Developers.. Little Snitch for Android? - Android Software Development

After reading a few different articles on malicious apps in the market, it occured to me.
What about a developer (wish I could do it ) creating an app that operates similar to Little Snitch. For those that don't use a Mac, it's essentially a software firewall. You can set rules and permissions, and it informs you when an app is trying to go out.
http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html
It's a fantastic program on the mac. So what about something similar for the Android? Lets hear your thoughts. Wish I had the ability to code, but just don't know development at all.. but if there are any on here that want to partner up, hit me up!

What about Droid Wall?
I use that to limit which apps have access to the internet.

Didnt know about this one. Downloading now!

Droid wall lacks real time access to top dump log. So it's not that intuitive as Little Snitch.

Sorry for my TYPO I meant TCPDUMP

I'd imagine you'd want to ask the little snitch people or start learning to code in Java or something. But really good idea. I love Little Snitch. It's a bit annoying sometimes but I'd rather shoulder the burden of inconvenience then to be willfully blind about the MASSIVE amount of data being leached by every other app service and process on my system.
It would be bad ass to be able to deny apps to sending special data OTA.

Assistance with final year college project

Hi all!
I'm in my final year and we're supposed to do a project which is worth 200 marks overall. Most of us in our field have chosen to develop either android or iphone applications. My group and I have chosen adnroid.
Now, I'm in need of simple ideas for the apps. We have absolutely no idea on how to go about with the process. I've seen lots of people here develop stunning applications here! We're in need of ideas for developing simple apps.. which can be completed in a max of 2-3 months (considering the fact that we don't have any background knowledge on android development/programming. All we know is Java)
I'd initially suggested an automatic mobile credit recharge system, where in the app monitors you prepaid account balance from time to time and recharges the account once the credit falls below a user set value.
Although this seemed interesting at first, it can only be simulated with 2 databases (one for the mobile credit and another for the bank account)
After going through the type of apps here, I really want to develop something much better than this.
I'm open to all ideas, in fact, we don't mind developing an app that is already existing (for instance a profile manager or a data wallet etc) All we want is to have a fully complete app at the end of 2 months.
Please assist.
Thanks!
Secret Santa?
That's something that I thought up over winter break and whipped it up over a few days in the App Inventor. If you guys take your time, you can probably learn Android programming and design/code it in a month or so.
There are some "special" features that I added to make the app more useful but I'll leave that for you to think up.
I'll post back if I come up with anything else. I also need some app ideas, but just for recreational programming.
Thanks! I'm currently checking out appInventer.. I somehow find it hard to come up with ideas which is why I'm trying to find help from here :|
I think the credit recharger is a pretty cool idea, personally. But I understand that you might want something with more "impact"
I think part of the key to this would be figuring out what has not already been done to death. There are so many apps with 5, 6, 7, etc versions of the basically the same thing. I would try to find something to develop with less competition, even if it's more of a niche product. I'm trying to think of the things I've previously thought "I wish I had an app for ____" but I'm drawing a blank right now.
If I think of anything I'll be sure to post it back in here

Thanks! I checked out google appInventer tutorials.. theres one which says "no text while driving" -- basically sends back an sms to the sender that ur driving.. It seems interesting so I'm gonna see how best i can use it and pack some more useful stuff along with it.. and see how it all works out.
The reason why I'm giving the auto recharge a back seat is because it can't be implemented in real time.. it can only be simulated in a virtual environment.
You might want to think about doing something that takes advantage of the maps api. It's easy to do but it looks impressive and might help you get high marks.
A great idea?!
Graphics artist here,
Something I just thought of and just started searching for (literally) when I came across your thread, would be: Using the phone as a touch sensitive.. control for editing software, ie photoshop or paint.net. Basically turn the phone into a touchpad control for a computer.
Just an idea!

