Moving out of April, May should see its share of Android, as well. May 5th is given as the day we can expect the the 4G LTE LG Revolution , and the Motorola DROID BIONIC is loosely listed with a May release, as well. Also without certain dates but listed as launching in May (or later) are the Motorola Droid X 2 and, get this, the Samsung Galaxy S II. I don’t think we expected the US launch of the Galaxy S followup to come so soon, but Verizon is suggesting it might be so (unless they are simply suggesting the launch will come after May).

Does verizon runs also on 850/1900 ?

The international version will work with AT&T but keep in mind AT&T does not offer unlimited data or free tethering.

I am on a iphone unlimited plan with them right now. I just can't justify to drop that amount of money for a phone when the plans will cost me the same as getting a subsidized one from them.
Verizon is good in my area, but ATT is better, and the 3G is almost 3 times as fast as Verizon. I also hate the voice quality of Verizon, my area is too saturated with Verizon customers.

Of course if you are already grandfathered into AT&T's unlimited plan then you're fine. I would still be weary of tethering though because there have been recent news of AT&T cracking down on unauthorized tethering for those who don't pay for it.
Yay! Can't believe they fit 4G into such a thin phone, the other 4G phones are quite thick.
not happening.. there is no way that the phone wll be modified in such a short time after initial release to be a cdma version.. also we would have already seen it going through fcc approval if that was the case.
Edit - correct missed that

I'll let you know that I played with one on 3/19/2011 in a VZW store that was being held hostage by the Samsung rep. Yes, GS2 in VZW and it was the same form factor.

It says "Samsung Charge" 4/7/2011 right in the pic.
Hopefully this means that T-Mobile will see the SGS2 by late April. That would be the case since T-Mobile is GSM right?
Bing, bloat ware, contracts, delayed updates. Oh joy.
This won't launch in May. Doesn't make sense. Why would they release this less than a month after the Charge? Plus, each carrier will make their alterations, just like they did with the original GS line, and that will push a release well into the summer/fall

The Charge is not planning to be released as a flagship device so it is not competing with it. Also since they already have a roadmap out, that means they already have at least several samples for the network and are working on bugs and extra support to meet a deadline.
That roadmap is highly suspect... Many are skeptical of it's authenticity. And the Charge isn't a flagship device for Samsung, but it does have the Droid branding for Verizon, so it doesn't make sense that VZW would launch a superior device a month later. Just my .02

While I agree the authenticity is skeptical it is the only thing we have to go on thus far and we have no received word from Verizon or anyone else proving this false. Also my point was that it was not a flagship device for Verizon either.

Because FCC compliance isn't needed yet. They have no intention of selling it right now. Go look at how far out the Xoom was sent to the FCC. 2 weeks before release. Same thing with iPhones... Manufacturers hold FCC checks until the last possible moment to keep their devices as close to secret as possible. I expect FCC submission to happen about 2 weeks before release.
As for the LTE, the VZW rep was the one that said it had LTE, but I could not confirm it on the actual device as there was no data connection enabled in the software at all. Perhaps that's even more of a confirmation as we have all seen the ATT devices with functioning data connections.
So maybe they haven't gotten the LTE drivers ready for the LTE chipset in the phone??? Or maybe she just had a GSM device and turned off the data so when she went into VZW they wouldn't see "AT&T" on the screen??
Don't know, but I couldn't verify the rep's claims when I looked at the phone. I do know what was both said to me on 3/19 and now what was leaked to phandroid...and they both jive.

So if Verizon grabs our lovely S2 and refits it with a CDMA radio are we looking at the same BS Verizon produced with the Droid 2 Global where it's a """Global Phone""" but it won't work on any other network because Verzion is a criminal organization? Will Sprint/AT&T have the buying power to keep GSM based S2s in circulation? Living here in Canada it's frustrating to be technologically backwards, it's even more frustrating when a greedy corporation like Verizon locks the phone down in the US, eliminating it's availabilty in Canada and making it virtually impossible to get one down there unlocked for up here.....
--+
I suppose I could always order a phone from the international market but with it's market pull (considering it's the only phone that doesn't seem to have any compromise except for the 3 button versus 4 button push) it'll take forever to get one :/

