restore issue evo shift - EVO Shift 4G General

Hey I was running my stock sense rom with the x99 kernel. All was running well. I then looked in my rom manger and tried to install the newest sparks co. Rom. I wiped data/cache and it "restoring system". So I installed this cynogyn zip from my sd. That is the only way I can use my phone. Any help i would be greatful

Go back to your stock ROM via recovery. Wipe and reflash. Don't use ROM manager to flash ROM's.

Problems Installing Kernels and ROMs!!

I am Rooted under Unrevoked 3.21, I have flashed a custom image and done a nandroid backup. I am trying to install natarchy 4.1.8 Kernel using no custom ROM for now. I have tried through ROM Manager and everytime I go into recovery and wipe the partion and data then install .zip from sd card it just leaves me hanging on the White Screen with HTC EVO4g forever with nothing happening so I just remove the battery. Any suggestions or help please, looking to run this Kernel and Damage Control 3.5 for now. Thanks in advance.

ROM flashing problems with my EVO :(

Ok so I originally rooted my phone and put Fresh ROM on it, there was a little hiccup in the install but I didnt really think much of it, recently when I tried to flash a new ROM (I tried multiple ones just to be sure it wasn't the rom) but whenever I try to flash the ROM (using clockworkmod from recovery mode) it will say the install was successful but when I reboot it will do one of two things: stay on the "HTC EVO 4G" startup screen or continue to turn off and on like its in a bootloop. Does anyone have any ideas whats happening and what I should do? I have tried clearing/wiping all of the options that are available in clockworkmod and even tried using a new SD Card but it still does the same thing

Hi there. First off, I need a little more info, like which rom you are trying to flash right now. Also, what radio's and pri do you currently have?(menu>settings>about phone>software info, radio is baseband) If you have the older radio and PRI, (same as the ones in my sig), and you are flashing to a 3.70 software ROM, which most likely you are, you will need to either flash a custom kernel, while in recovery, just after flashing the rom (before you boot). Or upgrade your radios. If you have already updated your radios, and you're still experiencing this, I would first and foremost, switch to Amon Ra recovery (which version of clockwork are you on, btw?). The easiest way to switch to Amon Ra, is to get Rom Manager from the market. Use rom manager to "flash clockworkmod reocovery" (even though you already have clockwork, do this) Then scroll down, and you'll see "flash alternate recovery". Select that, and let it flash Amon Ra for you. Shut the phone down, and manually boot into recovery (vol down+power). Use amon's recovery to do a full wipe, (data, cache, davlik cache x3) Then flash calkulin's format all.zip. That will ensure a good wipe. Then follow my above mentioned instructions, and try again. That should work. If it doesn't, report what the exact errors are here. Good luck
Maybe this is a stupid question, but are you able to nand restore to a rom where your phone will actually boot up?
Calkulin format all zip is your best bet. It will wipe your system data, data, cache and dalvik cache. A full purge.
Just have a good zip like chris sprint lovers rom. And better yet a PC36100.zip from chris all in one update thread.
Sent by my eVo running Vin255764 Plutonium...yup
Here's a few suggestion:
Change your radio version - Some kernels don't work right with the newest, and some don't work right with older ones.
Change your kernel - This is always the best suggestion IMO. For a sense based ROM run one of netarchy's latest kernels. Often a bootloop is because of a kernel/radio issue.
Plus with netarchy and setcpu you'll get some wicked battery life.
Try wiping everything, and then try again. Also try flashing a different rom
having issues flashing myn rom
have 3.7 evo rooted unrevoked3/kernel 15
when i try to flash from clockwork mod it just blinks right quick but doesn't do anything.. all the things are up to date .. can anyone help?
when i flashed amon ra and flashed rom.. it says E: can't find update script..
i dl rom manager and did the alt recovery to amon ra. it still won't flash the rom.. but now i have another problem.. my sd card clockwork back up is not there... and now i can't restore to previous state. i can't get to the regular phone interface. what can i do to restore?

