Help. My left speaker is dead. - Eee Pad Transformer General

I was just listening to some new transformers score when my transformers left speaker fussed and shut off. I reinstalled prime 1.5 with no luck. Fear it is a hardware issue please let it not be a hardware issue. Anyone else have this issue?

Have you scoped this post? Perhaps something here that can help?

Yikes! Which model is it? B50? B60? How long have you had it for? I know the Transformer's speakers are really cheap and I do know a few have replaced the speakers themselves fairly easily.

Get ready to bend over and pay the $17.00-$20.00 it costs to ship it to Asus so they can rip it up.

I recently returned my 3 rd TF (2nd with a dead speaker issue) recently for a replacement from Newegg.

Sadly it does seem like RMA time. Perhaps flashing back to stock (as you would anyway to RMA) then check the troublesome speaker? That logically would rule out software snafu.

I think I will have to rma.does anyone know if I could get a refund from newegg

It's normal for reps to not know their stuff, just as for L2 support. Some L1s barely know how to use a computer.

the TF is fairly new and something completely different to ASUS's other products so some rep might have not had to do any training on it yet. Or there's the thing with some reps absolutely hating to want to setup RMA process so they make up bull**** to avoid having to set stuff up. Just call again or ask for L2 if they give you bull****. Always ask for their name and identification # first.

The left speaker dies pretty easy. I had to ship mine back to get it fixed.

Anyone else been told by a Rep that they couldn't RMA a TF without the original box and packaging? I was...TWICE....!

I was told the opposite. I was told that if I use original packaging and box, it might not be returned to me. I sent my units in a different box with no problem.

bringing up a long dead thread here but anyone manage to swap out the speaker them self? mine just gave up today...

You could probably order some from ASUSparts and swap them:
http://www.zdnet.com/photos/cracking-open-the-asus-eee-pad-transformer-tf101/6272908
Total Disassembly of the TF.

I have two TF101s. The right speaker blew out in my original one about 6 months ago.
Just today, the left speaker in my second TF101 stopped working.
Apparently they just used POS speakers (but we already knew that from having to listen to them, right? ;-)

Sprint Service Repair Centers

I need to take my phone in to a repair center. Should I reroot and go in stock? I know i already should pull my SD card, anything else? How much do they charge, i dont have insurance. Do they give you a replacement phone?
Just nervous, need some advice.
First off whats wrong with your device, and if you haven't had your hero over a year then your still in warranty and shouldn't charge you anything (and thats impossible cause the hero hasn't been out a year).
I would go back to stock rom, most service center repair specialists will flip out if you tell them hacked your phone. Just saying (I don't care personally)
Yes, before you go to the sprint store restore to factory OS. If you don't that will void your warranty

Most stores can't repair something like this. They will probably give you whats called an Advanced Exchange, meaning they'll order you a refurbished Hero, before you freak, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with a refurbished phone.
Secondly they will probably not give you a loaner while they look at/repair it. It would take probably 8 minutes to activate a loaner and then look at your phone, its way more simply to just go without a phone for an hour or less.
Lastly, they will more then likely not be able to swap you same day, meaning the refurbished phone will need to be sent to the store, and you would pick it up tomorrow.
Hope this explains Sprint's process a little better.

Buy denatured alcohol.. Dip your audio input into the alcohol very lightly.. And then stick the plug in the audio port, push in and out and turn and you should see better audio..
Dust and moisture residue gradually build up on the metal contacts and cause some interference..
Usually that issue is not the port, but thats not a be all-end all answer either.

Ok, wanted to share my experience...
The store i purchased my phone at initially is great, they have helped me with everything and have always been polite and courteous. After going to that store they told me to simply take it to their readynow store and they will fix it no problem. That combined with the recommendations from techs in this forum i felt very good driving 20 miles with my screaming child to the store to get it resolved.
Im back after a very angry drive home. Not only did the manager at the store let me stand waiting to be helped facing her for 10 minutes before i asked to be helped, she acted as if i were a retarted person and pointed out the audio jack on top and showed me how to put the headphone jack in.
When I explained that for the sake of better sound quality and accessories I have always used the bottom port for audio and it obviously is malfunctioning (it goes on and off when something is plugged in to audio in th mini usb)
She let out a sigh and said she would see if the tech will "even look at it". When she came back she told me that the tech says that the mini usb isn't intended for audio use and he wouldn't accept it.
I explained that my local store told me this would be taken care of here no problem and it was covered under warranty, and i spoke with a few techs online who recommended the same, and now your saying im SOL? she says yes.
I have heard horror storys about bad sprint service but I have never been treated by a company that i support with my money monthly this way. THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD! I would be fired if i talked to a customer like that and just shrugged off their problem.
Sorry for the rant

