I was in the sprint store today and notice the Optimus S and was IMPRESSSED.
It's very responsive and smooth. I was really curious to why and after some research..
Qualcomm MSM7627 chipset with dual cores really help with graphics and games.
technical specs:
* Two ARM cores integrated into a single chip – a dedicated CPU core and a dedicated modem processor – for an unparalleled level of integration:
o 1. 600MHz applications processor with floating point unit and L2 cache
o 2. 400MHz modem processor
Finally Got it
Here's my video showcasing the SPEED of apps and games:

-1st app I launch was GoogleMaps, then Youtube, Angry Birds, and Burning Tires

Compared it side by side (I have overclocked hero)
What I liked..
-TONS faster than hero, website scrolling smmooooth
-It's only $50...
-3G so no $10 surcharge
-Slightly brighter
-I believe it was 512mb ram (hero has 256?)
-Doesn't feel cheap at all
What didn't liked...
-No led light, but there's some apps that can make your phone vibrate for notifications
-Fiberglass display (scratches easier, but will not crack if dropped)

i have both phones and i love the optimus. it loads up real fast compared to the hero. i will not get rid of my optimus unless it is for an evo. that is how good of a phone that i think it is. it also has alot hotter receiver in it and gets a signal in places that i couldn't before. overall i rate it an 8.5 out of 10

Mm, thats nice to hear. Maybe my mom would like an Optimus instead of her crappy blackberry.
Intersting, I didn't expect it to be that great! Now I'm looking forward to try one out
I was looking at the Optimus too. My heart REALLY wants an Evo but my head just cant justify paying for the 4g service when it's not in my area and probably wont be for a very long time.
I just bought this phone and I am in LOVE. It feels soo good in your hand, perfect weight and balance. The screen is vibrant, battery life good, and with froyo 2.2 it is amazingly buttery smooth. It makes the EVO seem like a goliath in a good way. Perfect phone and I've owned alot of phones. Now wheres our roms??!
My sister just got one of these and I was thoroughly surprises as well. The speed of this phone puts the hero to shame. Everything is fast and smooth with no lag anywhere. The scrolling the app drawer and most noticeably the typing are all fast and smooth. I'm running cm6.1 overlooked and here phone stock is 10 times better. Angry birds runs perfect on it and the gallery and camera have no hesitation when opening or being used. This is a good phone. I'm seriously considering buying it to hold over until another top of the line is released for gingerbread.

I was thinking about the lg. before we moved to verizon.. But since getting the droid incredible..I cant think of any android I would rather have atm..perfect size. and everything just blazes.. Sprint really needs something like the DINC without 4g.. etc,, cause they have a big hole in the android selection..
Those midrange.. like the sanyo and sammy. both suck.. basicly they need a evo with a smaller screen and no 3g. oh wait thats the DINC..lol
Thats the only thing I like bout verizon the selection... Sprint always has gaps.
But that lg does like pretty decent.. might tell my bro.. since he has one of my heros atm.. still have 2 in my dresser with my tp2 and a tour..

I just tried it at the store and completely agree, it's a suuuuuper fast and smooth experience. I don't know how they did it, but it's a joy to use.
I also agree with the comment above me. The Droid Incredible has the best balance of performance and physical size, and it would be awesome if Sprint had something similar without the 4G $10/mo surcharge.
At first I was a little iffy about letting a relative get the Optimus S before I got a chance to use it and read up on the drvice. Boy was I blown away by the phones speed and smoothness. Its a nice device that I wouldn't mind having for daily use.
Form factor is nice as well. It would be nice is a few showed up on eBay at a reasonable price,I'd be interested in getting one off contract to hold be over if I need a phone.

It will be $1.00 at Best Buy on Black Friday. I also saw something about it being FREE at Radio Shack.
I've been reading up on this phone all over on different forums and from what I've learned:
Rooting can be accomplished by using Z4Root from the Market - even after the recent OTA update.
The OTA update includes Swype.
No Flash yet. The GPU is fast enough, but apparently it isn't supported by Adobe. Not sure 100%, but the GPU may be missing a certain hardware component to allow for true GPU-accelerated Flash. It would explain part of the cheaper price.
I dont care how good it is, I will never in LIFE buy any LG phone i dont care how fast or sleek it is I just wont.....what.....I have my reasons lol. HTC for the win or samsung. That is all.

