[Q] dissapointed in evo ?? - EVO 4G General

so i have had evo 24 hours or less rooted ran several roms however running stock kernals not noticing anytthing special the quadrant scores are rediculous my wife has the shift scoring over the top of the nexus 2.2 and i am just barely getting under 1000 i am thinking about taking it back to the shack and getting the epic unless someone can talk me out of it and give me some pretty good reasons to stay with the evo i haven't even seen any o.c. kernals

Do whatever makes you happy. Why do you want complete strangers to talk you into something?

bahahhahhaha go get an epic so people in that forum can read a post about how you aren't sure about it & see if they can talk you into keeping it.. oh yea, being disappointed with a year old phone is well.... disappointing.

+1 to quadrant scores. So many scores are the results of people dumping apps, and overclocking just for the score, and not for every day use.
That said there a several kernels so choose one that suits your rom
THAT said, if you think you might prefer the epic, go for it.
Evo HW 003
MIUI 1.6.17

In addition to what everyone else has said about Quadrant, you can't expect the Evo to beat the Shift. Despite being clocked lower, it's a newer generation of chip than what we have in the Evo -- kind of how Core was "slower" than P4 op paper but was actually faster due to other improvements. So Evo vs Evo Shift isn't a fair comparison.
If you care that much about having the fastest phone you can, why'd you buy the Evo right now anyway? It's been out a year. The Epic has been out almost as long, so I don't think that's your answer either. Either get the Evo 3D or wait for the Photon or Samsung Galaxy S2. The Evo's no longer top of the line.

You are not looking in the right place then. Lots of roms and kernels available. You can OC to your hearts content.
So, why, after 24 hours, would you thing the phone sucks? The versitility is one of the things that make this phone. You can try an AOSP rom with a tiamat or Netarcy kernel which will give you more options that you will ever need or one of the many stock roms that just have different levels of awesomeness in them.
But, to each their own. If you really don't like the Evo, don't keep it. I think that would be a mistake but I'm not you. You have got to do whats best for you.
It is a little older phone hardware wise and the shift does have a 2nd gen processor, even though its clocked slower than the Evo, It can test better, but what about the Dev community support? If your rooted, the possibilityes are endless with the original Evo.

My wife took her epic back to the store she did not like it and touch wiz is the wrose keep your evo or go get the 3d if you just got the phone that would have been my first choice anyway and the scores on that phone is grate

the reason i am dissapointed is for one i expecting the overclocking to be a bit more that 1.1 stable pretty lame considering i have a asus transformer stock 1 ghz now running rooted custom kernal at 1.6 can go all the way to 1.7 is it cause htc locked there kernal sourse and asus has a unlocker kernal sorse just not sure, cause i ran the net something kernal and couldn't do **** with it locked up my phone.

like was mentioned previously, quad scores are meaningless. and IMHO, so is "how well a phone overclocks". for me, it's about support available (ROMS/etc) and options, how the phone actually feels (physical build), what the user experience is.
thus, I am in no way disappointed in my evo. I am almost sad to consider the idea of upgrading. sure, I want a dualcore... but I will miss this screen size (aspect ratio). And the f*cktons or ROM options with dev support.

Look, you bought a 1 year old phone that's designed around a 2.5 year old processor. The transformer is a newer product built around a newer processor. If you want something faster than the Evo, there are other choices you could buy, including the Evo 3D. The Evo is still a great phone, but it's not top of the line anymore.
It's not a question of HTC locking anything down in the kernel -- it's just a processor that doesn't have as much room to overclock as others might. But there's a lot more to a phone's performance than clock speed.

OK, I'm not in agreement with the OP, but I can't say I agree with this either. Honestly, making calls is among the least important features of my smartphone. Yeah I want it to do it, but I use my "phone" for so much more than that. There's nothing wrong with wanting the fastest and smoothest device we can get.
My beef with the OP is why he bought the Evo in the first place if that's his priority. It's mine, and I certainly wouldn't buy the Evo today. I don't regret buying it 9 months ago though. That, along with too much focus on meaningless benchmarks and clock speeds, are where I have a problem.
Now, if budget only allows for the Evo at its newly reduced price, then that's fine, but I still don't think it's fair to be "disappointed" by the performance of what is now a mid-tier phone, and it's especially not fair to compare it to a new Tegra 2 based tablet.