This would be great! I'd definitely pay a couple/few dollars for something along these lines if it was user-friendly
Thats a really awesome idea!! Converting the touchscreen into a tablet input for PS or any other photo manipulation software.. But the problem is that I don't know where to begin! :|
This is a college project so the idea isn't to make a unique and sell-able application... it's to demonstrate that you can work as part of a team to make an application from design to completion.
I'd try and think of a fun app (i wouldnt care if it's been done 100 times before) that everyone on your team wants to contribute to. If it's unique, brilliant, if not nevermind you've got some good experience working as a team and making an android app.
I do like the sound of the phone touchpad app, it's been done on iPhone by Logitech but i've not seen something for android. If it helps, http://blog.logitech.com/2010/01/29...-touch-into-a-wireless-trackpad-and-keyboard/ .
There are a ton of them on the market: Gmote, MyRemote, UnifiedRemote, etc.
It might be a good idea to email this developers to get a better picture of what to do.
Problem is that all of those tools rely heavily on WiFi so you'll have to understand networking.

Bingo!! Which is exactly what my instructor said. I tried out the tutorials on appInventer.. I was toying with the idea of integrating more features into those itself. Is that a good idea? Although the concept is from Google, would it be ok to build on it? i'm particularly interested in "No texting while driving" and "Broadcast Hub" -- both these apps are awesome! Are there any notable features that I can add to make them better.
How about an app for the quick oil change places. It could show your last service and what was done. Show any upcoming maintenance and when your next oil change is due.
Maybe integrate Google Maps to show locations of service centers. Maybe offer a "e-coupon" if they use the app. Pretend they offer online scheduling and maybe show them "2 customers in bay, one waiting" - Estimated wait time 20 minutes" yada, yada
As an "older" programmer with 2 degrees, it's nice to see your college offering the mobile platform as a programming choice. Hell, all we got to write were COBOL and CICS mainframe applications and some semi-cool C++ projects.
Good Luck and Congratulations on getting your degree!!
What about a bluetooth hack to where u would be able to hack into someones phone and use their service for texting and calling. I heard of something like that when i was on my blackberry and was really into it. But it would be nice to get something like that on my Incredible

I think it would be a good idea to make an app that uses an existing web api for a popular website, could be facebook, ebay(do they have an api?) etc etc.
It's a good way to learn a lot of aspects of android development, with a useful product as the outcome.
It doesn't matter if there is already an app for that site, think of a different way of using the site on the mobile, and go from there.
I would like to see a program that reads the weather API and reflects the current weather and location on the wallpaper. This app would require graphics design, code to parse the weather feed, writing to the OS. When I was on Windows Mobile there was a skin for Weather Panel that did this but with Android's live walpaper it could be really cool.
Thanks for the ideas you guys! I really appreciate it. Everything seems interesting.. but the problem is we don't know where to begin or how to go about it.
I did the broadcast hub tutorial present in the app inventer page. It turned out good. Is there any way I can add functionality to this itself?

Do all the tutorials and learn the blocks, you can create lots of stuff. There is a app in the market that adds more features to the app inventor, app inventor extender
XDA App
A couple of suggestions:
- A chess PGN editor
- A simple picture/document management app where you take a photo using the camera, add some tags or other info, and save all details in a database. You can also provide search functionality and a viewer to retrieve pictures using the index you've built.

I did some homework on topics and came across this.. A multilingual speech translator.
Talk in a language, it converts the speech to text, translates that text to a target language, and reads the translated text aloud.
Is this feasible? What is the difficulty level?
Also, is it possible to develop a call blocker app? I looked around but wherever I search, I only find fully built apps but not pointers on how to go about creating one by yourself.
Please assist.

By the way everyone, if it's not showing up, then just change your date in settings to something a week from now and watch for the little bugger to show up on the bottom left of your screen!!
As cute as this thing is (and I downloaded Windy night too) I would rather have the space than have it on my phone. Does anyone know where these files are stored. I've done multiple google searches and can't find anything except some people are a bit upset like me that it just installs without asking and I was seeing people say you couldn't delete it (but I assume they aren't rooted). Since I'm rooted if I can find it I'll save it to my PC but clear the space on the phone. BTW Spotlight and this data take up 318 Megabytes!

