T-Mobile & WIFI Calling - Free - G2 and Desire Z General

I saw a quick reference to this so I stopped by my local t-mobile store. Turns out all you need to do is get it added to your plan. From what I was told it isn't free unless you get it added. Also it doesn't change your contract (ie extending it).

Well call tmo cuz I have the wifi calling and its free just call 611 had them add it.

Yup, this started kind of quietly around May 13. You can do it through T-Mobile Chat online easily as long as your plan qualifies.
In order for it to work though, you MUST be on one of the newer Even More plans.

That I am not sure. My guess is yes but you'd have to ask someone at T-Mobile to be sure. Just chat with them online and ask for it, then see what they say.

Search for it in our forum here I made a topic with the do's and don'ts and other peoples experiences so you have the best chance of the rep playing stupid with you.

Yes the no contract plans known now as flex pay are on their way out. I recently did an online survey on this. Looks like the same plans will be offered as those on contract with an added feature of being able to set overage limits. If you don't want to pay for extra monthly minutes you can set it up to shut off your service when you reach your max. If you want to be able to go a little over you'll be. Able to set a dollar amount. Of course the only info I have comes from a consumer survey.

$10 Data Plan working on MT4G?

I've tried internet2.voicestream.com and wap.voicestream.com and it isn't working. Running stock. Would it work if I rooted and put on cm6 or is there another way to get it to work? Thank you.
I believe T-mo closed that loophole a long time ago, because it does check against your IMEI number.

Does the Android Preferred Web include the 4G network?
I'm also paying 30 bucks a month for mine and under services it's called 4G Web - Unlimited.
However my mom has a Samsung Vibrant and under services for her it says Android Unlimited Web.
I think she pays 25 for that.
What's the difference b/t your 20 dollar plan and my 30?
And how would I go about getting this option?
It's the same plan. The difference is in marketing terms. You need to call retentions or what they call loyalty department.
Ask then if you could apply the android preferred web plan since your friend(s) have it.

You can tether for free (after root, remove or freeze tether manage app). and then you can tether for free unlimited (with "4g" speed) without being throttled if you use the APN trick (search for it).
Apn trick does not work

It does work for me. I am at 200MB unlimited plan and I have used 413MB so far. I have deleted tether manager and tethering does work for me. I have been tethering my phone with my samsung galaxy 10.1 tab. I don't stream at all so I don't use that much data. You would be surprised how much data 'word with friends' uses though.
so does that mean we'll have to call in tmo and request for this new free service? for our rooted phones with tether manager frozen, do we need to unfreeze it or re-install it?
Just use tether as u would if u were rooted. No need to freeze anything.

I currently have the 5GB Android Preferred Data plan. Short story: it looks like users on this plan is not eligible for free hotspot.
Called t-mo this morning regarding the hotspot promo. First with regular CSR. She was aware of this promo, but said that free hotspot is only available as a bundle with the premium 5GB (or 10GB) data plan. Android Preferred Data Plan subscriber has to "upgrade" to one of the regular bundles.
Called t-mo again now asked for retention. He was NOT aware of this promo. Checked with his supervisor and they do not see any free hotspot feature as an add-on. He said he's terribly sorry but there was nothing he can click to add on. He said that if something became available he will call me back.

Tried the APN manager trick but didn't work for me either. Deleting the pcweb.t-mobile.com APN does not work for me as it'll just reappear.
I had to use the new SIM that came with the white S2 to enable wifi-calling, and I suspect that the pcweb.t-mobile.com APN is hardcoded on the SIM. And everytime you change the APN, it'll copy the that pcweb APN back to your phone.
If there's anyone who got the APN trick to work with new SIM, please voice your success!

loyalty (retention) department and regular CSR are definitely different departments and seeing different promotion lists.
I tried it again with loyalty. The rep did not know this promotion either looked it up in "the other department." However, she said that since the Preferred Android Data plan is already a promotional plan, I won't be able to get the hotspot feature unless I switch to the regular 5GB data plan. I respectfully declined.
Grrr. I think I may be getting frustrated enough to want to root my phone!
Has anyone tried the APN trick to allow hotspot, using a new SIM with wifi-calling enabled? (ie. delete the pcweb.t-mobile.com APN)

If you have the 5GB plan @ $30 they just add it on for free. If you have the loyalty "preferred android web" @ $20 it seems most CSRs won't add it unless you "upgrade" to the $30 plan. However, there seems to be at least one successful situation where the rep added it to the loyalty plan YMMV.
I added it but I upgraded from the $20 "android preferred web" (5GB soft cap) to the $30 plan. I felt the upgrade was worth it, since it seems that T-Mobile is making it more difficult to get around tethering (even rooted) with every new phone they release.

