. You can root and install custom bootloaders/kernels/roms without unlocking the bootloader
Second, you can't go back.
Third, you'll have a huge ugly unlock icon on every boot-up.
Fourth, you can't go back.
Fifth, you'll have a huge ugly unlock icon on every boot-up.
Nuff said.
I did a warranty swap for mine and luckily got a replacement that I am keeping locked (bad headset jack btw).
There is no reason to go back, and the unlock icon looks fine. What a bunch if stupid ass excuses that make zero sense.
Actually I'm not keen on the padlock, and do get tempted to lock mine back up every so often. Functionality wins though.
Mine was shipped January 7th, so the end of my primary warranty is imminent too. And I got two warranty swaps out of it, too.
It turns out I have an extra year of coverage though - yay MBNA Platinum Plus card! But I will have to figure out what is the routine for making use of this coverage. I suspect that device swaps will be out of the question; I'd probably have to send it in for repair and then submit the bill to the insurer.
Another potential snag - I think that in the fine print, to invoke my extended warranty it has to be something that would have been covered under the original warranty. So if I were to unlock the bootloader, and the insurer were to ask HTC, they might get an answer that the original warranty didn't cover my situation.
Mine was unlocked on launch day the moment I got it
The unlock icon is far from ugly, it's a nerd badge of honor.

Wear it with pride!
Never unlocked it, and I never will. No reason for that.

Oh, if your bootloader isnt Unlocked, cant you flash unreleased versions of android, ie upcoming gingerbread?
If i unlocked mine now, would i have to wipe and reflash my current Rom?
I unlocked mine few days after buying mine in February. I just sent mine in a few weeks ago for dust under screen and got a replacement.
They won't reject the phones because they are unlocked. They will however, I believe; reject them if they are still rooted after you send them off to HTC repair center.
I do agree with not unlocking the phone since we have the one click root method.
Can anyone give me 5 reasons why unlocking the bootloader should be done? I rooted my phone and can do pretty much everything I think that is needed.
I'm interested to know what else is being missed out on (I'm not being sarcastic, I'm honestly interested!)
The most valid reason: safer flashing of the radio.

Nope, I sent mine to HTC Repair Center with CM6.1 on it. They sent me a fresh replacement, no additional charges for unlocked bootloader/3rd party ROM/misc scratches/etc...
Hi Guys Just a note If you have Problems with the Hero Screens
After Almost a Year of Using and flashing my Hero, My screen started Jumping and the bottom right keys were impossible to type and I almost gave up hope for my Hero.
Resetting the device and going back to the original Htc rom would solve the problem for a while but I still got it back after a few days
So this is what I did......
Unrooted phone to Original stock Rom and took to my tmobile retailer Uk ( mine is locked to Tmobile Uk) and asked them to send it in for repairs, but the guy didnt really seem intrested to send it as it was over a year and might be out of warranty.
But his supervisor advised him to send it for repairs and did tell me they might charge me for the repairs ( they would let me know before they repair it) even though I had still another 4 months to go in contract, so I took the chance and sent it.
Within a week phone was back with a brand new screen and updated software and I believe they changed the lens as well and no charges
So 5 stars to Tmobile UK for getting my phone back to life and a brilliant after service and I dont even feeli like rooting it anymore at the moment
So do get in touch with your Provider for a repair you never know as I have seen that a lot of hero do have a screen problem
Best of Luck to your guys....
With the new bootloader Samsung seems to have made the root impossible without leave a trace.
After the root we will have knox 0x1 in the bootloader and no chance to reset it to 0x0.
So...
What do you recommend?
Wait for someone to be able to find a solution or root the phone anyway and hoping we can reset the knox later?

Lucky for me, I'm buying mine at Best Buy and getting the Geeksquad protection plan ($10 per month). If the phone bricks or something, I'll return it to them for an expedited replacement (new) at no additional cost! I hope we get root and custom roms and with the risk of tripping the Knox counter since I could care less! :highfive:
I'm keeping it untouched for the first couple of months. maybe there are some bugs or flaws in the device since it's the 1st production line we got. I want to be sure to have warranty if really needed.
I have everything needed to root already downloaded and ready to go. My Note III will not even boot once before it's rooted!
I'm opening the box and booting straight into the bootloader!
Yup I'm rooting as well I'm insured tho so don't really need to worry as I can get a replacement handset if there are any defects from first line
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ill just root and mod...could care less about warranty.
sent from Canada via my S3,S4 or Note2
Protect Your Bubble
I have Protetc your bubble insurance on my new baby here in the UK and it protect against 'Accidental Damage
Liquid Damage
Theft
Unauthorised Calls
Breakdown
Worldwide Cover'
So if it doesn't boot I'm okay, but i'm still on the fence with it really.
Got my device today...having itchy fingers ...will root tomorrow!
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 4
i will probably wait a week or so before rooting.
better sooner than later though

If I'm not mistaken Best Buy has changed there cell phone policy. Now I believe you have to pay $100 or $150 for insurance replacements just like every other carrier. I asked about it and the employee told me that people were taking advantage so it was changed. Just a heads up for you.
I can't remember the last phone the I actually booted into stock firmware. My first boot is always into the bootloader to flash/root it.
I'd wait. My Note 2 didn't see root for 4 months after purchase. The only reason I did root was to add ViPER.
Waiting here as well.
480dpi is killing me tho
Hi y'all!
Actually I was fairly lucky I didn't root right away. The first device I received turned out to be a dud. It took about a week to be sure but when it started reboot looping i turned it in.
Had it been rooted it might had been made an issue.
When I root it though I'll just kick Knox out. Never had any security issues. In my experience it only takes a little common sense.
Regards
Elo.
From what I understand the same issue with the Knox counter stepping up was not fixed yet on the galaxy S4 though the device was released a couple of month back already, don't know if it's really worth it to wait for a workaround to be found soon!