Sprint in Talks to Buy T-Mobile: http://www.mobiledia.com/news/83611.html
If Sprint does purchase T-Mobile, it would merge the third and fourth-largest carriers into a single, unified company that serves more than 80 million customers -- 49.9 million from Sprint and 33.7 million from T-Mobile. That would allow it to be vastly more capable of competing with AT&T, which has 95.5 million subscribers, and Verizon, with 94.1 million.
In addition, T-Mobile could also use Sprint's cash, clout and partnership to fund its wireless spectrum needs and 4G rollout.
But the Sprint-T-Mobile tie-up would also be much more complicated. The two companies run incompatible cellular networks -- Sprint on CDMA and T-Mobile with GSM -- which could throw Sprint into a toxic situation similar to when it purchased Nextel, another incompatible network, in 2005.

1. iDEN network is being phased out in 2013, freeing up spectrum for Sprint's 3G/4G.
2. Switching to LTE is supposed to be 'easy' since it shares 70-80% of its DNA with Wimax. Sprint will make a decision on Wimax vs LTE in 6 months.
3. Sprint's Network Vision will consolidate its different network equipment/stations, making them take up less space and less cost to run.
4. T-Mobile is in dire need of spectrum, which Sprint/Clearwire has a lot of.
5. T-Mobile has not yet adopted a new 4G network (LTE) beyond its enhanced HSPA network marketed as '4G'.
It would be awesome to have a GSM/CDMA multi chip phone. LOL
Not a tech guy so I don't even know if that's possible.
But I think merging with T-Mobile would only open up the "dead" areas near me with coverage.

Here in PR, AT&T bought Centenial which was a CDMA carrier. All Centenial customers remained until their contracts were up and then they would have to switch over to AT&T (for now). AT&T started shutting CDMA towers down -which sucked because Sprint used them also, making our signal suck- and are in the process of migrating all CDMA accounts to GSM.
Also happened a few years ago with Verizon in the island. VZN sold its network to Claro and switched almost all their towers to GSM (but still use some CDMA towers for data I believe, not sure).
Personally, I would really like that, but it seems obscure, don't you think, I mean, come on a CDMA/GSM device, imagine how much it would cost, and also the monthly bill would probably go up to cover extra operating costs. Although, it may happen, just think about it

Nothing about a merger implies a CDMA/GSM device, in fact in the event of a merger things would stay pretty much the same for quite a while, it could be years till they make a decision on which path to follow then even longer to switch their antennae over.
If they did merge and keep both GSM and cdma im sure it is possible since the processors in Verizon's iPhone 4 is technically capable of doing both GSM and.cdma be we'll see

Yes, I would love better coverage and, more importantly, GSM/LTE phones without having to go to AT&FT.
On the other hand,
No, we need more competition here, not less, especially if the feds are caving on wireless net neutrality.
If they do merge would be pretty pointless for them to have took the time to make a CDMA Nexus S lol

No, there would never be a CDMA/GSM device, but there could be GSM/WiMax and CDMA/LTE devices.
If a phone has either GSM or LTE in it, that means you can use it anywhere in the world. GSM phones can be used now, LTE phones can be used in a couple years once other countries build out 4G.

If Sprint does get T-Mobile, would T-Mobile be renamed Sprint Spectrum since that's what it was originally?
Remember Sprint Spectrum, it was GSM, then Sprint spun it off, as a company called Voice Stream, to switch to CDMA.
Probably keep the Sprint brand. Takes you back to when Cingular bought at&t or AT&T, whatever capitalization they used.

If this merger goes anything like the AT&T/Cingular merger the combined new company is bound to lose a ton of subscribers. That merger was a clusterfudge and a half and is the reason I'm a Sprint customer now.

If I had a good chunck of money lying around I'd invest in Sprint as they have big plans for the future. Restating what someone above already said, AT&T aquiring T-Mobile is just going ot increase Sprint's number of subscribers, paired with their rumored and "unofficial confirmed?" lol if that makes sense - decision to move to LTE and finally topped with next weeks CTIA event where some REAL nice phones / tablets are expected to drop - Sprint is in for a subscriber boost. I'm on Sprint right now with my Epic 4G and had plans to possibly switch to t-mobile or At&t but now that At&t is buying Tmobile and will probably eliminate all Unlimited plans and sprint will get some actually nice phones that don't have a keyboard - I am definitely going to be sticking around! Oh and besides all that I just moved to West hills and now I have beautiful 4G coverage ALL through my house with 5 -7 Mbps down and 1 - 2 Mbps up So I'm one happy camper and its all about to get better when I upgrade the day Sprint releases their new phones to the public! Man waiting really pays off!

