I got the t-mobile wifi calling app running but it only says Enabling. I wonder if this won't work on the N1. I am giving it a try though. So far it's not looking good.
From what I have been reading we may need a radio update for this to work.
Thx for the app, so far it seems like it can't connect to Tmobile's backbone.
Ditto. Download fails each time
Edit: downloaded but not connecting. Is there anything special to make it call through? Then again I am using a nexus on T-Mobile.

well maybe not but it would be nice!

Same here... Stuck on enabling.... I switched over from a bb9700 and loved the UMA on it. It was my only reason for being hesitant to switching over. If i can get wifi calling working on my vibrant that would be awesome. Tmo service is so sketchy at my house wi-fi calling is necessary!

Interesting...it appears to be working for me also...I'm running cm 6. Not showing any 3g or edge. Also not showing a continuous "enabling"...lets me straight into the app with no probs.
Edit...oh...now its cycling though the "enable"...sorry for the mis information
Are you guys on tmobile? I want to know if this is carried specific and if I can get this running on another network

I thought it was working...but I was getting hooked up to t mobiles network still...the phone was showing I was connected to wifi...but I still had network coverage. Guess it was still using the network for calls and text...so my case was a false alarm.

Just sits on "Enabling..." forever.
Sadly, it also got caught by WatchDog as 62% CPU usage...
Seems like some people have said they are more trouble than they are worth. I have two Evo's in the house. I don't really have signal issues but the support dude said he would send it for free so I bit.

can you use the airraave as a wifi router as well and connect it to a cable modem for internet access, or does it only work for Sprint's network? I would love one if it was like an all in one broadband/mobile network hotspot.

It's fantastic if you have real signal issues in your house. I would be a very frustrated customer without one. I can't imagine what trouble people have with theirs; I don't even think about the damn thing 99% of the time.

I'm pretty sure my problem is this....Calls placed with google voice cut off after 30 minutes
so the support guy reset all my crap, new prl, redid the activation, all the normal stuff they do. I doubt it will fix it, and he connected me to the other dept that is going to send out an air rave. I don't have great signal, but I don't think this is the issue. Sounds like it is worth trying out though.
seeing issues with ROM's
works great with stock firmware; seeing issues with CM7.0 and CM7.1 where it doesnt automatically find the air rave without my typing in *99
I used mine for a week or two, then got rid of it, too many problems. First off, the damn thing is a total bandwidth hog. Since there is no way to control what phone numbers get to use it, ALL my neighbors were apparently on it, using all my bandwidth all day long. Second, texts on both of my phones would randomly not send and not receive. Third, your phone's gps will be off. The airave puts out it's own gps signal, which is over a mile away from where it actually is, therefore your phone thinks you are a mile away, which makes using google maps to navigate somewhere a pain.
I spent hours on the phone with airave tech support, these are all "features" of the airave...I.e. the airave is programmed to give your phone a false gps reading.

I'm assuming you tried using the online option that allows you to restrict all phone numbers besides the one on your account & weren't successful with it?
The difference has been night & day since I did that, speed wise on the rest of my network. It still goes out every once in a while, but a reboot usually fixes it & I literally would have no service if not for having mine.

Yes, I tried that, but it wouldn't work. I then called Airave tech support, and was told they stopped letting you do that because they were having problems with it.

How do you do this? I have noticed that when noone is using the phones, the signal light on the Rave is blinking like someone is on it and I didnt know what that was. Also the bandwidth in my house no is horrible. I cant even watch a video on Youtube without it stopping to buffer. If you can help me with this so I can change the settings that would be great, Thx.
That really sucks, I just moved and get horrible signal but I do not want to use an Airave if it basically means all my neighbors will bog my network way down!
Signal is horrid where I live (for any service) so having the airave is a must.

If you read my post just a half inch above yours, you would see you can't do it anymore, airave blocked that feature.
I love mine, we could not use our phones in our house at all until we got ours. our neighbors live far enough away that we never have anyone using our signal, and I have pretty good internet so I doubt it would do much anyway.
Sprint offered me an Air Rave a while back ago, what exactly does it do though?
Enhance your 3G? does it work with 4G?
I have an airrave and it works great! for the most part. Lol.
I'm making this post because I need some assistance...I've already searched around this forum for a few days but it seems like I may be the only one with this issue...
I got the phone a few days ago, from day one I noticed I've been having network issues. By that I mean every time I try to use any apps that require data such as facebook, youtube, instagram, chrome, google now, and especially speedtest, my network would die for about 10 seconds as it reconnects.
All bars drop, I get the message of "network unavailable", and slowly edge speeds come back, followed by hspa.
I have tested this throughout all parts of Los Angeles already.
I have also replaced the micro sim card twice.
I also hard reset the phone back to stock.
Also reset the APN settings.
Two other people I know of in the area, their Nexus 4's work perfectly fine.
I'm all out of options, the T-Mobile tech support team is also out of options, i was recommended to send it back to Google but I don't want to do that unless it's absolutely necessary as a last resort.
I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with this issue or any suggestions as to what to do?
Thanks so much

Seems like a similar problem to what I'm having. I always just randomly lose reception. Reception is already really really bad for me, but it seems like it's whenever I pick up the phone the network goes out. It's really getting on my nerves. Most places in my house I get no reception. But it's the weirdest thing that happens. I can be sitting on the couch using my phone, and have no bars. But then I set the phone down on the couch to go grab something from the fridge and when I come back I'll have received a text message and I'll have like 2 bars! But then the second I pick the phone back up reception goes out again.
This has been going on for the last month for me, and it's especially bad at work but almost nowhere else.
I think (though I have no concrete evidence) that it's because of their ongoing 1900mhz refarm.
Someone should call tmo and find out.