Agreed!
Haha, I agree on the HTC front - they know how to make a sweet phone, but have you seen the garbage that is the Samsung Intercept and Samsung Transform? Complete junk. The only I had two Samsung phones in my life - some old silver flip phone, and the A900 (best flip phone ever!), but as far as I can tell the only quality phone they make now is the Epic (and variants).
Samsung Intercept and Samsung Transform?

And Samsung Moment all use the same processor and have an OpenGL ready chipset and no OpenGL drivers. This makes the phones crap. The Intercept is also EVDO Rev.0 which I believe fixed the radio lock bug that plagued the Moment. The transform is Rev.A (without the radio lock) but the same attrocious OpenGL performance. Samsung has completely failed at producing decent mid and low range android devices. it's remarkable.
thats why sprint needs a middle of the ground high performer. like the htc incredible.. even though i hate verizon.. This phone has really impressed me so far..

More importantly we need a truly amazing phone to finally move on from the HTC Dream/G1

For now its a rumored phone but many different sources are indicating the validity of the claim so more likely than not it will likely appear in the following months.
Most people have been waiting for a upgrade from the HTC Dream/G1 for a long while now.
Thanks for your comment but not everyone is going to agree with you.

Found this in a few minutes, even if it does have "Sense" so you can easily turn it off
Just like you would with a custom Rom, I do this all the time if I choose to change the Launcher or Home Replacement. LOL

Or you could root the phone and tell Sense to **** off. I for one can't wait for a Nexus-like device with a keyboard. Why didn't HTC make one sooner? They knew the G1 sold like hot cakes.
God, I've been dying a good HTC qwerty phone. I've been using my MT3G for near a year now, and have gotten pretty used to the virtual KB, but I gotta say I still miss my old G1's slide out KB

Look closely at the Mytouch Slide specs, its a step back and is more last generation than Next Generation.
We need something that can compete with this:

i dont fully agree with that the specs are right on and better in some places than the motorolla droid so its not last generation at all. plus it looks fast and is getting the 2.2 update so i dont see how its last gen if its getting all the new hardware and has the same specs as one of the better selling phones

Mytouch Slide may look like a duck but it doesn't quack like a duck:
The 600MHz ARM processor is unacceptable vs the 1GHz processor the Vision would have, Droid Incredible has now.
Just like a computer the faster the processor the better the device.
T-Mobile needs to be cutting edge so it retains its customer base, everyone and their grandma wants to have an Android now
If they don't stay at it to offer the newest, most innovative android phones there are plenty of other companies that will.

I fully agree. You can look at the mytouch slide and can see it was a step back in hardware from Nexus and a step back from the high end Android phones on Verizon / Sprint *Evo an Incredible* So I wont be wasting a 2 year agreement on the mytouch slide but will also wait for a 1ghz keyboard android phone.

That is a very bold statement and totally flawed. One could conceivably shoehorn a 6-core opteron chip onto a phone and it would be wickedly fast and versatile, problem is that it would drain the battery dead in SECONDS. You really need to think about things for a bit -- why, if "faster is better" would intel be making such a killing off the ATOM chips? Why isn't anyone building phones with Intel's or AMD's fastest chips?
Because faster is NOT better! In a phone, EFFICIENT is better. The difficult part about building a phone is balancing the performance with the available BATTERY CAPACITY. You can make a wickedly fast phone, but without battery technology capable of keeping it running for a decent amount of time, it is pointless.
IMO, the 720x chips in DREAM/MAGIC are plenty. The 3D component could use some advancement, but the CPU itself is lots. We're not trying to win speed races here!

T-Mobile is NOT A PHONE MANUFACTURER!!!!
They are a MOBILE SERVICE PROVIDER.
The phones they sell are made by any number of actual hardware manufacturers, including HTC, Motorola, Nokia, etc. Having one phone or another really doesn't matter in terms of SERVICE PROVISION. Especially since they use SIMCARDS -- you can buy ANY phone you like and use it. The only things affecting whether they have customers or not is their PRICE and SERVICE QUALITY.

