[Q] [MOD] Sound Settings - Silent - Vibrate - Sound - Epic 4G General

As everybody knows, there are three types of feedback which the Epic delivers to users (aside from the blinking light). They are: Silent (no sound or vibrate), Vibrate, and Sound.
Currently, the settings only allow for: Silent Mode, Vibrate Mode, or volume mode with vibrate.
This makes sense to me but what doesn't make sense is why we cant have all three in one option. We have to go into settings and change them every time we want to go from silent mode (then can add or take away volume by clicking side button) to vibrate mode (then can add or take away volume by clicking side button).
Instead the MOD I'm requesting is to enable the sound up side button to go from:
Silent to Vibrate to Sound Up
and Sound Down button to go from:
Sound to Vibrate to Silent
Is this possible?
Would any other users like this feature?
Thank you for reading and posting!
(Currently using Midnight ROM 4.2 BYOR)

If nobody comes up with a mod, you may consider using something like Widgetsoid to place a homescreen widget which allows you to switch between Sound/Vibrate/Silent.

i could swear this was how it worked when i was on DI18 Eclair. Ever since i upgraded to EB13 Froyo, theres a new button for silent/vibrate in the notifications dropdown next to wifi, bluetooth, gps, 4g.
now when i use the volume buttons it goes straight from sound on, to which ever combination of silent/vibrate is configured in the settings rather than toggling between vibrate and sound as well.
i have resorted to using widgets to quickly switch, but would love a mod to let the vol buttons do what im sure they used to do... (maybe im crazy and they never did this though)

I use extended controls. On top of the standard controls from the power widget that's our loaded into the rom I had an option for silent and vibrate and a couple other things. Honestly this widget is alot easier then the pull down cause off all the stuff I use it for

I would definitely like to see a mod to bring this functionality back. It is ridiculous to change something as fundamental as this, every phone i've had knew the difference between silent and vibrate and both were easily accesible.
Adding a widget works, but it is a clunky work-around and not everyone wants a huge power control widget or an extra button on their homescreen.

some quick questions...

1. do the headphones have a Mic? and if so, does it have button(s) on it to answer/end calls? can you do voice dialing with it?
i am currently using an IPhone 3GS where i can raise/lower volume, pause/play music and call people using voice control. just curious if the stock headphones can do all of this, or failing that if any aftermarket ones are available that provide these capabilities.
2. does any sort of Palm Pre styled application switcher exist? right now i can bring up this with a long press on the home button or spreading my fingers on the home screen, curious if this functionality is available on the N1/Android because it is extremely convenient.

In standard Android long press on home brings up a grid of the 6 most recent applications. Only icons though, no live view. And no closing apps from there.
Don't know an app like the one in your screenshot. I'd surely be interested if you or someone else finds / codes one.
1. N1's earphone does have a mic, you can next/play/previous music, and answer call. U cannot volume up or down using the earphone though. Voice cannot be activated using earphone, but you could hold the search button at home page to activate it
2. The app you show is just for the visual purpose. iphone does not have multitasking like Pre or Android, so why we need that fancy card slider anyway.
You can bring up the notification bar to switch between current opening apps

i knew about the long press on the home button from playing with the Android 2.1 Emulator. but i was hoping for something more aesthetically pleasing.
and yeah, the program in my screen shot is extremely convenient and aesthetically pleasing for switching programs. but i can imagine the pull down shade at the top of the N1 probably accomplishes all the same tasks...

are you sure voice search cannot be activated? nobody has added in this capability? that's unfortunate because it is really nice to use for making calls without removing the phone from your pocket. hell, with Google navigation you could probably use it for walking directions to somewhere as well.

my 3GS can Multitask, just poorly. even with the added ram (256MB) i can only run 2-3 applications at most before experiencing crashing since the apps were not designed with backgrounding in mind (for example, to play a basic game while running pandora i have to shut down Safari completely to free up enough ram for the other two programs..)
You can scroll through the running Activities/Tasks/processes with "AppSwipe".
Can be bound to a longpress on the search soft-button. Quite customizable too.

Is there an app to put power control widget in notification pulldown?

That would be sweet. Pretty much the only feature of my long gone jailbroken I*phone (sbsettings) that I miss was activating that screen with a swipe without exiting the focused application. It must be possible in android. Any info?
Quicksettings?
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
There is an app in the market called "Quick Settings" which can be placed in the Ongoing notification dropdown that is customizable to include everything on the power control widget and more.
I am a fan of "power strip", a great paid app.
Quick Settings is really nice. Thanks y'all.
FYI, I've also used NOTIFi by Sisedi Media. It's skinnable and has a polished look that's a little different from the normal android UI.
Try QuickDesk Beta. It's a single extra homescreen that you access by double tapping the home button. Can put any widgets or shortcuts that you can put on your home screen. That way, all you have to do is double tap your home button, use the power strip, then hit back to get out of QuickDesk Beta and you'll be back in your original app.
The MIUI ROM has this as a fixed element at the bottom of the drop down.

