Hi,
I have never understood the frequencies on the Dell Streak well enough....
Can someone pls tell me if the unlocked Dell Streak (purchased from Dell.com) will operate on both 3G voice and 3G data on Tmobile's network?
I just put in a Prepaid Tmobile sim card and it only works on non-3G voice and GPRS data.
The unlocked Dell Streak works great on AT&T's 3G network.
Thanks!
You bought a US streak, you need to buy an AWS streak to get 3g on tmobile

I purchased a "factory" Unlocked Streak which does not come with a carrier plan, not the AWS streak version with the plan. What frequency does the AWS version have that the factory unlocked does not?
I mean, it's supposed to be unlocked right?
'Factory unlocked', aka retail, models are by default the US model, though AWS streaks arnt available as retail type models
US: 850/1900/2100mhz
AWS: 900/1700/2100mhz
At&t: 850/900mhz
Tmobile: 1700mhz
I have the aws version. Its pretty dang cool.

Do you have a custom rom on it or stock?
I dont have much info at all on cincinnati bell streak roms, and that's the only current source of new AWS streaks. I was wondering what stock rom you have if you're still on stock
Thanks TheManii. And, I am crying now....

Argh!!!!! I am crying now..... I assumed the "unlocked" Streak will work with any carrier, after all, in plain english, that's what it meant to me.... BUT now it does not seem to be the case.
Here's the sw info, and I am on stock ROM:
Android 2.2.2
Baseband GAUSB1A135100-US
Build 15609
What are my options?
Thanks again.

Unlocked means that it will work with any carrier that supports the radio bands it uses, unlocking the phone won't change the frequencies it will operate on. Your options are to use T-Mobile without 3G or AT&T with 3G, unless you find another carrier that supports the Streak's hardware.
Buying an unlocked Streak direct from Dell also meant less crud on the phone, no carrier mandated apps or limited settings (think AT&T) and no contract.

marvin,
does this mean i am SOL? i.e. i cannot re-flash my rom to get the AWS frequencies?
thx.
Reflashing your baseband to support new frequencies is as likely as flashing wp7 and expecting it to work.
Simple answer: no
Long answer: if you spend a couple years dissecting the device and learn everything hardware it might be possible, if at all

That's true on the streak. Some phones have quad band basebands (like the streak 7), but unfortunately not the 5.
On some phones the hardware solution is relatively simple, just a matter of replacing the wcdma amplifiers with news ones with the correct frequencies. However the streak 5 needs a whole new wwan chip in addition to the amplifiers.

In my experience, most GSM cellular network speeds vary wildly.... even with the same device, location, time of day, etc... I will add this: My wife's iPhone 4 (on aTnT), is HARDLY EVER faster than my factory-unlocked Streak on T-Mobile (seriously). I laugh when the monthly DeathStar's debit hits every month..... Her bill is always $127-something per month....... While mine, with tax, is $68.77. I cannot imagine wanting to pay nearly double for essentially the same service. Just my own opinion / personal experience.

What I didn't state outright in my above post is that about half the time, T-Mobile's 2G network is absolutely as fast, and occasionally FASTER than aTnT's "3G" network.... Google it, and you'll see that a lot of other people have also experienced this.....
In other words, me4tux, don't return your Streak because the perception is it'll be too slow on T-Mobile.... Sometimes, it may be.... but not the vast majority of the time "It's all good" at half the price of aTnT