I know that that's just a painting of what someone expects the phone to look like and it doesn't necessarily match anything, but I really hope that if this device is real, that it doesn't have that stupid angle between the keyboard and the screen. A straight slide is fine, but too many weird movements really will destroy durability.
On the plus side, if the picture is accurate, the keyboard looks just about PERFECT. Even better than the DREAM's keyboard even, and that's saying a lot! 5 rows with ARROW KEYS!!!! Beautiful.
Only thing we'd have to do is strip that SENSE crap off it!
If it is going to look like that then I am in for one. I am not going to give up my G1 until a good phone comes out to blow it out of the water. Even more so now with having rooted my phone and CM 5.0.7 stable installed. I just hope we can kill some of the bloatware fluff and keep it smooth because T-Mobile insist on limiting us on RAM.... WTH? An extra 512mb is only a few cents more, pass the cost onto the customers if that is such an issue!

In regards to the faster processor someone just has to read from the experiences a Nexus One user has about the performance and realize that a 1Ghz is indeed wanted by current users pushing thier G1's to its limits. Its up to the person if they want a 600Mhz or a 1Ghz processor true enough but for me the 1Ghz is a no brainer. Most of these Nexus One owners are mainly ex-G1 and Mytouch so only they can understand the real difference which is quite significant espcially due to them not having a keyboard anymore and them being satisfied with thier purchase.
There are times when I am using an emulator and saying to myself how much smoother and less laggy this would be if I ran a phone with a better 3D processor and a faster CPU to support it. Im sure many others would also agree with this.
Also, no one said T-Mobile was the phone manufacturer but it is up to them which phones they have in thier lineup one way or another. I know how and why but thats beside the point. Verizon in particular with thier marketing dept. have made the "Droid" franchise one of the biggest one yet, I am reminded daily when there is a commercial on the TV. I love T-Mobile but also realize that if they do not offer a suitable G1/Mytouch replacement with a modern eye pleasing body and styling, high quality and suitable size screen, full qwerty keyboard, 2.1 or 2.2, high megapixel camera, bleeding edge CPU, capable 3D processor and a suitable battery to support all of this many people are going to leave the company if they havent already.
We all realize this website is almost exclusive for our HTC phones. While many buy unlocked phones at a premium price many more xda members actually get thier phones directly from thier service provider as I said when I mentioned T-Mobile earlier because with a contract it is more than paid for through the length of it. Most of the time its under $200.00 with a 2-year contract vs. $450.00+ without if its new to the market and cutting edge.
If you want a 1ghz processor, get a nexus one. End of story. If you would rather have a 600mhz processor and a keyboard, get a slide. You have options. No sense in *****ing about them or blaming companies for YOUR inability to make a decision. If you want the droid, get it, if you want the incredible, get it. Problem is YOU don't want to pay for it, you want it for free or discounted. Well, Your also SOL. SO pay the price to get what you want, or don't and get something more in your price range.
We know what high end phones should be. Right now that seems to be similar spec'd phones to the Evo, Incredible, etc. Adding a keyboard does not add much except bulk. So why are they not making equivalent high end sliders? Who knows?
Adding a keyboard is not going to add a drastic drain on battery life. So arguing that sliders should not get a 1 Ghz processor because of battery drain, when there are phones already out with the same processor, is moot.
All we are asking for is equivalently spec'd phones to the current high end line of iClones. It is not that difficult to grasp... Really. I promise.
Personally, I would pay $1000 or more for the right high end Android slider... They just don't make it yet.
Certainly looks a lot better than the MyTouch Slide. I hope it's something like that phone. I love my G1! Especially the keyboard. Really hope they make a new G1.. :\
I did a post about it.