Sorry, I have to rant here for a minute...
1st, I had just bought a new phone on the AT&T blue side. When they wanted to migrate me to the "orange" billing system because I wanted to up my minutes they told me I'd have to buy another new phone and I wasn't eligible for an upgrade. I wound up unlocking my phone myself and using the orange sim in it anyway.
Also, at the time I had 3 phone lines in 2 different area codes. They told me the new billing system wouldn't let me do that and I had to change a phone number that I had with them for several years. I ended up having to split the one line off onto its own account which cost quite a bit more per month but had no choice at the time and was generally happy with my coverage and equipment otherwise.
I also regularly dialed international long distance @ 85 cents/minute which equated to several hundred dollars a month (over $700 one month) which I always paid on time and with a smile. Shortly after they migrated my account I had an emergency while traveling and desperately needed to dial international which I was no longer able to do. I called AT&T post haste and they told me "We're sorry, since you've been a customer less than 90 days we cannot permit you to dial internationally". I explained the situation that since migrating to the new billing system I had a new account number and provided my old account number for them to verify. They claimed there was nothing they could do and I could appeal to a manager which would take 7-10 business days. I wound up talking to a complete stranger about my situation who let me use his landline. We had no idea what it would cost him to dial international from his line, so I gave him $50 which he refused but I insisted he take it. I moved carriers within days of that ordeal.
Thats just no way to treat an 8 year loyal, multi-line, international dialing customer dealing with a life and death situation. Money was never the issue, terrible customer relations was. Thats why I want to wish all those poor TMO users good luck - I hope they don't have the same experience.

EDIT: LOL It went down 16% today.
According to a very well known site to me www.tmonews.com, the site states that At&t and T-Mobile agreed to join forces and will soon be working together. So what does this mean for us streak users? Feel free to post your thoughts and opinions in this thread.
hate it
this made me feel sick in the stomach, when i first read it at dslreports, this is not good for competion or pricing.

It going to suck for t-moble. There was an article saying that t-monble hads the best customer service an att was the worst.

I can somewhat relate. I was with tmo for the past 7 years and I made the switch to at&t only a month ago because I wanted the streak. I agree that tmo had amazing customer support and their plans were pretty good as well, and to see both company's joining forces is not a bad thing in my eyes. I only hope that at&t will take in some of t-mobiles plans and offer it to us. To have the ability of 5GB data cap wouldn't be that bad and to not have to pay $10 bucks for an extra gig would be even better.
This is bad. It will allow carriers to do horrible things to their customers like no unlimited data. BAD BAD BAD.
I personally have been trying to convince the wife to change to AT&T or Verizon so welcome this change.
I'm tired of having to get unlocked AT&T phones due to T-Mobiles crap phone selections.

