Port HTC chacha android OS to HTC Snap? - Dash 3G, Snap General

I know that this question has been asked in the past… However… now with HTC chacha released in the market with an android OS.
I wonder how high is the possibilities to port android to Snap now? In terms of buttons i believe snap met the "4 buttons" requirement for android. Not sure about the processing and other hardware compatibilities.

Hardware capabilities are a constraint. There has been some attempts with non touchscreen phones as the excalibur, but projects have been stopped because new devices are out weekly.
I will move this to general forums btw.
Cheers,

Not possible, Google android needs a Touchscreen to operate it, The Maple/Snap/Dash Doesn't have one........sadly

What about using it on the SE Aspen?? It is touch screen!
It also is 240*320, which is also just like the HTC ChaCHa or the Samsung Galaxy Pro. Can someone PLEASE port it?? To use with Haret perhaps, as they can be used with other resolutions.

Yeah I guess the Aspen can Handle Android, but I guess it depends upon the type of CPU, and if anyone's willing to port it.
Damn, I wish I saw the Aspen before I saw the Maple.

Yes.. The SE Aspen is a good candidate for an Android. It has a good cpu too. the msm7227 600mhz

New HERO device - Why?

Why doesn't HTC make the Android OS available for the Blackstone? They just released the HTC Hero (very cool video as well) here:
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/hero/gallery.html
and the hardware specs are almost identical as the Blackstone -
HTC should make the ROMs available without direct support and let the XDA community keep it going (for those who want away from WinMobile)
I LOVE my Blackstone (especially with Dutty's ROM) but would prefer an Android based device if possible.
Maybe we should petition HTC to let Android loose for the Blackstone device (at least have access to the Hero ROM for porting)
What do you think??
Thx,

I don't think a petition would make much difference, people will still go out and buy HTC devices, so why should they change?
Also, HTC are aware of sites like XDA and know it would only be a while before a version compatible for the HD was created....so why should they do it?
I'm with you though. I wish the support HTC provided for existing customers equalled Apples who offer free upgrades etc
Android on Touch HD
If the specs of the HD and Hero are so similar, then surely it is possible just to port the OS over, as is? It is Open Source after all. It doesn't need HTC's permission for us to put it there. And as for support, surely the Android community in partnership with XDA-D would be enough?
porting a rom from a device with 3 times as small native res would be some feat
Hello,
first of all, I am new here and must say - really great work here!
Touch HD vs. Hero:
OK the specifications are almost the same, almost! Hero has multitouch, this is a step against Touch HD! Touch HD has the better resolution, if I am not wrong.
Windows against Android (inc. Sens): If I look on the new Hero product tour on htc - great - I want quite clearly Android! However, I am confident that this will be available on Touch HD... sooner or later, official or unofficial!

Unfortunately there is a slight flaw with that. The new device creation along with inherent new OS and/or Software allows companies to diversify their wares to a much larger extent than Apple. Whilst Apple, as I agree, manage to keep their users up to date with the latest and greatest they produce, the breadth of what they produce is sadly lacking.
It's a trade off and as anything comes down to money and a business model.
it's not hard to figure why
its a business and about making money

HD mini meets Android

HD mini's Display is hVGA,
can someone make a HaRet porting htc Legend's android 2.1 and sense UI to this device when it was entered the market ,
is it possible?
I love HD mini,I can't afford LEO and Blackstone
Why don't you just buy an Android handset?
If you're in it for a small Android handset, may I suggest the Xperia X10 Mini, the name is something like that, when it's released?
Oh!
I love both of android and WM
I think it is possible to put android on HD mini
I like a phone which can DIY
flashing ROMs or Installing programs
Sorry, but Android sucks. Google even more.
If I offended someone with this. Then don't mind, just think.

