Second Camera "profile" using a different directory and sync settings - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I would like to start a foto project and would like to store those photos separately.
I don't want to use another camera app, because stock works best for me.
Would it be possible to have a "switch" to store pictures in a different directory than usual and them not appear in google fotos and syncing to another google account if possible.
I tried setting up a second user on the phone, but it didn't make a trick, because all pictures were still shared and visible in camera app and google fotos.
Maybe hiding moving pictures in hindsight would be a solution, but I don't want much overhead and they should still be backed up

probably will just "archive" the pics inside google fotos, seems like a solution

For the similar thing I setup "Work" profile and use the same apps in both profiles with different google accounts.
All you need to do is install app to setup work profile and clone the needed apps.

How would you do this? I had a work profile installed, but my former employer used some enterprice soft for this

Please be aware that you cannot use two work profiles.

Why not just turn off data/wifi temporarily when capturing pics. Then move them to new folder outside DCIM/Camera?

DropBox - upload pictures (duplicate)

I can’t find anymore the option to syncro only new pictures from my Note 3. I’ve installed an SD card with subfolders and DB is duplicating all of them in DB Camera Uploads folder. How can I stop this?
In the past there was an option "only new pictures" that, if flagged, was uploading only the pictures taken from that moment but in the 4.3 App it looks like they've removed it.
Any clue?
Previous mobile-DB version screenshot
Current mobile-DB version screenshot (no flag anymore)
Just got the DropBox answer on the issue: There currently isn't a setting in the app that lets you filter out pictures that had already been uploaded from another device.
Really?
If you would like us to give the option to filter out pictures that have been uploaded already, please feel free to make a feature request through our Votebox.
So, if you guys miss that option as me, please click here and vote. You may vote more than once.

By the way everyone, if it's not showing up, then just change your date in settings to something a week from now and watch for the little bugger to show up on the bottom left of your screen!!
As cute as this thing is (and I downloaded Windy night too) I would rather have the space than have it on my phone. Does anyone know where these files are stored. I've done multiple google searches and can't find anything except some people are a bit upset like me that it just installs without asking and I was seeing people say you couldn't delete it (but I assume they aren't rooted). Since I'm rooted if I can find it I'll save it to my PC but clear the space on the phone. BTW Spotlight and this data take up 318 Megabytes!

Click "CLEAR DATA" and "CLEAR CACHE" to erase all but the measly 24.7 MB that Spotlight Player takes up by itself. If you want to remove it completely, use Titanium Backup to uninstall it (though MY suggestion is to simply "freeze" it).
Thanks, I did see that way to clear it but was hoping to copy the files to my PC in case I wanted to use them again at some point. Got 10 hard drives + and lotsa space in the main PC

I also tried busybox linux 'find' command using wildcards on bug but apparently that's not even what it uses for a name. Maybe if I knew the file extension type of these files I could find it but I don't know those yet....

Unless you are concerned that they will "go away", just re-download them again if you need them. These files will likely only ever work on the Moto X anyways, so when the device becomes obsolete you will have no way of playing them. As long as you just "freeze" the Spotlight app, you can always "unfreeze" it later and re-download the augmented-reality cartoons.
Anyways, just a really quick look with Root Browser shows that the relevant files appear to be in /data/data
There are a couple folders in there that might be what you are looking for. The first is com.motorola.avatar and I also see "com.motorola.bug2go". I don't have "windy night" downloaded so I'm not sure what its folder might be.
Good Luck.
Thanks again - I'll look in there. As it turns out these same 2 apps seem to be built in (or maybe downloaded by) the Google Virtual reality app 'cardboard'. I didn't have Wifi turned on and was in airplane mode so I tend to think they came with the cardboard app. Just got the cardboard VR kit today and since the Moto X is one of the officially supported phones I gave it a try. Very impressive in how it all works especially in panning around and up and down - just like being in a real place. Image quality was not quite as sharp as I had hoped but with a $17 VR kit I don't think you can expect too much It may also be the image resolution needs to be kept low in the app in order for it all to work with the existing power of the processors. My phone got noticeably warm in just a few minutes running this but fun stuff !

QuickPic code share for storage increase

I wasn't aware of this app until it was pre-installed on a custom flash game in place of the default gallery.
I don't know how long they'll be around for, for such a massive photo storage cloud but the app has support for various other clouds and samba support as well. I initially wasn't that interested since I use Foldersync but I would like to try it out as my gallery for now, and that said it seemed I may as well get the bazillion Gig storage option. Doing it here keeps me from spamming my friends.
From the looks of it, you only need to get one referral, so if someone takes mine, please say so and repost a code assuming one is available, if not then I suppose its simply a good place for people to post who want space; referees get it as well therefore I'm unclear how it works in this regard.
Hey! I'm trying to get 1,000GB free cloud space, but I need your help!

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't read the store comments because indeed it is how I found it. The interface and functionality are still good. Hopefully I can neuter any services and permissions I don't like after moving it out of /system (and it irritates me that ROM cookers put things there at all).
It's been quite some time since I had a gallery app with a folder view that was complete and was also able to delete photos when I told it to. Hopefully I can either find something else or get this one to do all of the above after removing it from /system and installing normally.
I only briefly, just now, by the way, and I didn't find all the file sharing support it advertises, including Samba but assuming the cloud space is in fact upgradable, another layer of redundancy would be desirable.
We shall see how things turn out...
EDIT: Permissions were fine. New code since I used the one I posted

Need help finding my ideal browser.