It's good IMO. T-Mobile wanted to be bought, it was going to happen eventually. Instead of being purchased by Sprint and having to be converted to CDMA, they'll be purchased by ATT and will insist in increasing network density for 3G and LTE.
It does leave a possible void in the discount arena, but Sprint and MetroPCS can fill that. T-Mobile lost 400K subscribers last quarter, something had to happen.
I wouldn't mind seeing Sprint gobble up Metro (like techs in cdma) and giving us 3 solid choices. Having spotty service carriers like T-Mobile helps no one.
I did read that in the short term ATT and TMobile towers would go dual mode so each group of customers would get better service. So, right from the start that's a positive.
I'm going to be mad if ATT treats this as anything more then a means to resolve there density issues.
Do not like. I am on att because its way cheaper to pay my parents to be on their plan than to have my own. I figured once I start making more money I would switch to tmobile because they have good phones and impose less carrier restrictions. Now they are joining att who (would like) to rule their plans like tyrants. Now I dont know what I'm going to do.
That's a shame....Springfield Missouri had a HUGE T-Mobile customer support center open up a couple years ago. Must be 2-300 people working there.
You can bet the death star will can that, and off shore it somewhere else.
Also, bad for t-mobile users, and wireless users in general, because, you can
bet Verizon will be right up to gobble up Sprint (t-mobile +at&t +gsm...Verizon + sprint + cdma). Then there will only be two wireless providers in the USA.
Of course, we all know, that they won't get together to screw the end users LOL.
It's funny, we (USA) spent a lot of money in an anti-trust case in the early 80's
to break up "ma-bell", because they were a monopoly, and some 30 years later, they have just about put themselves back together again.
I surely have a bad feeling about this..
I am a TMo user and been there with them since the day i came to US(Almost 8+ years).
Even though I can only use Streak with EDGE speed with TMo, I am okay with it.
But once the network merge is complete, would that mean that with TMo simcard in Streak, I now will have 3G speed?
I wonder!
this is actually a good thing. att said this pushes their network 5 years in development, and they will have 60mbit 4g lte coverage to 95% of americans. users on both networks will have access to all 3g gsm bands. and with the new capacity load capabilities, att can lower their prices to compete more with verizon. i actually do see verizon buying sprint too.
i was thinking of was actually thinking of selling my streak and buying a samsung infuse 4g. its a faster phone with an almost as large but higher quality screen and better cameras and is a "4g" phone but its hspa+ not lte and with this announcement, im going to wait till later this year when the lte phones come out.
For me it's a GOOD THING!
I'm 99% about THE PHONES. If this merger opens up the TMOus 3G/4G bands to ATT users, then the more progressive/higher end TMO european phones would become available here sooner. That's a great thing imo.
hmm
i think people need to look at this from a business point of view . If At&T does end up buying Tmobile this will be bad for the customer, because that is one less company At&T has to fight a price war with and being that att and Tmobile are the only GSM networks out there that makes them the only player in the GSM arena .
everyone needs to remember the more options out there the better that will keep each company in check and fight for every customer out there with better prices and plans .
some will say will it will make my signal better and make the network faster and make things happen alot faster as far as 4g becoming the stranded thing . i for one dont care about speed if i am going to end up paying like crazy for KB's of data att is starting to nickel and dime the customer and this is coming from an att customer

AT&T has several call centers around the bay area so I doubt they will go over seas. It would be unfortunate for the Springfield employees to lose their jobs so hopefully AT&T will just bring them on board. There is no way they could handle that many additional accounts without adding employees.
That said, being a call center person myself job stability is never guaranteed when dealing with tech products. It comes with the territory.

2G of full speed data on this new "unlimited" plan???? Excuse me?, it says unlimited not 2G, so what happens after we exceed the 2G? Notice tmo didn't say they were slowing the speeds after 2G they clearly stated in their advertisement 2G of full speed data, it doesn't get more clear than that SMFH
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
For those of yu who can't see the letters stating 2G of full data save the pic and zoom in the ad in the center
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
Here is a better screenshot clear enough to see their "truly unlimited" data plan LOL
Tmobile is a joke nowadays, this is months before this aquisition takes place just imagine after the aquisition happens how ****ty tmobile is gonna get, same happen to cingular, at&t bought it and that was it for that company
This isn't capped data, it's just throttled. Sprint does it too, only difference is Tmobile tells you that they do it. While I agree, it's still crap what they're doing but it's no where near as bad as a 2 gb cap. Plus, from what I've read up on it the FCC might not approve the merger.

Dude I hope so, cuz at&t will only worsen tmo, but either way remember they first had the 5gb data cap not that long ago, and now its 2gb? What happen there do yu think its fair?, not even 5GB is fair because when I signed up with them I didn't have this 5GB cap and they didn't tell me about it when signing the contract, now I just got my first text message last month saying I exceeded my 5GB data and my speeds were slowed to .05 mbps, so they change my plan "unlimited" plan from an uncap to a cap data plan, let me guess what's next.... charging for exceeding data after your 2GB just like at&t lol, watch them do that later on, I thinks that's agaisnt the policy and I believe i can cancel my account at no fee anytime now due to the changes they've done to my plan.

How much do they cap? Rate wise.
On another note, I still see TMobile commericals on TV telling you how much ATT sucks. I just think thats funny.

