[Q] Is there a way to track which applications are using data? - HD2 General

I have an HD2 running CM7 Nightly Desire and use it with the tmobile web2go internet, but I don't want to rock the boat on it too much since it's a $10 unlimited plan for which the phone is technically ineligible. I logged into my account a noticed a new message saying my data was about to be throttled(still haven't noticed any throttling) and it caused me to look at my data usage. Somehow I've gone from my normal .5-.75 GB to 3.9 in 2 days. I must have downloaded something which it using massive amounts of data at 2 and 3 AM(ranges in size from 175 mb to 900 mb). I'd really like to know which application is doing it so I make sure never to download it again. The following apps had no reviews stating they use weird amounts of data but have been download since the 25th(you may notice a trend, lol):
Updated Go Launcher EX
Workout Trainer
Podrunner Workout Music
Virtual Gym Fitness Home and Gym
Spartacus Workout(Beta)
Allrecipes.com dinner spinner
Bloo Kid
I wonder if one of these is the culprit or if it could be something else. I'll probably just install a new ROM when I get home and start again from scratch, but it would be nice to know which application is suddenly using data in the middle of the night. I suppose it could also be a glitch in tmobile's servers.
I won't worry too much about it since it's about a week to the end of the billing cycle and it's not like it's costing me money and I'm still getting 3G speeds and I do nothing secure on the phone like log in to secure email, banking, or buying so I don't particularly care if it's sending lots of personal data somewhere. If the social networking accounts got hacked, then that's life.
ETA: I am such an idiot, I didn't know there are apps for that until it occured to me that there must be. I d/l'ed trafficinfo from the market and it lookat past data usage and I found the culprit. It's Google Books. I went on the tablet and asked it to make the books available offline on my Acer Iconia and I guess it downloaded them to both devices. That's 2.6 GB of data right there. Hmmm, it's weird. I didn't think of it because the books aren't supposed to be compatible with anything but a tablet according to the Google Books website(mostly really old books and magazines which are scans, but they allow me to open the books on my phone as well.
ETA again: Nope it must not have been the Books because I've not got 5.7 GB of usage: Here is what tmobile is saying seriously. Does anyone know it tmobile's counter can be inaccurate?

Developers.. Little Snitch for Android?

After reading a few different articles on malicious apps in the market, it occured to me.
What about a developer (wish I could do it ) creating an app that operates similar to Little Snitch. For those that don't use a Mac, it's essentially a software firewall. You can set rules and permissions, and it informs you when an app is trying to go out.

It's a fantastic program on the mac. So what about something similar for the Android? Lets hear your thoughts. Wish I had the ability to code, but just don't know development at all.. but if there are any on here that want to partner up, hit me up!
What about Droid Wall?
I use that to limit which apps have access to the internet.
Didnt know about this one. Downloading now!
Droid wall lacks real time access to top dump log. So it's not that intuitive as Little Snitch.

Sorry for my TYPO I meant TCPDUMP
I'd imagine you'd want to ask the little snitch people or start learning to code in Java or something. But really good idea. I love Little Snitch. It's a bit annoying sometimes but I'd rather shoulder the burden of inconvenience then to be willfully blind about the MASSIVE amount of data being leached by every other app service and process on my system.
It would be bad ass to be able to deny apps to sending special data OTA.

[Q] How to sideload EA's Dead Space?

I purchased Dead Space for my HTC Evo awhile back but never played it and I just picked up a Kindle Fire yesterday. I was reading about sideloading which I've done with several of my apps from my EVO to my Kindle but when I try Dead Space and launch it it downloads a big file then says its not licences for this device. Am I missing something on to get this to work or will it not and I would just have to buy it again for my kindle from the amazon store if i wanted it. I'm not really wanting to root this device as I like it pretty much as it is.
Tryed this myself, never was able to get it too work. I think there is a version for the kindle fire and you need that version. It was only 99 cents I believe.

You could possibly find the apk online. Install that, then find all the extra files needed and put those in the ea folder. If you let the program ( deadspace) download those files itself, its going to know you sideloaded and never paid.

Yotaphone 1 Question

Hello everyone,
i bought the yotaphone1 but i would know that the device have NFC function?
Coz i researched many website have another solution which i cant find it on my phone...
Can yr help me....
Cheer
Hi Leo. I am a Yotaphone user too. It seems that there is no NFC in Yotaphone 1. Also I would like to make a small request. Could you please extract a system app of yotaphone for me? It's called Back Screen Manager. I was tinkering with my phone and accidentally uninstalled it. Unfortunately I did not make a back up file. So now the back screen has stopped working. I hope you know how to go about it.

In case you don't know how, the process is really simple. Install 'apk extractor' from play store. It's small in size and should take you less than a minute. Open the app and go to system apps tab. You should be able to see all the preinstalled apps on your phone. Look for 'back screen manager'. Make sure it's not 'back screen settings', the two look a bit similar. Then tap the three dots near the name. Tap "share via" then send the app to my email address [email protected] or you can post a link here.

[Q] Making a list.

What do you think of making a list of games and apps for Cardboard that do not require gyroscope? Many devices these days lack gyro.
It's hard for people to bother with such lists when the developers themselves don't bother telling you if their app requires certain methods for tracking and not others.
If it is ok for you to use a mouse(or a bluetooth VR controller in mouse mode (press "Fn + D")), then NOMone VR Browser will enable you to enjoy all HTML5 games online in VR . The browser is perfectly usable without Gyro if you connect a mouse and a keyboard (Y).
Kindly check this thread for more details:

Second Camera "profile" using a different directory and sync settings

I would like to start a foto project and would like to store those photos separately.
I don't want to use another camera app, because stock works best for me.
Would it be possible to have a "switch" to store pictures in a different directory than usual and them not appear in google fotos and syncing to another google account if possible.
I tried setting up a second user on the phone, but it didn't make a trick, because all pictures were still shared and visible in camera app and google fotos.
Maybe hiding moving pictures in hindsight would be a solution, but I don't want much overhead and they should still be backed up
probably will just "archive" the pics inside google fotos, seems like a solution

For the similar thing I setup "Work" profile and use the same apps in both profiles with different google accounts.
All you need to do is install app to setup work profile and clone the needed apps.
How would you do this? I had a work profile installed, but my former employer used some enterprice soft for this

Use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.island
Please be aware that you cannot use two work profiles.
Why not just turn off data/wifi temporarily when capturing pics. Then move them to new folder outside DCIM/Camera?

Yes All data (including pics) will be stored in different space and will not be available in Mainland.