Just FYI, and I'm not saying you'd want to take it to court, but courts have upheld that defects in products that could not be caused by software/firmware changes must be covered under warranty even if the user changed it to some unauthorized version. The case I'm thinking about was regarding a hacked game console but the same would theoretically apply to a phone. This would have to be something like the screen dying or the usb port going bad. If the processor died they could possibly argue that you caused it with under/over clocking attempts.

Need to find replacement ear pc. receiver. Help Please.

I work in a machine shop and there are a lot of very fine steel chips everywhere. When I put my phone in my pocket all of the fine chips get sucked into the phone from the external speaker magnet and the ear pc receiver magnet. The same thing was happening to me when I had a NexTel phone that had a much more powerful external speaker so, it was kind of understandable. But, at any rate I took the phone completely apart and cleaned the external speaker and that sounds fine now. I also cleaned the ear pc speaker but, I think some steel chips are too far in because the speaker still sounds like **** or it blew from having the chips on it too long. I would rather just replace the speaker myself instead of getting a re-furbished replacement from t-mobile. I looked all over but can't find a replacement ear pc. at all. It would be really cool if anybody know a place to get these type of pcs. Thanks in advance.
Come on guys. You mean to tell me that nobody on this forum knows where to get replacement parts. I find that hard to believe.
Thanks for the help. Lol
Mike,
If nobody has replied, then I guarantee you that nobody who has read your question knows where to find that part.
Now, there are a number of places that sell some types of replacement parts for the HD2...things like digitizers/screens, outer shells, buttons, etc, but I've never seen an item like the speaker you need sold through any distributor. That's the kind of part that rarely finds it's way into normal distribution channels, and so your best bet is to find a junked HD2 that doesn't work for some other reason, but has no problem with the earpiece, and then it would just be up to you to extract the component you need and pop it into your unit.
You can just do a regular google search for "HD2 replacement parts" to find the standard outlets for that type of thing, but I honestly doubt any of them will have exactly what you're looking for.
a few weeks ago I remember seeing a bricked hd2 for sale on ebay for parts. perhaps you can check ebay.

yeah that will be ideal if that guy can get he earpiece for it...he's got some for other models anyway. I note that he's got the pic and the title messed up for the HD2, it's listed as the "Touch HD2", with a pic of a TouchHD...and he's using the HD2 pic for the HD Mini lol.
Thanks everyone. I'll try the cell parts website that was mentioned and if that doesn't work I'll just do a claim on my insurance and get a functional refurbished one. It sucks, but what are you gonna do. I frown uppon refurbished phones. Lol. Thanks again guys for the responses.

External speaker gone dead after 2 days

Hi there,
After 2 days external speaker has gone dead!
Tried wiping, factory reset, hard reset, and all over again. Nothing-zilch-zero
Found on XDA and elsewhere that Samsung has quite a track record on this particular problem, with GS, GSII and yet with my GN...
Any other reports on this?
Will return mine now.
Regards,
Keep us posted with updates please....

Just Google on Samsung External Speaker Dead.
Regards,
Just happened to me. I was listening to a podcast and suddenly no sound. I thought it was Google Listen which seems to occasionally pause for no reason on my N1, but it was still playing. Restarted and tried messing with volume and mutes. BT still works but speaker won't come back. I was using it at full volume if that has anything to do with it.
And I have had it for 8 days.

if you google for an issue on any manufacturer, you're likely to get hits on it specially when the device is popular
Lord, why's so many things wrong with Samsung phone? I just purchased a Note without reading the forums before buying. Hope mine doesnt cause me any headache or this will be my last Samsung phone.
I really don't think this is a widespread issue. Google only reveals this case (now two) and I found a few captivate issues. So it seems pretty isolated.
I found if I put the volume all the way up and hold my ear to the external speaker, that I can just hear it. Will have a chance to back up in a bit and try resetting everything and see if anything helps. Otherwise not looking forward to shipping this back overseas to Samsung for service since I had it a few more days than I thought and Handtec has 10 day policy.
UPDATE: Samsung UK said to contact Handtec who was easy to work with and provided RMA. Part that stinks is that it will be about two weeks before I get a replacement, because shipping overseas in any expedited means was stupidly expensive.
Scaots, did you get any other warranty or are you using Samsungs warranty? Did you have any hoops to jump through for them to honor the warranty even though you're in the US?
did u try and clean out the headphone jack? (maybe with compressed air/ electronic cleaner)

Handtec was no hassle. They had me fill out a form and issued an RMA. Shipping back to UK is a hassle. Expediting would be crazy expensive so going to be another week before I get one back. Still have to find out if I get reimbursed for that.

