Alarm clock will not switch off!! - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I one set an alarm (WM5 clocks and alarms) to 05:30 on my SPV M5000 and now I can't get rid of it!! I have removed the tick in the tick-box and even changed the alarm time but still my little SPV wakes me up every morning without fail  How can I stop this without doing a hard-reset? Any ideas?

Try using a notification queue cleaner, and/or if that fails, just delete the alarm's registry keys.
Make a backup, then go for:
HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Clock >
Then delete
0
1
2
Write back if it does/doesn't work.
V

Thanks vijay. I have deleted the alarm in the notification queue so hopefully that will do the job. I will see what happens at 05:15 tomorrow!!

Yeah, give me a call at 5.15 if it doesn't. That'll learn me.

Obviously give columb a call as well!

On the other hand, if you switch off all sounds alarm will not wake you up AT ALL! That's why I was late on last Thursday 25 min...
Just forget to switch on sounds...
Cheers!
Chris

columb: don't you get the message box telling you the alarm won't sound until you switch on notifications?
I made my today plugin show an icon to show if the alarms are enabled, because I often forget as well (bottom right):

Why I can't sync over WiFi or why I can't sync with Linux? ((
Thanks!

i have the exact same problem with the alram clock!!! it goes off every day at 12 noon even tho i've removed that alram ages ago and done numerous soft and 2 hard resets!! its driving me mental plz advise people!! if a registry modification is needed how do i do it?? what software do i need to get into the registry?

Just to check this out: did any of you:
1. change a lot in the things in the Sounds and Notifications manager?
2. Put your own sounds in the system folder to use them in the S&N ?
Huib

yep and yep! guilty of both! the ghosts of the old alarms no longer haunt me however, everything seems to be working as it should for the past week or so. the only thing i did was install pocket mechanic and run its registry cleaner as well as cleanup the duplicates in the notification queue! hope this helps!

yeh theyre in wav format ( i think thats important cuz i tried the same tones in mp3 and they didnt work) and theyre in the windows folder. let me know how it goes.
one more question: the reminders for calendar dont seem to loop or repeat, it just goes off once and thats it! is that normal?! thats not the case for the other alarms! can u try and let me know? im using the standard alarm 1/2/3/4 sounds..it flashes vibrates and sounds but only once despite having checked the " repeat sounds" option!

I had the exact same problem when i first got my M5000, my alarm was going off at 6 in the morning, and i can't tell you how irritating that was. I installed Pocket Mechanic and deleted it from the notifcation queue. It never came back until last night when another alarm did it to me, so i've brought pocket mechanic now so i can keep an eye on them!

I was adviced not to use the repeat alarm function, and run CheckNotification on a daily basis.

Well, its al this #@#$%%@! notification queue. I installed the latest I-mate ROM so I had to do a hard reset which gives me rest for some time.
The only (brute force) solution till now.
from now on I am even more concentrated to find out what triggers this problems.
1. Playing with [email protected]?
2. Soft resetting?
3. Battery drain so shut off without being able to save to that queue?
4. Programs like E-wallet or Listpro that write to that queue?
5. Agile? Let my Jasjar hang regularly so as in 2 or .
6. Too heavy/large sound files? Programs conflict cause they have to wait till those souns are ready? My Agile hung e.g. when Jasjar alert was vibrating an did not stop vibrating.
Huib

I have a similar problem - except that I can't turn the alarm off - I get no notification message coming up - just the alarm going off. I have to turn the volume off and then soft reset - this normally stops it.
Anyone have any ideas?

[new release] VJEschaton

Ok guys, I said no more releases this weekend, but oltp asked for an app to hard reset, and Bartito wanted uptime, so here we go:
VJEschaton
This program is used to soft reset, hard reset, toggle display, toggle LEDs (possibly!) and get Uptime for your PDA.