Thanks for posting your firsthand experience. I believe what you see is true. One of my daughters (I have 4!) wanted an iPhone and fled TMO for that. She isn't a happy camper there for sure.
On the other hand, we should point out to the OP that TMO's 3G/4G is much faster than TMO's own 2.5G (EDGE). So he'll still have to cry like me.
I have a Japanese version (Softbank 001DL) and my wife has an AWS version. Both on TMO. I don't think I need to describe the differences in web brawsing speed, but the point is, I went back to using my G1 as my primary phone and use wifi tether to route G1's 3G connection to my Streak.
Actually it works amazingly well. What I see is that my Streak's connection on tethered thru G1 is faster than what I get on the G1 which is directly connected to the 3G network. I don't know why, but it seems like G1 can tether data more efficiently than it can process for its own use.
So if you can't return your device, get a cheap/used 3G phone and tether. Don't forget to buy some extra batteries for full time tethering. G1 batteries are like couple of dollars a piece nowadays.
I hope it helps... Please don't argue like 'Hey, I don't want to carry two phones.' I know that, but this is the next best option if you ALREADY own an incompatible device as far as I know.
Ringochan.....
I think that's a clever solution, however in my case, I would need to have two active SIM cards with the same phone number (because I bought the Streak soley because it can also be used as a voice phone). To sign up for yet another separate T-Mobile account for the singular purpose of accessing their 3G data network (even without voice capabilities on the new account), would be tantamount to killing a mosquito with a sledge hammer..... not to mention then having to carry around two separate devices and pay for a second account/number every month. Perhaps others still may find that a viable alternative.
Personally, I'm going to keep my "2G" Streak.... because it is truly an all-in-one device that, even on T-Mobile's 2G network, runs absolutely as fast (sometimes faster), than aTnT's network at almost half the price

That works in general with all devices that have wifi.
You could buy a evo 3d and use it on at&t in the same manner. It doesnt matter then the former is CDMA and the latter is GSM as they could both do wifi tethering. Hell you could buy like an ipod and jailbreak and load a voip app and use it like an iphone this way. (there's comparatively few android equivilents to the itouch )
Just that carrying one extra device specifically to use as a tethering device isnt for everyone. I was considering tethering my iphone 3g and buying a desire HD last year but decided against it.
Phone generally tether faster then they can use data themselves. They can only handle speeds as fast as their cpus can make use of it. Tethering means it's simply passing packets from A to B and not doing much inbetween.
My streak can only get approximately 2mb/500kb down/up on wifi to a 15mb/3mb connection because it cant process fast enough to use it

A quick re-visit to the AWS versions of Streaks...
I am currently in Asia (Malaysia) and I happen to come across an unlocked Dell Streak selling for about USD$300 new.
How can I tell if this model sold in this part of the world has the AWS frequencies- 900/1700/2100mhz ?
Thanks for all the help.

Locally there's some HD-2 seller's on craigslist that claim that their HD-2's are connecting to the New T-Mo 4G network.
For example: http://orlando.craigslist.org/mob/2168051796.html
Is it true? I am using the Nexus One but I am considering seriously buying a HD-2 because they are selling cheap these days.
Just want some clarification.
Thanks.
Doubtful, the HD2 is not 4g capeable to my knowledge. I know T-Mobile has renamed their data packages to 4G unlimited media but I spoke with a rep last night for another issue and they assured me that this don't mean you will recieve 4G and you would need a capable 4G device...the HD2 is not 4G capable.
Nope not possible..Our HD2's can go up to 3.5G but that's about it. There is an H for 3.5G and an H for 4G. The H doesn't mean 4G on our phones. HD2 doesn't exploit the full benefits of HSPA+ It is definitely faster than 3G but not full board..Our version of HSPA is a lot faster than 3G especially upload speed wise

I got a text when they first broke out with "4G" saying that my phone would support it. Since it came out I have noticed a serious pick up in speed. My wife has a MT4G and our speed is about the same. Not sure what the other guys are talking about but from an extremely non-technical point of view, I would say yes based on the text I received and MY personal experience. I also noticed Orlando was on the list and I vacationed there in Dec., my wife and I both got the HSPA+ service while we were there, just FYI. If you are thinking about getting one to take advantage, you will notice a considerable difference.

I think my post was pretty clear in saying I received a text from T-Mobile stating that my phone would support the new network, and was also pretty clear that I said I am not sure if it "technically" is 4G, but I again reiterate that it is a considerable bump in speed, and that is undeniable. To each his own but I love my HD2 on the new network (as I had it well before the roll out) and to the OP, you won't regret the purchase.