It's a problem with the device speaker. Headphones work fine and so does the earpiece. If something was activating the headphone jack audio then earpiece audio would also be trying to playback through the jack rather than the earpiece.

RMA'd 2013 Nexus 7 for multitouch issue, nothing was fixed.

So I was having the multitouch issues.. putting two or more fingers closely together caused major freakouts, and some swipes would just count as taps, as well as phantom taps happening. I RMA'd. got it back, only to find out all they did was a factory reset, which I had already done. Obviously this did nothing to fix the problem. I was very angry. I went to Asus support and did a chat with a support guy ( trying to remember this is not his fault ) and politely stated that the RMA had done nothing. I set up a new one, explaining that it is a hardware issue and that I wanted the screen/digitizer to be replaced. I'm sending it tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know how that goes. Has anyone else RMA'd for this and gotten it back in perfect working condition?

My device only exhibits some multitouch jumpiness when not grounded. I decided to wait for Asus and Google to sort it out internally and then I will send it for repair. Now from what I heard they only replace one faulty units with another. Mine seems to be one of those better ones even though it has serious problems with basic pinch to zoom gestures when ungrounded. I keep it for now because I do not want to risk replacement with a worse one.
One question to the those of you who got a replacement. When you got your replacement devices what was the manufacturing date? Did anyone get a device from September production batch? Was it any better?
I just mailed mine in for repair yesterday. I was hoping this would resolve my screen issues but I'm getting the impression that I will be very lucky if it does.
Plan B will be to buy another one and return the first one with that receipt. Rinse repeat until I get one that works.

So annoying that's what you have to do just to get one that works. Asus..... I don't know why they didn't just go samsung or htc, as badly as asus fudged up QC on the 2012 N7
I just mailed mine in for repair today, I don't know if I did right. Mine is also from the best ones between the bad ones and I donĀ“t want to get one in worst conditions. I know a guy who send it to asus and got it back with the screen, front and gps changed, they did not even talk about the gps or gps problems at all, so we thought it was solved because they knew what to change. When he got it back at first it was perfect, he use to had a realy faulty unit, but the next day he came saying that it was failing again, much less than before but not perfect at all. He keeps talking with the people on asus and they told him to send it back, that may be an app... ???? I guess they don't have any idea on what the problem is.

There is a problem with that solution, I have the grounding issue, how could just a software problem do that? Mine works nearly perfect in my hands but if you put it over a sofa... Could be a software problem with some apps but not all.
The 15x updates contained firmware (which effects the hardware) as well as software.
Sfhub's firmware patches have been 80-90% successful in minimizing or eliminating the touch problems for those who've tried them.

So in essence, commit fraud?
Apparently.
Sad that the sellers have to take it in the shorts because Google/ASUS are so clueless and unable to provide anything remotely resembling customer service.
They'll end up with a bunch of money tied up in defective stock that they'll have to sit on until they get credit.
Next time, how many Google/ASUS tablets do you think they'll be ordering?

