Some info on the pre order at bb

I found out some info on the pre order that some of you might find handy. I spoke with a verizon rep and he said that bb will be able to do the early upgrade for contracts that expire this year.he also said that the extra 2gb tether is on top of the 5gb data plan. So you will have a total of 7gb. Hope this helps.

Aw only 5 gigs? That's really little, I like Sprint's unlimited data... Would be nice if you could change the MEID and make it work on Sprint... though that's probably illegal I think.
(Also don't they market their data as unlimited?)

I went in today knowing I should be able to through verizon stores.. however BB would not let me do the early upgrade for some reason.. maybe it's due being that my line is a sub-line?
Oh well, just gotta wait till the 15th and be out there first... I can do that luckily : )

Please watch the video on youtube watch?v=_SlnGc52Hf8 and fast forward it to 27:37 for clarification about this. John Stratton, executive vice president chief marketing officer, clearly states that unlimited data plan is unlimited. As he said it in that part of the clip you can start using it in the beginning of the month and keep using it until the end of the month. 2GB allowance for the tethering option is when you use your phone as a mobile hotspot. Some people may be confused by this but they can track anyone using that feature. So any data activity while that feature is on is going to be using that 2GB limit. And it is 5 cent a megabyte after that limit. If you want more assurance look at verizon's term and condition at vzw.com. Nowhere in there it mentions anything about a limit for smartphones. There IS a limit for netbooks and broadband access devices but not for smartphones and using them without tethering.
For example they have tethering option for Blackberry's and they have 5GB limit when you share internet connectivity. But it is unlimited when you are not tethering your phone to your computer.
I don't know who you talked to at Verizon but I can tell you for sure that there is no limit for using the internet access from your smartphone. There is a limit when you tether it to a computer, camcorder, digital camera etc... If you want to believe that Verizon guy go ahead but I think you want to listen to John Stratton instead.

"Business Reasons" gets you Unlimited Data!

I bought my Atrix on launch day after having left ATT the previous June for Sprint (Evo). Before leaving I had an iPhone 3GS with unlimited data.
I called ATT yesterday to see if a simple phone call could restore my unlimited data plan instead of having to do the iphone 2g sim card trick. Long story short, I now have unlimited data again! Here is the key piece of information that I learned.
If you EVER had unlimited data, call ATT and kindly explain that you have a BUSINESS REASON for unlimited data. It will have to get approved by a manager, but I was specifically told that "business reason" is the key words you need to use to get the switch approved.
FYI: When I left ATT the first time, we had two phones on the account. One of the numbers, my wife's, stayed on the account. So, we technically didn't quit ATT for that year since my wife stayed with ATT. Not sure if thats relevant or not.

EDIT: My "Business Reasons" were that I am an IT consultant and use my Atrix for remote access to clients. The CSR was very understanding and the manager practically auto-approved the change. I don't know for sure if having had unlimited data before is required or if simply having business needs for more data are enough. Anyone else care to give it a shot?

This was a news article a few weeks ago. AT&T wants to win any customers back.

I was able to get mine back just by asking for a supervisor, no reason needed.

Yea,........that didn't work so well for me. I have been trying to get mine back for months now. I even went as far as giving them the feature code for it. Just blew me off. Talked to two different supervisors.
I called and left a message with the AT&T office lady that called me about when I complained about the HSUPA. I am hoping on Monday, I can talk her into giving me it back. (with a little HSUPA thrown in the mix).

You won't get HSUPA, that's a software update on the phone, not on your account or anything to do with the towers near you. Good luck getting it back though!

Yea, I am aware of that......she is the one that called me when I complained about the Atrix not having it. I figure while I call and ask for an update on when we will be receiving that, maybe I will hit her up for putting the unlimited data back on for me as a good deed for not giving us HSUPA right away.

I can confirm this did not work for me :'( back to 2g trick for me, if only I can find someone to let me borrow.

