I just left Sprint and came to T-Mobile and got the GS4. Sprint sucks. Spent 6 years dealing with their horrible data speeds on a smartphone. Not anymore! T-Mobile is a big improvement. Not sure if this Jump! program is a good idea for those who buy all the newest phones and then sell them on craigslist towards the new one. Doesn't seem like it saves you very much since you have to turn in the phone you currently have.
Well, if you do the math.....$99 down and $20/mo for 6/mo, and $10/mo for the Jump program, thats $279. $579-279 is $300. Yes, you could get more on craigslist if you wanted, but its better than most of the other trade in programs, and its very convenient. And that extra $10 includes insurance/theft protection.
So right now, I got the S4 in May and of course I have to pay it off. If I enroll in the program I don't have to pay it off anymore or what?

Yes... But I read you have to wait 6 months before the first upgrade. The payoff disappears, trade in your current phone, and buy at new customer price... With the monthly financing of course.

The question is: when does if start? It officially starts July 14, so does it apply only to new purchases after that? Or will they let you do it retroactive to a certain date. Also you have to have the insurance plan already, which I believe must be put on at the time of purchase of the phone.
I just read on T-Mobile's site: " JUMP must be added within 14 days of qualified device purchase."
Does this mean we are screwed if we got our S4 before July 1st? The program starts on the 14th.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
Sounds like it, but maybe you can call them on the 14th and plead your case.

I watched the full press conference and had some of the same questions you guys do. One of the things they said was that there would be a limited time opportunity for existing customers to sign up, but there were no further details given. So I decided to ask. The first person through customer service chat hadnt even heard of it yet so I asked in the forums. The only answer I got there was someone saying it was for all simple choice customers. But if you go here to the Jump info page toward the bottom of the page it says "Already a T-Mobile customer?" and has a link. When you click that link it takes you to your log on. After logging in it takes you back to that info page with the July 14th date. If it wasnt for existing customers I dont see why that would be on the "Jump" page.
Heres how I think it works as far as existing customers. When it starts on July 14th there will be a limited time window for existing simple choice customers that already have the insurance to be able to change their existing PHP insurance to "Jump". Since I am still within my 14 day period I made sure I added the insurance just to make sure I qualified. We will know soon enough, but my guess is that it will be available to us for a limited time, and only if we already have the standard insurance they offer now.

So if you have insurance like php. Then just add the 10 dollars a month. Or does it replace that and just pay the jump price instead of the insurance cost.

It replaces your existing insurance. So if your paying the 7.99 now its only $2 more to replace it with Jump. This covers basically everything that could break your phone, theft, loss, and adds the ability to upgrade up to twice a year. I just tweeted John Legere the CEO and asked about current customers. Ill update this if he answers.

This is true. But for me I'd rather sell on Craigslist and get a little bit more for it which I can use the difference, after paying off my eip, to put down on a new phone. Plus the $2 a month I'm saving not going with the program and doing the regular $7.99 insurance instead. But that's just me.

because i have called Sprint and I told them about this message(picture posted) and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about and said I will lose my upgrade April 1st..I also went to my local sprint store and the manager there said I would be eligable for my upgrade when the Evo3D comes out this summer..So that is why I am here because i've gotten 2 different answers from Sprint Reps.
I would edit that photo to get rid of your phone number. There are alot of pranksters here on XDA.
Yea sprint is doing away with the yearly upgrades unless you are a premium member or whatever it's call. Basically if your not spending a certain amount you lost it
Well that sucks...Will they let me use my fiances upgrade thats due in about 60 days(her actual 2 year upgrade, hasnt gotten a new phone in 2 years) for my number?...And I will just go ahead and use my current upgrade to get her a new phone.Does Sprint let you do that?

It's always been like that, the price just went up on qualifications. They're not "doing away" with anything.
My line qualified for an upgrade on 10/10, and I just asked tonight, and they said since I have already earned it, it will remain until I choose to use it. Sounds ideal to me, those that earned the privilege during the terms of the offer should be entitled to keep it, and for everyone else the terms just got stretched out longer.

Look like you WILL lose your upgrade.
I just found this page on Sprint's website.
http://premier.sprint.com/premierupdate/faq.html
Here's the part that confirms you will lose your upgrade.
If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 12-21 months from the last upgrade, the upgrade must be used by March, 31, 2011. Otherwise, effective April 1, 2011, the upgrade eligibility on that line will be changed to 22 months.

This is a bit misleading. Yes, you get the $75 upgrade after 12 months, but this is simply $75 off the full retail price of the phone. When you get the "$150" upgrade, you actually get the same pricing that a new customer does, including rebates. So, this ends up being more like a $300 discount.