Sure, and a edge phone is also supported on a 3g network lol.
When there is 5g, you will even be able to call and use data. Only not at same speeds. Don't misinterpr.

Thanks for the information guys, I will search for one now. Of course I want it to run Android and not winmo on it.
Thanks added to everyone that replied.
While you will not get HSDPA+ speeds which is Tmobile 4G you do benefit from having a tower upgraded to HSDPA+ with higher transfer speeds approaching the 7.2mbps HSDPA theoretical max and lower latency.

SO YOU MEEN MAH T-MOBILE WING CAN GET DA 3GEES? HOORAE!!!
To sum up this thread because some people are going to get mislead (or still don't understand) T-Mobile has 3G, 3.5G and 4G, the HD2 is a 3G phone with HSDPA capabilities (3.5) and I believe the HD2 is capable of 7.2Mb down and 2Mbit up.
The TEXT you receive saying you're 4G COMPATIBLE does not mean you're 4G capable, it means that because T-Mobile upgraded to 4G, you can still use the network (some older phones supposedly wouldn't work when they upgraded and they got free upgrades [my girlfriend was one of them who had this happen even though her phone was still working])
The HD2 as said is not and will never be 4G capable, the HARDWARE doesn't support it.
3.5G is more than enough for anything you need on the HD2 (or anything), you don't have video conferencing so it shouldn't matter to you (unless you get or make one of those mirror attachments).
That HD2 you see is nothing special, it's just an MDJ kernel (capable of those 1536Mhz speeds you see) with someone who doesn't know what 4G actually is and thinks the "H" icon means 4G instead of 3.5G.
Either way, get the HD2, it's worth it.

Only Edge working on EU LEO in the USA T-Mobile Network Why???
Hi Guys,
I have a speed problem on my HD2 while I am connected to the US T-Mobile network. (In Germany I have O2 everything is working fine.) I bought a prepayed sim card at the Time Square New York. My HD2 was original from Germany T-Mobile. I know there are 2 different HD2, a US version and a European version.
I have this Bootloader running:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-3.03.000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
My Radio is:
R 2.15.50.14
Protokoll Version:
G 15.42.50.11U
3.14.04666
My Rom is:
Artemis 54.0 GER
I also use Android from SD-Card there I have the same speed "only Edge"
I think I need a diffrent Radio to get connected to the T-Mobile US, am I right? I understand your discussion here about the speed 3G or 4G. I would be happy with 3G even if the network provide 4G. So that is not my problem. Is there somebody who had the same problem? Or does anybody know how to get the US T-Mobile running fast Data connection on a EU LEO??
Thank you for help.
dyoll
usually an andriod built would tell u the requirements and which radio u have to have to use their built. i dink ur radio is fine believe mines is that version
I am downloading the T-Mobile US Stock ROM 3.14.1 from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655653
It takes some time with "Edge"
Do you guys think I can flash a T-Mobile US Stock on my EU Leo?

I don't think so, because the EU models have less internal RAM so a stock Tmobile ROM won't fit, unless someone out there cooked it down to use extended partitions. However there are many really good ROMs that will work on your machine. I"m running DL DesireZ, and very happy with it.
Sprint in Talks to Buy T-Mobile: http://www.mobiledia.com/news/83611.html
If Sprint does purchase T-Mobile, it would merge the third and fourth-largest carriers into a single, unified company that serves more than 80 million customers -- 49.9 million from Sprint and 33.7 million from T-Mobile. That would allow it to be vastly more capable of competing with AT&T, which has 95.5 million subscribers, and Verizon, with 94.1 million.
In addition, T-Mobile could also use Sprint's cash, clout and partnership to fund its wireless spectrum needs and 4G rollout.
But the Sprint-T-Mobile tie-up would also be much more complicated. The two companies run incompatible cellular networks -- Sprint on CDMA and T-Mobile with GSM -- which could throw Sprint into a toxic situation similar to when it purchased Nextel, another incompatible network, in 2005.