http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mob...n-Processor-3-5-mm-Jack-amp-Atmel/td-p/366743
(Well instead of what I said in the forum about looking the same.. Maybe a remodeled, but still similar design)
the keyboard looks like the touch pro 2 one...looks like a fake image?
I am going to add a little more to my last post...
As long as they do not try to mimic the Verizon Kin Two in looks I will be happy. I was attempting to mess with that phone yesterday at the Microsoft Store in Scottsdale, AZ..... Personally I think the feel sucks, it was harder to type on than the G1, and it was slow loading up pages. The only thing I did like was the heavy clear coating on the outside on the top of the phone.
I'm sitting here playing with the mytouch hd side by side with the vibrant and there were a few things that I noticed:
1. The mytouch hd's screen is horribly unresponsive compared to the vibrant's buttery smooth super AMOLED.
2. The mytouch hd's screen is also not as bright and "vibrant" in color as the vibrant.
3. The mytouch hd's form is horrible. It seems as if htc was trying to combine blocky and smooth. Its just uncomfortable to grip. The vibrant's is more comfortable due to its round edges.
4. I'm am impatient guy. This phone is slow. Switching out of apps and even waking up.
5. The linpack score is surprising for froyo with jit compiler....I averaged around 3.8 - 4.1 MFLOPS........now that, is pathetic.

Okay, now the purpose of this thread is not to bash the mytouch hd, but to help keep the vibrant community large. The concept of the phone is great (FFC, froyo, HSDPA+). The vibrant could use these "things" but I don't think one should switch from the vibrant to a mediocre phone that has an extra feature or two, but lacks in other areas...In conclusion, the vibrant IS the best phone t-mobile owns, despite the failed upstagers

How did you get it to test with?
I don't see the MyTouch as better or worse as a phone... I see it as different and being bundled with some features that the Vibrant doesn't have to give it a niche.
I handled the phone for a minute or two at a local T-mobile. It is noticeably heavier than the Vibrant. The screen is alright, but not quite as nice as the Vibrant's.
I didn't notice a speed difference, but then I didn't get to play with it for long.
The major selling point for the MyTouch will be the front facing camera and the lack of TouchWiz. HSDPA+ might be a selling point for some people, but not for me... tower-to-phone transfer rates are not usually my bottleneck when surfing.
T-mobile is launching their tethering service along with the phone ($14.99 a month for a feature that your phone can already do).
I agree that the MyTouch is a poor choice for an upgrade from a Vibrant. Better to wait until December or even Jan/Feb to see if any Gingerbread phones are released.
If you are upgrading from a G1, then the MyTouch is certainly worth a look. HTC is usually pretty good about updating their devices, so you can be reasonably certain that the device will get at least the next release of Android.

At the corporate stores for T-Mobile there is a MyTouch champion at each one, they've had the device for a few days now. My guess is that's how he's using one, either himself or a friend is such said "champion".
What would make the mflops so low? I thought it had similar internals to the g2, but with more ram?
Either way, I'll be envious of the options it has (ffc, hspa+, flash) but not enough to want to change from my vibrant. Same goes for the g2 and "nexus 2".

First of all it is called the MyTouch 4G, not the HD.
Secondly, I am sure the Linpack mflops score is a fluke. Actually 100 percent certain once it is officially for sale, you are going to see crazy high Linpack scores.
And lastly, just call your local T-Mobile, if the employee is nice you can already go in and they will pull it out of their secret drawer and let you play with it.
The ffc looks badly out of place.

I've gotten to use the phone as well. It seemed just as quick as my vibrant. I didn't do any benchmarks, but intensive apps like angry birds and such loaded with about a 1 second difference, in favor of the mytouch. Although im sure i didnt open them exactly at the same time. I completely agree on the screen though. It looks really faded and washed out. I toyed around with the settings as much as I could and just couldn't get the screen to look any better. It's like they wonked out the contrast. The build quality is solid, but it seems pointlessly heavier too. It felt nearly as heavy as the g2 which doesn't make sense for a phone without a phys kb imo
That is where the ffc is...

