All, im coming from an x10 to the new GS2 and very happy for the most part!!
However, I do have an issue. When the phone is in silent mode (vibration) the wakeup alarm does not sound, only a vibration is felt. I have checked the option "no sounds except media and alarms" to no avail. Is anyone else having this same issue?
Hi,
How did you set up your alarm? Wake up alarms shuld be set up using Clock app, then Alarm option. Maybe you used Calendar app with recurring date of event which theoretically can work as wake up alarm too I'm asking this because Calendar reminders are vibration-only in silent mode which is much like situation you describe.
Regards
Krzysiek
In the settings menu, go into the sound menu and check the volumes out. There is a dedicated setting for alarm volume.

it's the best, it basically starts 5 minutes before from barely audible tones, and then the volume grows in intensity. it wakes you up gently.

How do you set the alarm to start quiet and over time become louder and louder? because at the moment i have it set to "briefing" and it starts really loud, i wake up every morning at 7AM with a massive fright and a WTF look on my face LOL

I totally hear you!!! Alarms scare sh1t out of me sometimes.
Mine is set to alarmType=Melody and "smartAlarm" enabled with settings "5 min, Morning". As I said, with these settings it will start 5 minutes before the scheduled time and gently wake you up with a nice calm sound. The intensity will gradually grow until you wake up or until max intensity is reached (I missed the alarm a few times even at max intensity).
How to snooze the alarm once it starts ringing? Only option comes is to STOP it. How do i snooze?

I one set an alarm (WM5 clocks and alarms) to 05:30 on my SPV M5000 and now I can't get rid of it!! I have removed the tick in the tick-box and even changed the alarm time but still my little SPV wakes me up every morning without fail  How can I stop this without doing a hard-reset? Any ideas?
Try using a notification queue cleaner, and/or if that fails, just delete the alarm's registry keys.
Make a backup, then go for:
HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Clock >
Then delete
0
1
2
Write back if it does/doesn't work.

Thanks vijay. I have deleted the alarm in the notification queue so hopefully that will do the job. I will see what happens at 05:15 tomorrow!!
Yeah, give me a call at 5.15 if it doesn't. That'll learn me.

Just to check this out: did any of you:
1. change a lot in the things in the Sounds and Notifications manager?
2. Put your own sounds in the system folder to use them in the S&N ?

yeh theyre in wav format ( i think thats important cuz i tried the same tones in mp3 and they didnt work) and theyre in the windows folder. let me know how it goes.
one more question: the reminders for calendar dont seem to loop or repeat, it just goes off once and thats it! is that normal?! thats not the case for the other alarms! can u try and let me know? im using the standard alarm 1/2/3/4 sounds..it flashes vibrates and sounds but only once despite having checked the " repeat sounds" option!

I had the exact same problem when i first got my M5000, my alarm was going off at 6 in the morning, and i can't tell you how irritating that was. I installed Pocket Mechanic and deleted it from the notifcation queue. It never came back until last night when another alarm did it to me, so i've brought pocket mechanic now so i can keep an eye on them!
I was adviced not to use the repeat alarm function, and run CheckNotification on a daily basis.

Well, its al this #@#$%%@! notification queue. I installed the latest I-mate ROM so I had to do a hard reset which gives me rest for some time.
The only (brute force) solution till now.
from now on I am even more concentrated to find out what triggers this problems.
1. Playing with [email protected]?
2. Soft resetting?
3. Battery drain so shut off without being able to save to that queue?
4. Programs like E-wallet or Listpro that write to that queue?
5. Agile? Let my Jasjar hang regularly so as in 2 or .
6. Too heavy/large sound files? Programs conflict cause they have to wait till those souns are ready? My Agile hung e.g. when Jasjar alert was vibrating an did not stop vibrating.
Huib
I have a similar problem - except that I can't turn the alarm off - I get no notification message coming up - just the alarm going off. I have to turn the volume off and then soft reset - this normally stops it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Okay.... this now has me annoyed.
Every night at Midnight my Blackstone wakes me up by switching itself on and shining it's bright screen in what is a very dark room.
If left to it's own devices, after it's obligatory 1 minute of inactivity it then shuts down.
However, I normally turn over, pick the bloody thing up and turn it off....... and try to get back to sleep.
It's annoying the hell out of me ~ especially if I've had a bad day in surgery and I'm totally pooped out.
I've checked to see if there is anything running and Activesync has been given the Fake Server trick (which I'm happy with seeing as I've been doing it on several PocketPC's over the last few years).
So.... what do you think is causing this guys....

