Build.prop volume adjust - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have any insight what to edit in build.prop to remove the way the volume adjusts when receiving calls, notifications? As we all know its starts very quiet sometimes hearing nothing
Set my alarm this morning almost missed it as it was really low but volume was high in settings
Don't really want to download an app for it, would rather adjust and test it myself
Using latest pure rom

There is a setting for increasing volume for alarms and ringtone. Maybe that is checked. Look in sound settings for that.

Don't think you understood what I'm saying buddy, the volume check was already raised to highest point in the standard settings, I want to increase the incremental volume at root/build/development stage so it starts at 100% as opposed to starting at 15% then raising up slowly to about 70%, this is why short ringtones, notifications & alarms don't get heard
I read somewhere that the way the code is written the speaker goes into sleep mode??? Unsure if there's any truth in it or how it would do so but I'd like to turn it off or modify it and then test it to see if it works.
Any help peeps?

I don't know about a build.prop edit for it, but I know that if you used Xposed you should be able to find a setting to fix it

Everything i can find regarding this says your probably out of luck. Other solutions to this problem don't seem to work (Wanam, Dont Increase Ring )
This was implemented due to the device having front facing speakers, moto didnt want to cause hearing damage if you got a call while pretending to be on a call.

Interesting idea about the reason behind the "feature". Is this just an educated guess, or did the info come from Moto?
(I wouldn't think there are that many people pretending to be on calls, but maybe I'm living in a bubble. I also never would have predicted the selfie phenomenon.)

This file is one of the culprits in all the most recent Moto phones. This built-in feature of ascending ringtone is stupid. Moto calls it a safety feature to attenuate the sounds. Sounds great in theory. Poorly implemented. Wish they would just get rid of it. Seems only Moto phones have this "amazing feature"....*cough büllsh*t cough*
My Nexus6 has same problem. You miss many notifications because the first X.milliseconds is muted/attenuated.
It may also be adding to the crackling noise MANY people are having with ringtones and notifications. Apparently there is a confirmed fix in the next update. However, I'm certain the ascending ringtone will not disappear and will continue to annoy many. A huge oversight IMO

Link to a discussion on the official moto forums. Matt has replied to this and other threads with the " we don't want to deafen anyone" line. Just a forum manager, so who knows if that's motos official stance

This is right. If you're rooted you could make a backup and remove the file. To be safer you could just put zeros for all the values. That leaves the file intact.

What's up with the specs re: vibration?

http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Athena
It doesn't get any more obvious than that.
Thanks!!!! to the the guy who suggested recording another phone vibrating and using the recording as a sound to simulate the vib.
I do want my new advantage to actually vibrate, so I'm going to play with some low frequencies to see if I can get something that resonates with a hunk of hardware somewhere on the unit to produce soemthing tactile.
Other than a headset (I love my PhoneAlarm), does anyone else have any solutions to the lack of vibrating? Heck, my HP5555 vibrates, and it's not even a phone.
Creative ideas I like. Funny, or just stupid ideas are better!
hi
as far as i know, the point is that htc discard the vibrate feature because of the microdrive. and a proof of that is that a guy in a german forum dissasembled his athena and found a mountpoint and connection pins for a standard vibrating motor. like you can see on the pictures he put a motor of another mobile in, and it fits perfectly. the problem you wil have is to enable vibration in the software, and even if you manage that you risk your microdrive.

Hot damn, everything's there ready for vibrate, but they didn't include it?!? Idiots. They lost many potential sales with that decision.

Same with me, but I do
In short someone tells that he had to open his Athena to get some metal dust out of the speakers and found the connector.
Then someone else mentions that there already has been a discussion about this and that the vibrate feature wasn't included because of the microdrive.
Possibly interesting is the mentioning of the idea to include a flash disk into the successor of the Athena.
At the end there's some short talk about using a headset with vibrating feature.
Short: Nothing interesting going on.
Thanks for the summary. Any mention if he actually hooked it up and edited the registry to add vibrate to the ring sequence - to see if its still software enabled?

Correct me if i'm wrong...But doesn't some Nokia phone have the vibrate motor built in the battery, couldn't we use similar technology with a few programs and the design of this type battery to get the phone to vibrate? I mean I do have the Jabra BT8010 and it took about a month to get use to that thing vibrating on my ear, and even at times when I sleep it and forget that it's on, it's annoying enough to make me jump up and reach for my pistol...
Anyone know which registry key must be added/editted to enable the vibrate function?

He states that he just put it there to look at it (he probably means for the picture) and is fully aware that there is no software control for it.
Also was he reminded of his old 3210 and is missing the vibrating function in meetings.
Short: No, not even an approach
I would give up the microdrive for the vibrate. That's only thing I miss from my hermes and kaiser. Heck, the microdrive is not real realiable anyway. I have had to re-format it twice in 6 months.