Version 0.3 exe only. Launch the exe to find out what shortcuts/command line parameters to use.
www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjeschaton/vjeschaton.exe
EDIT: guys, an observation. Because of the way WinCE cab manager works, I can only make shortcuts with command lines if I install real .lnk shortcuts. However, this means they only work if you install to the default location. If you install elsewhere, please modify the shortcuts to reflect the new location
Version History:
v0.11 Initial release
v0.12 Minor hard reset update
v0.2 Various beta features like sleep, memory clean up
2009.03.13 v0.3 Added Blackstone poweroff and a load of other stuff
V,
Thanks man, very useful & easy handling too (again). Small addition: reset the soft-reset counter, clear cookies, clear PIE history, clear PIE cache, clear recent program list, clear all together.
This app. could really clean up a device like anyone wants to. I like to keep certain cookies, xda-dev eg, but ditch all the others. & cleaning up the cache is always useful. I noticed that Memmaid & others somehow clean to much, so I have to login again.
Anyway thanks & have a nice weekend,
M
VJ,
nice tool. Another great work.
oltp, I was thinking of clearing the startmenu, but yeah, why the hell not go all out!?
I'll try to get some new stuff added. But slowly. I'm spending this weekend fixing old programs first
V
V,
Take it easy, they were just some ideas. Not meant to be pushing you. Next time I think of something I'll wait a week before telling you . The WM OS isn't perfect & I'm still searching for the perfect add-ons, maybe a complete tabbed today-screen, instead of the small tabs from SPB plus including functions for hardwarekeys to switch tabs & tasks (but I think it exists already).
Shoot done it again ;-)
M
I hope VJSihaya will do some great things with the today screen.
However, if the research is successful, I will try to spin off some of the stuff into the normal Today screen... no promises or more detailed ideas for now
V
Do I see a sign 'Do not disturb' on your door? Yes I think I do. I'll leave you with your developments, there enough questions for a weekend work in the other VJ threads all over the board.
Cheers, M
Can u do it Vijay
Hi Vijay,
Thanks for all the Hard work done...But I request if u can do this simple request...
-U know that in our PPCs, if we have to set a Ringtone we have to either copy that file in WIndows/Rings or keep the file open in the phone..which is a memory consuming work.WHat I suggest is the Tones system followed by Symbian...in say any Nokia phone, wherein, if the supported fornats tones are in the \Sounds\Digital\ folder..the tone setter programme identifies it and these are automatically listed and can be set.
Bottom line. a Prog or Reg Hack which will allow us to set Rintone from a Folder in SD/MMC without using 3rd party softs as Photo Contacts,Ringo etc
Can this be done???
The Ring key in your registry tells you where the ringtones are stored. Just change the stringvalue directory to something else, like \Storage\Windows\Rings\
Don't forget the last \. & keep in mind that the sd-slot becomes disabled after some time & the ringtone won't be heard then. Better make them small (mp3) & store them in memory (internal storage might work too)
Cheers, M
Thanks oltp
V
I think I did not explain it properly...
What I want to say here that when a person goes to sounds and notifications...can we add an option as "Browse"..which will show all the audio files and folders and then one can select and customize...this will help newbies to easily set the tones...
I hope now I am clearer
M$ has made file explorer for this so you can use the set as ringtone option. It's two step, it's M$. Or some genius needs to build a new cpl for it, VJRings? Not sure wether PZP does this, but PPCPhone profiles does partly.
M
Probably could be done, but I don't really have the time to play with it right now. I'm bug fixing tonnes of old stuff first
V
hehe... cool stuff Vijay!