I tried the myTouch, it's not all that. The reception was below that of my Vibrant on JI6 (dropped to EDGE often) and the screen did look extremely dull. Also it was kind of blocky feeling because of the white rim and the indentation on the side. Otherwise it's nice, I'm sure the speakerphone sucked though. The speaker on the Vibrant is really good, there is a lot of detail for such a small underpowered speaker (when listening to music of course). Also I'm 100% positive that the Vibrant is way better for music and video.
I'm strongly thinking about it as it is very tempting! Stock Android (soon to get CM7 which I'm currently using on my N1), bigger screen, dual-core, and HDMI-out (mirroring too). What do you guys think?
Went to Tmobile store today and played with one. It felt solid and seemed to perform fast around the launcher & home screens. But it just didn't feel that much different than my N1 and I don't like the large soft button space at the bottom. I'm holding out for the Pyramid now rumored to be here June 8th.
The Pyramid/Sensation looks absolutely amazing in terms of hardware; can't deny that. But HTC going the locked-bootloader route worries me. And the fact that Cyanogen himself bought a G2x makes it even more awesome. I love my N1 but I think I'm definitely going for a G2x, Sensation, or Galaxy S II this year.
Are you guys experience slow down on your n1? Cuz I am. My quadrant score on 6.1 was high running at 1113 MHz. Now its on cm7 stable release and the highest it can get is 1398. To back that up, sense preview isn't smooth anymore. Any idea?

I'm most likely going to wait for the Pyramid/Sensation. Love HTC and that phone seems to be the first all-round upgrade to the N1. Gorilla glass, great display + GPU power to drive it, plenty of RAM + storage (compared to my N1!), good looks; only thing it's missing is the trackball LED. Why has everyone dropped the idea of a repeating notification system? I don't care about the trackball, but the light is very useful in meetings.

I even care about the trackball..moving cursor is so simple with it..I honestly miss the trackball!
I've switched to the OX2, seems worthy:
I'd consider the G2X if the 850 band was confirmed (? maybe it is/isn't, haven't checked in a day or two)
Currently, I'm happy with my phones, but I have a upgrade coming from AT&T in June and I suspect I will use it on a Galaxy S II (that is, if it's out on AT&T by then). This will be the first time in a while I've gotten to take advantage of an upgrade.
Edit: looks like no 850
I'm still holding out for the HTC Pyramid/Sensation ... I can live with the new HTC Sense for a few months before rooting the phone. Then when I root it it will be 1. like a new phone and 2. quite a bit faster. Kinda like a mini-upgrade to an upgraded phone!
You're assuming you'll be able to get round the locked bootloader though.

A) Because none of the phones coming out have multi-colored trackballs/trackpads. Actually, I don't think any other Android phone world-wide has a way to display multi-colored notifications. It looks like all manufacturers have dropped support for trackballs/trackpads in general (along with Google since they added the text selection features in Gingerbread). It's an amazing feature on the N1, but it's the first (and probably the last) phone to have it.
B) But it doesn't matter because XDA members have found alternate methods of notifications (ie using the backlight on the buttons, or a few pixels on the screen, etc)
The HTC Dream, G1, had a multi-colored notification light that wasn't implanted inside the trackball. And it was awesome. It can't be that hard to bring that tiny little multi-colored LED back, but apparently no one really cares. Cause it would still be in HTC phones today. Or I guess it could have been removed for aesthetics.
I honestly don't know why the G2X doesn't interest me. It is incredibly fast, it runs stock Android (which I don't like), and it is on my carrier. But this device simply doesn't manage to spark my interest. I guess compared to other device coming out this year it simply isn't that impressive. The Tegra 2 found in the device isn't that great in comparison to the Adreno 220 found in the HTC Sensation and Exynos found the Galaxy S2, it also has a sub-par screen and an unnecessarily large bezel.
The only reason for me to get this device would be the developer support, but then again, even if Cyanogen himself doesn't have a device doesn't mean it won't be graced with CyanogenMod. Ehhh, I'm pretty sure I'll be skipping this. However iff it is the only thing good on T-Mobile when my contract is up I might have to get it.

