Friday Sprint updated the Airave software and most customers had their incoming calls sent right to voicemail within the Airave perimeter. The last time they updated the software phones could not make outgoing calls. This last screw up cost me a $2000 job! Customer service tred reactivating both my phones because they knew nothing about the Airave update and resulting outtage. I read about it here on XDA with other Airave customers. I called Airave people direct and they said "sorry" and reset the Airave! A simple text to say there was a software update would have been helpful to diagnose this on Friday not Monday. Anyone interested in starting a class action lawsuit since this is Sprint caused, sign me up! Otherwise flood their tech support lines with complaints. They will give you a "sorry" also.

Things happen... Did you not have a second number for someone to call? Anyways your suit wouldn't get anywhere.. Sprint doesn't have anything that says they guarantee to be up 100% of the time.. Maybe by you not getting that job- Sprint saved your life by you not getting in that car wreck on the way to that job.. hehe.. Or maybe you'll get a call today for a 4,000 dollar job you wouldn't of been able to accept bc of that other job.. I dunno..

I was out of town all weekend and didn't notice the Airave when we got home last night. I'll be sure to check it out tonight though. But I have to tell you, seeing as how they gave me one for free and free monthly service to boot, I would never complain about it especially if they fix it as soon as I called them about it. Sorry you lost that job. I agree that a quick text would have been beneficial.
One of my points was that customer service knew nothing about it on Sunday, 2 days later. I just happen to see 4 others with airaves having problems since Friday and figured it out myself and called the Airave number. They knew!

Sometimes I feel like my Airave is more work than the benefits are worth.
This maybe a dumb question but what is airwave? I don't think I have it but most sprint customers in Virginia are experiencing less than adequtes signal. From failed text to failed calls.

An Airave is a mini cell tower, a femtocell, that hooks up to the internet to use in areas of bad or no signal.

Just out of curiosity, in what order do y'all have it hooked up? It suggests to put it directly in to the modem, before a router or computer. I have mine running outside the network hooked up to a port on the wifi router. I think it works better that way. I don't want it first in line allocating bandwidth, I want MY router first in line.

I've seen people mention getting these for free from Sprint. How do you do that? Do you just ask for it? Service inside my house is crap and it drives me nuts.

I had mine set up as they specified, first in line, until my power flickered two days in a row and both days I had to use a paperclip to reset the Airrave to get my internet service working again. It apparently doesn't recover gracefully from a power outage. Now it is just another item plugged into my router.

Pretty much. It took me to the 2nd level rep to get one, but no more than 15 min on the phone. Also don't call up asking for one, just explain the issue and they should offer you one.

If your service is real crappy in your house and your credit is good enough for an extra line you can call them and complain about the lack of service and they will send you one. It adds $1 and change to your bill for the taxes on the additional line but no other fees. You also need a computer with DSL or Broadband internet.

HaHa, I did that the first time I got one. POS! But got tired of the garbled calls in the Living Room so tried it again. 3G speeds are superfast but when it screws up your phone service with "updates" I get really annoyed and want to throw it out in the street and run it over. If it is working stop trying to fix it Sprint!