VJEschaton looks like it'll be a useful place to dump lots of little functions. When I get a bit more time I'll add some of the cleanup stuff Oltp suggested. For now, watching The Burbs with Tom Hanks.
You know, I actually slept and wrote code in a dream. Somehow it was for unlocking the universal. Wish I knew how the hell I wrote that. I'm starting to worry though
V
PS Buzz, yesterday I was one click away from making the "purchase" I pm'd you about. What do you think? Worth a shot?
hi ViJay,
...just checked your PM.
I think, that upgrade will not do...
anyway, you are so unbelievable productive... were you saving all that stuff over the whole previous year, and now just releasing it? ;o))))
dream about unlocking universal... right?
I was always getting such feeling, that i'll do something with the rom, ram or all those funny tweaks on hima, when I was on my way to work... and then I did.. like I knew it before, I mean...
so please keep dreaming about unlocking universal. you are on the way to do it.
buzz
That's the weird thing, unlocking isn't my area! leave that to the real brains
Don't know why I was dreaming about it. Have you seen the thread about the Uni unlocker on ebay? Suspicious.
Hmm - upgrade.. that's a shame. I think I'm going to start a "charity" campaign. So many hacks possible from there - I was thinking of another, assigning apps to the wired headset key like on the Treo... what do you think of the "campaign"?
V
hello vijay555,
i'm very agree to you for your support !!
i have tested your new release (only the uptime option)...
in my opinion, the uptime option don't work correctly...
i have sreset the device at 14:22 and at the 14:31 the uptime option shows: uptime: 0 days, o hours, 1 minute.
i have sreset the device at the 14:22, and after 1 minute i have disconnected the screen (clicking at the on/off button). in my opinion the uptime option only counts the time meanwhile the device is on.
i'm interested in count all the time intra soft-resets (if it is possible intra charges) ))
regards and thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's exactly right Bartito, uptime counts the time that the CPU has been on.
If you want to record time between soft resets, well you need an application that runs on \windows\startup, logs time to a file/registry, and then next time it loads, it compares these times.
Uptime just records the time the system is awake.

HELP!!! ALARM IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!

My alarm won't shut off!!! no matter what i do, it keeps vibrating and ringing!!! I've done everything short of a hard reset. Help please!!!
Please someone help me, i can't shut it off no matter what i do. I really don't want to hard reset.
Go and download/install memmaid (or memaid?). Check your "notification queue" and remove the alarm.
did you happen to update your rom and then do a restore with that backup prog?
Well i am on the new K-jam rom, but i didn't try to restore anything. This is just the first time i used the alarm on the k-jam. Everytime i soft reset it, it starts going off again, im back to using my Nokia 3100 until i get this fixed. I will try with the ?memaid and report back.
it happened to me before i believe the new start key was the reason for that, did you modify the soft keys??? if yes then you'll need to undo it.
in my case i had to hard reset
I have the same problem. Innotification queue (memmaid) i've the cause of the problem. Lot's of notifications like this one:
\\.\Notification\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0X0
(friday, 12 may 2006 - 8:30:09)
lot's of this with just a few secons of diference.
How this apeared i dont now.
Please help to stop this fuk?&% alarm.

I've got the same problem too with an MDA Vario.
Everytime I soft reset, the alarm (which isn't set) goes off repeatedly every minute or so. I have to fiddle with the alarm, turning it on and off, and I think this then fixes it (unless my actions are coincidental) until the next soft reset.
I did previously install and uninstall Skype for Mobiles, and that had some notification issues, so I don't know if that caused this problem.
Any methods of solving this problem greatly appreciated (or any news of when an officail MDA Rom update will be available).
I eventually got mine to cancel by removing smartskey and pressing the bottom left softkey. I haven't used it since!
I had a similar problem with mine going off every minute or two. In my case it was that the Active Sync had the alarm tone set to play each time it did a sync/update while connected through USB.
Just a suggestion, but check you've not got the the alerts set to go off for some random function.
Try check notifications. it will help

I used the Scary Bear Software "Check Notifications" tool to remove all "Active" notifications (about 13 of them), and I am still getting all the alarms (every 30 seconds or so)...

same issue here - set the alarm, it went off - but there is no freaking way to turn this thing off
There is once I got a multiple notification for my SMS.. and later I've realised that I had a software that enables repeating notifications for SMS. Try to recall if you have any software that enables you to change your notification settings (e.g. for alarm and notification) and see if you can spot any 'Repeating' stuff.
fixed
I had the exact same problems. I installed the latest O2 ROM 2.21.4.101 and the Alarm now works correctly, the calendar notifications work correctly. Also when you stop all running programs the Comm Manager shuts down without any errors as well.

Doesn't seem to work very well on Diamond... when I do a restart it pop ups when I'm typing my Pin code... and then The icon is hiding 'behind' TouchFlo .. so I cant get to it... and nothing happens when I try to start it in the Start menu...
And I cant chose any alarm sounds....