Click "CLEAR DATA" and "CLEAR CACHE" to erase all but the measly 24.7 MB that Spotlight Player takes up by itself. If you want to remove it completely, use Titanium Backup to uninstall it (though MY suggestion is to simply "freeze" it).
Thanks, I did see that way to clear it but was hoping to copy the files to my PC in case I wanted to use them again at some point. Got 10 hard drives + and lotsa space in the main PC

I also tried busybox linux 'find' command using wildcards on bug but apparently that's not even what it uses for a name. Maybe if I knew the file extension type of these files I could find it but I don't know those yet....

Unless you are concerned that they will "go away", just re-download them again if you need them. These files will likely only ever work on the Moto X anyways, so when the device becomes obsolete you will have no way of playing them. As long as you just "freeze" the Spotlight app, you can always "unfreeze" it later and re-download the augmented-reality cartoons.
Anyways, just a really quick look with Root Browser shows that the relevant files appear to be in /data/data
There are a couple folders in there that might be what you are looking for. The first is com.motorola.avatar and I also see "com.motorola.bug2go". I don't have "windy night" downloaded so I'm not sure what its folder might be.
Good Luck.
Thanks again - I'll look in there. As it turns out these same 2 apps seem to be built in (or maybe downloaded by) the Google Virtual reality app 'cardboard'. I didn't have Wifi turned on and was in airplane mode so I tend to think they came with the cardboard app. Just got the cardboard VR kit today and since the Moto X is one of the officially supported phones I gave it a try. Very impressive in how it all works especially in panning around and up and down - just like being in a real place. Image quality was not quite as sharp as I had hoped but with a $17 VR kit I don't think you can expect too much It may also be the image resolution needs to be kept low in the app in order for it all to work with the existing power of the processors. My phone got noticeably warm in just a few minutes running this but fun stuff !

PrivateOS on OnePlus X?

Hi everyone. I'll explain you. After i watched the documentary about Edward Snowden, i feel that someone is spying on me. I found the blackphone online, and his PrivateOS is awesome! I'm not a porter, so if someone may port the PrivateOS to our OnePlus X, it would be awesome!! Some guys, wanted to port it on xperia (sauce: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/privatos-rom-1-0-1-t2833178)
If you want privacy buy a BlackBerry.
Hi, I had it on my Wiko Wax. I didn´t like it because de UI it´s not nice and it has a lot of security apps that I think it´s unnecessary for users like us. We have decent protection with security patches and the best security is the user. Maybe the blackphone rom is very secure yeah but if you want 100% security with this ROM just buy the blackphone, I don´t think it will be useful on our OPX. And yeah someone is spying on you. Google.

Thank you so much sheraz1015!
Yesterday, i found a video on youtube. This guy was explaining how to get your search history of Google.
I found that Google, was spying on me...they recorded with microphone of my OnePlus X my voice, every 2h!!
I was surprised that they recorded me also when i was sleeping!!!
I found also that they tracked my position, but my gps is always switched off!!
I didn't know that, but everyone who has google play services on the phone, they keep in history when you open
or close any app that you have. I'm pissed off!
Will someone try to port it, or make a secure rom, maybe not based on google apps?

