Hi guys,
Have many of you guys had the rebooting problem with your Arcs. I'm expecting delivery of mine next week. Could anyone hazard a guess at what percentage of the Xperia Arcs have this problem?
Regards,
Mine rebooted itself the very first day i bought it.. Now after nearly 2 weeks, never rebooted again itself
I didnt think I was having reboot issues but looked down on the side the other day and there it was doing a secret reboot ;-) I dont really check the time on stats so there could be more but most of the time its in my hand so who knows

Just checked 14 hours on do no reboot today :-D

Had mine for a month now and it's only done it once to my knowledge.
Ditto.
Once a few days after I got it and not again since.

I've had mine for a whole day and not seen a single reboot!
Have mine for a week and something right now, never rebooted, only had one battery problem where it went from 80% to 10% overnight, just completely drained the battery and turned it off and on again, always lasts ~2 days minimum.
No reboots in 2 weeks

456 hours of work without reboot.
I suspect certain apps beeing responsible for that.
No random reboots since day one (about 2 weeks now). Non-branded standard set.
Those having reboots, possible to list if yours is carrier branded/locked version or non-branded?
Had 2 reboots since beginning of april.
Another time the screen was only showing gray when waking it up, so I had to do a manual reboot. That one was probably a problem between widgetlocker, no lockscreen and any widget used on my lockscreen though.
does the arc suffer from rebooting when overheating? like when you have wifi/bt/3G/gps on, playing a game, while the charger is plugged in and charging? my x10 does it because the charging system and the CPU both heat up causing the phone to reboot itself mid-game

My phone gets hot when i play games but never rebooted itself
I only got a reboot once when it was locked, but since I unlocked it ZERO reboot
Mine only once. when I just slide the "accept call" button. But I just suspect it is the problem of my Go Launcher Ex app. after I updated my Go Laaunche Ex, never happen again.
I had a interesting conversation with a owner of a Arc, and he was getting a lot of random reboots. Apparently, there was some extra space between the phone's battery, and the cover. Enough so that every so often the phone would reboot. of all things he decided to stuff tissue paper in between the battery, and the cover. Has anyone else noticed this on their ARC?
twice in 1 month
My ARC does secert/random reboot as well when I switch 3G network full time, it may related to some apps connecting to Internet.
Just now, first unintended reboot after about 3 weeks. While i was using GMail app (while retrieving/syncing email)
Unbranded/Unlocked Arc.
G'day
I am really getting fed up with the randon shutdowns after charging, my tab has never had a uptime of more then 2 days before shutting down. Anyone know what to do about this (besides going for an ipad2 ) ?

I also have this issue even after the recent update from acer...mine will randomly shutdown..mostly after charging for a period of time...at least once a day..hate it but lovin the tablet besides that

I've had this problem since day one (3 weeks ago) I thought I'd fixed it by switching off the GPS but nows its back. I even have trouble booting it as I have to hold the power button on for a few seconds more than once. Do you think we'll be getting a software fix or should I return it?
Mine has same issue, but seems more often since last update!!

not sure if I can help in the shutdown problem.
But regarding the booting/power on thing.... that's how we ALL turns our on....it required a 3-4 seconds holding in the power button
I believe the tablet has an auto shutoff that kicks in after 4-5 hours

Absolutely the same, even after the recent update from acer!
Well, I decided against the Acer, i ordered an Asus.
HC 3.1 is in reach now
Iam really fed up with Acer....what a bull... company.

Not true. I've never experienced this on my A500. The last time it was powered off was when I installed the update, and prior to that it was powered off by me a day or two after it was purchased. I've never come back to the device and had it completely off for no apparent reason.
I use a password login, I keep USB debugging turned on and my wifi is set on when the screen is on, off when not. I charge it every day during the day, and use it at least 2 hours total per day. I have a 32 GB MicroSD card installed.
It sits by my bed with the screen off, and not plugged in at least 9 to 10 hours every night, and it's the first thing I grab when I wake up to check my email accounts and news.
So, trust me, I'd notice if it turned itself off randomly...
I wonder if it's either a software conflict with some people's tablets or if there's a run of bad tablets out there?

I could give you a nightmare story of my Asus EEE netbook...
About 2 weeks before the warranty expired the left mouse button stopped working. I sent a support request through their site and it took them several days to respond. They responded with some initial troubleshooting issues. I sent back that it was definitely hardware and the button didn't even feel right. They took another few days to respond and told me to call the 800 #.
The 800# people had me email them a copy of my sales receipt, which I did. They waited until a day after my warranty expired and told me my warranty was expired and they wouldn't do anything for me.
I tried appealing and everyone ignored me. I'll never buy another Asus product. Previously I purchased around 30 of their motherboards a year for work, not anymore.
That's why I bought the Acer - didn't even have to think twice about it.
I also encounter the shut-down issue. It seems to occur after long periods of charging (say charging overnight). I've had a similar issue with certain ROMs on my Captivate - when the phone would hit 100% while charging it would shut down.
It's a bit annoying, but hasn't been a big issue. If my tablet has been sitting on a charger for 4+ hours it's usually because I don't have an immediate need for it.
Mine also turns off overnight after the update. Hope with next update it works properly and with 3.1.

i never had any problems before but the last 4 days it shut off twice and I notice that it did only after I had it chargin. Is it a really big problem guys? Not for me it takes what 20-25 secs to boot up? I can deal with it till 3.1 rolls out so as long as it doesn't shut off daily while I'm using it idc.