The amount of times i've wished I didn't have to return to Home Screen to toggle GPS / WIFI etc - this is the absolute perfect solution. If it had customisable entries where we could launch a task switcher - WIN WIN!
+1 hopefully.
Perhaps this thread should be moved to Andoid General for greater visibility?
Steve.
theres an app thats called "in app toggle wifi" or something where you just have to hold the search softkey for a couple of seconds. even better in that it is hidden.
A good alternative is quickdesk by ruqqq, I've set it to bring up its "screen" on home double tap.
quickdesk is awesome. Not only can use power control but any app that you want without leaving any application. love it
Just noticed that the galaxy tab has this too.

i'm just kidding, but i couldn't resist....
Yeah they need some type of way to lock it.
Theres an app called ring guard that reverts the ring tone volume when accidentally hit. It's pretty good because I used to hit out all the time.
If you don't like that then I suggest acquiring a case the protects the volume from being so easily pressed.

Riggs may be kidding but it's actually the truth. The volume keys are useful, why would you want them disabled? The best solution to your problem really is to just stop pressing them. I know the problem, I had my own issues with them... for about 2 days. Then I just stopped pressing them.
Don't downgrade your device, upgrade yourself

Thanks everyone for your replies, no I'm not holding it wrong but I am left handed and the volume rocker is always against my hand. When typing like I am right now I occasional hit the volume by accident. Also I have car holder and that always hits em as well, didn't have that problem with my evo so I was just asking a question. I appreciate the jokes because they are funny and I thank the only one of you all who actually gave me some good advice.

I use Volume locker - it still allows you to press the button, but does not change the setting until you confirm it on the screen. It seems to be the best solution sort of editing the text file on the phone that contains the button mappings.
Good luck
I use volume locker also by hourdb in the market...I can vouch that its a great app that does wonders...also comes with many fine tune settings to control many different scenarios depending on your needs.

Vibration strength in 2.3

Has anyone noticed that the vibration strength (on notifications) is stronger on 2.3 than it was on 2.2? Or am I crazy? After flashing JVH (with bootloader) it seems like the vibration motor is a lot stronger and a lot noisier...
Sent from a telephony device
Vib is set to Max!
It is becasue the vibration intensity is already set to its maximum level in JVH. On previous ROMs, it was less by two levels. You can change it in Settings -> Sound -> Vibrations Intensity.
I've lower it two levels as it was in previous ROMS.

I acutally find the notification vibration strength lacking as 99% of the time If i set my phone in vibrate and while im walking I cannot feel it unless someone is calling.
I noticed that, too. And my vibration strength in settings is at the lowest level.
I don't really care - it only shocked me a bit when I noticed it the first time with my phone lying on the desk...

Based on my testing that setting does not affect the vibration strength for notifications like incoming calls, SMS, etc.
Hopefully one of the rom/kernel devs can figure out how to put it back to 2.2 levels.

Yeah this is very very annoying as it now makes the home button a bit rattly, I've tried doing the screws up tighter, but to no avail, the vibration intensity is definitely higher & its damn annoying we cant change this to lower, any ideas?

Home button doesn't vibrate for me? Lolz.
Lag: Fixed, Voodoo colored, Voodoo sounded, Bloatware removed, Undervolted, Overclocked, Zipaligned, Odexed, Tweaked - Tapatalked
TBH the home button isnt the most secure, if you tap it lightly you can feel hear its not very well secured, it could also be the screen against the internals as holding the screen seems to stop the rattly noise aswell as just holding the home button sometimes, so annoying man, defies the point of enabling vibration as I have had to disable it, never used to be so intense.

Swipe Up From Home Button to Lock Screen -- Sharing what I discovered...

The same gesture that you do to get to Google Now can be changed to turning the device/screen off.
Just install this free app called "Screen Off And Lock": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
Then swipe up from Home (like you would to get to Google Now) and it'll ask you to set a new default:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Grant it permissions, and now, every time you swipe up from Home, you can lock your screen/device from anywhere! Great for those who don't want to overuse the power button, and for those who obviously don't use Google Now like that.
To get rid of it, just go to "Screen Off and Lock" app in your App settings and Clear Defaults (or just uninstall the app).
Just thought I'd share.
Thank you! I love the apps like this.

Bricked kernel supports both tap to wake as well as swipe to wake BUT battery train increases by about 2-3x on idle above having it off. It goes from 0.5 to 1% per hour w/o these enabled to 2-3% w/ enabled. These are both customizable (enable/disable) but be aware of the drain.
This is great for one handed operation when you don't want to reposition the phone.
Very cool, just what my N5 was needing!
Thanks for highlighting this app.
This app disabled the double tap to wake function of the bricked kernel. That is unfortunate, because having both of these running in conjunction would make the N5 a 1 handed notification checking, song changing device when its on your desk or table.
EDIT: Just kidding it was disabled for some reason. I had it set to reenable after start up...so I don't know what happened.