Okay, just just get something out of the way here: Only try to get one of these if your service is really bad at house/office.
1: Make sure you actually have dropped calls. Ours were over 5% which is considered really bad, I guess.
2: Call tech support, wait to get connected, then act dumb an say that you've already been through the tech support stuff and you've been talking to a person in retentions for the past half-hour. They'll say well how'd you get to me? Just say that the guy in retentions said that he was putting you on hold to check into getting you a free airave; you've already been through troubleshooting with him.
3: The person in tech support will transfer you back to somebody in retentions and bring them up to where you're at.
4: Tell the person in retentions should go ahead and start the order and then you're set.
5: Is optional. You can have your call drop them, then they'll call you back and you can make a joke about how crappy the service is. (Actually happened to me)
I took the long way through this today, but started in retentions, got tranfs to tech support after checking the drop call rate and doing some basic troubleshooting, then told the guy in TS that I'd been through it all the last last guy in Relations was checking into a free airave for me, but somehow got transfered to him, ect.
I also started out by telling the first guy in retentions that I'd taken 2 phones to the corp store, they had done some PR update (act stupid about it) and now those two phones always have some ^ above the bars at the office, but the service works great and the data speeds can actually load a website in under 3 minuets. The data service at our office has been 0.02 kbps for over a month now, which is why I did the PRL hack in the first place on the two office phones 2 weeks back.
Anyhow, it's on it's way and didn't take that long.
They do check your area and if they feel you are in a good signal area they will not give it to you for free. I only say this because when I called he told me as long as my area qualifies for free airave service he will be able to do it if not I have the option to purchase one. Luckily after he checked the computer he said "great news u qualify". so this will not work for everyone, and it does connect to gps and reports where the device is connected. So good luck, im sure sprint gonna get stormed with calls and eventually they will catch on.

Don't think so cuz you gotta talk to the retentions department...i hate talking to them too cuz of those damn scripts they follow, it's like talking to human robots!
Also should mention don't get caught in a lie about talking to them cuz they do have a record of when you call and what department you talked to. So I'm sure if they know you lied they probably will give you a hard time and might make a note on your account that you lied and who knows they might be reluctant to go out of their way for you in the future, I know I wouldnt want to help a liar. So what if you have to be on the phone with them for awhile your getting something for free if your lucky so not really a reason to *****....
The guys I got didn't talk like robots for once, and they were probably from America. I was surprised. They also seemed quite personable.

Haha, That would be funny. Ask a CSR out on a date, then get married down the road. That would be better than a myspace marriage.
Got one quickly
In our condo, my girlfriend's BB Curve and my Evo averaged 1 bar. While online checking our account, I decided to just email sprint and ask for an airave. Went to "contact us", left a messege and the next day we got a call from customer service, 10 minutes latter we were approved, two days latter got it in the mail, hooked it up last night, and now we are at five bars each. I am not saying it will be that easy for everyone, but for once in my life it was!
Very interesting, was thinking of trying this but figure I got no use for the Airave for now...
I get average -104 to -118 dbs which I heard -120 is no service. This is at my house. I get data roaming message and dropped calls. Went into Sprint and said I couldn't get one for free or heard of giving them out for free. Sucks I don't have internet to use it even if I did call and got one. Do you have to pay the 4 bucks a month for it or is that waived. Waived or not id use it.. just no internet.

If you got it from retentions it is free and the monthly fee is waived. When you go to your account and it lists your devices, it should say retentions next to the Airave.
So if a person were to have terrible 3G speeds they still wouldn't help? My reception is weird, no dropped calls or anything but my reception can shoot up from two bars to four, or six. But my 3G is ALWAYS bad in the town I'm in. Any ideas?

Yeah they don't help you at the store. They just told me they will try to update my phone for tower pulling. Said I already updated the radio to the latest and did the prl update. Worked to a tee. Called Tech got transferred and in less then 5 minutes the girl in retention was putting in my order! She did put me on hold for a couple of minutes to confirm my eligibility. It's on the way for free with no monthly charge.
Awesome tip, thanks again!
As of 5PM EST Sprint is having service issues and appears to be most areas (per conversation with tier 2 tech support).
UPDATE
00:13 EST- Full service should be restored by 03:00 EST.
Service is back up in more areas but still expect intermittent issues. Can personally verify Chicagoland is working.
Thank you so much for letting us know. I'm visiting some family in the Poconos in Pennsylvania and wasn't sure what was going on. I was getting paranoid that something was wrong. At least internet is still up.

I myself am not but have a friend that's Tier 2 ATS @ Sprint. He pretty much said they're running around like madmen trying to get this fixed and still aren't sure what caused it. As far as causes I had suggested to him a partial profile DB dump (went through similar when I was still in IT, not fun). His response was that it was high on the list.

