New Samsung video showing TouchWiz - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Skip forward to 2:18 to see what TouchWiz will bring us. Can't wait!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlLP3RXkmUQ
Edit: Correction, they start showing off new features earlier. Probably should just watch the whole thing from the start.

Doesn't it start from 1:30 or something? I see new settings panel with new colors. Looks NICE!

Not sure if I like the whole colorfulness samsung always brings to TW. I like the sexy black and dark blue of honeycomb.

I'm up in the air on if I want TW or not. it has some nice features, but I'm worried about the overhead that may slow down the tab a bit.

err why does this belong in development ?

I was wondering the same thing, but I didn't want to start a huge argument like always happens when threads like this are put in the wrong section. A moderator will move it sooner or later. Until then... I guess we could still discuss it

Because it shows of features of the next update. I was debating if I should have put it under general but I figured if it got under someones skin, they could just report it and a moderator would move it.

What is truly funny (or perhaps sad) is that a new thread started in an incorrect location on an internet forum would actually be enough to "get under someone's skin". Nothing makes me laugh more on these forums that those people.

I agree with the posted that is torn between TW's nice features and its less than appealing color scheme. Overall, I'm looking forward to it though. Will devs here on XDA be able to take TouchWiz and make custom TouchWiz-based themes/ROMs?
Speaking of overhead, I have a quick question that probably doesn't deserve its own thread.
I have tried everything I know to stop auto-run processes with a bunch of apps. Obviously, killing an app is almost pointless, as it comes right back. But I've also used Android Assistant to disable certain apps autorun ability, but it seems to be completely ineffective as they just load anyway.
Some of the worst offenders are Wallpaper Wizardrii, Wefi Connect, and News Republic. Both Wefi and News Republic began running themselves with autorun before I'd ever opened either app.

I actually LIKE the light and fruity color scheme

Can't wait for the release. Hopefully it comes soon.

I'm excited for this as well. It doesn't seem overly intrusive, but that is left to be seen. I sold my Tab for a nice profit after purchasing one at the pre-release in NYC, but I'm hoping to get another shortly. Just looking for the right price.

Yeah from what I can tell, it looks like its not a totally overhauled and skinned OS, which is refreshing, but rather the stock HC with some actually pleasant looking enhancements (loving the notification area with toggles!). Of course I'll still nandroid before running the update in the event that I don't like it for some reason.
My other concern is that it does sound like the additional functionality updates (USB host, etc) are bundled in with this TouchWiz update, though needless to say its a guarantee that within days the XDA community will have picked it apart and .zip's will be available for those who just want to add the new functionality minus the TouchWiz

a bit disappointed with Vibrant development and accesories...

I thought by now we will have something good and yet there isnt a single case that i like, a back cover, or a holster.....
and the development forum is filled with bunch of lag fixes and roms (2 roms) that are not even as good and stable as stock.
no word on froyo yet, media hub is crap, etc...
With worldwide release i really thought this will be moving with speeds of Nexus.....I guess i was wrong. Its just horrible that they decided to release 5 different variations of Galaxy S. Different bodies, and even different hardware, and therefore different firmware as well

It will come. There is a major learning curve since this is much coherent than the htc built phones. As for accessories yeah.. But it's only been 2 months, be patent..
i too thought that dev would have jumped all over galaxy S phones right away. i know there is a learning curve from htc phones, but i though they would be all over these as they all have the same basic hardware.
I do appreciate the dev who are here and helping and working
i wish for more accessories too
Honestly, this is the first android phone I've owned, I am quite impressed with the activity by the devs. There seems to be a lot of effort into designing tweaks that will lead to some quality changes to our Vibrants after the bugs are worked out.

i would, but unfortunately i am not a developer. and by adding and removing apps from stock rom back and forth is not really development. i do appreciate the lag fix, its working great so far.
Op please sell your phone, buy an HTC, and have a coke and a smile... quit complaining about one of the best phones in the WORLD market... if still unhappy there is always iPhone.... bye bye...
And I wish moderators here would trash these stupid waaaah waaaah threads.... your complaint is useless unless you are willing to develop, hack, beta test, or otherwise move development along... and to the point of lag fixing and deleting bloatware, YOUR WELCOME FOR THE FREE DEVELOPMENT YOU UNGRATEFUL COMPLAINER!!!
If you really think that all the devs are doing is adding and removing apps then maybe you should just wait for an ota update.

