I woke up this morning to find out that my phone won't turn on. I then did a battery pull and the phone booted up to safe mode. Gave it another reboot and it booted to normal mode.
I'm a first time Galaxy owner and Googled what just happened and found out that its called "Sudden Death"?
Any one experienced this on their new Galaxy S4s? Is this normal? Should I have it replaced?
Sudden Death was a "feature" of the S3 (and nothing would revive the phone other than a new motherboard) , the S2 came with Brickbug... If Sammy have messed something up in the S4,someone will have to find a name for it
I would exchange the phone. Hopefully just a one-off glitch rather than a general problem.

Yesterday I had the worst experience on my phone. I bricked it but not only that I used odin and checked the box saying partion something... from there on out my phone would not turn on, go into download mode, nor CW. I had to take it back to the sprint store...
What exactly happened?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
maybe
Was it charged?
Haha yes it was completely charged. I'm certain of that because I was flashing a new rom when I got stuck at the Samsung screen and tried to odin back. I'm not a noob to the process is just don't know how i got a black screen showing no power and no sense of life. I killed my epic basically haha

It's likely that your misuse of Odin overwrote the partition that "contains" download mode. This would make a rare, truly bricked Epic.
I believe thats what i did. Ive used odin many times just to get back to stock. Man was i stupid when i took it into the sprint store. I forgot to clear out my sd card. It took them an hour and a half to finally find out that i rooted the device. They replaced for freeeeeeee this time only.

Same thing happened to me the one time. The phone was totally dead. No lights, no download mode, nothing. I left it on the charger for the night expecting to go to best buy the next day to exchange it for a new phone. About 5 hours later I decided to see if I could turn it on and viola, the phone responded and got into download mode. I don't think the battery was dead either because my battery was fully charged before I started the process. My Epic is a fighter
Hi, this is my first post here. I bought a samsung galaxy s 2 two days ago. In the first day, it was fully charged and in airplane mode. I left it on at home for a day and after I came home, the battery was flat. And in the second day, it happened again. I didn't know why.
I found out it rebooted again and again by itself. What I saw on the screen were lots of error messages.
Why was it like that? This phone was using stock version KE7.

Who cares it´s under warranty and maybe you can even just return it to the shop
Hi all. It seems i have managed to hard brick my SGS 4. I flashed the German ROM last night downloaded from sammobile and everyting worked perfectly untill this morning. The battery had 80% and i pluged in the usb on my computer to charge it (i have done this for several times without any problem) after 5 min i saw that the phone was dead. Tried several chargers and nothing. The phone just wont start (even download mode).

this guy ..... man ... shattered !!
i'm sorry to hear that , try you luck and take it back say its DOA !!
they'd have to believe you
Somehow reminiscent of the S3 Sudden Death... I really hope that Sammy haven't yet again done something wrong with the eMMC firmware (and that's actually one of the reasons why I haven't ordered a S4 yet, particularly given the ridiculous sim-free price)
Assuming a USB jig would work to put it in download mode, have you tried that?

One more died in Bulgaria. I was hoping that this is individual problem, but...
Return it.
Keep it simple, left it charging and it went off on itself (which is what actually happened).

That is terrible...feel for you mate! Yeah, just bring it back and claim complete ignorance (assuming you can't fix it). What's the worse that can happen?
I think we will have to include the SDS and memleak patches just to be safe..
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help with the problems I'm having.
Here's the rundown. Rooted my phone and installed a google edition rom almost immediately after buying. Unfortunately, though, as time went by I'd get frequent reboots with any GE rom I tried so I decided to go back to a custom TW rom. But I'm now getting another problem which is really odd. Basically, on a fresh factory reset 100% charge the phone starts up fine and works impeccably for the whole day until the battery goes down to 20-30%. At this point it either shuts off or gets stuck on the black screen with the white Samsung logo. It will reboot but as soon as it finishes loading up it either reboots again by itself or gets stuck on the Samsung screen. I've even tried the stock 4.3 rom and it does the same thing.
Any ideas as to what it might be? Any solutions?
Thanks
You have a faulty battery. Check serial number,if it starts with BD this is a recognised faulty batch.
If you plug your phone into charge it should boot up fine yes?
Buy a new battery and call should be good mate

I believe its the battery as mine did the same thing until i replaced it with a new one.

More odd behavior
...Taking out the battery and putting it back in stops the bootloops and allows it to start up normally again till the next charge. Any ideas because I'm not sure it's the battery? The battery lasted nearly 2 days on a full charge yesterday and went down normally this time to 0% before turning off
So... This issue has happened to me 2 times so far.
I recently traded my iphone 5 mint for a Galaxy s4 mint, Had the guy @ AT&T check over both phones.
So i looked into issues with G4 after the first time it happened and thought maybe it was a battery issue. So i purchased a new battery off ebay.
My original battery looked fine and basically new, Model B600BU, got a new battery model B600BZ(Verizon model). Works fine with my phone, NFC works and everything.
My phone was FACTORY the first time it happened. This time it is ROOTED and it happened with the new battery.
It has only happened while it was plugged into the charger, the screen would not turn on but the BLUE light was blinking.
I could turn the device on and it would basically start up fresh... But I need my phone on, I use it as a WORK alarm...
Any ideas?
Ive only had that issue with crappy kernels. I dont believe its a issue known to the s4. Never happens to me. Maybe flash a rom or kernel and see if that fixes it

A factory reset should set it straight. It's not that it is shutting down, it is just freezing in the wake up process. It may be the kernel or the software itself. What firmware are you on?