Just from reading this thread, it doesn't seem like the majority - try again.
Btw - No issues here.
Oh, and why would I post about Verizon? You might be thinking of Award Tour no myself.
No issues here in NYC nor any issues communicating with my mom or brother back in Michigan so I'm calling BS on "nationwide".
Also, what network has never had an outage?
Precisely.
So I called to complain that I only usually get <1Mb download on my "4G" Atrix in NYC, having already updated, hard reset, and gotten a "4G" SIM card, they're sending a replacement one. I really think this is gonna work......................................................................................................................................... *cough*
On the bright side, after talking to many ppl in service I finally spoke to someone who didn't sound like a zombie and actually said that the speeds I am getting weren't the H+ speeds, even said it wasn't even 3G speed.
I *****ed a little, and after a few new phones they decided to let me keep an additional phone and give me a laptop dock for free.
Turns out that one of the errors on their side was they never changed what type of phone I had in their system, therefore disabling my HSDPA.

I am on my 2nd one and still having same issue. So a return might not help you. I have spent a lot of time on phone with sprint. They reset my network, hard and soft resets, and their answer is network issues. I get a popping and slight occaisional static on my end of call, other end hears me fine.. I have a 3rd seperate one besides my returned two and that one is fine. What I have noticed is if I roam, my calls are crystal clear, unfortunately I can't force a constant roam. I love the phone so I am gonna stick with it. Possibly the processor and sprint not behaving nicely? I am in the New York area, where are you guys?

I am not an expert, but do read the forums a lot and a bunch of Verizon users had same issue and now sprint customers are starting with same problem. Both CDMA, so possibly, yes, software related.
All of you, Please call Sprint & make them aware so they can fix this. I already let them know as this is my 2nd one & it exhibits the same problems.
I travel between Dorchester and Malden MA most often and I get the same issue. I tried all sorts of things. I did a chat with tech support and a phone call. They setup an appt for me in a corporate store and the tech just dismissed and imediately said it's a network issue with ALL of the newer Sprint phones. He mentioned the S3, S4 and of course the G2 (how convenient) as well as the Note 3. Mind you my daughter just got an S3 a month ago and her phone is fine. The tech just kind of left it at that but suggested he try a network reset with no guarantees of course. He also suggested I try roaming of a GSM carrier (he said we aren't charged for roaming). He also said if it does it when roaming then I should bring it back (I assume then he would actually do real troubleshooting. So I left the store and was in the area for about an hour and things got progressively worse. I ended up going back and the manager switched it out right away. So far the new one sounds pretty good. Time will tell.

I travel between Dorchester and Malden MA most often and I get the same issue. I tried all sorts of things. I did a chat with tech support and a phone call. This was a problem with the note 3 when released on sprint as well "Problem:
*
Voice quality on a connected call is garbled, with intermittent popping, morphing, cracking." I found that a few minutes ago. Same exact issues, both phones have same processor, sprint sent out a patch and it resolved issue for those phones. I have called sprint and been to two stores, returned one, got another with same issue. People need to speak up to sprint forum on sprints site, so they realize we are having same issue and hopefully they fix it soon. CSR s in sprint are useless, a manager at a corporate store said to me " I haven't sold a g2 yet, so I can't justify problem you are having " [email protected]#$ng great answer. I wanted to punch her out of her chair. Hopefully we all can be at ease soon.
I went to the corporate store on Boylston St, near Copley. FYI, the tech that paid attention advised me that the tower near the Pru is having problems so don't walk that way and expect to use your phone. Not only will it sound like **** but you'll drop calls too.
So far with the replacement phone, I've only had the issue a couple times

I was told today by someone higher up in the technical department that the issue is being investigated and should be resolved with a software update.

I am having the same sort of intermittent sound on my Verizon G2 as well. I never had that issue on any other phone before.

I've called Sprint about the issue to let them know and I've called Geek squad because of my warranty with Best buy and Geek squad just told me to get it replaced and I think that's what I'm going to do, if it's something that can be fixed with a software update this one should act the same right?

I just had mine replaced yesterday because of a dead pixel and it is doing the same thing. So I would assume so.