if these points you listed are so important to you, why did you buy the phone before these things came along?
If and when I am looking at buying something new I do research before purchasing a product so I know what to expect. It sounds like you assumed these things would be ready day 2 after launch and now that they are not you panties are in a twist.
If this is really the case go look in the mirror and there you will have the person to blame for your aggravation .
I like the phone. and i do think it the best phone on the market (at least for me). But I would probably get Droid X if it wasnt so big.
After some mods to phone, i am very happy with it (except for back cover and 2.1, well and the fact that compass just doesnt work at all), gps works, launcher pro plus is a killer, lag fix works, battery indicator fixed, and obviously removed all crapware, oh and tasker app makes word of difference too.
Still New
Am I one of the few that think 2 months is still early in the development game?
The Nexus One is sold as a developers phone, so it should and is supported as one.
I think the developers have lives and a real job. Making this a fun hobby for most of them. So just relax, be patient and before you know it you will have every tweaked/hacked/themed ROM available for your flashing pleasure.

Are actually retarded, so you must make the same stupid point over and over?
We buy stuff when we need it -- like when the old phone breaks, or a plan needs to be renewed.... Most people research a bit, then weigh the pros and cons and take the plunge.
After some use, everyone finds things they like or dislike about their purchase.
But really, why shouldn't we expect to be able to buy by now the dock that Samsung was showing off in their ads way before the phone was available?
Just cleaned this thread and removed some unacceptable comments which absolutely break XDA Rule 2 and usually lead to the suspension of user accounts.
Please stay on topic. Don't post if you have nothing constructive to offer.
Appreciate your cooperation.

Actually, demanding that a product for which you've paid $500 works and it's upgradeable for a reasonable time as long as the hardware supports it (just like a computer), is not *****ing.
When you buy a new car and the radio doesn't work, you don't expect the dealer to tell you to either wait indefinitely, or fix it yourself. Same with this phone.

Difference the phone works as is, everything works fine on it. You just want it to work "better".
Well I want my myTouch to be better. Yea, they should trade me out to a myTouch Slide! I spent 250!!! dollars on it.
I don't remember the last time I bought a computer and then when the next version of an OS came out I got it for free. Either shut up, or learn to develop on your own.

Gingerbread’s Screen Off Animation

I found this on Phandroid:
We promised we’d be digging for more information about Gingerbread well ahead of its coming out party, and we’re making steady progress. We initially broke the news on Monday. While most of you remained skeptic thanks to the world’s worst screen grab ever, we expect some of you have come around to trusting us now that the YouTube app we talked about in that post officially launched a few days later. Today, we have a little bit more.
What you see above is what happens in Gingerbread when turning your screen off: a cool effect not unlike what we used to see when turning a TV off back in the tube days. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it certainly is nice and it’s worthy to note that this is the first time we’ve seen animations of this sort triggered upon hitting the designated screen off button on your phone. Note that no theme for any custom ROM or any version of Android is able to trigger such an animation, leading us to believe that this is – in fact – the real deal.
That’s it for now, but again, we’re always digging for more. Stick with us as we try to get the blueprints of this sweet house laid out before it’s ready to be built.

Would be great
I've saw a guy who said he had Gingerbread on his phone and it didn't look like that so I'm going to be surprised either way.
I thought gingerbread was meant to be a stock graphic overhaul - it looks the same as Froyo to me? (minus the screen off animation)
But the screen animation looks hot I want!
I hope they manage to do screen orientation animation too.

Sigh, Gingerbread is looking more and more useless by the minute. I'm thinking even 2.3 is kind of an overstatement, how about 2.2.8
Also, people who buy a phone right now may be screwed out of the real update, Honeycomb.

I agree, I am so disappointed with everyone dishing it so bad... I am excited about Gingerbread, Android picked up the Palm guy so I think the UI will be much nicer, and we are so early in development, that what we are seeing looks just like what we have so I think everyone is talking trash because of that.
I think we will see some nice changes coming

Man you don't understand miui then. The general standpoint on a design for an icon is universal. Just because the iPhone used the format first doesn't make it there's. Android is all about open and customization without too much work. IPhone doesn't offer widgets or ease of notifications. Android does. Just because miui looks like the iPhone doesn't mean it is. Miui is heavily based on backend mods. Stiff if implemented right can be a lot better than anything. I'm on miui right now and I love it. Sure its a little different but its functional for a heavy user if configured right with good placement of widgets and folders and icons.
Next time you hate on something... just don't. Everyone is working hard to bring the end user something useable and not trash. Either contribute or leech. If you leech don't comment bs like that.