EVO 4G & Epic 4G Hanging out SIDE BY SIDE

Greetings All,
It's me again, last week I posted some side by side photos of the Evo 4G and the Droid X. This week we have two of sprint's 4G handset side by side, the HTC EVO 4G next to the Samsung Epic 4G.

You should try matching wallpapers to compare the difference between screens, but I think we all know the difference by now.
Could they make the SAMSUNG a bit bigger? Its kinda small as it is right now!!!

Yea, I will try it and post the pics, Got sooooooo many phones to play with on my job. Work in a technical support group so we all have the different high end phones from the various network...
A coworker here at the office told me she was all excited about her first Android phone and invited me to come see it. It's an Epic, the first one I've actually seen in person. I didn't want to rain on her parade so I kept my opinions to myself but all I could think was "You are still in your 30 days!! Take this POS back and get an EVO while you stil can!!!"
I am very surprised at what an awful device the Epic seems to be. I know opinions are like a-holes but mine is: The Epic doesn't hold a candle to the EVO and I have a hard time thinking of them as similar class phones. Samsung is a GREAT TV maker, if only they made phones as well as they make LCD TV's they would be a serious contender in the Smart Phone market. Too bad they are missing this boat (IMO)
First thanks OP for the pictures.
I had a chance to meet face to face with the Epic here is what I thought:
The screen is beautiful it's like looking at a highres photo. Simply amazing.
OK now that I have that out of the way. The device feels like a cheap kids toy. I kid you not in your hand it just feels like its going to break. It doesn't have that quality build feel of the EVO. The screen doesn't tilt, anyone who owned a TP2 knows what I'm talking about. The screen is small compared to the EVO. I don't care if its .3" or .9" its smaller by a long shot. Processor was slower than the EVO it scored like 954 in quadrant standard. I know it can be over clocked and it doesn't have FroYo so at best it will be as fast as the EVO. It did run 54 fps avg with about 4 or 5 stdev out of the box.
Got to go so I don't have time to proof read my statement, thread grammar checkers let me know.
nicely done op! i really like seeing a side-by-side comparison. even though i like the physical keyboard, i don't like how thick it is! i'm sticking with my EVO. it's just so sexy.
P.S. the samsung owner should check their voicemails!!
give it some time man, here is a a screen shot of the epic in quadrant
we only have stock 2.1 right now and if your looking for a base value look at the nexus one pre 2.2 and compare it to froyo nexus one. that is a substantial jump in score, perhaps when we get 2.2 it will indeed be as fast as the evo (with froyo) but is there a base score for evo on 2.1?
im not looking to pick a fight here but how exactly does it feel like your going to break it in your hand? im curious to known what kind of punishment your dealing to your poor phone that you would break it just by normal use..
not really sure why on the epic forum we have a lot of evo users coming in to complain about how the epic is a pile of crap (sorry dont check the evo boards so i dont know if there has been "counter" attacks) but why cant we all just get along as android brothers and enjoy 4g speeds together?
*EDIT* found some people from way back when teh evo was first released getting about 560ish on quadrant with stock 2.1, linpack gave yall 5.8 pretty decent compared to my old htc hero's 5.2. so the point of all this is just give it some time guys and we can both be on froyo
My post was not a personal attack just an opinion. Come on you know what cheap feels like don't kid yourself. And no the EVO did not score 560ish before OC and Froyo I believe it was around 900ish. Also I did state that they would probably be with in range of each other. We can all get along but we also have to deal with each other short comings such as the EVO GPU not being as good as the Epic. Soon dual and quad cores will be out. Last I am in the EVO forum.