Also I did research on FCC stand on this acquisition, and so far I'm 99.9% sure it won't get approve, for following reasons
"A merger between AT&T and T-Mobile, however, does not seem likely to benefit mobile users. It looks sure to reduce competition, take away an innovative, lower-cost alternative, and inch the wireless carrier market closer to duopoly.
If you live in a sufficiently dense neighborhood in the United States, you do have a choice of carriers. Indeed, in 18 of the top 20 markets—home to a "large majority" of Americans—you probably have your pick of at least five. There are the big four: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile. After that, there are scads of smaller competitors, like Leap, TrackFone, Cricket, MetroPCS, and Qwest. But the four big companies essentially control the market, even if AT&T says "intense competition [is] increasing with new entrants." Currently, Verizon has about 101 million subscribers, while AT&T has 96 million, Sprint Nextel 48 million, and T-Mobile 36 million. All of the other players have less than 10 percent of market share combined. That's not enough to threaten the big guys."
This is FCC POV on this retarded acquisition. And I of course share their point of view, because it simply makes no sense, now with that being sad by FCC I really doubt this acquisition would go anywhere and tmo would be better off with the 3 billion AT&T will be force to pay after for break up fee @ least tmo will benefit from this retarded decision at&t made, and I'm really glad they have to pay 3 billion$ fine to tmo if this doesn't go thru, they should've analyse and THINK before carrying out such an absurd decision

The merger is not going to happen. It will be blocked why are you guys freaking out about this. Stop worrying about it so much. The likely hood of this merger going through is 0%-0.1%. So stop *****ing and moaning and complaining about how ****ty at&t is and how ****ty t-mobile will become if the merger happens, because this will never happen!!

where are you guys getting these percentages and stuff from?
do you really think ATT would risk $3B and not know anything, but some dudes on xda have it all figured out better than the top execs on ATT on how the FCC functions.
Because our govt has proven it can be trusted and is only about doing what's right?
I wouldn't be so sure this won't happen.

people are worked up cause they know what they have in tmobile. they also see what they could have if the deal happens with att. hence all the complaining. also if tmobile and att didnt think the deal would go through why why att be so willing to let 3 billion walk out the door?
listen i hope that the deal doesnt happen but thats a lot of money for att to gamble on...

At&t doesn't decide if the merge happens or not, so those of yu sayin that at&t won't lose 3Billion$ its not up to them they made a bad choice, **** happens this merge will have more negative impacts than positive as FCC stated.

I pulled the percentages out of my ass for an example. Yes I do think that at&t would do something stupid like that and risk 3 billion. I mean come on smart guy we are talking about at&t. I don't really care what you think, but IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. There are no benefits for any customers or anybody else for that matter except for at&t. Like I said IT"S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
Speaking of Skynet..... AT&T just might risk 3bill, they are the T1000 of the corporate world. Isnt this the 3rd time they have re-assembled into Ma-Bell? They would do anything to consume even more.

true...but even for the mighty att empire 3 billion is a lot to lose on a deal.
After 10 years on ATT and 5 years on XDA ATT I made the jump to TMobile :crying:. With there official press release on Bootloaders and Samsung intent to take over more corporate land, I just don't see a future mod base with ATT. But I hope you guys don't get stuck with a safestrap only like the Droid X.
See you guys on the other side
A lot of us, like myself are staying with att but using a T Mo phone instead. I can understand leaving though. I would to if they had better coverage.

I would be on Tmobile in a heartbeat but my work has a company plan with ATT and they pay for my service. So I'm kinda stuck with them. That doesn't prevent me from getting a Tmobile Note 3 though!
The development for the S4 is now pathetic. It only benefits those on May 2013 firmware (MDL). If the AT&T Note 3 is like the S4, the development will suck. We got lucky the first 3 months with the S4, then it just went down hill. There is still no custom recovery yet for the latest ATT update.
I'm tempted by T-Mobile too, trust me. But their higher bands mean worse coverage, especially indoors. AWS requires a lot of cell sites for proper performance. When I had T-Mobile, having 1 bar of 4G was a good day, it was then EDGE city. They are the only carrier without any lower spectrum.
Hopefully they don't suck by you.
My dad used T-Mobile for the last 2-3 years and recently switched over to AT&T...
On T-Mobile he was getting 2g, 3g sometimes, and half the time no service at all.
This is why I didn't make the switch, ****ty coverage, oh and the reason I didn't buy a T-Mobile note is because I would rather shell out $299 than over $800...