There's your problem.
ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5 is for Gingerbread-based (Android 2.3) ROMs. Evil 4G is a Froyo-based (Android 2.2) ROM. These different versions of Android use incompatible filesystems.
How to recover:
1. Download CyanogenMod 7, a Gingerbread-based ROM, to your PC. Choose the newest release candidate (RC2) or the most recently Nightly build.
2. Boot into CWM Recovery, select "mounts and storage" and make your SD card mountable via USB.
3. Copy the CM7 .zip file to your SD card.
4. Install the .zip after a full wipe / factory reset
5. If you want to stay with CM7, also download the Google Applications (Gapps) .zip to your PC, copy to your SD card and and install it after you complete the install of CM7.
6. Boot CM7.
7. If you want to install Evil 4G, run Rom Manager and have it flash CWM Recovery 2.5.1.2, then reboot into Recovery, full wipe / factory reset, and install Evil as previously planned.
Thanks Ill get on it....
So could I just get CM7 on there then get an older version of clockwork to use the backup I made for the Mytouch rom I had before?
Or is the backup I made pretty much lost because Im using Clockwork V3?

Your backup was made with an incompatible version of CWM Recovery. It may not be usable. That said, some people have reported in the some of the many many threads on this subject that they have been able to restore a Froyo backup made with V3, while running V2. Your results might match theirs. The steps I show above let you stop at CM7 or continue on to Evil 4G, and do not include restoring your Stock ROM.

this gets you running with the 2 versions of recovery, one for froyo, one for gingerbread. whichever backup you want to restore, just use the matching recovery so your old backup is fine
I neglected to mention CWMR 3.0.0.6, that camrs73 just posted about, with a link to its main thread. This is a custom version of CWM Recovery built by option94 that supports both Froyo and Gingerbread filesystems. In order to install it, you need to have a functioning Android system first. You can install it =after= you get CM7 or Evil 4G up and running.
Ok thank God lol
Thanks for the Input guys Ill flash CM7 then download that Clock work and let you know how it went.
* Update im running Cm7 and getting CW installed.

From here if you install 3.0.0.6 Clockwork recovery image (link in my signature) you can flash between 2.2 and 2.3 ROMS w/o any problems.
Yes!!! Im saved!!!
Thanks jggimi ,camrs73 and of coarse neidlinger for your clockwork mod!!
One more question...can I have more than one backup saved on Clockwork?
you can have as many as storage space allows and flash whichever one you feel like at the time (with the appropriate recovery of course)

urgent! stuck on splash!

hey all,
so i am incredibly new to this scene and just recieved my s4. i was preparing to flash a ROM onto my phone, and got it rooted and installed CWM.
I forgot to download the actual ROM zip file, and went into CWM via goo manager, wiped factory/data and cache. It was only AFTER i wiped everything that i realised i didnt download the ROM zip file, so i rebooted the phone and now it is stuck on the start-up splash screen where it displays "Samsung galaxy S4 GT-I9505" and will not continue :crying:
I was running on stock, and had only rooted the phone.
PLEASE i urgently need to fix this ASAP. Help!
Hi,
is there a Odin Version of the Rom you tried to flash? If yes, you could simply bring your device to download-mode and flash the Rom with Odin.
Alternatively search for a odin flashable Recovery and flash this first. Then you could boot to recovery and flash the zip of the Rom.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
i tried installing the liquid smooth rom, and from what i can see there is no odin version of the rom :\
Are you able to direct me to an Odin flashable recovery I can use?
im really stressing out about this
i'm in the process of downloading a stock firmware and will try to flash it on, but it's taking forever to download
I don't see why you can't boot again if you have only wiped the user data and cache, just press the home button for 10 seconds and see if it restarts with your reset stock firmware. Otherwise you can reboot into recovery and do the wipes again (not the option to install a new ROM), or put the ROM zip you want to flash on an SD card and then flash from the SD.
I hope this helps.

You should of made a backup with CWM. That's what it's used for also, besides flashing .zips. Always make a backup that you can restore and keep an extra copy on ur computer and/or a usb drive.
You have to use Odin to flash a stock firmware from Sammobile website. Make sure you download the correct firmware for your phone.
Dont worry, your phone isn't brick.
when i first did the wipe, i chose the option that i was going to install a new ROM. I'm now assuming that's where i made a mistake.
I did make a backup before i wiped everything onto my SD card, but now i can't even access that backup because it's saying there's nothing.
I've tried flashing a ROM onto it, but it says aborted.
Yes SORF ist right. It should boot into resetted stock firmware.
First try to copy the Rom to SD and then boot to recovery an try flashing it.
If booting to recovery doesn't work (but it should work if you just wiped user data and cache) you should try flashing new recovery with odin.
You could use Philz recovery for GT-I9505 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
Installation Instructions for installation with odin you find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39433857&postcount=4

Thanks, that's what I'm doing right now, but the file is about 1.8GB and taking so long to download...
i wish there was a faster server, but this is the only option i could find :\
Have you tried to boot into recovery again and then flash your already downloaded rom from sd? So you don't have to download a complete sammy rom.