I really like HD mini, as well: the compact dimension is really attractive, and I think it's a good comprimise between price and performance. My only doubt is that, as we already knew and as someone already posted, one of the main problem of the HD mini is the OS: I agree that developers will jump on WM7 and the device could be already obsoleto soon.
So, may say that HTC 'should' meet Android on this device to increase the market? Won't be a good opportunity for them since Android's market is growing? I don't mean now, but it's gonna be cool if they will realease a new Android's ROM, when WM7 will offcially be out.

Guess little chance that HTC will make an Adroid Rom available for a WM phone......they rather sell a new phone.....and an argument not to do this could be that when WM7 takes longer (not unusual with Microsoft......).....the HD mini has a longer lifetime and they will sell a few more......HTC has a phone line up where adroid adresses another market than Windows. They will not mix these.
As in many cases an android Rom for HD mini needs to come from XDA community.....
I think with the release of the HD Mini's twin android brother, Gratia, which has the same specs the mini has. a port should be easy to make, I guess. I'm not a developer but I think it's possible
First for realization Port android, it is necessary to crack the loader hdmini
(HSPL). While it does not happen, even to think about android on hdmini is not necessary!
well it wouldn't hurt to be a bit optimistic

HD2 will NOT get an update to WP7 - confirmed at MIX10!

UPDATE!! Looks like this was not true and there will be no WP7 for HD2 at all.
There is still hope, you can help deciphering & hacking WP7 image:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647138
(if you really want WP7S on your beloved HD2, for me this whole new OS looks more like EPIC FAIL)
Hi,
I have just got an 'inside' information from a person close to MIX10 and I think it is pretty legitimate.
HD2 is going to get WP7 update, but in a bit different way that you may think. Soon after the conference MS will distribute unfinished, pre-release WP7 image that will be intended for devlopers, so they can test their apps on real hardware before proper devices are available (in the end of the year). Obviously because HD2 is the only device at the moment - and will be for a long time - that meets hardware requirements of WP7, this image will be intended for it.
It is still unclear if final, 'production' WP7 version will be released for HD2 when new OS is launched, but even if that is not the case, I am sure that chiefs will be able to somehow mix both versions together
According to my source this will be announced very, very soon at MIX10!
We can only hope i suppose =/

Makes pretty good sense, actually. It fits with all the 'wait for MIX10' answers to questions about the HD2 right after the WP7 announcement in Barcelona.

lol WP7S SUX BIG TIME...
no multitask.. what a joke microsoft
May just be me but the WP7 posts are getting a little bit boring and shouldn't they be in there Windows Phone 7 Series forum? Rather than having multi threads on essentially the same things.
Plus we get to buy all our apps . . . again.
Let's hope for a port anyway, whether official or not...
I'd like to believe you, but the MS devs were raving about the emulator that comes with the Phone developer tools... I dunno. Seems iffy but the existence of an emulator does not preclude the HD2 from getting a 'MIX' build - after all, you need to have the emulator around for a variety of reasons, namely the HD2 won't be available forever
im also watching mix10 and as far as i remember i heared somthing like "all of you who will have an wp7s device at the end of the conference".
could be the special dev-phone, as some folks guess, but i think an hd2 rom is the easiest and the most logical solution.
So i "guess" its possible. and by the way, i excpected silverlight for mobile for months and now its there and i like it.
Well these are the hardware specs, we don't meet the 'flash' space unless it counts SD.
I can't find any info on the Snapdragon GPU specs to see whether its DX9 or not!

Those hardware specs are basically the snapdragon specs with some ancillary stuff. Snapdragon includes the AMD z430, based on the 360s XENOS. Most confirmed WP7 devices are using snapdragon thus I expect the z430 will not be left out as far as directx9 support goes. It supports openGL es 2.0 so it has a unified pixel and vertex arch. I really don't think we are going to get an official port. But based on those specs, a hacked port doesn't seem unlikely at all.
PS does anyone know the hardware touch point limit on the HD2s digitizer?