I get what yur saying but by that logic development for us early adopters should be good. Once they get this f/w figured out just dont upgrade. Naturally theres a possibility we may be stuck for a bit but even MF3 got set up with safestrap which is great for what it is. Some would say it re-enforces the argument of "if you wanna google phone get a nexus."

See my response here and why I am switching to a T-Mo device..but the future for Carrier supplied devices is pretty bleak, we would forced to go to the developer edition route (aka full price) for any customization options..

I get what yur saying and do agree for the most part. My personal plan is to ride this out till tax time when if things havent changed and i have some throw around money cut my loss and get a device full price. I guess the ideologist in me doesnt wanna "jump ship" just yet haha yknow? Still wanna believe in our devs. Like i said though i do agree with yur thoughts on it.

I tried to switch once about 5 months ago to T-Mobile. Service was absolute garbage.
ya i think it would be good to just get t mobile one and run on att or just get the full price developer one. i had tmobile for about a year, but much better signal with att .what is the full unlock developer model number? i seen some on ebay but wasnt sure on which one is right for usa ? thanks for any help on this .sorry not to take away from this thread
Don't blame you. I left the death star almost 18 months ago and wouldn't switch back for anything. Yeah, the ST sim I use, is on the at&t
tower, but it's CHEAPER by tons. Were I was paying 120+/month for unlimited voice "unlimited" data....I pay 50 bucks/month for the same
thing with ST. I was thinking of actually switching back to at&t's MVNO because of the N3's LTE (vs my current N1) but now that ST has
LTE, I'll just buy a t-mobile N3, and go that route.
I wouldn't switch carriers for a phone at all... T-Mobile has horrible service where I live and work. I'll rather keep paying $200+ for quality service rather than save and have to walk 5 blocks to get service.

I am very jealous of all of you guys who can leave AT&T and go to T-Mobile. I wish I could use T-Mobile, but when half my home town is covered in EDGE/GPRS I just can't use them. Knowing I'll never have their 4G at my house because of their frequencies don't reach that far doesn't exactly sit well either. Anyway, best of luck to you guys on T-Mobile. Enjoy your truly unlimited data.
@YellowGTO, sorry to hear that. I think that was a bit impulsive and there is no way Tmobile has better coverage then AT&T. The most I would be willing to do is buy the Tmobile N3. I did not even do that one. I got the AT&T Note 3 and we will see how my mileage goes.
I enjoy custom ROMs, kernels, and recoveries too. I spent most of the time with the Note II with Touchwiz ROMs and loved it. Root is probably the most pressing for me but I can do without it for while. This phone is a beast, I did not think it could get any better but I guess it can.

You're right actually. I have all 3 right now. ATT, Tmo and Vzw (Sprints not even a contender). And while ATTs LTE service is indeed the best. Tmo has pretty much had at least cell service in the same area.. Verizon is and Tmobile are much closer in terms of performance. They actually seem to have the same LTE areas unlike ATT who has LTE everywhere. What Tmobile has going for it is the wifi calls, this is truly a life saver if you do business in any sort of convention centers.
Im still testing and mapping service areas with Signal tracker, so its not concrete yet. If you can manage with 3G+/4G Tmobile is the way to go on the east coast. The service is considerably cheaper, single is decent, and bootloaders unlocked.

P.S. That WiFi calling gives me AMAZING battery. I will update with graphs at the end of the experiment.
T-Mobile sucks in my area. There's no way that I could switch back to them. Sure, it'd be cheaper. But I hate search for signals. They are better than Sprint, but I'm not a fan of spotty.

Wow, it must be nice to have funds to blow:laugh:. I heard about wifi calling and I think that would be the next big thing. We have root now on the AT&T Note 3 so I have reason to venture else where in the near future. Let me know what you have uncovered during your research on this.

Yeah with the 5 lines, I figured it would be worth a month or two to see if the move is worth it. 5 lines on ATT is about 360 and tmo is about 210. I figured it was worth the investigation.