Wasn't trying to be rude just herd blackberry has best security. But In this case I don't think it would matter. Thanks for sharing this don't think too many people know about it.
okay first: appreciate, that obviously there are other people concerned about their privacy.
second: there are people even more concerned about their privacy, like i.e. German's chancellor, making them pay 10,000$ for a cell phone - hacked. so how secure can som cell phone for some 100$ be?
next: about BlackBerry: where is ur privacy when all ur communication is routed through a private companies servers? As long as u do not fully trust such a company i'd call that surveillance too...
that being said: what do u consider to be secure regard ur privacy? first answer urself this question before making any progress. keep in mind, that ur cellphone is basically a full featured tracking system (which isnot a bad thing per se).
What do I mean?ˋWell for instance personally i don't consider photos synced to dropbox/google drive/microsoft's whatever to be private. they're located on servers inside the use, and as such accessable by officials whenever there's desire. also I do absolutely not consider my passwords to be safe when synced to my google account. Next i will not consider any call to be secure in a matter of "no one can listen"- that wont change unless u use end-to-end encryption which requires the called person to have an according setup. etc etc
i came to the conclusion that my phone simply is NOT secure! So if u do not intend to just keep ur hands off any device connected to the internet/gps u can be tracked. Just a matter of the effort to achieve that....
Now how can i just keep calm with all that. well i actually don't. its a compromise for me, as i just don't want to miss certain points which are provided by smartphones.
However I totally disagree with just handing over my private data making it needless to spy on me cause i instafacetweet**** whenever i'm at starbucks taking a coffee or sending private photos using services, that claim property of such (needless to call it by name..)
finally, to shorten this and maybe give u one or two hints especially regarding google apps etc:
- y handing google my actual name (u certainly won't be able to hide ur identity just because of this!! but referring to the last paragraph above this is step no1)
- personally i use opengapps pico which shrinks the amount of spyware down a bit (however there are some packages included safe to uninstall)
- regarding the "google tracks my app usage": well this is because u grant playstore/play services permission to do so (settings-->security-->app ausage access)
- also i have restricted access to pretty much anything for google apps as i only want playstore running(privacy guard or similar)
- using greenify (xposed required i guess) u can "uncover hidden synchronizations" which will (what a surprise) a HUGE list of syncs to be disabled in settings -->accounts-->google-->whatever
- also take a look in google settings (ads/"security")
- system administrator
etcetcetc...
if u want to minimize the chance one can create location profiles: mac spoofing (i guess thats the english term). also when u use buetooth headset, u ar visible for any near device. same goes for wlan search, nfc bla.
These are just a few things that make me personally feel a bit more comfortable using such devices. a huge part in this takes NOT using whatsapp/facebook or anything like that. i'm convinced computers don't understand social interaction, and as such they should only take a minor "transmitting" role in this and not tell me who/what i might like or what the f***
I actually do have friends and they will know if theres sth worth to know, which works the other way round too.
I hope I somehow stuck to the read thread (do u really say so? ) and maybe there were 1 or 2 points of use for u.
Whats most: the more u use/rely on such technology, the more of ur life can/will be exposed OR the more effort u will have to put into it to prevent that. (with the only result u increase the effort in spying on u/whatever).

Thank you very much for your dedication on a precise answering. All that you said.....you are right. Damn
I'm just trying out Nameless ROM. I noticed it has privacey guard as mentioned above. Whether it actually does anything who knows.
I'm paranoid about google services aswell.
Hence i installed a fresh build of CM13 / AOSP CAF
Installed F-Droid as primary market and replaced apps with open source replacements. (Replaced Chrome/AOSP browser with chromium etc.).
I also installed Firewall, adblocker+ and system manager for monitoring malicious apps and processes. Privacy guard & app ops also works wonders together
this not only gives u ability to customize android your way but also provides good level of security.
If you are still paranoid about identity, u can use orbot and tor network for anonymous identity. (Both found on F-Droid).
This also greatly improves battery life and keeps the phone snappy.
Hope this helps
In all honesty, just use Sailfish and remove everything you find funky. Private OS isn't worth porting. Another alternative would be to just flash any ROM without flashing GAPPs

I agree... in theory. however if u assume to be under surveillance, u better assume that u are not the only one inside the tor network to be under surveillance. u just need to observe a not too small amount of tor servers (which is still a relatively small amount, taking the capacity of todays intelligence services into consideration) to be able to reconstruct the whole path of any communication routed through that network. now also seeing that bandwidth is just lousy, there's just no point in using tor (except u want to access services, that require u to do so).
To cut a long story short, if u want ur internet traffic to be secure, u'll have to go for a vpn provider! (of course u have to trust that provider, as they are able to read anything u pass through that gate)
regards
t
P.S.: if u're interested in vpn service, pm me and i'll tell u my hoster which i think is one of the most trustworthy around and also provides some advanced methods other just don't.

is this all there is?