This page describes the settings I know of. I don't know if there is another setting somewhere (or some driver needed) to enable the vibrate. I just know that the vibrate command must be in this key:
http://www.pocketpcaddict.com/forum...ngtone-vibrate-led-flash-characteristics.html
If you will instal HTC Home on Athena - you will have possibility to get vibrate sign instead of loudspeaker .
Maybe it will be solution
Wow. Nice to have something in English....

[SOLVED] Answer key always enabled at incoming call (HTC dialer)

This is a major issue with the HTC HD2 Tachi dialer v4.2621.1920.3221 (standard factory dialer)
During an incoming call, Tachi dialer will enable the ANSWER hardware key (which is actually not that “hard” to press).
Possible consequences:
1. Auto answer a call while phone in pocket or bag and never notice it (especially if phone in mute or if ambient noise high)
2. While taking out of pocket or leather case, if ANSWER key pressed and then END pressed, call will drop.
In other words:

[EDIT: SOLVED]
Solution alternatives for this issue:
Use Pocketshield and set Settings > Phone > On Incoming call > "Lock hardware keys"
- or -
Use In Call Lock along with tweak in post #39
It's been this way with all their previous phones. Of course they won't fix it because it's not a bug.
Yes, the difference is that in all previous phones you can use a key locking solution... but not here so far.
Considering the fact that hard keys are now not too hard, it could be a functional issue (not bug exactly)
While I wholeheartedly agree that this is utterly annoying (and it breaks my own application, InCall Lock), I'm 199% confident they won't "fix" anything. Because they just won't, and also because if they do it they will get even more support calls with complaints that the answer button doesn't answer the call.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556801. I haven't used it on my HD2 yet but it worked perfectly on my Touch Pro. It completely disables the hardware buttons during a call so only the screen can answer/reject.
That's a program I wrote and I know it doesn't work on HD2.

Are you planning on releasing an HD2-compatible update?
Whenever I figure out what the hell is wrong with those buttons, and if it's fixable, I will, because it annoys the hell out of me, too. No good news yet though - I don't know what to do at the moment. It should work, it works on all WM5+ devices except the Leo.
We also need proximity sensor tweaks, because the way it works now is just horrible. When you end a call using a headset the screen stays on. When you have an incoming call while using your headset it stays on during the whole call and remains on after that, completely unlocked.
This is definitely by design on HTC's part and as others have mentioned has been this way on all prior HTC phones, at least of the 4 that I have owned. Personally have have not had an "accidental" answering once from the hardware key, it still takes an effort and timing to push this exactly while the phone is ringing. I doubt this will be "fixed", your best bet would be to find someone here that is as concerned as you are about it, or possible a future app that might address this need.
Perhaps if HTC decide not to 'fix' this problem as they see it as "by-design" then instead they can just fix the fact the button ignores 3rd party lockers? Best of both worlds then..
Anyways I've dropped them an email to suggest such, one little voice I know but if enough people do similar than lots of little voices can sound quite loud..

Exactly. That is what HTC has to change. To just have the phone application to behave as all previous models do, so 3rd party applications can coexist...
Would very much like to see a solution for this problem indeed.
Goodluck to the ones with the skills capable of doing so.

Hmm, maybe 1.48 changes something in the way keys are handled. Nice to know. Does it lock both Send and End buttons properly?

Yes, like you have designed to do. But I will look at the configuration of my device. I have another app installed that traps my buttons. I will report back if I can break your app. Otherwise, assume that I'm perfectly happy with it.
(Btw. as far as I can recollect, the app also worked on my pre-installed 1.43 Dutch Rom.)
Fixed (more or less)
OK, here is your fix. Create a long_send.lnk and place it in the windows folder. After that your app. does more or less what it is intended to do.
The weirdest thing is that when the send button is pressed when the phone is called (and your utility activated) the "long send" command is triggered.
(Edit for users that can't recompile your program to let it behave as it is supposed to, copy the phone.lnk in the startup/programs folder to the windows directory and rename it long_send.
Hmm that's even more strange - I have an action assigned to long send press via a shortcut and the program still doesn't work. I had an idea about writing a separate tiny program assigned to short press that would replace default action but haven't gotten to it yet. Is anybody willing to test whether short_send.lnk works (I.e. breaks the send button functionality)?

If you are using the WM dialer or maybe Phonex or Inesoft phone then there is no issue. Issue is with Tachi dialer only..

[Q] Volume changes sporadically on AT&T Galaxy S5 - can I log changes?