oh i know we are, but as a person who browses the epic forums quite a bit there is a good number of people badmouthing the epic, wasnt directing that towards you i know your post was just an honest opinion. some evo users apparently have "iphone user syndrome" and cant fathom another device being close to their holy grail.
i personally am not looking forward to the dual cores as things are the evo and epic (out of the box) suffer from horrid battery life, yet that hasnt stopped samsung from working on the orion chip (1ghz dual core, claims to have 5x the power of the hummingbird).
havent had any complaints about cheapness for my phone, it looks and feels solid in my hands, got a nice bit of weight on it, not too far off from my hero. my first complaint about it was location of usb port and lack of hardware buttons. after owning the phone for a bit i can honestly say im very disappointed with the front camera, it is horridly cropped and such a low res it looks deformed when trying to use qik, (got plenty of issues with qik too but thats the app makers fault there).

in this post shows a comparison of the hero vs the evo, and the evo stock is getting 544 on quadrant. once you guys have oc it got a bit better and of course froyo, i can only hope we get the same lovins
We both love our phones that's a win. I think the front cameras low resolutions are done so when using apps like qik they won't use tons of bandwidth and will semi work on 3G.

Heh. Fans of the Epic probably shouldn't post in a thread within the EVO forums. EVO users tend to think it's the best phone in the world. I just think it's a slightly upgraded HTC desire
But I don't know how you can say that the Epic doesn't hold a candle to the EVO. I own both, and I prefer my Epic. If the difference was that big, I never would have considered the Epic But I like my EVO enough to not get rid of it. I just can't. But it sits around for the most part It just doesn't excite me.
all hail evo
It is the best phone in the world....until the next phone I want is released. I give it until Q1 2011.
The screen looks so much better on the epic
Not sure where you guys are getting those quadrant scores... I have a rooted evo running... whatever rooted (but stock RUU that came out 6 weeks ago or so) and my Quadrant score is 540-560 all the time.
Picked up an Epic for my wife (she has to have a physical keyboard) and it scores in the high 800's low 900's stock.
Would love to boost my evo. Refuse to update to FROYO until the calendar and Gmail push bugs are addressed though.
Quadrant scores mean nothing anyways. Screen on epic does look great at times but that screen door effect its really evident at times as well.
My buddy has the epic and if I didn't have an evo I'd get it in a heart beat. As far as the feel of thee phone, I wouldn't say it feels cheap and weak, but the evo had a sturdier feel, its hard to explain but its there.

oh im sure its low res for taht reason but the evo front cam is 1.3MP whereas the epic has a .3MP(?) but the issue at hand is simply hardware

he explains it in that post, samsung made a fairly large boo-boo with that
That's absolutely correct, quadrant score means nothing, especially the free edition. It only gives you the overall score and not a break down. We all know the epic has a higher res due to it's super amoled screen and it's gpu. The high score is def.ly due to the Gpu. You would need the break down of the different areas that were tested.

**Video and Benchmark Uploaded** anyone considering LG Optimus S? I'm impressed

I was in the sprint store today and notice the Optimus S and was IMPRESSSED.
It's very responsive and smooth. I was really curious to why and after some research..
Qualcomm MSM7627 chipset with dual cores really help with graphics and games.
technical specs:
* Two ARM cores integrated into a single chip – a dedicated CPU core and a dedicated modem processor – for an unparalleled level of integration:
o 1. 600MHz applications processor with floating point unit and L2 cache
o 2. 400MHz modem processor
Finally Got it

Compared it side by side (I have overclocked hero)
What I liked..
-TONS faster than hero, website scrolling smmooooth
-It's only $50...
-3G so no $10 surcharge
-Slightly brighter
-I believe it was 512mb ram (hero has 256?)
-Doesn't feel cheap at all
What didn't liked...
-No led light, but there's some apps that can make your phone vibrate for notifications
-Fiberglass display (scratches easier, but will not crack if dropped)