I have loved Android for years, and have a Cube T9 that has been my primary tablet. I purchased the Remix Ultra with the expectation of improving my business productivity.
So far underwhelmed would be the operative word, even though it is a beautiful tablet keyboard combo, very well made. and the price was right.
I think the most disappointing thing is there are so few apps that have the ability to become smaller and actually float on the screen and give you a true multi-tasking enviroment. And some of my favorites I have used for years ...like Quickpic, lose their settings entirely once installed to the Ultra. They work, but only one way ...no setting to adjust anything within the app itself.
I may go back to version 1.5, although I am thinking it will be the same, other than the fact I would have the more traditional Droid settings options, and a widget to tell me that the app I am using does not use phone mode.
I welcome all comments. I really want to love this OS.
Thanks,
BamaPanda
In searching the features of 2.0, I have found that swiping down from the top of the application when in full screen gives the option of the phone sized window ...on some apps.
The Quickpic app. I mentioned above is one that does shrink down to the phone window, and oddly ...when in the phone sized option, the settings return. Others I have tried ...such as the Chrome I am typing in ...do not shrink down.
So it looks like I just could be on a quest for a while to get as many apps as can be found that will do the phone windows trick.
Thanks for following. Hopefully my discovery will help others using 2.0.
So since I was able to discover a feature in ver. 2.0, I wonder if anyone knows how to get into developer mode.
I did find a way to access it through Malwarebytes, but would rather be able to access it directly.
This has links to being able install a micro SD card, and then properly removing the card. There is ability to do an unmount of the card in the current setup for settings, but it is virtually hidden.
@BamaPanda - First of all, thanks so much for your interest and support!
Now, onto your issues. I actually still use my Ultratablet, but less so now because of also testing our Remix OS for PC software. For my basic productivity needs, it's been fine. Can you tell me specifically what apps and issues you're having? Maybe just give me 3 more besides the one you mentioned and I'll see if there may be troubleshooting tips I can give you.
Thanks!

That worked. Now that I know that and the pull down trick to get an app (possibly) into phone window mode, I am sure I can continue to work with the OS.
I apologise for getting a bit anxious regarding the tab and its settings/ shortcuts. I had watched videos about all Remix could do, and I think I just expected there to more info out there.

Thanks!

Thanks.
As far as apps, do you know a particular mail app that will do the phone window? The one loaded with version 2.0 is full screen only. The mail app loaded is the same I have used, but if there is one that does the smaller window, it might be good.
Also right now I am using Polaris to take care of word and excel. The actual `Word` and `Excel` apps from Microsoft ...do they do the phone mode?
Thanks. I do hope attention and updates will continue for the Ultra Tablet, as I can see the big interest for the PC application of the OS maybe overshadowing the tablet support a bit.
Hopefully tablet support will continue, especially since there is a Pro tablet in the works.

@BamaPanda -
1) Email apps/windowed mode - Have you checked whether or not you've enabled windowed mode? Go to 'Settings > Applications > find your app' and then click it for 'App info' and deselect Open in fullscreen mode. See if this helps.
2) Yes, they do. Here's a tip to optimize your experience. After you download Word for example, resize it after you open up a document to it's smallest size possible. Then, restart the app. You can now set it in whatever size you'd like moving forward. You may do this with Excel and PPT as well.
3) Ultratablet will continue to receive updates and support from us. I use mine constantly still.
The tablet/keyboard is starting to grow on me. it is a good bit heavier than my Cube T9, but it should be for it's size.
Looks like it will be my back porch/table top wireless tablet of choice. The keyboard is great, response is perfect. I will use my Cube more for handheld use.
Not as fast as the Cube in many ways, but still a great tablet. Build is top notch!
Still learning, and I will post more things I learn in the hints post I made as I move forward.
Thanks for the help and understanding.