Any news on this problem? I'm almost at the point of returning mine but I think I'll try the factory reset first
just throwing in a me too... just bought my iconia yesterday after returning a galaxy tab 10 (which is THE sexiest tablet ever, but I really needed SD and USB w/o an adapter)... the weird part is everyone else here ties it to charging but mine just did it ten minutes ago and its been off the charger for 12 hours. I also have trouble with the web browser crashing and text selection sometimes is just broken... 3.1 can't come fast enough, and having owned a galaxy tab 10 for a day I can attest that 3.1 is quite a bit better.
i've had mine for nearly a month now, and it's only just started shutting down automatically last night. Happened a few times consecutively last night, and it's happened again about 10minutes ago when i just went to use it it was off, and i distinctly remember it still being on after i took it off charge this morning and put it in my bag.
Starting to become a little annoying especially if it continues to get worse.
Browsers shutting down for some sites. Java problem ?
+ 1
Its meanwhile a month ago since the last posting. Is a solution found ?
I use Dolphin 6.0.0 on Android 3.01 1.141.01 and for month's it worked perfect.
Today, it starts shutting down for some sites and indeed switching off java solves the problem. Same for stock browser. Its annoying that this happens without a clear trigger because it indicates an unstable system !
edit: sorry, wrong thread
just picked mine up yesterday and encountered this last night. Which is especially annoying since it was halfway through downloading the 350MB update when I went to bed.

So update to 3.1 - the official version has been out for over a month now, it is a lot more stable then 3.01 in my experience when it comes to web browsing. Just copy the correct update.zip to microsd, reboot with top vol rocker/power held, you got 3.1 without waiting for Acer to push ota to you.
I apologize in advance if there is a similar thread; I could not find one.
My EVO has been fine, no issues. I use it heavily every day. I'm running Cyanogen 7 nightly 147 (I think) and have been for 4 or 5 days. Using the Tiamat kernel running SMARTASS.
Last night I shut down around midnight with around 50% power. I plugged in the charger but don't remember if the charging light came on then. This morning there is no charging light and the phone won't boot. Tried long holding the power button, battery pulls, pulled the SD card (for lack of anything else to try). Nothing has had any effect.
Does anyone have other ideas? I'm at a loss. If it's dead, it sure chose a strange way to go. Any advice would be very appreciated. I need this thing for work and home. Many thanks.
Just after posting I went back to playing with different chargers and power button pushes. The white HTC logo flashed for a second and the phone vibrated but it went right back off. It's the first sign of life I've seen, but I can't get it to repeat or go further.
This happened to my sisters Evo when she first got it last summer. Luckily it was the battery and HTC shipped a new one for free. The warranty on the evo is 15 months so you can try and request a new battery!

I have found one similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913258. So maybe it is a dead battery. Been getting amazing life recently, so it seems crazy that it would suddenly be dead. Is this common?
Any suggestions for going to the Sprint store with a rooted phone? Since it's a bad battery, they may not need to look at the phone once it boots. I haven't had to do this before, so I'm not sure what to expect.
if you do go to a sprint store, i would not let them keep the phone or even take it out of your sight. if that happens you may well find yourself unrooted. but thats just a guess. you can get on ebay or any other similar site and buy a cheap battery for less than $5. then if thats not the problem go from there. this same problem happened to me but luckily one of my friends also has an EVO so i just used his battery and my phone worked great. so i just bought a new battery
Thanks for the input. Headed to the Sprint store in a minute to see if a battery will solve it.
It was the battery. They tested in at the Sprint store and pronounced it DOA. They said they don't normally have spare batteries but they happened to have one, luckily. I was pretty grabby with the phone and didn't let it go for long. Once it started to boot I took it back and they never saw the Cyanogen screens.
Overall they handled it very well. I was impressed with how responsive they were. I was out of there in 10 minutes.
I woke up this morning to find out that my phone won't turn on. I then did a battery pull and the phone booted up to safe mode. Gave it another reboot and it booted to normal mode.
I'm a first time Galaxy owner and Googled what just happened and found out that its called "Sudden Death"?
Any one experienced this on their new Galaxy S4s? Is this normal? Should I have it replaced?
Sudden Death was a "feature" of the S3 (and nothing would revive the phone other than a new motherboard) , the S2 came with Brickbug... If Sammy have messed something up in the S4,someone will have to find a name for it
I would exchange the phone. Hopefully just a one-off glitch rather than a general problem.

Is anybody else getting their S4 i9500 to shut down at random?
Two main things that happened to my device:
1. Dropped from 4-5 feet onto concrete :crying:
2. Rooted and installed WanamLite ROM v1.1
Now I would sometimes pick up my phone and find it has been switched off when I don't remember ever switching it off. Battery wasn't anywhere near out in each case.
I'll take this to mean this has only ever happened to me? It'sonly happened two or three times in a week but still worrying...

No its not just you. I never dropped my device or anything. Even on stock rom ME1. I had device shutdowns twice in two weeks.
One more thing about the shutdown bissue is that when the device is turned on again, its battery gets a big jump of 10 to 15 percent less. You will be able to see it through the battery percentage graph in settings.

I bought the phone for my wife 10 days ago. It has randomly shutdown 3 times since. Once in camera, twice in browser. Updated to ME1 yesterday and it shut down once after. I am going to try wiping and see. Let's keep this thread going!

Besides the overheating and camera making my phone to restart..... i do not have this kind of issue. Hopefully the latest update gets rid of it.
To everyone suffering from this issue:
Guys, update your firmware to either MEA or the newer ones. I had this exact issue before the update but have no such issues now. The update will fix the issue 100%.
Have fun with your S4s

Just update to latest firmware MEA or newer via OTA, Kies or ODIN. This issue has been totally fixed along with other issues like camera restarts and crashes.