Mm, thats nice to hear. Maybe my mom would like an Optimus instead of her crappy blackberry.
Intersting, I didn't expect it to be that great! Now I'm looking forward to try one out
I was looking at the Optimus too. My heart REALLY wants an Evo but my head just cant justify paying for the 4g service when it's not in my area and probably wont be for a very long time.
I just bought this phone and I am in LOVE. It feels soo good in your hand, perfect weight and balance. The screen is vibrant, battery life good, and with froyo 2.2 it is amazingly buttery smooth. It makes the EVO seem like a goliath in a good way. Perfect phone and I've owned alot of phones. Now wheres our roms??!
My sister just got one of these and I was thoroughly surprises as well. The speed of this phone puts the hero to shame. Everything is fast and smooth with no lag anywhere. The scrolling the app drawer and most noticeably the typing are all fast and smooth. I'm running cm6.1 overlooked and here phone stock is 10 times better. Angry birds runs perfect on it and the gallery and camera have no hesitation when opening or being used. This is a good phone. I'm seriously considering buying it to hold over until another top of the line is released for gingerbread.

I was thinking about the lg. before we moved to verizon.. But since getting the droid incredible..I cant think of any android I would rather have atm..perfect size. and everything just blazes.. Sprint really needs something like the DINC without 4g.. etc,, cause they have a big hole in the android selection..
Those midrange.. like the sanyo and sammy. both suck.. basicly they need a evo with a smaller screen and no 3g. oh wait thats the DINC..lol
Thats the only thing I like bout verizon the selection... Sprint always has gaps.
But that lg does like pretty decent.. might tell my bro.. since he has one of my heros atm.. still have 2 in my dresser with my tp2 and a tour..

I just tried it at the store and completely agree, it's a suuuuuper fast and smooth experience. I don't know how they did it, but it's a joy to use.
I also agree with the comment above me. The Droid Incredible has the best balance of performance and physical size, and it would be awesome if Sprint had something similar without the 4G $10/mo surcharge.
At first I was a little iffy about letting a relative get the Optimus S before I got a chance to use it and read up on the drvice. Boy was I blown away by the phones speed and smoothness. Its a nice device that I wouldn't mind having for daily use.
Form factor is nice as well. It would be nice is a few showed up on eBay at a reasonable price,I'd be interested in getting one off contract to hold be over if I need a phone.

It will be $1.00 at Best Buy on Black Friday. I also saw something about it being FREE at Radio Shack.
I've been reading up on this phone all over on different forums and from what I've learned:
Rooting can be accomplished by using Z4Root from the Market - even after the recent OTA update.
The OTA update includes Swype.
No Flash yet. The GPU is fast enough, but apparently it isn't supported by Adobe. Not sure 100%, but the GPU may be missing a certain hardware component to allow for true GPU-accelerated Flash. It would explain part of the cheaper price.

Agreed!
Haha, I agree on the HTC front - they know how to make a sweet phone, but have you seen the garbage that is the Samsung Intercept and Samsung Transform? Complete junk. The only I had two Samsung phones in my life - some old silver flip phone, and the A900 (best flip phone ever!), but as far as I can tell the only quality phone they make now is the Epic (and variants).
Samsung Intercept and Samsung Transform?

And Samsung Moment all use the same processor and have an OpenGL ready chipset and no OpenGL drivers. This makes the phones crap. The Intercept is also EVDO Rev.0 which I believe fixed the radio lock bug that plagued the Moment. The transform is Rev.A (without the radio lock) but the same attrocious OpenGL performance. Samsung has completely failed at producing decent mid and low range android devices. it's remarkable.
thats why sprint needs a middle of the ground high performer. like the htc incredible.. even though i hate verizon.. This phone has really impressed me so far..