So here is the deal. I stopped using Chrome quite some time ago in favor of FF Beta. I like it quite a bit, but would like something a little more considerate of my privacy. I found FOSS Browser on F-Droid and loved it, until I found out it doesn't preserve your open tabs. I looked at Brave browser and really liked the look of that, but it doesn't seem to support sync on mobile and I can find no info on if you can back up it's data and if so what. Kiwi would also be an ideal solution I think if it supported sync or backups.
Sync is not an absolute requirement for me if I can back up my tabs and bookmarks.
I don't care about password storage as I use a separate password database.
I want the ability to have multiple tabs and have them preserved.
Privacy is important, but I don't need one of those always incognito types as that would not preserve my tabs and such.
Again FOSS would be perfect if it just preserved my open tabs. It seems the dev is not worried about that feature, so I am not going to hold my breath for it either. If someone has experience with Brave and can confirm I can do backups with it, even if it isn't built in and ADB backups of it work well, that would probably be good. Especially since they will eventually add sync.
TIA for your thoughts!

Samsung internet is not really good for my privacy. It reports back everything to Samsung and who knows what they do with it. Also I don't trust their backup for the browser I tried it once and when I redid my phone there was no backup.

I upvote both Samsung Internet and Beta. I especially like the beta as it allows S-Pen functionality like single click to navigate backwards and double click to navigate forwards. I use Kiwi for any crappy site that has issues loading; but I think I've used it once in the last year for that. Samsungs dark mode in their browsers and ad blockers are top notch; you cannot go wrong with them.

I may look into how to block the browser from communicating with Samsung too much. I do see it recommended a lot and from what little I have used it, it seems good. I especially like the S-Pen functionality, that sounds cool.

Just an opinion if privacy/data collection/trackers/cookies/scripts are an annoyance try reading this. It's called Orfox browser and is built with privacy in mind & is a modified version of Firefox. If you are wanting even more privacy run it with orbot. I could go into depth with all the possibilities but maybe reading for yourself would help you understand how it all works better than me trying to describe how it works. Orfox browser is the Firefox based privacy browser and orbot is basically a VPN that hides your IP by bouncing your connection through many other people, countries & such making it very hard for anyone to track it back to you. Your internet habits, location, cookies, trackers and so on are just pieces of the bigger data collection picture. I suggest that you don't visit the darknet or websites that end in .onion but regular websites ending in .com or .ca or .org or .net for example. You may run into some pretty explicit, violent, depraved, sick, drugs, weapons, & anything illegal you can imagine, and then some. If privacy is a HUGE concern maybe search videos on Orfox & Orbot Privacy on YouTube. If you just want the browser for privacy here is the link & info. Be warned, never use sensitive data such as email addresses, passwords, bank/credit card info, or anything personal on the darknet or sites ending in .onion because any of the many middle servers re-routing your traffic can see your info if they have the knowledge. I'd stick to just Orfox, & when sending sensitive data, just check and hope the site begins with https:// not just http:// and avoid Orbot with Orfox combo. Everything we do is being watched by "big brother" & it makes me sick. Maybe one day we will not have to take extra measures to keep our business our business & not a commodity to be traded & sold. One last note, turning anything dealing with your location to off in the settings does nothing. Google can still see where you are, buildings you enter, they know if you are walking, driving, cycling, your speed, elevation & much more. Only way to not have your location tracked is to power your phone completely off if you wish to not share all of that info. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a phone if we have to resort to keeping it off. How do we receive calls then? Big thanks to Google.com, Samsung, Android, & all those that buy trade and sell our very personal info. Lmfao. Like they care. $$$

You can use orfox just like you would use Firefox. It is more geared towards safety and you can read about it on the developer's website and come up with your own conclusion. It has options such as turning off Scripts and different security settings from low to high depending on how secure you wish your connection to be in terms of trackers and such. When you first launch orfox it will ask you to install Orbot but you can click cancel and use it just as a browser but it is much safer than most of the standard browsers. And the only reason I recommend avoiding Orbot is because it usually ends up leading curious people to the dark web and can very easily lead to your credit card numbers or bank accounts or passwords to email accounts or many other things being stolen because the way it works is it bounces your connection through a whole bunch of other people's PCS and phones and whatever they will be running Orbot on and that's why it is so hard to track somebody when they are using it. I didn't mean for people not to use it just that it is easy to get taken advantage of and even easier to run into things that are mostly illegal and could get someone in serious trouble even if they unintentionally happened upon these sites. I felt the need to give the warning so someone doesn't come back and say you told me this was 100% safe. If you read my post I recommended them to read on the topic and check out YouTube videos before they decide to use Orbot and Tor Fox together.
I'm not sure why you're not using Firefox? I keep going back to it because mostly for the amp link remover. I use Google news and they're all amp links with lots of ads. I need my brother to convert amp pages to regular. Brave didn't have that capability.

From wikipedia:
Brave Software has announced that it is developing a feature allowing users to opt in to receiving ads sold by the company in place of ads blocked by the browser.[8][9][10] Brave intends to pay content publishers 55% of the replaced ad revenue. Brave Software, ad partners, and browser users would each be allocated 15% of the revenue. Users would be able to donate their revenue share to content publishers through micropayments.[11]
In a testing version of the browser, Brave targets web ads by analyzing users' anonymized browsing history.[12]