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 bought through AT&T, and the volume (ringer/system volume from silent to vibrate to loud and vice versa) seems to change sporadically on its own. I'm unable to identify the cause. I put the phone into safe mode, and as far as I know, it doesn't change the volume on its own when in safe mode, so I have reason to believe it's from an app I installed. I currently have Volume Locker installed as a temporary solution. This problem never happened on my Galaxy S3 through AT&T, with no different apps installed after upgrading. I do not have any apps that change the volume profile.
Question: is there a way I can log (in real-time) volume changes and also the apps that put in the request for these changes?

I've never hear of an app like that, but it's most likely turning on in your pocket. The S5 has very high tough sensitivity so even in your pocket it can change things without you knowing.

I thought the same thing too, but I've left my phone completely alone, and it'll still switch sound modes on its own. It has to be an app.
Anyone have any ideas on this app business or logging? In Developer options, there's a setting where I can turn on OpenGL traces...could this possibly monitor actions? I have no idea how to use it and don't know what it does.

Solved: Block BT/Headset volume warning and other task automation w/Macrodroid

One of the things I was missing w/my S7 Edge due to the lack of root was using Xposed to avoid the high volume warning that annoyingly appears and interrupts increasing the volume after connecting to a Bluetooth device. My wife and son also wanted to never see that volume warning again.
My wife also wanted to also automatically turn off wi-fi when she arrived at work, and turn it on again when she left. (Privacy issue.)
I also wanted to set volume to mid-level for ringtones and notifications at work, then max them out again when I left.
We're doing all of above via Macrodroid, and it is such a delightfully well-designed app that I think it deserves some love.
There are a number of similar apps w/varying levels of complexity and capabilities. I own/use Tasker, for instance, one of the most powerful. The thing that makes Macrodroid stand out and why I like it so much is it's excellent designed, so easy to use interface, and the fact that it's powerful enough" w/out overwhelming w/options. Translated - I installed it on my wife's and son's phones and both were setting up their own macros in just a few moments w/little or no assistance from me.
Definitely worth a look if you'd like to automate some tasks....free for up to five macros, which should be enough for most casual users. Just not seeing that damn volume warning should make many happy enough to buy the full app even if you don't need to.
EDIT: See my post below for screen shots and steps for the macro to set volume to max on Bluetooth connect. Once you do that you won't have to manually increase BT volume on your phone when connecting to a BT device, so you won't have to see the stupid BT volume warning. You can then control volume normally via your BT device (car head unit, BT headphones, etc.).
Victory.
Enjoy.
For the BT warning, can you describe what you did with Macrodroid to solve the issue? Thx.
i cant seem to find a way to disable the volume warning with this app
The voume warning only appears once every reboot. Not that annoying really

You avoid getting the warning by using Macrodroid to set media and BT phone volume, etc., to max when you connect to a BT device. Since that is done in the background by Macrodroid at connect you won't need to increase volume, so you won't have to see/deal with any volume warning on the phone.
See screen caps.

Yes, must agree. Brainless monkeys cannot conceive situations that they themselves don't experience, and hence we get these nanny state brain dead quick fixes to complex problems. When I am driving and try to increase the volume through my car radio, I cannot because of this stupid message. I often have to increase and decrease the volume to compensate for the broadcast volume changes during adverts. It is legal for me to get my phone out and use it while driving. We are seeing the results now of the dumbed down education systems in the donkeys creating rules.

Got me on that one? I've used Dolby Atmos on other devices (Rooted) and it did the same thing? I think what when songs are playing, they'll register higher than half way and you kind of go off of that?
I've never really liked setting up Dolby Atmos, but once it's set up it sounds really good.

did you finally figure out how to keep it from sliding back down I am having the same exact issue.
Hi,
I have the same problem and done an extensive research about it on the web. There are 10 kinds of people: One who can set the equaliser settings like they want (even above the magical 50% mark) and those who experience the problem, that the sliders slide back to 50%. I belong to the latter ones and I'm really pissed off about that, because I bought the Phone because of its famous sound qualities and while holding the finger on the equalizer the sound IS amazing. But I'm not willing to do this every time I play music, so any ideas how to solve this issue?
Greetings,
Martin
PS: Wow, this site has change a lot, since my XDA Orbit...

Basically you don't have to use Atmos if you want good sound quality. Atmos is only made to be used with the speakers. It uses the secondary DAC, which is worse overall.
If you want good sound quality install Viper4ARISE.
P.S. If you don't mind a very high noise floor you can use V4A+Atmos+AK4490 patch together on a custom ROM. It's probably the best way to listen to MP3s even though the noise floor might be somewhat high.