I really hope this works. Def will try tomorrow cuz I use to have unlimited data for my iPhone but when I switched over to the Attic they forced me to get rid of it! Blower!

If you had unlimited data for your iPhone and switched to the Atrix and maybe were told by a rep in an AT&T store that for some reason you couldn't keep it, you were fooled. I'd go back into an AT&T store.... possibly a different one, and inquire about it. I had a whole mess to go through when i activated my Atrix (ordered it with one of my parent's upgrades, so i wouldn't have to pay full price).... and at first it was activated under my mom's number.... so they had to reassign her iPhone to her number, then when they assigned the Atrix to my number, she showed me the overview of the services for my phone number, at which point i noticed that it was no longer under the unlimited plan. She called someone, and mentioned this to them..... and they changed it over on their end. I guess they might have a way of looking up whether or not you actually did have it previously.... but either way, you SHOULD have been able to keep your unlimited plan. I think even when i thought about pre-ordering it online before it's release, it had the unlimited data plan in the list and auto-selected.

I thought that was the case. I called AT&T and told them that I use to have unlimited data and told them that I usually go over 2gb before my cycle is up and after talking to several reps, they finally reactivated it! Thanks a lot for this thread because having only 2gb of data a month was really starting to aggravate me...

HAHAHA! I hate autocorrect on this phone sometimes.... #FAIL

That's why i like Swype. type Atrix in manually.... and it remembers it. TADA!
Not to mention after a few uses, it's easy as hell.... and quite often more accurate than the multitouch keyboard. so used to typing really quick with my ex-iPhone 4 and having auto-correct fix some minor mistakes..... then going to Android's multitouch keyboard which seems to have not much of any autocorrect for most stuff.... found myself using the backspace button rather often.

what did you do to get this done? can you give us some details?

In his comment on the previous page, he said when he bought his Atrix, he was told he could not keep his unlimited plan, which was a lie. That's it... Plain & simple. Not some workaround... Just fixing a mistake by an ill-informed representative.

Unlimited data plan for Atrix with tethering? Is it possible?
Hi - I just moved from iphone 4 unlimited data to Atrix 4G and was told that, in order to add tethering, I couldn't have unlmited data anymore. Does anybody know if there is a way around this? I wanted to add tethering so i could get rid of my dedicated USB modem (and the $60/month charge) and, hoping to see 4G speeds sooner rather than later on the atrix, an Atrix Hotspot would give me better speeds than the USD modem.
I know you can go unlimited iphone to unlimited Atrix but can you do that and have tethering? Any advice would be appreciated.

Only way to tether and have unlimited is with one of the workarounds. Not exactly sure what they are though. unlimited + tethering from AT&T themselves would be like voluntary network suicide.

i shall take some advice from here as i will soon be getting "the worlds most powerful smartphone". on a 2GB cap. what kind of ****ery is that. but i guess.
i will go a month with the 2 GB cap, then call in enraged that i only have a 2GB cap. lol. see how it goes.

I had this problem a while back. I just called up the retention department and had them switch me to the official "android" data plan but requested they keep my same price. Been with Tmo for close to 12 years so I guess they just decided to eat the cost.
Good thing is, that "official" data plan is now part of my profile and as long as I buy my phones off contract I should be okay unless they try more shenanigans in the future.

my 5.99 tzone is still working with APN wap.voicestream.com however my brother $10 web2go get blocked since today. It happened to him before, but it got connection back after a day or two. So guys just be patience!

Yeah it happened before here and there but it's too wide spread now to think it's just a fluke. It doesn't hurt however to give it a day or two and go from there.

There had been brief episodes of a day or two before, but it always opened up again. Not so that time. Switched to wap.voicestream.com and all has been well since.

Did you call 611 from your phone? I call but I guess it's not "retention" cause they told me there's no such thing as "android" plan. Want me to pay $25/mo.