@BamaPanda - We did have Widget support for a couple of versions when Remix OS 2.0 just got launched for Ultratablet. However, we noticed that folks just weren't using Widgets much. So, although Widget supporters were very vocal, there wasn't much actual usage. It also takes resources to maintain Widget support. Thus, the PMs made a decision to take this feature out in later releases. Thanks!

Jason..
I watched an older video on keyboard shortcuts done by you.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to awaken the screen from the keyboard once asleep? I had thought the key directly above the 6 was it, but apparently not.
Thank you.
BamaPanda, not sure if you've already noticed this, but the keyboard button with three horizontal lines, located above the '8' key, opens the menu in some apps. unfortunately it doesn't work with quickpics, which is annoying. (i also use it -- i just have to switch to phone mode to access the menu.)
i forget which apps this button works for -- but if you're ever in that situation give it a try. you could also submit feedback to the app developer because this is something they can fix to make their app usable for tablets. sometimes that actually works!
you should probably wait nougat becoming mainstream and chrome os playstore being widely available on chromebooks.then things will become interesting.

Need help finding my ideal browser.

So here is the deal. I stopped using Chrome quite some time ago in favor of FF Beta. I like it quite a bit, but would like something a little more considerate of my privacy. I found FOSS Browser on F-Droid and loved it, until I found out it doesn't preserve your open tabs. I looked at Brave browser and really liked the look of that, but it doesn't seem to support sync on mobile and I can find no info on if you can back up it's data and if so what. Kiwi would also be an ideal solution I think if it supported sync or backups.
Sync is not an absolute requirement for me if I can back up my tabs and bookmarks.
I don't care about password storage as I use a separate password database.
I want the ability to have multiple tabs and have them preserved.
Privacy is important, but I don't need one of those always incognito types as that would not preserve my tabs and such.
Again FOSS would be perfect if it just preserved my open tabs. It seems the dev is not worried about that feature, so I am not going to hold my breath for it either. If someone has experience with Brave and can confirm I can do backups with it, even if it isn't built in and ADB backups of it work well, that would probably be good. Especially since they will eventually add sync.
TIA for your thoughts!
have you tried BRAVE browser? its based on chromium - I use that mostly

No problem! I'm happy to get any input even on the ones I mentioned. I may test the beta sync out. I am very interested in Brave anyways.

Samsung internet is not really good for my privacy. It reports back everything to Samsung and who knows what they do with it. Also I don't trust their backup for the browser I tried it once and when I redid my phone there was no backup.

I upvote both Samsung Internet and Beta. I especially like the beta as it allows S-Pen functionality like single click to navigate backwards and double click to navigate forwards. I use Kiwi for any crappy site that has issues loading; but I think I've used it once in the last year for that. Samsungs dark mode in their browsers and ad blockers are top notch; you cannot go wrong with them.

I may look into how to block the browser from communicating with Samsung too much. I do see it recommended a lot and from what little I have used it, it seems good. I especially like the S-Pen functionality, that sounds cool.
I'm closer to being sold on Samsung Internet after seeing you can use disconnect with it now. Still looking into how and what it reports back to Samsung.
all this time I was sitting on a little gem! Thanks to all who recommended Samsung browser, it's really good!

Just make sure you get the adguard and disconnect add-ons. They will speed things up and keep you safer. I am switching to it for now and am surprised at how fast and smooth it is.
Oh! Also go into settings>privacy and security and turn off customization service to turn off the Samsung tracking and turn on do not track.
Which ad blocker addon for Samsung Internet browser do you guys find the best?