I understand the whole don't hate on anything idea, and I agree with it. You like MIUI,it is your opinion and thats fine. I tried it for about a week, and it has a few elements that I do like, but as a whole,it felt too much like the iPhone for my taste. And this is after having both the original iPhone and the iPhone 3g,as well as the g1,cliq,cliq xt,hd2,and now the nexus. I have used all the operating systems, and if 2.3=MIUI,My nexus is going to continue to run enomther's theofficial like it has been.
Honestly, if MIUI really did contain elements of Gingerbread (like all the rumors everyone refers to), do you really think Google would just let it slide? Why can't we all realize that these devs put in some effin MAJOR framework overhauls into froyo, and didn't steal it from Google? If I was a dev behind MIUI, I'd be PISSED if people said that.

Let's see ... just for 2 days waiting only
Omg who the hell is still excited about this ****. Gingerbread is going to he such w huge disappointment. All it is going to be is a bunch of bug fixes and very minor features.
true. i havent seen any evidence that this will be worth moving from a 2.2 rom at all. the stock launcher is still 100% balls, so no ones gonna use that over zeam, lp or adw. miui has (IMO) the best pull down menu, you can already get 'fancy' animations (bounce, flips etc etc) in roms.
what exactly will this add that's worth giving a crap about?
if it only came with an accelerated UI and nothing else, that would be huge, as huge as proper (i.e not the official) apps2sd.
so far it looks like it'll have new icons and that's about it. big whoop
At this point, I think Google should just bite the bullet and have a Gingerbread conference, telling us the features and say that it's going to be released some point in the future.
It's lost it's shine now, people are starting to move on from the hype because they are sick of waiting and now it can be nothing other than a disappointment.
As always, don't believe it until you got the OTA yourself. Just because some weirdo on Twitter or anybody else says so doesn't mean anything. And I totally agree with tommo123 and gibosn6594.
I really don't understand what some of you are complaining about. There's never been a Google update that wasn't an improvement over the previous one in terms of performance, features, etc.
If you would like a pretty interface, do it yourself; new icons...again, do it yourself. That's the beauty and point of a dev phone like the N1.
If you want to be told what your phone should look like and act like, join the Cupertino crowd. Nothing wrong with that.

Lost its shine? Really?.......Really?..... So when it comes out your not going to load it right?
If anything to learn here is those that are first to complain will be first to download and say " I told you this was going to be awesome."
I still think we won't see GB until a sale date for the Nexus S is announced. I have nothing to prove that but it appears to me, from the long wait, that Google is delaying for the S to be ready and then do a simultaneous launch.
I have to agree. I was a lot more excited about this update before I started seeing the leaked videos and screenshots. Granted the 'under-the-hood' changes could be great, but I was really hoping for drastic UI improvements and so far I'm not seeing any. Installing the new Google Reader app reminded me of just how bland the user interface of android apps can be.
Could still be surprised I guess, but overall this doesn't feel like as big an update as previous ones.
I'm also starting to get bored of my Nexus One and looking at what's next and I'm getting really tired of all the manufactures throwing their own skins over out-of-date android builds. Android needs an interface that is slick enough that OEMs are happy with it as is.

I'm definitely not moving over to Gingerbread until MIUI is updated to it. There honestly seems to be no reason to. It doesn't exactly seem all that interesting..
The fact that there will be no more banding in images is a delightful upgrade, but other than that, Gingerbread is a small graphical enhancement update not worth wasting time on. Maybe once more information is revealed I will reconsider~

Google did not post a complete changelog yet so noone really knows which new features will come with Gingerbread.
The only thing Google really announced is that there will be some minor cosmetic changes made to the UI, so I really don't understand why so many people are now, as there are only few pictures of Gingerbread leaked, crying about the 'only' minor changes that were made to the UI, although this is just what Google announced...
I myself think that there will be some surprises, I just can't believe that Google would made such a secret about Gingerbread if there were so small changes.
However Google's Android updates actually always were quite useful.
What I don't understand is why it is taking so long to release the update if the changes are alledgedy minor.

despite blatant rip-off, iOS 5 notification center looks pretty sweet

now i know this will generate all sorts of hubbub, but the iOS 5 notification center looks really awesome. it IS a pretty blatant rip-off of their main competitor (and frankly something THEY would have taken google to court for), but they have some really sweet differences.
i'm hoping something similar shows up in android soon since i will NEVER be switching to ANY iOS device EVER. it just looks like it will be pretty cool. am the only one who thinks this?