1. iDEN network is being phased out in 2013, freeing up spectrum for Sprint's 3G/4G.
2. Switching to LTE is supposed to be 'easy' since it shares 70-80% of its DNA with Wimax. Sprint will make a decision on Wimax vs LTE in 6 months.
3. Sprint's Network Vision will consolidate its different network equipment/stations, making them take up less space and less cost to run.
4. T-Mobile is in dire need of spectrum, which Sprint/Clearwire has a lot of.
5. T-Mobile has not yet adopted a new 4G network (LTE) beyond its enhanced HSPA network marketed as '4G'.
It would be awesome to have a GSM/CDMA multi chip phone. LOL
Not a tech guy so I don't even know if that's possible.
But I think merging with T-Mobile would only open up the "dead" areas near me with coverage.

Here in PR, AT&T bought Centenial which was a CDMA carrier. All Centenial customers remained until their contracts were up and then they would have to switch over to AT&T (for now). AT&T started shutting CDMA towers down -which sucked because Sprint used them also, making our signal suck- and are in the process of migrating all CDMA accounts to GSM.
Also happened a few years ago with Verizon in the island. VZN sold its network to Claro and switched almost all their towers to GSM (but still use some CDMA towers for data I believe, not sure).
Personally, I would really like that, but it seems obscure, don't you think, I mean, come on a CDMA/GSM device, imagine how much it would cost, and also the monthly bill would probably go up to cover extra operating costs. Although, it may happen, just think about it

Nothing about a merger implies a CDMA/GSM device, in fact in the event of a merger things would stay pretty much the same for quite a while, it could be years till they make a decision on which path to follow then even longer to switch their antennae over.
If they did merge and keep both GSM and cdma im sure it is possible since the processors in Verizon's iPhone 4 is technically capable of doing both GSM and.cdma be we'll see

Yes, I would love better coverage and, more importantly, GSM/LTE phones without having to go to AT&FT.
On the other hand,
No, we need more competition here, not less, especially if the feds are caving on wireless net neutrality.
If they do merge would be pretty pointless for them to have took the time to make a CDMA Nexus S lol

No, there would never be a CDMA/GSM device, but there could be GSM/WiMax and CDMA/LTE devices.
If a phone has either GSM or LTE in it, that means you can use it anywhere in the world. GSM phones can be used now, LTE phones can be used in a couple years once other countries build out 4G.

If Sprint does get T-Mobile, would T-Mobile be renamed Sprint Spectrum since that's what it was originally?
Remember Sprint Spectrum, it was GSM, then Sprint spun it off, as a company called Voice Stream, to switch to CDMA.
Probably keep the Sprint brand. Takes you back to when Cingular bought at&t or AT&T, whatever capitalization they used.
I say "yes" anything to raise sprints "s" stock, sprint is killing me and I am to much in a hole to sell.... 8( . I need them to be 6 and above to start making $$$$$.

Moving out of April, May should see its share of Android, as well. May 5th is given as the day we can expect the the 4G LTE LG Revolution , and the Motorola DROID BIONIC is loosely listed with a May release, as well. Also without certain dates but listed as launching in May (or later) are the Motorola Droid X 2 and, get this, the Samsung Galaxy S II. I don’t think we expected the US launch of the Galaxy S followup to come so soon, but Verizon is suggesting it might be so (unless they are simply suggesting the launch will come after May).

Here's to hoping AT&T will pick it up, and also that they don't mess with it.
Does verizon runs also on 850/1900 ?
i though they were on CDMA

The international version will work with AT&T but keep in mind AT&T does not offer unlimited data or free tethering.

This is point, Verizon will mod the stock phone to add CDMA radios.