yes i have tried that, and it says that install aborts.
Also when i re-wipe everything and then try to reboot, it says my device is missing root.
When i try to re-root, and the device reboots, it gets stuck on the intro screen again so the root doesn't actually complete installing
have you fixed it yet?
so im going to try a different ROM other than the liquid smoothe one i wanted (since it keeps saying aborted)
question: does it matter if i use ANY s4 ROM regardless of carrier? I'm from Australia and there is no specific carrier for my phone on xda
Why does it fails to install? Are there any more error messages?
Also you can try the point "Fix Permissions" under Advanced Options. This could help.

try something lite like miui - it will save you time on download and is a good solid base to work from. dont flash the lite gapps without a reboot.
for a solid Sami based rom then i suggest using GoldenEye.

ok so i went ahead and found the cyanogenmod one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317040
and installed this and it works
though i dont like the look of this ROM lol, i prefer something a little more stock looking.
Any recommendations?
When reflashing a new ROM, what is the process i need to follow?
Cyanogenmod is themeable. So you could search for a stock like theme and install that.
If you like an overall more stock rom try scottyf79's recommendation.
If you want to flash a complete new Rom first copy zip onto sd, then boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, then falsh zip file.
Try the Omega Roms. They are close to stock.
Closest to stock are the prerooted DJembey ROMs (the CWM ones) or the Wanam Lite ROM (it's what I am on now)

personally -
i use Philz recovery
before install of a new rom - i use the "new rom" wipe option rather than the normal data, cache and dalvik wipe (it does this but adds in some extra steps)
then flash the rom of choice
if you get any other messages before reboot - select no
like i said before, if you want a stock looking Sami rom then try Golden Eye.

[Q] CWM Boot Loop

Hi,
I installed CWM v6.0.5.3 from the CM11 thread here onto my rooted stock rom so that I could do a nandroid backup.
It installed OK and I did the backup but now it always boots into CWM!
When I select "reboot system now" it also complains that "root access it missing". Selecting yes to root device doesn't get rid of this message on subsequent boots.
I can still get into download mode and I can use Odin to re--flash stock rom which enables me to boot correctly, but then I've lost all my data. Ironically I only installed CWM to do a backup and I don't have any other backup!
I can see other threads with similar problems but they're on other devices and the fix.zip's don't work on the Y.
I'd appreciate any help.
Regards,
Paul.
Some more info...
Even after flashing the stock ROM and re-installing CWM 6.0.5.3 I get the same issue.
I've tried using a temporary CWM v5 but this is unable to restore the backup.
Thanks...
Just thinking out loud now...
Is there a way to manually restore data.yaffs2.img from the backup without installing CWM 6.0.5.3?
It's not a problem. On flashing CWM 6.0.5.3 it converts the system to MTD from RFS which prevents it from booting due to lack of compatible ROM. CWM 6.0.5.3 can't be used with any GB or ICS ROM. It needs KK and for that you have to flash CM 11. Hope this helps.

You didn't install cwm6 - you flashed a kernel only meant for cm11 that has cwm6 built in - this kernel will not work on stock roms
Simply mount system then flash a stock based kernel like hells fusion #50
In future use cwm5 to make backups of stock roms - hells fusion kernel has it built in
Ah, and I thought I was being clever by going for the latest version!
I'll try flashing that kernel and let you know...
Hi,
From CWM 6.0.5.3 I mounted /system and installed hells fusion #50, but the phone still boots into CWM 6.0.5.3.
I tried also installing the stock kernel from the aroma installer, but still ended up in CWM 6.0.5.3.

Paul

Maybe its a build.prop issue with the zip and not flashing it
Try flashing a stock kernel via odin like the following (place in pda)
http://d-h.st/18f
If not you will have to flash an entire stock rom firmware via odin
I tried flashing that kernel with Odin, but when I boot I just get stuck on the Samsung logo.
Thanks for your help and time, but it looks like the backup I took with v6 isn't of any use, and I'll have to start again from fresh.
But I might run with Hell's Fusion as that looks good!
The reason I started all this was because the phone keeps messing up whilst in a call e.g. putting the call on hold, or speaker. I've tested the proximity sensor and thats OK, so I was going to try a custom ROM to see if that cured the problem.

If you can get into recovery now it should be cwm5
You can try flashing hells fusion now and see if it boots - if not flash stock rom via odin
Where i can see the hell fusion #50