I got MikG 2.1 on my phone and it is basically running as good as the hardware will let the EVO run. What now? I have been flashing OSs since the Blackberry days and I feel a big let down. I don;t see me going to the EVO 3D as it would not really improve my EVO experience all that much. I use my phone for business and personal stuff and it is doing a very good job.
What now???
I would go for the Galaxy S II when it comes out, or something else, since good things are coming.
The Galaxy SII looks good but I have not had very good luck with Samsung phones. SMH
As crazy as it might sound, I would consider going back to a Blackberry if they came out with a 4" plus screen. Like a Storm4. Crazy right? LOL
I feel the same way, on MikG 2.1 as well. The phone is just working too well to mess with! Can't complain about that. Don't worry though, just like with the hero ROMs and improvements will keep coming. The EVO is just in a weird place because handsets are more powerful now, it is a year old, and still keeps up rather than being totally outdated.

Very weird; I had to use my sister's Blackberry when my first Evo went missing, then got a replacement; I hated it, little keyboard, had to go all backways just to get something simple, like an alarm, and had to use the calendar to have more than one.
Personally, I would recommend you at least try the Galaxy S II; I've had good experiences with Samsung products [for what its worth], the phone will be a powerhouse, and if you don't like it, can always return it within the 30 days.

Going back to Blackberry is crazy. I have one for work and hate the damn thing, compared to my Evo. There's always something new on the horizon, just wait it out

I still have my evo. I'm currently stripping it down to barebones and using my tablet for everything else. I was working on an updated gingerbread rom but those plans have changed now. The evo is still a great device as a phone and as a smartphone. It's just a shame people jumped ship just to have the latest and greatest. I simply just added what I wanted which was the htc evo view tablet.
I would go to a Sprint store or Radio shack and play with the Evo 3D. I thought i wouldn't like it after seeing all the negative reviews, but when I played with it in person, I was really impressed. Just seemed way better than I thought, and I even dig the 3D now.
I just posted my Evo on Craigslist a few minutes ago. If I get a buyer, I'll go get the 3D. Thought about waiting for the GS2, but not really a fan of Samsung phones...and the development community the 3D seems to be building up outweighs the specs for me.

The 3D is a really fast phone, played around with it yesterday but other then that I see no reason to pick it up. If it's not broken why mess with it?
Yeah some of the devs have moved onto the 3D, but this phone is far from dead. Let the excitement die down a bit and you will have plently of roms to flash in the future.

what can the 3d do that the Evo can't do other than watch videos and shoot in 3d?
I still haven't figured that one out, but it seems all the hype over it is just because it's a new shiny toy...Kind of like the ipho..oops.

That's sidestepping the question though. He didn't ask what the difference was. He asked what could it do the Evo couldn't? Having a longer battery life is certainly nice, though. But as of right now, I can't see the dual core and ram being useful... maybe in six months?

Must of misread the question. The dual core plus more ram will be a huge factor on how much faster roms will run once these devs get root access. It will totally blow the Evo out of the water in that aspect for sure.

Lol no I've had a g2x dual core overclocked to 1.5ghz
Then moved to Sprint .. got the EVO 4G..
Now I have the EVO 3d.. even with "development" nothing will be much faster
We need ice cream to utilize the dual core/adreno220 chip set...
As for more RAM.... Hardly I'm at 122-200 mbs free... That means over 70% is being used for sense 3.0 and OS...
Honestly I'm selling my EVO 3d for a EVO 4g and a laptop in two days.... Don't bother with this 3vo as they call it... It honestly isn't much of an improvement
The only thing I can seeing it be good with is a stock aosp ROM like miui or cm

I am beginning to think the same way. I would not watch 3D movies on my EVO or take 3D videos. As tot he dual processor, what exactly will that do for me? Get my emails faster? Dial out faster? Surf the internet faster? Not unless we get steady 4G speeds or even really good 3G speeds. On wifi my EVO flies and does pretty good when I get good 3G service. So I am not sure what I would gain. I know when I went from Storm1 to Storm2 it was supposed to be such a big improvement but I did not see that much. I like Sense so I am not sure if I would go to Samsung but never know. I think I would switch more for longer battery life if a phone came out with that kind of technology. But, I don't see how these faster processors are going to help with that.