I am on a iphone unlimited plan with them right now. I just can't justify to drop that amount of money for a phone when the plans will cost me the same as getting a subsidized one from them.
Verizon is good in my area, but ATT is better, and the 3G is almost 3 times as fast as Verizon. I also hate the voice quality of Verizon, my area is too saturated with Verizon customers.

Of course if you are already grandfathered into AT&T's unlimited plan then you're fine. I would still be weary of tethering though because there have been recent news of AT&T cracking down on unauthorized tethering for those who don't pay for it.
Yay! Can't believe they fit 4G into such a thin phone, the other 4G phones are quite thick.
not happening.. there is no way that the phone wll be modified in such a short time after initial release to be a cdma version.. also we would have already seen it going through fcc approval if that was the case.
Edit - correct missed that

Take look at this:
I'll let you know that I played with one on 3/19/2011 in a VZW store that was being held hostage by the Samsung rep. Yes, GS2 in VZW and it was the same form factor.

It says "Samsung Charge" 4/7/2011 right in the pic.
Hopefully this means that T-Mobile will see the SGS2 by late April. That would be the case since T-Mobile is GSM right?
Bing, bloat ware, contracts, delayed updates. Oh joy.
This won't launch in May. Doesn't make sense. Why would they release this less than a month after the Charge? Plus, each carrier will make their alterations, just like they did with the original GS line, and that will push a release well into the summer/fall

The Charge is not planning to be released as a flagship device so it is not competing with it. Also since they already have a roadmap out, that means they already have at least several samples for the network and are working on bugs and extra support to meet a deadline.
That roadmap is highly suspect... Many are skeptical of it's authenticity. And the Charge isn't a flagship device for Samsung, but it does have the Droid branding for Verizon, so it doesn't make sense that VZW would launch a superior device a month later. Just my .02

While I agree the authenticity is skeptical it is the only thing we have to go on thus far and we have no received word from Verizon or anyone else proving this false. Also my point was that it was not a flagship device for Verizon either.

Because FCC compliance isn't needed yet. They have no intention of selling it right now. Go look at how far out the Xoom was sent to the FCC. 2 weeks before release. Same thing with iPhones... Manufacturers hold FCC checks until the last possible moment to keep their devices as close to secret as possible. I expect FCC submission to happen about 2 weeks before release.
As for the LTE, the VZW rep was the one that said it had LTE, but I could not confirm it on the actual device as there was no data connection enabled in the software at all. Perhaps that's even more of a confirmation as we have all seen the ATT devices with functioning data connections.
So maybe they haven't gotten the LTE drivers ready for the LTE chipset in the phone??? Or maybe she just had a GSM device and turned off the data so when she went into VZW they wouldn't see "AT&T" on the screen??
Don't know, but I couldn't verify the rep's claims when I looked at the phone. I do know what was both said to me on 3/19 and now what was leaked to phandroid...and they both jive.

So if Verizon grabs our lovely S2 and refits it with a CDMA radio are we looking at the same BS Verizon produced with the Droid 2 Global where it's a """Global Phone""" but it won't work on any other network because Verzion is a criminal organization? Will Sprint/AT&T have the buying power to keep GSM based S2s in circulation? Living here in Canada it's frustrating to be technologically backwards, it's even more frustrating when a greedy corporation like Verizon locks the phone down in the US, eliminating it's availabilty in Canada and making it virtually impossible to get one down there unlocked for up here.....

I suppose I could always order a phone from the international market but with it's market pull (considering it's the only phone that doesn't seem to have any compromise except for the 3 button versus 4 button push) it'll take forever to get one :/

Who is getting this epically awesome plan?
I am!
I felt the need to spread the word.

Not even close to suitable for my needs.

I'm not sure I could ever give up switching phones as I please.
Be ware....It's not prepaid. If you run out of minutes they charge you like 90 dollars. Read the fine print. I had 30 dollars worth of data left I didn't even use switched to tmobile thinking prepaid is prepaid and they sent me a bill for 90 cancelation fee. Didn't even use my 30 worth of paid for data
No, it's NOT just TONS of Data. It's also minutes. 100 minutes? Yeah, I don't think so. This plan isn't that great. If it meets your needs fine, but don't go talking down to others JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T AGREE WITH YOU.