My Touch (Elf) does this too. I assume it's just part of Windows Mobile and not the fault of the TouchHD.
This is why I go to sleep with the device face-down.

Unfortunately I can't leave the device face down as the alarm is set in a way that when you turn it over it terminates the alarm..... Thus it has to stay face up.

It might be a paging request from the network operator - to confirm that the phone is still on and available....
from galarm's web site:
"Windows Mobile has on some devices a strange behaviour: Although an alarm is successfully added to the WM notification queue (it's like a scheduler) it doesn't go off.
Searching the web gave me following information:
At midnight WM rebuilds the notification queue, therefore it wakes up for about 15 seconds. If the notification queue is too big or the device too slow WM goes to sleep again before it could finish building the queue for the next day.
If you force WM too stay awake for a longer time, it should successfully build the queue on at least more devices."
As everybody knows, there are three types of feedback which the Epic delivers to users (aside from the blinking light). They are: Silent (no sound or vibrate), Vibrate, and Sound.
Currently, the settings only allow for: Silent Mode, Vibrate Mode, or volume mode with vibrate.
This makes sense to me but what doesn't make sense is why we cant have all three in one option. We have to go into settings and change them every time we want to go from silent mode (then can add or take away volume by clicking side button) to vibrate mode (then can add or take away volume by clicking side button).
Instead the MOD I'm requesting is to enable the sound up side button to go from:
Silent to Vibrate to Sound Up
and Sound Down button to go from:
Sound to Vibrate to Silent
Is this possible?
Would any other users like this feature?
Thank you for reading and posting!
(Currently using Midnight ROM 4.2 BYOR)
If nobody comes up with a mod, you may consider using something like Widgetsoid to place a homescreen widget which allows you to switch between Sound/Vibrate/Silent.
i could swear this was how it worked when i was on DI18 Eclair. Ever since i upgraded to EB13 Froyo, theres a new button for silent/vibrate in the notifications dropdown next to wifi, bluetooth, gps, 4g.
now when i use the volume buttons it goes straight from sound on, to which ever combination of silent/vibrate is configured in the settings rather than toggling between vibrate and sound as well.
i have resorted to using widgets to quickly switch, but would love a mod to let the vol buttons do what im sure they used to do... (maybe im crazy and they never did this though)
I use extended controls. On top of the standard controls from the power widget that's our loaded into the rom I had an option for silent and vibrate and a couple other things. Honestly this widget is alot easier then the pull down cause off all the stuff I use it for

I would definitely like to see a mod to bring this functionality back. It is ridiculous to change something as fundamental as this, every phone i've had knew the difference between silent and vibrate and both were easily accesible.
Adding a widget works, but it is a clunky work-around and not everyone wants a huge power control widget or an extra button on their homescreen.

Also, stock-rooted. Brought up Now and said 'set alarm for 10:10 am'. Now says 'setting alarm' and gave me an alarm notification. Alarm went off at 10:10. Then I said 'wake me up in 10 minutes' and Now said, 'setting alarm' and gave an alarm notification for 10 minutes later. I could do this from the swipe up to google now or from the voice search icon I placed in the Nova launcher dock. Are you sure you have Google Now active in the Now settings?
And location services must be on I believe. That's so they know where they need to go to wake you up
I just tried 5 minutes and it sets the alarm. Also a web search result popped up for a second then disappeared.

System Language must be set to "English (United States)" in order to perform those voice commands.
I don't understand why, but this is the only language setting with working "wake me up/remind me" commands.