I traded my EVO yesterday

I traded my EVO 4G for Galaxy S2 (Epic) like I planned months ago when they announced Galaxy S2 for first time. I want to thank each of you guys here for help, tweaks, mods, ROM's and other things that kept my EVO running better. I will step by periodically to check if anyone needs help with something that I can help with, but moving primary interest to Samsung S2 sub-forum.
If anyone wonders I traded EVO plus $110 for Galaxy and Galaxy is awesome and crazy fast and EVO is let's face it - hardware outdated for current and next upcoming android versions.
Thanks again and Happy new year !

As an owner of both phones I must say the battery life on the Epic is quite nice and working on them now is not an issue as another poster mentioned. I read about the OG Epic issue and as of right now its flash city over there. CM7 and MIUI is coming up. Not telling you to change but saying if you want to Epic is a good look...
yea...its very tempting...maybe sprint will drop a bomb at CES (doubt it) i work for sprint on the wireline side of the house so upgrades arent too difficult to get. its just hard to leave the evo, plus i'd have to wait for a dev to pull touchwiz...some ppl like it, but i dont. just a fan of aosp's...the touch will have it soon i'm sure.
running ics evervolv rom with the camera and gps zip flashed and i love it. few hiccups here and there but deff on its way to some solid goodness.
I made the switch too only because my evo charging port fell out and the evo was starting to get a little stale since having it from release day. My wife has had the first epic 4g since launch and i hate that thing with a passion. But the epic 4g touch is a totally different beast. Its like the first couple months of having the evo, i cant put this thing down. Its bigger, way faster, thinner, lighter, and the battery lasts me all day for once. Speaking of fast, i had gotten so used to the "Android" lag that i didnt even notice it anymore. But if there is a phone out there that completely takes the lag out of Android its this phone. Wow. I have a whole new perspective on Samsung. 1.2ghz dual core is quite a jump from 1ghz. And it overclocks to 1.7ghz dual core!!! I thank my EVO for being the best phone of my life while it lasted, but i honestly can say it is not missed! Thanks to all the devs and members who kept the EVO at the top of the cellphone food chain, but evolution has just kicked in! (pun intended)

I gots to agree. I made the switch about 3 months ago and I not looking back. Well I am for CM7, but the phone even with the stock Touchwiz (oh the horror) is actually pretty good. This is coming from a guy who had the Moment and I said I would never buy another Samsung phone gain. I probably would have kept the Evo if the charging port didnt break.
So for all you former evo owners now on the ET4G, how's the reception (phone, data, gps)? Is it as bad as people say about Samsungs?

I haven't had a problem yet that my evo didn't face. But I've been rooted since the moment I got this phone. This phone does show 3 bars where my evo would show full, but I have done multiple speed tests and I'm still getting the same speeds even though the E4gt shows less bars. I recall having this problem with the first couple of builds for the evo too. I've tried every modem out there and they all show the same bars and speeds for me. So either I'm not affected by it in my area or people really just need to see more bars to think it has a better radio. either way it's sprint so you can't expect to much in the way of speed and strength of signal.

Anyone Else Tired of Their Desire Z/G2?

Honestly not sure if its the phone or the OS Im tired of. Have been using my G2 for over a year, been using Android for the same amount of time (G2 was my first Android device). Lately I haven't been interested in trying any ROMs, none have really peaked my interest to be honest due to the little issues in them. Not sure what I should do from here......
End of small rant.
Anyone else feel the same way or am I alone?
I still love the phone but I am definitely getting a little bored with it. Same as with most things. After so long of use, it feels like it is time for something new.
I use MIUI and it seems the fastest and smoothest to me (probably as good as you can get on the hardware), so getting bored I try other ROMs but they aren't as smooth so I go back to MIUI. I think ICS might spice things up for a little while l, but I think an upgrade might help.