Are you from the police? Is that fraud? So how would you call what asus/google are doing...
I think people that buy a device and return defective units to the place of purchase are heroes. Especially if they return 3-5 or more. They beta test the devices, and take out the bad ones for the rest of us.
Is it fraud to buy model ABC and return model ABC to the same store? The stores have a ASUS wonderful warranty program where they can return the devices for a full year for repair and resell them to unsuspecting customers. For example, I noticed Best Buy selling a Google device recently at full price that had an extra small sticker - Bug Fix A. Isn't that fraud? LOL
Seriously, it should be fraud to sell a consumer faulty devices and expect thousands of customers to deal individually with the known problems.
Even if you buy one in one shop, then buy another in another, or the same shop, and return the first one as the second, that is what the user said. If that's the way to get a good one working... but be careful with bar codes, they will know you are not returning the same item.
There's no damage for any shop as Bob said, they just return the unit and gets new one. The biggest problem is for the user, Google is just lucky for not having more returns.
They are are all screwed up I think. Some more then others. It can be fixed with Sfhub's patches for the most part. Mine still gets strange when I play extended periods of Terraria but it is only for a second or two. I don't even think it is the device at this point but rather the game itself.
Best thing to do is go into Dev options and turn on show touchscreen inputs. Before it would skitz out and I could see like 5 touch inputs randomly on the screen. Now after Sfhubs fix, I don't see any, even when the game gets wonky.
This is why everyone knows it can be corrected via a proper patch from Google. Whether they adjust the sensitivity to touch or grounding or whatever. If Sfhub can do it, Google can. Plus it is a tiny download, his directions are precise, you don't have to be unlocked or rooted to do. There is absolutely no harm to just patch it yourself until Google makes with a fix.

That is extracted from his post.
So no one's had a positive experience RMAing the nexus? Do the majority of units have the multitouch problem?
Sfhub's fix helped but I still get the "grounding issue" where the touchscreen goes insane if I place the nexus on certain materials. It sometimes exhibits the same problem when connected to the charger.
Other than that, the tablet works great when I hold it in my hand, no other issue to report... so I'm worried about RMAing my N7 and getting back one that not only has the same multitouch issue but now also randomly reboots or has dead pixels or dust or whatever. My warranty applies to north america only because I bought it off ebay and I don't live in the US so shipping it off to get replaced will get costly if I can't guarantee I get a working replacement back. Can I be sure that like, the newest batch of nexus 7 has been fixed and the replacement will be of that batch?
Since they're not sure what the problem is (one Google groups poster states that ASUS has had his for a month with no ETA on a fix, or when he'll get it back) I'm not sure how they can fix anything , or be certain that what they've been shipping is 'good'.

Just bought a Note 2014, and I love this device.
But the IR receiver on the top is not really solid, as in I can move it with my finger around, like it's not tightened/fastened down.
All models are like this, or did I get a faulty device?
(can replace it for free in 10 days or so.)
You have a faulty device, mine is very stable
S4 9505 / Note 10.1 2014 P600
Hit the Thanks button if I was able to help you

Dang it!
Thanks.
Now I wonder where should I report it or what to do with it.
Mine is really solid! Align with the bezel and don't move.

Talked with the provider, they said I have to take it in.
I hope they will be able to get me a new one. Don't want to get it to Samsung and wait weeks.
Samsung and Quality... meh.
Ps.: This might be important, but the "Do not accept if seal is broken" ... was broken when I got the device.
This carrier is annoying the _HELL_ out of me.
1) You have to buy online from them if don't want to pay more. (WHAT)
2) The postman brings your device, you have to sign a crapload of papers, and you don't even see the box. Then he is off. Yeah, the box is sealed with a plastic bag (which was unopened), but the Note box was opened.
3) You have to wait UP TO 15 (FIFTEEN) days to get your SIM card activated, so you can't even call your carrier.
It's stupid, unprofessional, crappy. (It's TELENOR by the way. The country's worst provider. Well, I think it's the worst in the world. Never, ever sign up to them.

Here is a video of the issue.
You can hear the "clicking" sound as it moves around in the socket.
I did not push it too hard or try to disassemble it in any way. I just tapped it. Tried to make it audible as possible, that's all.
Ps.: I don't want to sound like a crybaby, but this is not a cheap-o 30$ tablet.
Many have this problem with both speaker grills, which should be more annoying. Or the whole frame is loose. So things could well get worse for you, if you get it exchanged.
For the worst case, the loose frame, the manual has the audacity to state that this is normal with time (so no warranty here).

Meh, they have a repay option as well.
I'll try a replacement and if it sucks, I'll just get back my money and get an iPad. (Bleh.)
Mine is a little loose, but just a little.