Actually, quite the opposite. The 220 is just barely, barely faster, and in some cases (3D) the 2X pulls ahead. Check out these benchmarks from Anandtech (and note: these are for a 1.5 GHz Adreno 220 whereas the Sensation will be 1.2 GHz):

(The above 1.5 GHz test device is also not battery optimized at all, so performance may be even lower once HTC tweaks the real 1.2 GHz device to take that into account.)
Either way, it's at least a 200-300% improvement over the N1. I'd love to buy a G2x but will if and only if my N1 sells well on eBay (will list it this weekend, any takers? )

Having an IPS screen has barely anything to do with color reproduction, it more so benefits viewing angles. Which aren't even a problem with AMOLED, Super AMOLED, or Super LCD as is. The IPS LCD screen compared to those listed above is only decent. Washed out compared to the others with blacks that can't even compare to AMOLED.
SAMOLED - SLCD - IPS LCD
And this is before Super AMOLED Plus~

Yes... and you posted the only result that put the Tegra above the Adreno 220. In all others, it clearly came out ahead. Though that 1.5GHz clock might really account for those differences. I doubt even underclocked to 1.2GHz would it make the Adreno 220 less powerful than the Tegra 2, but who am I to say?
1) Need an AT&T 3G compatible device
2) Strongly prefer a stock Android device that receives its updates from Google.
The Nexus One is the only device out that fulfills both of my requirements.
I wouldn't mind a Nexus S if the AT&T band version ever comes out :-\
Honestly not sure if its the phone or the OS Im tired of. Have been using my G2 for over a year, been using Android for the same amount of time (G2 was my first Android device). Lately I haven't been interested in trying any ROMs, none have really peaked my interest to be honest due to the little issues in them. Not sure what I should do from here......
End of small rant.
Anyone else feel the same way or am I alone?
I still love the phone but I am definitely getting a little bored with it. Same as with most things. After so long of use, it feels like it is time for something new.
I use MIUI and it seems the fastest and smoothest to me (probably as good as you can get on the hardware), so getting bored I try other ROMs but they aren't as smooth so I go back to MIUI. I think ICS might spice things up for a little while l, but I think an upgrade might help.

It's called "consumerism". Just use your DZ till it dies of a natural death >.>
i wasn't bored of it, i was simply tired of the lag, missed messages and genrally just the lack of RAM.
i took the plunge and moved to the desire HD (couldnt afford anything newer)
and i notice the difference in ram immediately, there are LOADS more apps open at once now, and everything just generally feels snappier. and even with all my apps open i have 100mb+ ram left, constantly,
it's a shame that the DZ didnt have more ram, because otherwise i think i could've stuck with it for so much longer.

What's with all of these posts really...If you're "tired" of the phone go buy another one and use this as a backup. A lot of people do it lately.
Sure - I would be happy to buy a new phone, just as soon as you can invent a phone that has the G2's reliability, developer support, style, at least as good of a real keyboard, display quality, and make sure it works with T-mobile so I can have unlimited everything, including wifi hotspot, free tethering and free wifi calling, and no overage charges possible for only $60/month no-contract!
Yeah, that's what I thought, the G2 has no upgrade that can be made, because it is the best phone/carrier combo out there!
But I do wish there was a magical way to have the reception in rural area and LTE deep building penetration that I envy on Verizon (but I don't envy paying nearly $200/month for the features listed above!)
Still love my phone since the day I got it. Reliable and tough, stylish and sleek. I do look forward to an upgrade, but it's not something that i'm set my heart to. Can't really beat the DZ =)
Can someone just lock this post? It's so silly to post stuff like this.
If you're tired of it, then get a new phone.
g2 has been an awesome phone especially for my first Android phone but I can't wait for the next g series or maybe I'll try out the gnex. Contracts not up till October so hopefully there'll be something cool out then
After a year of using something u naturally get bored of it but if ur that boored of it try getting a mytouch4gslide