these specifications are higher than hd2 specifications (impossible port)
Hmm, so these are the official specs?
From what I have understood while searching info about the Nexus One touchscreen issue, HTC has used the ClearPad 2000 touchscreens in their devices till now, which have only 2 finger limit. The ClearPad 3000 has a 10 fingers limit.
I don't know if the HD2 has the same ClearPad 2000 or not, but if it does not, that is one thing missing right? (correct me please if I am not right, but I think it says 4 finger is the minimum requirement)
Second, it says 'camera button required' from what I think to have seen. We do not have that.
Third, 8 GB flash... again, don't know about that.
Anyway, looks like it's MIX10 and we still do not have an official answer on if the HD2 will get 7 Series OS or not. I'm fine with it... and I think my future Desire is smiling as well
Anyway, 7 Series looks good. They did give us some nice new info about the OS.

we are fu**ed (hd2 owners ) with these specifications ,no way we could get it nither officia nor leaked , most of the specifications are not included in hd2 ( camera button , direct x9 , 4 point multitouch ,etc )iam so sad and disapointed my new toy is fuc**n old now wtf. what a short aged device ,i will go for desire tomorrow inspite of the big loss in money

[q] webos 2.0 ??

So, What are the possibilities of getting WebOs on our HD2s? just a question cuz i cant beleive how amazing our phone is...i mean WM7, WM6.5, Android, Ubuntu what else can it run??? hehehe
I would also love to see that happening but I think the chances are pretty slim, at least not anytime soon. The main obstacle is the different hardware (HD2 vs. Palm Pre) and then there is also the lack of interest. We live the Android fever now and WP7 is already at the door...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
the HD2 can run WebOS, but if i'm wrong i do not think that WOS is open source, so we can't try it.
It's not about open source or not, it's about hardware differences, lack of interest....like the poster said above.
WP7 is not open source.
i was thinking of this as well... But it very unlikely to happen since Drivers would need to be created for WOS, and like its been said Everybody is waiting on Android NAND and as well as WP7...
Maybe once this is all done then maybe if the right people see an interest in it then prob
I wonder why folks in palm and hp never thought of that, the main reason palm is dying is simply because of their ugly HW design.
Hd2 with palm os will be one of the killer hp
A Meego port will be more likely. Meego is an os being developed by nokia and intel. It will be designed to have multiple versions including netbook or handheld. It will be used on lots of different hardware. The devs who ported android have already mentioned meego as well.

[SUGGESTION] porting another OS's to X10

Hello everyone.
I saw here on XDA forum that have been ported many OS to HTC HD2: WP6, WP7, Linux, Android, etc.
According to what I could check, the hardware of the HTC HD2 is quite similar to the Xperia X10 - same processor, chipset and GPU.
I know that is not an easy job porting an OS, but it would be interesting to see running Mango on a X10... at least I find it interesting.
Maybe some cheff interested in this challenge.
Some info links:

Linux porting to X10: BackTrack and Ubuntu
Until bootloader is unlocked, you can't do anything. About ubuntu can port to X10, it's because Android is a part of linux, base on it, and kernel is linux too.

True. Even if we could unlock the bootloader, it would be incredibly hard work trying to port other operating systems to the x10.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
to add what the others have said; while the x10 and hd2 are similar, there are circumstances that make it more difficult to port wp7 to the x10.
I might be a little off, but i hope the general idea gets through my piss poor way of explaining things, lol. The HD2 came with WM6.5 and the drivers for WP7 are similar enough that porting WP7 was much easier. In regards to Android, HTC sold an Android version of the HD2 so that huge amount of work (drivers) had already been done.
While the X10 has a similar chipset, cpu, gpu; it has a different radio, digitizer, screen, screen resolution, bootloader process, proximity sensor, speaker interface, accelerometer, gps (maybe), camera and who knows what else? And considering that most of SE's differences haven't been used in windows mobile before, it would be hard to find compatible drivers - writing the drivers would be even harder.
Kinda OT... it may be possible to port WebOS to the X10. I bought an HP touchpad and while I haven't received it yet, i've read that the kernel in it is pretty much Android ready. Parts of WebOS would need to be rewritten in order to use the correct drivers. But then again, I've yet to look at it in depth yet.