Whoa, not sure where all the hate is coming from. I suppose I misunderstood you and certainly was not talking down to you. So I apologize.
Anyway, my plan is to use Google Voice or sipdroid since the minutes are capped to only 100. I just wanted to make people aware of the opportunity.

I can tell you that I am going to jump on this Sunday.
It is perfect for the 3G GSM cellular modem in my laptop.
I am sick of not having internet access in some places and as I won't ever be using voice or giving out that number it is just perfect and a deal!
Plus no f---ing contract.
Can someone confirm this plans now works fine and it is not a fiasco it was right after the release? I have HD2 Tmobile US and wonder if it will work on my phone?
I barely use my phone for talking and never over 100mins - data is pretty much what I use for the most of the time and this plan seems like a winner...
What else should we know about this plan?

Check HoFo. I haven't found much useful information here on XDA.
Of note, I have found no problems with the plan thus far (have only used it for 1 month)
hey everyone. so apparently mobile to mobile doesnt apply to monthly 4g plans. i never read this anywhere and i tried to do as much research as i could before i tired to get on this plan. but now, after 1 day of ussage, im out of minutes.
if you guys have any specific questions, post them, and ill try to answer them
Fact: I found that I had to buy a $30 t-mo phone at walmart to get this plan, and after activation, I moved the sim to a nicer device (bought a nearly unused lg g2x for cheap). I don't talk on the phone, google voice when I do (voice messages conveniently converted to text) and never give out my t-mo phone #.
History: I have been using boost for a couple years and was happy with their service/plan, but even the rather nice samy prevail (thank you ShabbyPenguin!!) was feeling a bit limited (despite root and link2sd). Was about to try Hoarks CM7 on it. I did not feel like trying to get a regular sprint phone to work on boost either.
Review: Signal strength not as good at home, but I use wifi here anyways. I get about 2Mb data over cell here tho, so not too bad. Phone is a kickass upgrade (CWM, CM7 nightly thanks to XDA forums tutorials!) and I like that I can use my sim in many other devices!
Expect to pay $30 for a phone and $30 for plan. Web activation of phone worked. Be sure to use THE AGENT CODE on the phone box! I bought the $30 card but using the scratch and dust number did not validate online , I called tmobile number and entered it there and it validated (whew!).
hope that sheds some light...

Is the agent code unique? If not, can you share it?
I just ordered the SIM on T-Mobile's website (ended up getting it as an addition to my postpaid plan for my NS which was sitting unused). I followed the activation steps in the booklet that came with the SIM. No agent code needed and I paid $5.34 for the SIM.
NOTE: This only works if you already have a compatible phone with AWS bands. I don't know about activating a newly bought phone on this plan.
Wasn't me!! I didn't do it!
I'm moving back to DC this summer (from Beijing) and I want to get on this plan. But I lost my phone the other day and need something for the next 3 months.
Q: Is there any Android/ICS international phone I can buy that can be hacked to work with Tmobile HSPA+? I'd say the HTC One S would be perfect for me, but I don't think you can get the one with TMobile 1700 CDMA band.

Is the Google's Galaxy Nexus an "international" phone? That may be an option.