(I'm not being a wise-ass. It just seems the logical thing to do in this situation. *shrug*)
porting a number usually requires a fair bit of info about the account. why did you tell him your tmobile password/pin when you were saying you didn't want it ported? either way tmobile prepaid bases teh account off your number, since your number isnt there anymore neither is your account. and you remove that number and you are gunna face issues with sprint (the 100 dollar discount being one of them).
my suggestion, eat the 27 bucks loss and consider it a life experience

Funny you are wrong. Sprint has 4g, as well. I have excellent 4g. When my 4g is unavailable, my 3g is not 'slow.' Almost everything depends on the location. Location, location, location. I wouldn't base your speed & area's "3g/4g" without knowing where they are & their speeds. Sprint's upgrading their towers & they are popping up here & there. There's a whole thread going on about it. Look for it & do some research. Contract or no contract, they switched for personal reasons.
Sent from my Sprint Unlimited plan with 4g
Anyway, I'm not sure why you gave them your TMO pin & info if you didn't want it the phone number ported. Sounds like the rep got the "Spint Customer Service script" wrong or you misunderstood him. Definitely call customer service, asap. I had to jump through hoops to get my S4 situated for other reasons. Call them & call them & call them until you get your answer(s) & it's solved.
T-mobile told me that I'll have to call Sprint and tell them I didn't want that number transferred and that I need a new number then when they change it I can get my tmobile account back. Will this really work?

Yeah T Mobile doesn't have a contract but to offset it you pay full price for your phones now. Ex. The S4 is $149.99 down and $20 a month for 24 months which equals $630( regular price for device). So in essence there's no "plan contract" but there is a "phone contract" which costs just about as much as an early termination fee thus keeping you locked in for 2 years. The good thing is you can upgrade whenever a new device comes out but the bad thing is you have to pay off the balance on the current device and then you can start the payment plan all over again. That's basically paying your early termination fee on any other carrier to fulfill your current contract so you can a start a new one. No thanks T Mobile. I'll pass.
So I should definitely be able to get my TMobile Account and everything back for sure?

I just left Sprint and came to T-Mobile and got the GS4. Sprint sucks. Spent 6 years dealing with their horrible data speeds on a smartphone. Not anymore! T-Mobile is a big improvement. Not sure if this Jump! program is a good idea for those who buy all the newest phones and then sell them on craigslist towards the new one. Doesn't seem like it saves you very much since you have to turn in the phone you currently have.
Well, if you do the math.....$99 down and $20/mo for 6/mo, and $10/mo for the Jump program, thats $279. $579-279 is $300. Yes, you could get more on craigslist if you wanted, but its better than most of the other trade in programs, and its very convenient. And that extra $10 includes insurance/theft protection.
So right now, I got the S4 in May and of course I have to pay it off. If I enroll in the program I don't have to pay it off anymore or what?

Yes... But I read you have to wait 6 months before the first upgrade. The payoff disappears, trade in your current phone, and buy at new customer price... With the monthly financing of course.

The question is: when does if start? It officially starts July 14, so does it apply only to new purchases after that? Or will they let you do it retroactive to a certain date. Also you have to have the insurance plan already, which I believe must be put on at the time of purchase of the phone.
I just read on T-Mobile's site: " JUMP must be added within 14 days of qualified device purchase."
Does this mean we are screwed if we got our S4 before July 1st? The program starts on the 14th.

I watched the full press conference and had some of the same questions you guys do. One of the things they said was that there would be a limited time opportunity for existing customers to sign up, but there were no further details given. So I decided to ask. The first person through customer service chat hadnt even heard of it yet so I asked in the forums. The only answer I got there was someone saying it was for all simple choice customers. But if you go here to the Jump info page toward the bottom of the page it says "Already a T-Mobile customer?" and has a link. When you click that link it takes you to your log on. After logging in it takes you back to that info page with the July 14th date. If it wasnt for existing customers I dont see why that would be on the "Jump" page.
Heres how I think it works as far as existing customers. When it starts on July 14th there will be a limited time window for existing simple choice customers that already have the insurance to be able to change their existing PHP insurance to "Jump". Since I am still within my 14 day period I made sure I added the insurance just to make sure I qualified. We will know soon enough, but my guess is that it will be available to us for a limited time, and only if we already have the standard insurance they offer now.

It replaces your existing insurance. So if your paying the 7.99 now its only $2 more to replace it with Jump. This covers basically everything that could break your phone, theft, loss, and adds the ability to upgrade up to twice a year. I just tweeted John Legere the CEO and asked about current customers. Ill update this if he answers.

This is true. But for me I'd rather sell on Craigslist and get a little bit more for it which I can use the difference, after paying off my eip, to put down on a new phone. Plus the $2 a month I'm saving not going with the program and doing the regular $7.99 insurance instead. But that's just me.