The weirdest thing about it
My phone's Google Now wins all awards (Rooted, Jelly Bean 4.1.2 by Bruce2728) of weirdness!
Everything less than 6 hours works! So
"wake me up after 6 hours"
sets an alarm
BUT
"wake me up after 7 hours"
does NOT work and just does a Google search.
For those of you it's working, can you check if it's the same for you? In less than 6, all rounded minutes OR rounded hours work.
More interesting observations:
Wake me up after <any non rounded minutes or hours like these above> goes to Google search.
Explicit alarm commands like "set alarm" and not "wake me up" like : "Set an alarm for after <any value less than 6 hours" actually adds the value to current time, but the same command for anything more than 6 (like 7) sets an alarm for that absolute hour, like 7 in the morning.
It listens correctly, but doesn't set correct alarms for non-rounded minutes or hours like "set an alarm after 1 hour and 30 minutes" or "set an alarm after 1.5 hours" sets incorrect alarms in these two cases
Wierd. Wake me in 6 hours sets the alarm for six hours from now, wake me in 7 gives search results exactly as you said. I can 'set alarm for 7 am' and that works.

Nice to know others are seeing the same problem. I had read somewhere that 6 hours is the minimum sleep you should take daily to still be healthy enough. May be Google doesn't want us to sleep more and do some work instead
Try this just for kicks -
Say "remind me to wake up in seven hours"
what happens?
Humm ... Very strange. Creates an alarm if I say "remind me to wake up in six hours" by adding 6 hours in the current time, but if I say 7, again says "setting alarm", but just gives me to the link to 'Set alarm' myself and takes me to the alarm app if I click that. Doesn't set any time itself !
Doesn't work for any hour after 6. What's up Google !!
setting alarm with google now!

Don't think you understood what I'm saying buddy, the volume check was already raised to highest point in the standard settings, I want to increase the incremental volume at root/build/development stage so it starts at 100% as opposed to starting at 15% then raising up slowly to about 70%, this is why short ringtones, notifications & alarms don't get heard
I read somewhere that the way the code is written the speaker goes into sleep mode??? Unsure if there's any truth in it or how it would do so but I'd like to turn it off or modify it and then test it to see if it works.
Any help peeps?

I don't know about a build.prop edit for it, but I know that if you used Xposed you should be able to find a setting to fix it
Everything i can find regarding this says your probably out of luck. Other solutions to this problem don't seem to work (Wanam, Dont Increase Ring )
This was implemented due to the device having front facing speakers, moto didnt want to cause hearing damage if you got a call while pretending to be on a call.

Does anyone have any insight what to edit in build.prop to remove the way the volume adjusts when receiving calls, notifications? As we all know its starts very quiet sometimes hearing nothing
Set my alarm this morning almost missed it as it was really low but volume was high in settings
Don't really want to download an app for it, would rather adjust and test it myself
Using latest pure rom

Interesting idea about the reason behind the "feature". Is this just an educated guess, or did the info come from Moto?
(I wouldn't think there are that many people pretending to be on calls, but maybe I'm living in a bubble. I also never would have predicted the selfie phenomenon.)
This file is one of the culprits in all the most recent Moto phones. This built-in feature of ascending ringtone is stupid. Moto calls it a safety feature to attenuate the sounds. Sounds great in theory. Poorly implemented. Wish they would just get rid of it. Seems only Moto phones have this "amazing feature"....*cough büllsh*t cough*
My Nexus6 has same problem. You miss many notifications because the first X.milliseconds is muted/attenuated.
It may also be adding to the crackling noise MANY people are having with ringtones and notifications. Apparently there is a confirmed fix in the next update. However, I'm certain the ascending ringtone will not disappear and will continue to annoy many. A huge oversight IMO

Link to a discussion on the official moto forums. Matt has replied to this and other threads with the " we don't want to deafen anyone" line. Just a forum manager, so who knows if that's motos official stance

This is right. If you're rooted you could make a backup and remove the file. To be safer you could just put zeros for all the values. That leaves the file intact.