Not bored,
I recently tried a few things to give my G2 a different look and feel. Here's what I have:
meXdroidMod Atomic ROM -- been using meXdroidMod for awhile now
GO Launcher EX ICS theme -- cool screen transitions, my favorite is sphere
GO Locker -- ICS style, and I don't have date and time showing
GO SMS Pro -- I have had this for awhile
GO Weather -- besides HD video background, I like the Temperature Trend among some of the other features
With a couple of apps and also creating shortcuts to access them easily and quickly, i find my G2 very useful and not boring. Now if only I had a bigger screen...
I never understood this emotion where people get bored of things and feel the need to get the newest stuff. To me, the G2 is a solid device and the only time I would ever think of changing is out of necessity: not so much boredom. If I needed a faster GPU or a larger screen or better speakers and so forth: I can definitely understand the decision then because you have a practical purpose for the future device. But to be bored of a device and wanting to upgrade for no other reason because of it is exactly what companies want you to do. convolution put it best, "consumerism", but I would also add the word "affluence" as well.

Lol you must be delusional. This is a great phone, but as soon as I find a nexus s I'm going back. Not only is the phone faster in both the CPU and gpu department, the wolfson sound chip is a god send for music lovers (the g2 can't power my 120$ Sony earbuds and as a result aren't as loud/bass cuts out at low frequencies) , you can't beat the samoled screen (after a little tweaking with voodoo colors it gives a better pq than my 40" ex400) and to top it off ics is smooth as a gyroscope. I can't tell a difference scrolling around home screens and menus compared to my buddies gnex. Dev support is off the charts. IMO the nexus s is the device to have over a gnex or gs2.

truth, it must be quoted. I've yet to see a newer phone with all the qualities I want in a phone. I'm extremely lucky that I got this phone with my family's contract, I had no idea of the developer support behind it when I did choose it.

there is nothing to challenge! (you would have to go and invent a new phone, and alas, no one has invented a phone to compete with it yet)
that phone's kind of bulky. Not to mention the slow processor. (Can be overclocked, sure. But so can other phones.)
Are you on T-mobile? are you even able to get their 4g Speed without 1700MHz HSDPA bandwidth?

you're right, it does have 1700/2100Mhz bandwidth. Sorry about that.
mm I don't have personal experience with it, but I'll take your word for it on the processing speed.
Mine doesn't crash at all as I'm running the ILWT custom ROM on it. The phone does get a little laggy after a while, but a simple reboot resolves that problem.
It's laggy, the first three I had had the hanging z hinges issue and the fourth a yellow screen, the battery life was terrible, the phone was fragile, 60 bucks only gets you so much 4g, then you're stuck on dial up speeds. Overall, not a worthy successor to the g1, the last truly revolutionary phone android had.
What's a G2?
You mean the phone with the weird hinge that dangle if you hold it face down? Lol. Overall it was good but isnt the best phone in deh world. Mytouch 4G IMO was the best overall phone I had back then, solid build quality, good cpu/gpu, plenty ram (768), physical camera buttons, good camera with led flash, ffc, 4g connectivity, trackpad, physical buttons, plenty of dev support. The ugly truth
I have had two G2's in the past and very recently changed to the HTC One S but my first G2 was replaced for a cracked screen. Somehow I cracked it while I fell asleep with it and had it replaced but my second G2 was a beast. It stood the test of time and took everything I threw at it. I even attempted to destroy it and deliberately threw it on the ground to bid it farewell to give me an excuse to get a new phone but the sucker would not die and the Z hinge took the beating. I have to say that it is indeed fast for its time. I had that phone over clocked at a constant 1.5 GHz and great battery life with ICS. I have even tried numerous Sense Roms but the roms were unstable and could not run well on the phone. I do blame the phone’s hardware for this however but anything other than Sense was fast and never had any issues with overheating if that makes a difference. Yes the phone is bulky and not very pretty to look at but it the plus side is that it was one of the easiest phones to root. I will miss it now that I will be sending it off for rebate but as they say… all good things come to an end or in this case the HTC One S takes over and destroys the G2. Sure it doesn’t have a full qwerty keyboard but I can live without that
Cheers
The haptic feedback on the G2 was pretty loud. Also the audio just wasn't that loud. However everything else like GPS, speed, durability is spot on. I should know: I have mines. 4EXT recovery is the best one out there: even better than CWM. My advice? If you can get a G2 on the cheap: do it. Just don't buy a case for the G2: it'll make texting harder.
OG look for the G2 is better anyways.