Ask for the 200MB data plan for $10, verify that there will be no overage charges, Just edge speed after 200MB.
I switched 3 phones to the $10 plan with no problems. T-Mo customer service is excellent.
Make sure you configure market/google plus, google photos, amazon market, etc to only sync large volumes of data over wifi.

Yup, all sites and Google servers working fine. My SIM is about 10 years old, and I've been with Tmo as long. Maybe the T-Zones plan is treated differently from Web2Go?

I called 877-524-9422. This is their retention / loyalty department. They have more leeway and can give pricing for plans not offered anymore.

How would buying phones on contract affect the data plan being on your account? Or do grandfathered plans usually not carry over when you get new subsidized phones?

My Web2go plan that i have been using for almost 2 years have just stopped working . I switch the the wap.voicestream.com and i can only get into few website as someone noted above. Tried calling them and they wanted me to get one them new plans the 200mb and the unlimited 5gb cap. Idk maybe ill stick to this and wait if there is a way out. I guess days of unlimited usage of data for 10$ is gone. Btw people are calling tmobile and they say that its an easy fix and their fixes are the upsell to another plan which means you will lose your grandfathered plan just a heads up. Can anyone confirm if web2go still works with galaxy nexus uk version?

I thought it was just me. I decided to unsubscribe to the tzones and see if I put the sim back on my old phone and re-enable it that way.

My internet2.voicestream.com stopped working last week. I experience the same thing as others with wap working some of the time. I called T-mobile customer support to change to the normal data plan for $10. But the online account says the service is 200MB 4G but the data usage says 5GB Unlimited.

I think it will take them a few days to change what is shown on your account.

It sounded good until you said free tethering. Because if you visit related forums, you'll see that they've been shutting that down pretty hard, lately. You can pay them for it and it's still pretty cheap - but dunno if it's worth it for just 5Gb.
I have this plan on the Galaxy S3. Because I'm a cheap jerk. Best phone for you is whatever you want and meets your needs.
You'd have to root your phone to try tethering without paying for it - but it's not something I would count on since they are so quick to shut it down.

There's no tethering (plan available) on prepaid AFAIK (legally, anyway )

I'm on the $40 prepaid unlimited talk, text and and data for a work line. I have no issues tethering with my rooted phone for work. I'm running the cm10 hackfest.
I would never pay extra for the tethering. It's my data that I already paid for, I'll do whatever I want with it. Dunno if they throttle after a certain amount but I never go over 3gb

Thank you. Just bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 from Walmart. They made me buy a $50 card with it, said it was their policy with the S2 but I also bought a $30 card, cause I just want the $30 plan. He said I had to activate it with the $50 plan to start, but could change it after the first month, but did not force me to activate in the store. So it possible to activate from the start with the $30 plan?

Yeah I don't see why you couldn't activate it with a $30 dollar plan.It pre-paid.

I haven't paid in a couple months since i only get it when i travel to the US for work. I've had this plan for over a year. It is now the $50/month plan, I guess the price has gone up. I'm surprised my "old" plan didn't grandfathered in. I guess i'm switching to the $3/day since i'm only there a week or two at a time.

30$ unlimited is online only. Therefore you need to buy it online unless you get a rep and have sob story to tell them that you didn't know, I'd like the promo, etc/

What carrier is it for

Yeah, this plan is for on-line or WAL-MART purchases. You could try to activate it that way, but I'm not sure it will work.
You cannot switch to this plan (new activations only) so it needs to be from the start.

I have a Grandfathered Unlimited data plan, however when ordering the new phone I was forced to select a plan most similar to the one I have due to LTE 4G. Well it did say Premier Personal Unlimited Data so I selected it. I called twice and talked to AT&T reps before fully checking out online for the pre-order. I just now actually activated the phone and the rep said he did not have the clearance to put me back on the Unlimited plan so I would have to wait up to 10 days, though he said it usually only takes a couple days. He opened a case and wrote notes. The case supposedly will be escalated to the next tier of support to get my Unlimited back. For now I got stuck on 3GB. Anyone else run into this?