Ironically, I never heard of this program until yesterday and downloaded the previous version yesterday. It seemed call but it kept going off every 3 minutes. I said dismiss but it just kept going off so I uninstalled it. But it keeps going off, even though it's uninstalled. Thankfully it stopped for now, but I think it may happen again. How can it keep going if I uninstalled it?
Nice but I don't like the tray item. When launching the app for the second time it won't show up, you have to use the tray item. I use Throttle Launcher so the tray is hidden, which makes the app quite unusable.
SpoonAlarm 2.0
I think there are some issues with Diamond, a friend of mine already reported it's not working very well for him too.
I will check it out and try to fix the problem.

Have a way to link it to the taskbar clock, or the user can create a shortcut in whatever launcher they use.
Thanks.
So I think what I will do is to give it as optional configuration.
Will update you as soon as it is fixed.
Gil.
I too hadn't heard about your program until today - and it seems great, except for the tray icon...
There are many places you can allow the user to place the icon:
Tray
Control Panel
Start Menu Panel (main)
Start Menu -> Programs
If you could create an option to allow the user to create a quick access shortcut in one or more of those locations, then I think you'll probably make everyone's day.
Other than that, the application looks much nicer and more powerful than the default WM clock/alarm utility. Great job!
Looks good , like to see the update with a short cut to. Thanks for your hard work .

Possible to set multiple alarms ?
Not working
I was looking forward to this program but it doesn't work for me.
a- I can't use the tray icon. I NEVER look at the today screen.
b- I can't select an MP3. It doesn't show any.
I need to be able to run it from a shortcut.
I am hoping it will work soon. I'll even donate $10 if it works.
Thanks,

Currently the default one does and any alternate alarm program I get must at bare minimum, have teh same features as the default alarm, plus of course the addition creature features. So multi alarm would have to be there in order for me to use it.
I am happy with the default alarm to be honest. My ONLY grief is the lack of MP3 support for setting the alarm sounds. The SpoonAlarm looks good but if teh curently functionality is missing at all then it does me no good and I will stick with the default alarm. I just have to convert MP3 sounds to wave and make sure they are in the windows folder, a pain but it works.
Is there a way SpoonAlarm can map to the alarm icon (next to the clock) in HTCHome? Looks like a good basic alarm app though. A lot of these alarm apps have horrible looking UI's with non touch friendly interfaces.

Hey,
Love this program, it looks awesome..
Just a suggestion, can we edit patterns for alarms as like every other friday?
I have the same classes on mon/wed, and on tues/thurs, and then I have my mon/wed classes my first friday, then next friday I have the tues/thurs classes, etc.
Any way to do this?