I'm pretty sure that once its released, the uneducated hive mind that is apple fans will declare that android stole their notification style.
Steve Jobs will again proclaim it to be innovative and new, and whatever new iphone it will be released in will sell millions.
In all seriousness, I actually like their "new" notification tray- it just looks better than Android IMO.
I do think it looks pretty nice, but thats to be expected from apple. But that was souch a low hit...are they running out of ideas? Hm...

i also think that having widgets in the drop down is pretty cool too.
I thought it looked pretty awesome.
But I will quote myself from past, present and future and say that I will NEVER buy an Apple device.
Dunno, it's just some hate I've had towards it since the first iPod (so, pretty much when I first realized that company existed)
Never owned an apple product (Don't listen to music and being a gamer wouldn't stand Mac OSX) and never will, apparently.
Linux + Android will keep me company forever.

I had a thread on this very topic... also wrote on my blog that the thing that pissed me off the most about them ripping it off, is that they brought their polish to it, and Google has let it sit stagnant for 3 years... Google really should try to improve the UI more.
This may also help people from moving to phones with custom UI (ala slower updates).

I had a thread on this very topic... also wrote on my blog that the thing that pissed me off the most about them ripping it off, is that they brought their polish to it, and Google has let it sit stagnant for 3 years... Google really should try to improve the UI more.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasnt Gingerbread supposed to be a HUGE leap from a UI standpoint? Yay. We received green icons.

This person has all the right ideas lol. I totally agree, and it's almost as if their running out of ideas of their own. I mean seriously, what else can you do to the iPhone? Oh wait rip the camera from WP7 too lol.
Of course, it'll sell millions and all of your little iPhone using friends will brag about how their new 5 year old toy is better than yours.

Am I the only one who doesn't actually think the iOS 5 notification is worse than Android?
Just look at it this way. If you have CM7 (or Samsung ROMs for that matter) you literally have thousands of options for style and theme of that menu. Yes the stock ones don't look as good as the Apple one but that's why you are on XDA and have hundreds of themes. Some of those themes really go circles around the Apple theme they used. Last I checked, iOS5 also didn't offer you the option of theming that notification center. . . you are stuck with it forever.
As for widgets in the notification bar...quite honestly I can't think that would be a good idea. You put a few widgets and the whole menu is taken....then you have to scroll up and down to see things....which effectively defeats the point of a notification dropdown menu. Yes it's useful if you are in an app...but that's the only place I see it being useful and as far as I remember Android is GREAT at mutitasking. iOS is not and neither does it have widgets...hence why it makes sense for iOS5 to have this feature.
I haven't used straight stock Android in quite a while, so I don't know how much/little the UI changed. My understanding was Google would attempt to improve the mechanics of the OS and if you want something nice you modify it. However I also think it would be silly of Google to put too much time into modifying the UI since they let the manufacturers ruin it any way (depending on your take).

yeah i agree with most of what you said. i was referring more to the functionality of it rather than the look of it. I just love the slide to open feature for facebook, sms, voicemail, etc. maybe i don't have the best facebook or twitter apps, but i rarely get notifications for them (which is more likely a failing of facebook and twitter for having poor push notification implementation and not a shortcoming of android). and also, i like the tiny drop down that will give you a preview of a text or twitter mention (that is similar to the ticker). while in apps that hide the notification bar (i.e. most games and camera apps) i'd just like a heads up that i got a text without having GoSMS halt everything with a popup.

No the opposite actually. It was supposed to improve majorly upon the performance. Not the UI, they (Google) stated that there were very few visual differences between froyo and gingerbread.

You know, I'm sure if we told the GO Developers that, they MIGHT make something similar in the lines of that, I too LOVE popups, but have them disabled because I use fullscreen apps and when i get a text...

it's supposed to be their "most ambitious announcement", I can't wait.
I am switching back to iPhone when the iPhone 5 comes out. I really like Android but I am sick of Samsung and not really impressed with HTC or Motorolla.