I just talked to a sprint rep about trying to push my upgrade because of the changeover of the premier status from 1yr to 2yrs. I got denied, but I did find out about this buy back (or buy up, I can't remember for sure) program.
If you are within 10 months of your two year upgrade you can pay 75$ and they will reset your eligibility. So granted I can't get a phone now as i'm still 12 months out from 2 yrs, in Oct I can call back and tell them I would like to do this and they charge 75$ to your account and reset your eligibility so you get a full upgrade. It's better than nothing. I hope this helps some people that are looking for a new phone.
I called this number I think it's been posted in other threads to go right to a rep.
877-775-4886
From the sounds of it you should be able to call just normal customer care as well though.
Easy math for the upgrade:
The math is you have to be 10 months from your actual two year upgrade. So if you hit one year aug 1st you can't use this until oct 1.
or
after 14 months this will work.
so how does the math work.. if you were to get a say the nexus s? would it be that much cheaper?

Ya shoulda kept pushing to get your 1 year upgrade back so you could get a free (45$ activation) nexus s at best buy today. That's how I got my gf a free epic during their gaga for phones promotion. What is the point of buying up? A full 2 year upgrade discount is only $150. So you would still technically pay the same amount for a phone(that isnt free). I was told I could buy up for $45. subtract that from the full discount and my current $75 discount and they are only saving me an extra $30 bucks on a $500+ phone. it would be cheaper to pay an etf then sign a new contract or wait two months after a full upgrade and sign a new contract. This is just my understanding.

It's good to get the reset to take advantage of deal prices for upgrading to a new phone. For instance if you had an upgrade best buy was giving away nexus s for free today. think about it when the epic came out with an upgrade it was only 150 or something without it was like 5 hundo +, so I'd pay the 75 to save that much.

if you really really want a discount... did you guys know that the 2yr 1yr contract renewal price for phones is the same... & also the same if you were a random person who never had sprint... sprints "discounts" are a scam... everyone in the world gets the same discount no matter how long youve been or not been with sprint, so that being said call sprint & ***** to em about how youve been a loyal customer for however long & why does some random person get the same discount as me & your going to drop sprint when your contract ends & goto verizion or att or whatever... this is what i do every time i want a new phone & they will gladly give you at least an extra $75 credit toward a new phone or on your bill

So recently I ported to AT&T ETF free due to the employee discount change. Well my service with AT&T was so horrible that I transfered back 5 days later. Before I left, Sprint told me I could buy out my wifes contract to make her eligible for an upgrade, which I declined.
After porting back to Sprint, I called to buy out the rest of the contract and they told me she was already eligible and there was no remaining contract.

No, I don't think that's a screw up. You chose to terminate it because Sprint was in breach of contract. Once you did that you are eligible to sign a new one regardless of how long it has been since you signed the original one.
So you didn't even had to transfer. You could just call and tell them you want out of the contract and would like to sign up for a new one. That qualifies you for an upgrade too.

Legally speaking... it does. Because your first contract was in breech of contract. When you signed for the discount to apply to all or just 2 lines (whenever you signed), that was your contract. They changed it, hoping that you would not notice it in the 30 days. Therefore you can get out of your contract and get back into a new one, now knowing that the terms are what they are.
I put this in layman's terms, so my 'translation' may... suck.
But yes, legally, it's acceptable. Sprint would most likely just reset all upgrades on the plan before they would just let you leave ETF Free. Resetting upgrades keeps you.

I just order one myself and it says phone on 1 line with 309$ as the price and there was no amount beside the bonus line where you would usually have 500$ rebate applied against the 650$ if you took a 3 year agreement.
Moreover, I never had to fill a complete subscription form. So it's a pay and go price. Now I will only need to unlock this phone to sell it!

Actually you pay 10$ a month, it does include that total insurance program though...the caveat is that you still pay the down payment (say 99$ down plus taxes on a S4) PLUS the EIP of 20$ a month....is it worth the every six months upgrade? Maybe.
I have five phone lines and two upgrades available (plus I just upgraded in May)....not worth it in certain situations...

I thought T-Mobile was making things much more simple and straight forward with the financing for the phone. Now they've added this new option that just adds another complex layer, making it harder to compare plans from carrier to carrier.
I'm not saying it's bad, it just adds another variable to consider.
One more thing....
You have to turn in your current device (I'm assuming the one on the line you're upgrading) as well.
Meh.
As someone who has multiple devices on multiple lines and sells the oldest device before obtaining a new one.....
Not impressed by the terms.
Not saying it won't work for someone else, I'm just not impressed