With Samsung Internet is there any way to do the double tap and pull zoom method? I use that all the time to zoom with one hand and it doesn't seem to work on Samsung but it does in Chrome
Just an opinion if privacy/data collection/trackers/cookies/scripts are an annoyance try reading this. It's called Orfox browser and is built with privacy in mind & is a modified version of Firefox. If you are wanting even more privacy run it with orbot. I could go into depth with all the possibilities but maybe reading for yourself would help you understand how it all works better than me trying to describe how it works. Orfox browser is the Firefox based privacy browser and orbot is basically a VPN that hides your IP by bouncing your connection through many other people, countries & such making it very hard for anyone to track it back to you. Your internet habits, location, cookies, trackers and so on are just pieces of the bigger data collection picture. I suggest that you don't visit the darknet or websites that end in .onion but regular websites ending in .com or .ca or .org or .net for example. You may run into some pretty explicit, violent, depraved, sick, drugs, weapons, & anything illegal you can imagine, and then some. If privacy is a HUGE concern maybe search videos on Orfox & Orbot Privacy on YouTube. If you just want the browser for privacy here is the link & info. Be warned, never use sensitive data such as email addresses, passwords, bank/credit card info, or anything personal on the darknet or sites ending in .onion because any of the many middle servers re-routing your traffic can see your info if they have the knowledge. I'd stick to just Orfox, & when sending sensitive data, just check and hope the site begins with https:// not just http:// and avoid Orbot with Orfox combo. Everything we do is being watched by "big brother" & it makes me sick. Maybe one day we will not have to take extra measures to keep our business our business & not a commodity to be traded & sold. One last note, turning anything dealing with your location to off in the settings does nothing. Google can still see where you are, buildings you enter, they know if you are walking, driving, cycling, your speed, elevation & much more. Only way to not have your location tracked is to power your phone completely off if you wish to not share all of that info. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a phone if we have to resort to keeping it off. How do we receive calls then? Big thanks to Google.com, Samsung, Android, & all those that buy trade and sell our very personal info. Lmfao. Like they care. $$$

Try Kiwi browser. Chromium based but privacy centric and has bottom toolbar option and inbuilt adblock ?

You can use orfox just like you would use Firefox. It is more geared towards safety and you can read about it on the developer's website and come up with your own conclusion. It has options such as turning off Scripts and different security settings from low to high depending on how secure you wish your connection to be in terms of trackers and such. When you first launch orfox it will ask you to install Orbot but you can click cancel and use it just as a browser but it is much safer than most of the standard browsers. And the only reason I recommend avoiding Orbot is because it usually ends up leading curious people to the dark web and can very easily lead to your credit card numbers or bank accounts or passwords to email accounts or many other things being stolen because the way it works is it bounces your connection through a whole bunch of other people's PCS and phones and whatever they will be running Orbot on and that's why it is so hard to track somebody when they are using it. I didn't mean for people not to use it just that it is easy to get taken advantage of and even easier to run into things that are mostly illegal and could get someone in serious trouble even if they unintentionally happened upon these sites. I felt the need to give the warning so someone doesn't come back and say you told me this was 100% safe. If you read my post I recommended them to read on the topic and check out YouTube videos before they decide to use Orbot and Tor Fox together.
I'm not sure why you're not using Firefox? I keep going back to it because mostly for the amp link remover. I use Google news and they're all amp links with lots of ads. I need my brother to convert amp pages to regular. Brave didn't have that capability.

From wikipedia:
Brave Software has announced that it is developing a feature allowing users to opt in to receiving ads sold by the company in place of ads blocked by the browser.[8][9][10] Brave intends to pay content publishers 55% of the replaced ad revenue. Brave Software, ad partners, and browser users would each be allocated 15% of the revenue. Users would be able to donate their revenue share to content publishers through micropayments.[11]
In a testing version of the browser, Brave targets web ads by analyzing users' anonymized browsing history.[12]