My understanding is if you wanna keep unlimited then you wouldn't be able to access the LTE side.

Not true at all. You can get lte unlimited. I have it. But they will cap you 5gb I think. I do have lte where I live so I would know. Granted I buy my phones outright so I don't deal with plans and all that bs. I know best buy can keep your current plan and pretty sure att.com does it to. If you were forced I would have canceled the order personally. Call att. If you did already select a new plan it can not be undone.

Ya when I got my SGS3 I kept my unlimited data. It was nice since it raised from Unlimited Data plans to where I am throttled at 5Gb rather than the 3Gb for my SGS2. Plus when I got throttled for the 5Gb I just had to change my APN to the huspa+ APN and get another 3Gb unthrottled. I am sure it will be the same here.
OP and future people what I have ALWAYS done is while I am at Walmart/Radio Shack and upgrading my phone I would call ATT during it to MAKE SURE my data plan wasn't changed in the first place. So far it has always worked for me this way.

So my AT&T plan is a good fit for me right now. I have DataPro 2GB (25$) and 1000 texts (10$). I get my Galaxy S4 in the mail and I go to activate it using some AT&T automated system online. When I do that my old phone deactivates and my new phone activates as expected. I give it some time to complete on the back end but after several hours I can make calls but I still can't text or use data.
I stop by AT&T on the way home and ask about what might have happened, they tell me that I have no data plan, and I have no texting plan. I explain the earlier events and that I was using this very data/text plan on my old phone earlier today. They tell me they can't do anything and suggest I call support. I go home and call support.
"Customer service" says no-can-do but offers me a 3GB plan for 30$ and unlimited text for 20$. This is 15$ more a month (obvious bull**** is obvious). I explain that this is unacceptable. When I chose to upgrade my phone I also chose (using their online pre-ordering form) to keep my existing rate plan. It explain that it even lists the two items on the new contract (which I had to dig around on their site to even find).
Finally after a lot of "customer service" bull**** where they fake empathy and try to just make you go away, I get transferred to the guys who get **** done...
Within two minutes the problem was fixed. Took me three hours wading through salesmen and customer service tards.
If there is some LTE limitation I'll upgrade to the 3GB plan, but as of right now it looks completely normal.

When I ordered the phone I clicked "keep current plan." When I set up the phone they took away the unlimited data. I just had to call and ask for it back.

This is my THIRD LTE device on the grandfathered unlimited data plan, it's not going anywhere as long as I keep paying for it! If someone "forces" you to choose, whether it is in store or online, then you need to find an alternative, and that usually means finding someone who knows what they're doing and not their first day out of training....

Just checked today, I am back on Unlimited Data! Woo hoo!

The best buy system was trying to do the same for me. I had her call and verify I was keeping my unlimited data and I was. Somehow that dummy removed our family text in the process though. So I went to my buddy at att to fix that and verify my data didn't change and it said LTE unlimited data...

Yeah they cannot force you off.... if you selected keep same plan and they changed it they need to fix it. At&t is trying really hard to get people off the unlimited data plan....I tell all the peeps I help to NEVER take it off (unless they really want to).... and that every time they speak with an att rep. to expect them to try and get them off of it..

I got my S4 yesterday at the local AT&T store and today when I went to check my account online I saw that as of next June 15 I will be moved from the unlimited data plan to the unlimited LTE plan. This happened with no intervention from me at all.

Yeah just coded different in their system.... They have to change it but still the same. Plan is like gold!! Lol

got my phone today from bestbuy 199+tax got it around to $260 :3 anyway
i was on unlimited on my SGS2 got the SGS4 said it automatically changed it to unlimted LTE. checked my account and this is what it shows
LTE Smartphone Unlimited Personal Add-On
all my other services where kept and no change in monthly payments.

How bad is the data speed throttling on LTE? I know ATT is bad for throttling unlimited data but just wondering what the speeds drop down to on LTE these days.