Yeah, mine too is like that.
To be honest, I just want them to verify the issue. Because I'm sure it works, and I won't ever use it.
But God as my witness... if Sammy would see this problem, they would say I used the tablet for digging holes in the ground, to skateboard and whatnot. Because against Sammy, you lose. You are the public enemy no. 1 for them.
Which is kind of sad. (I already have an S3 LTE... damn.)
But Apple is even worse.
Oh well.
So yeah. If they write it down with signature that the issue existed, and I did not cause it, and there is warranty... it's fine with me.
mine is lil loose and i didnt notice till i read your post , but will it works and not gonna fell off , if ya touch it with ya finger and kinda stick and move it fast you will hear tick.
btw , samsung is great on hardware and good on software , kinda sux at devices build , you cant get all 100%
many devices i've seen looks/build great but cant do what sammy's devices do

The main problem here is the PRICE.
It costs more than an iPad, which is one overpriced hipster device out there.
Of course it comes with the S-Pen, and the awesome display...
But man. The whole build looks... kinda lame (considering the price). Not that I care about looks too much, as long as if it's built OK and it works OK.
So anyway. For this price, I expect quality.
Both for a tablet, for a phone, or whatever.
If this would be a 30-50$ tablet, I say, sure. Hell, this can happen.
But for THIS price?
Like who checks the products? A monkey plays with them and throws them into the next box or what? Because any person could spot these issues. (Just like the multitouch problem...)
Whatever. I'm still mad at Samsung. I'm ready to fight another battle with them.
They also tripped KNOX at my carrier.... so that will be an another one.
(Asked a newbie support guy to revert my firmware. He said he can do it.
Of course he bricked the phone and when I got it back with 4.3 (S3), it had KNOX 0x1. Which I only discovered later.)

tl;dr / rant over:
Alright, alright. Rant over.
I'll go to the shop today and ask the rep what to do.
There is a replacement guarantee at them, but they have no tablets left.
And you can only replace it for the same model, or something that costs more.
But this is the highest priced device they have..... so I wonder about the outcome.
Update #1:
Today I spent 4 hours, had several fights with the carrier, etc.
It would be a 2 A4 paper long story, so I'll post it later in case you guys are interested, but will keep it short for now.
- Sammy said in 72 hours you can replace your newly bought device.
- Carrier said I have right to replace in 10 days.
- The Samsung shop's device did not have this problem. Nor the new one that the rep guy took out of the box.
For now, I had to give it to the official service (carrier's) to get a paper that I can replace it.
It sounds silly, it is silly. Will talk about it later.
Anyway. Tablet is in service now, and I made a formal complaint against the shop that refused to replace the device, and also contacted local consumer rights. I hate when companies lie into my face. Especially that 10 day replacement deal. It's a clear lie, if they don't replace my device.
My IR reciever is loose and speaker grills are moving too but honestly aslong as everything else is fine I wouldnt send it for repair thats for sure. It would come back worse thats guaranteed lol. As long as you get a brand new one then thats alright but trust me dont get them to repair it as its not worth the possible defects it will return with.

Let me understand this post.
So you paid a fortune for a device, and you are fine with it if it's plain ****?
Mate. That thing is not supposed to move.
If they mess up, then complain about them, request a refund.
YOU are the customer, YOU pay them.
Be a "scumbag customer" (at least that's what my friend calls me). It's your money, your device, you paid for it.
If they mess up, I will contact the supervisor of the service and the consumer rights service.
Thus, either getting a full refund, or a new device completely with some bonus granted.
Seriously.
What the hell?
Like people are AFRAID of companies.... why?
Before you ask, YES, YOU HAVE A FAULTY DEVICE.
The one at Samsung, and the brand new that they opened, HAD NO MOVING PARTS.
They were so rock solid, you could kill people with them. (or whatever.)
But you know, they was *built OK*. Ours are not built fine, they are faulty devices.
Come on guys, step it up.

And your mates wrong, you paid for something and its not to your liking so theres nothing wrong with bugging them.

Yeah, that friend is an idiot anyway.
Anyway. What kind of bleed you mean? (I used that multitouch testing app and boy, did I have a white-ish black screen there...)
I thought that's normal, like it's a ****ty panel or something.

Hahaha.
There is a thread on it here. But basically when watching/viewing somethjng at night along the bottom of the display white patches are visable on dark display. Lightbleed is common with LCD's and everyone has a little (the note I have now has a bit) but I guess just like the IR blaster evryone has their own limits they are willing to accept.

Thank you.
I'll keep you guys updated.
And also give you info on the new one. If I get one, and if it's worse than it was.
Oh well.
Now I just have to wait. For days. ;_; :crying:
I didn't notice until coming across this thread but mine is a little loose, too. Frankly, I don't think it's an issue.