Error
Hi
HTC Touch Cruise - "Unexpected error....... An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it can be found."
I've tried them all and they have all let me down. Most of them cause a problem with muting sound on the phone. I've recently pulled an old t610 sony ericsson out of the drawer which works perfectly - alarm every 10 mins for an hour 100% reliability.
Hope you succeed. Love the look of that snooze button
Error occurs when pressing playlist "add" button. I get details of the error but it is about 20 lines long.
Great work man!
I have been looking around for something like this. I have trouble staying awake after my alarm goes off in the morning. The maze idea is brilliant.
My main phone is qvga though and this works its just impossible to complete the maze because of the resolution. It should be as simple as downsizing the maze.
Keep up the good work!
QVGA does not work.. it is unfortunate.
I love the fact that it plays WMA files, as the most obnoxiously loud file on my phone is a track i made to be WMA. I originaly designed it as a ringtone, but have not been able to use it for an alarm though. now I can. maybe you should not fix the maze. it makes turning the alarm off impossible.
do you plan to have random mazes every morning?
will it have an arangable playlist or do I have to rename files?
will there be an included user guide for all of the features (which you have not included yet)?
will this sound off when the volume is disabled?
will it vibrate?
I guess the most important thing is that this program will not sleep when the phone falls asleep. otherwise I cant wake up for work. and usualy when that happens, i am late almost an hour
thank you so much for working on this project. I have been using a very old program called PocketAlarmMp3 which has stopped development over a year ago.
the one thing I love about that progam is it's ability to select repeat intervals for the MP3 you Re trying to play
(duration/ repeat rate 60s-Whole / every 3min-inf)
it is a very complicated setup in the old program, but has a lot of options and has been very reliable.
I hope to switch to yours soon.
would love to test a qvga version.
nice program! i missed a tool like that. could you please make the clock setting more fingerfriendly. so when tapping on:
--------
|//////| - up - set hour, minute, second upward
|//////|
--------
|//////|
|//////| - down - set hour, minute, second downward
--------
i also get the FormatException error. Also the Maze cannot finish on QVGA.
waiting on qvga......
an unexpected error has occured in galarmreloaded everytime i restart my phone or try to test or change a setting
Thanks!!
Hi Great work there, maybe you could team up/ get help with this other programmer who also made a G alarm software for HTC diamond
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412669
To keep you up to date:
- my alarm clock woke me up this morning ;-) so it works... great!
- I have to go to work now - I think I'll release next version with QVGA support and at least most of the bugfixes tonight (GMT +1)
Answers to your questions:
- Clock setting more finger friendly: Got it! Will include it!
- Random mazes: of course! or at least mazes with ascending difficulty. if you snooze you get a more difficult one... Propably there will be also other methods - not only mazes...
- playlist is already arangable (see the "up"/"down" buttons - make use that the "Random" checkbox is not checked!)
- User guide follows
- If the system volume is off, G-Alarms sound is off... I'll add an option if it should ring although system volume is off
- Vibration option will follow...
- Klaxon (the other alarm clock): Well, Klaxon is Klaxon and G-Alarm is G-Alarm... G-Alarm works also on other devices than the diamond and will have options to use tilt sensor or not... Klaxon was made exclusive for the Diamond
Thank you for testing it! You help me a lot!!!

Blackstone Switches on at Midnight!!!

Okay.... this now has me annoyed.
Every night at Midnight my Blackstone wakes me up by switching itself on and shining it's bright screen in what is a very dark room.
If left to it's own devices, after it's obligatory 1 minute of inactivity it then shuts down.
However, I normally turn over, pick the bloody thing up and turn it off....... and try to get back to sleep.
It's annoying the hell out of me ~ especially if I've had a bad day in surgery and I'm totally pooped out.
I've checked to see if there is anything running and Activesync has been given the Fake Server trick (which I'm happy with seeing as I've been doing it on several PocketPC's over the last few years).
So.... what do you think is causing this guys....

My Touch (Elf) does this too. I assume it's just part of Windows Mobile and not the fault of the TouchHD.
This is why I go to sleep with the device face-down.

Unfortunately I can't leave the device face down as the alarm is set in a way that when you turn it over it terminates the alarm..... Thus it has to stay face up.

I had this last night and it turns out it was a reminder for an all day item in my calendar. Because it is an all day item it reminds me at midnight. So, just make sure any all day items in your calendar don't have a reminder for them.

I have the same "problem" even without all day event reminders.
The phone wakes up every day at 23:59, and then does nothing...
(All day event reminders are usually (default) set to go off at 23:45.)

Interesting..... Well at least now I know it's not akin to just my device.
So, what's the opinions......

I could actually BELIEVE that if it woke up at midnight on the Weather tab showing the Full Moon.

this is a standard wm "feature". it's well explained in galarm's description of why the device needs the windows bug fix: the windows notification queue gets worked on at midnight on all wm devices...

Yes...... Do you have a theory?

Not a theory
Just test the midnight transition with and without it.

When you say with & without it..... do you mean with any alarms set?
If so that's going to be a BIG negative to G-Alarm.
It's my main way of getting up.
Beards
it has nothing to do with g-alarm or other alarms

Thank you but how did you come to this conclusion?

It might be a paging request from the network operator - to confirm that the phone is still on and available....
from galarm's web site:
"Windows Mobile has on some devices a strange behaviour: Although an alarm is successfully added to the WM notification queue (it's like a scheduler) it doesn't go off.
Searching the web gave me following information:
At midnight WM rebuilds the notification queue, therefore it wakes up for about 15 seconds. If the notification queue is too big or the device too slow WM goes to sleep again before it could finish building the queue for the next day.
If you force WM too stay awake for a longer time, it should successfully build the queue on at least more devices."