Generally, no. Some hacking has been done on AT&T-branded phones (e.g. Galaxy Note) to get them to work with T-Mobile's 3G. However, most phones are incapable of this. Saying 1700 band is a bit misleading - as there are a couple 1700MHz bands that are not AWS (i.e. T-Mobile USA).
So far, all of the Nexus phones (GSM versions, excluding "a" variants which support AT&T's 3G) work with the AWS band. A few others like the Sensation and Evo 3D come to mind.
Your options will be limited because the AWS band is fairly unpopular. Most manufacturers don't bother with it as it's used only on the less-popular networks of the U.S. and Canada - nowhere else.
After 10 years on ATT and 5 years on XDA ATT I made the jump to TMobile :crying:. With there official press release on Bootloaders and Samsung intent to take over more corporate land, I just don't see a future mod base with ATT. But I hope you guys don't get stuck with a safestrap only like the Droid X.
See you guys on the other side

I would be on Tmobile in a heartbeat but my work has a company plan with ATT and they pay for my service. So I'm kinda stuck with them. That doesn't prevent me from getting a Tmobile Note 3 though!
The development for the S4 is now pathetic. It only benefits those on May 2013 firmware (MDL). If the AT&T Note 3 is like the S4, the development will suck. We got lucky the first 3 months with the S4, then it just went down hill. There is still no custom recovery yet for the latest ATT update.
I'm tempted by T-Mobile too, trust me. But their higher bands mean worse coverage, especially indoors. AWS requires a lot of cell sites for proper performance. When I had T-Mobile, having 1 bar of 4G was a good day, it was then EDGE city. They are the only carrier without any lower spectrum.
Hopefully they don't suck by you.
My dad used T-Mobile for the last 2-3 years and recently switched over to AT&T...
On T-Mobile he was getting 2g, 3g sometimes, and half the time no service at all.
This is why I didn't make the switch, ****ty coverage, oh and the reason I didn't buy a T-Mobile note is because I would rather shell out $299 than over $800...

I get what yur saying but by that logic development for us early adopters should be good. Once they get this f/w figured out just dont upgrade. Naturally theres a possibility we may be stuck for a bit but even MF3 got set up with safestrap which is great for what it is. Some would say it re-enforces the argument of "if you wanna google phone get a nexus."

Don't blame you. I left the death star almost 18 months ago and wouldn't switch back for anything. Yeah, the ST sim I use, is on the at&t
tower, but it's CHEAPER by tons. Were I was paying 120+/month for unlimited voice "unlimited" data....I pay 50 bucks/month for the same
thing with ST. I was thinking of actually switching back to at&t's MVNO because of the N3's LTE (vs my current N1) but now that ST has
LTE, I'll just buy a t-mobile N3, and go that route.
I wouldn't switch carriers for a phone at all... T-Mobile has horrible service where I live and work. I'll rather keep paying $200+ for quality service rather than save and have to walk 5 blocks to get service.

I am very jealous of all of you guys who can leave AT&T and go to T-Mobile. I wish I could use T-Mobile, but when half my home town is covered in EDGE/GPRS I just can't use them. Knowing I'll never have their 4G at my house because of their frequencies don't reach that far doesn't exactly sit well either. Anyway, best of luck to you guys on T-Mobile. Enjoy your truly unlimited data.
@YellowGTO, sorry to hear that. I think that was a bit impulsive and there is no way Tmobile has better coverage then AT&T. The most I would be willing to do is buy the Tmobile N3. I did not even do that one. I got the AT&T Note 3 and we will see how my mileage goes.
I enjoy custom ROMs, kernels, and recoveries too. I spent most of the time with the Note II with Touchwiz ROMs and loved it. Root is probably the most pressing for me but I can do without it for while. This phone is a beast, I did not think it could get any better but I guess it can.

You're right actually. I have all 3 right now. ATT, Tmo and Vzw (Sprints not even a contender). And while ATTs LTE service is indeed the best. Tmo has pretty much had at least cell service in the same area.. Verizon is and Tmobile are much closer in terms of performance. They actually seem to have the same LTE areas unlike ATT who has LTE everywhere. What Tmobile has going for it is the wifi calls, this is truly a life saver if you do business in any sort of convention centers.
Im still testing and mapping service areas with Signal tracker, so its not concrete yet. If you can manage with 3G+/4G Tmobile is the way to go on the east coast. The service is considerably cheaper, single is decent, and bootloaders unlocked.
