I stalled visionary from akaskriller.com since it wasnt on the market. I installed rom manger, titanium back up. Uinstalled some bloatware etc... But how do I know if im temp or perm rooted?????
Uncheck "run on boot" option in Visionary, pull your battery, restart the phone and try running su in terminal emulator. If you get permission denied - you're temp rooted.
Ok km going to try it now

Manual method is soooooo easy I don't understand the desire to use VISIONary+ for permroot. Its not even real permanent root.
S-OFF is NEEDED for custom ROMs... so if you don't want to use custom ROMS, stick with temproot with VISIONary+
If you DO want custom ROMS and true R/W access, do the manual method. I see 0 point in using the one click permroot.

So if it reads "s-off" on the boot screen after reboot it's perm root?

Not really, you have have s=off and not be rooted. all s=off means is the security protocol will not check to see if the phone has been tampered with. IF you have s=off and you go to visionary and click "temp toot" then "perm root" your phone will be rooted until you unroot it. Since the security protocol will not remove the SU access.
I got this question but was not sure how to answer it. I understand that TEMP ROOT only sticks until a battery pull or a complete power cycle, and PERM ROOM via visionary r12 is supposed to stick EVEN after a complete powerdown and reboot.
Question asked was if you PERM ROOT via visionary, and then remove apps via titanium backup, does it also PERM remove the app from nandlock? In other words if the perm root is REMOVED via visionary, and then you power cycle and reboot, will the DELETED apps come BACK?
Thanks.. I wanna make sure Im giving out CORRECT information.... I have only perm rooted a htc hero and when I removed APKS from it after rooting, they were gone FOREVER, but I am not sure about nandlock devices.. thanks
Hey all,
In addition to the first question,
if i temp-root my HTC Desire HD, and then do a powercycle.
would my free-but-not-really-free-applications still run?
But we are no longer nandlock?

If I understand correctly, no they won't come back if u r perm root

If you paid for your apps you would not have this concern...
If you temp root with visionary then uninstall the apps with titanium back up, they will return after the battery is removed. I tried it I was having trouble perma rooting and my apps that were removed came back after a battery pull. But after I got s-off the apps stay uninstalled.
So I rooted my mytouch 4g a few days ago with the s=off s=on thread
And some my 4g stopped working and the phone has been acring weird
And its still s=off but the superusers thing is missing and it wont
Let me get su in te so can anyonr please help me and
It says im rooted soooo someone please help
Re-root with same steps you did at first.

Do I det the file off my sd card. I have tryed with out det and it said I was already
Rooted?
are you still running stock rom? if so download rom manager from the market, install clockworkmod and flash a cutom rom. if its going to be a froyo (2.2) rom download and flash clockwork 3.0.0.5, if it's going to be a gingerbread rom (2.3) download 2.5.x.x or follow a guide to install 3.0.0.6. root doesn't play nice with stock rom that's why usually when you root you flash a custom rom fairly quickly afterwards.
Hope this helped
Nic
You can also get superuser off the market.

I assume you're using visionary to temp root and permanent root. if root doesn't stick the first time, keep hitting temp root and then permanent root in visionary. Try that. I can tell you brief step by step to get ultimate permanent root and sim unlock but you might go crazy just by reading lol.
Just go get superuser out of the market again. Then you will be able to su in terminal emulater again.

aight, I tried searching, and the few threads that mentioned this, was for full rooted phones... I'm on stock sense, permarooted using VISIONary+, etc... I got the OTA update at 12am, tried to do it, and the phone locked up on the screen with the phone and a red lightning bolt... did a battery pull, did the "unroot" via VISIONary, and the phone works fine... am I going to receive the OTA update again, or should I DL the zip file from the other thread, put it on my SD card, and power up + volume key, etc... pretty much, any help or suggestions is appreciated... lol

Impossible. You must not be truly perm rooted since rooted phones (even those running the stock ROM), don't get OTA updates. You must have TEMP rooted with Visionary. The only way to truly perm root with Visionary is in conjunction with the root.sh script.
i didn't edit any script past what visionary does... it's probably the equivalent of a temproot, but I don't have to redo it every time I reboot... I haven't touched it in months... I used the unroot function, so I'm not sure if the "run visionary.sh after root" or the "set system r/w after root" were checked... I know jack **** about this stuff, that's why I'm here... lol
this means youre not rooted. so if you want the update just walk in to a tmo store and have them update it with their sd card update.
That's funny.. my superpower, shootme, and TI backup are working... like I said.. I didn't s-off root my phone, but I do have SU privledges

Somehow your temp root is sticking after a reboot. Superpower? It's called Superuser. Sorry, but I LOLed at that.

SU is stuck too, but the app is called SuperPower... it's a battery management app, but after reading further, root isn't required, just recommended to use all of the features

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I searched up and down XDA and google for a solution. Here is the deal; Im trying to root my phone and Im having some issues. Im getting unknown user root in Terminal when I try to run the commands from this thread.I have both versions of Visionary and I believe I have temp rooted the phone. This is where it starts to get strange. Superuser.apk is installed, but Im never prompted for SU permissions. The only app that requested it was Visionary when I tried the permaroot option. Also, I got the system to be r/w via visionary, so I tried to delete some bloat. I used root explorer to do so. But the apks I deleted are still in the app drawer, and after reboot, are still in system/app. Im really super confused by all of this, and hope you guys can give me a hand. This is a little bit different then rooting my vibrant lol.

I still get unknown user root in terminal.
Go to theunlockr.com and find the mytouch write ups there. They are root.sh method and garanteed to work. There both how to gain root and s-off write ups there.
Its what I used and is super simple. I've rooted countless mytouch with the same write up.

Posting here the exact step and command that you're typing when receiving the unexpected response would be the first necessary step for people to help you.

Do you run Visionary+ before typing "su" in Terminal Emulator?
Does it complete successfully?
Can you try to run any other root program (like Titanium Backup) to verify that you actually have root access?

yes
yes
and I tried with setcpu, no root was detected.
Try another version of Visionary+, because the current version doesn't root you.
Make sure that you are indeed on 2.2.1, because if you're on 2.3.4 - Visionary can't root at all.

I had the same problem last week when trying to root my replacement phone after downgrading it to 2.2.1. The visionary app that I used before didn't work this time. I had to download it again and this time it worked. Before deleting the current visionary app make sure to clear it's data prior to uninstalling it then reboot the phone then try again. That worked for me!
Since you've already tried rooting it with so many methods, I'll suggest you restore the phone to factory settings and start over.