It's called "consumerism". Just use your DZ till it dies of a natural death >.>
i wasn't bored of it, i was simply tired of the lag, missed messages and genrally just the lack of RAM.
i took the plunge and moved to the desire HD (couldnt afford anything newer)
and i notice the difference in ram immediately, there are LOADS more apps open at once now, and everything just generally feels snappier. and even with all my apps open i have 100mb+ ram left, constantly,
it's a shame that the DZ didnt have more ram, because otherwise i think i could've stuck with it for so much longer.

It's "piqued," FYI.
I still use mine all the time. I have ICS on it. And with supercharger it's plenty fast. And I can text sweet things to my gf much easier and quicker using the keyboard. That being said get a hercules and rock both.

What's with all of these posts really...If you're "tired" of the phone go buy another one and use this as a backup. A lot of people do it lately.
Sure - I would be happy to buy a new phone, just as soon as you can invent a phone that has the G2's reliability, developer support, style, at least as good of a real keyboard, display quality, and make sure it works with T-mobile so I can have unlimited everything, including wifi hotspot, free tethering and free wifi calling, and no overage charges possible for only $60/month no-contract!
Yeah, that's what I thought, the G2 has no upgrade that can be made, because it is the best phone/carrier combo out there!
But I do wish there was a magical way to have the reception in rural area and LTE deep building penetration that I envy on Verizon (but I don't envy paying nearly $200/month for the features listed above!)
Still love my phone since the day I got it. Reliable and tough, stylish and sleek. I do look forward to an upgrade, but it's not something that i'm set my heart to. Can't really beat the DZ =)
Can someone just lock this post? It's so silly to post stuff like this.
If you're tired of it, then get a new phone.
g2 has been an awesome phone especially for my first Android phone but I can't wait for the next g series or maybe I'll try out the gnex. Contracts not up till October so hopefully there'll be something cool out then
After a year of using something u naturally get bored of it but if ur that boored of it try getting a mytouch4gslide

Not bored,
I recently tried a few things to give my G2 a different look and feel. Here's what I have:
meXdroidMod Atomic ROM -- been using meXdroidMod for awhile now
GO Launcher EX ICS theme -- cool screen transitions, my favorite is sphere
GO Locker -- ICS style, and I don't have date and time showing
GO SMS Pro -- I have had this for awhile
GO Weather -- besides HD video background, I like the Temperature Trend among some of the other features
With a couple of apps and also creating shortcuts to access them easily and quickly, i find my G2 very useful and not boring. Now if only I had a bigger screen...
I never understood this emotion where people get bored of things and feel the need to get the newest stuff. To me, the G2 is a solid device and the only time I would ever think of changing is out of necessity: not so much boredom. If I needed a faster GPU or a larger screen or better speakers and so forth: I can definitely understand the decision then because you have a practical purpose for the future device. But to be bored of a device and wanting to upgrade for no other reason because of it is exactly what companies want you to do. convolution put it best, "consumerism", but I would also add the word "affluence" as well.

Lol you must be delusional. This is a great phone, but as soon as I find a nexus s I'm going back. Not only is the phone faster in both the CPU and gpu department, the wolfson sound chip is a god send for music lovers (the g2 can't power my 120$ Sony earbuds and as a result aren't as loud/bass cuts out at low frequencies) , you can't beat the samoled screen (after a little tweaking with voodoo colors it gives a better pq than my 40" ex400) and to top it off ics is smooth as a gyroscope. I can't tell a difference scrolling around home screens and menus compared to my buddies gnex. Dev support is off the charts. IMO the nexus s is the device to have over a gnex or gs2.

truth, it must be quoted. I've yet to see a newer phone with all the qualities I want in a phone. I'm extremely lucky that I got this phone with my family's contract, I had no idea of the developer support behind it when I did choose it.
G2 is my first android device too. And also one year I have been using it. I love my G2 just because it my "first time". I've tried almost every Rom from xda. And now using sense 3.5. But, frankly speaking, I'm considering t buy a new better one.

Wow, that audio chip intrigues me. I primarily use my phone as a music player at the gym and I like my music loud. However I get distortion when I try to adjust the frequencies past a certain point. Is this Wolfson chip a solution?