I've experienced these problems on AT&T (MEdia Net, not DataPro) as well. It happens regardless of how good my signal is. I haven't experienced the other problems you are a time else mentioned.
On the NPR app, it results in some sort of error such that I have to reboot to get the NPR app working again. The app doesn't say something has gone wrong, but it won't load any audio and will hang after waiting.
The signal drops, then picks up again and goes straight to HSPA+:15. This happens to me on the road quite often and I just switch to onboard music rather than fiddling with my phone while driving. The issue has occurred a few times while in Maps, but thankfully I knew how to get back from where I navigated to.
EDIT: Just want to clarify to the poster below me that this occurs REGARDLESS of how good my signal is. It happens when I have better than -50 dBm (I think -70 gets full bars, although I've even seen full bars at -90!) so it can't just be a low signal issue.
I'm pretty sure this happens to all nexus 4s unfortunately. Anyways that is in a poor connection area had this happen.
This happens to me at home. Bounces from 0 to 3 bars constantly. But if I'm outside in an area with strong signal I never go below 3 bars no matter how I hold it.

The first couple weeks I had the N4, I wasn't experiencing any connection issues, but for some weird reason they started last week. It wasn't even fresh after I flashed a new ROM. I think perhaps it's a network issue that is somehow specific to our unique phone and plan combinations and our areas. Anyone using AT&T's MEdia Net plan in Georgia?
I think you guys may have gotten my issue a bit confused, what I'm trying to say is my signal fluctuates depending on location like normal, however only when I use apps that are solely dependent on internet connection, my entire network goes down.

Yeah that's what I'm encountering as well. I wonder what these other guys are talking about?
My network goes down regardless of whether I'm doing anything with the phone or not. I could have just the screen on and it'll be lying on the table and I'll see it go from 2 bars to empty and eventually back.
It's especially bad at work where I have terrible signal to begin with.
Forgot to add.. my coworker with an HTC 8x and another with a Galaxy Nexus are getting the same issues.
So, it's a network problem for sure. I'll post this on the tmo forums tomorrow and see if I can get any official word on the matter.

I experienced something similar on my N4 and called T-Mobile tech support. They had me power off my phone and they "reprovisioned" or "reprogrammed" my data connection or something like that. It's been better since then.
Posted on t-mo forums, let's see if they can be of any help.

last night after midnight my phone suddenly couldn't get a signal from t-mobile. i thought i screwed it up, but then i took the sim and put it in my galaxy nexus and it had the same issue. so i went to bed and in the morning it was working fine. i suspect t-mobile was doing stuff to their network in my area
Having the exact same problem today in Manhattan near Bryant Park. Can't keep a stable signal at all and data is connecting only in bursts. Hopefully this will be fixed soon or I'll have to look for other options than Tmo and my N4

Yes, that's normal. Your phone should switch to HSPA when you NEED data, but otherwise, it's going to be on 3G.
Ok this 3g H thing makes better sense now but it seems in my area it takes a while to reconnect the H so the internet works I wish it would just stay on the H full blast as i have it plugged in so don't care about battery.
And I would love to have the option to shut off 2 g, not just 2g only, i but i will figure it out.
Otherwise this phone has a strong signal where i am but i wish it would just stuggle on HSPA+, even if it drops out rather than switch to edge on me.

Where I live there is a pretty crappy signal, on my blackberry, i have it on "3g only" now i get a steady internet but at like 2 bars. I wish I could do this on my nexus so i can tell the phone HSPA+ only, that way it will stay connected to that only, when it lost the signal it does switch over to GSM/EDGE
In other words, at home I have a strong GSM signal and weak HSPA+, it wants to drop to 2 g all the time, that sucks. My blackberry just struggles and keeps reconnecting to the 3 g, this is much better for me.
I just wonder isn't there a way to have all the available radios listed, a app better than "phone info" as it doesn't do this so it is like
GSM/EDGE
3G
HSPA+
UMA
LTE
and you can check a box and you phone stay on that network ?
I notice in a network monitor app that my phone says it uses
WHSPA
UMA
GSM
and
UNKNOWN
so it is flipping threw radios because of the weak signals, maybe the phone is faulty i don't know
When my nexus is on HSPA+, even with no bars it is crazy fast compared to waht i am used to, even if the signal comes and goes it take to long between
changing radios or whatever to get back on the 4g

Every T-Mobile phone I've owned has done this. Including the nexus one.
Initially the nexus one didn't show the change in the status bar. CM added the change and I'm not sure if stock did that later.
The sgs2 doesn't show the change in the status bar. But its happening. T-Mobile just leaves it showing "4G" for marketing and to not confuse people. Because it obviously does. I can't tell ya how many times I have answered this question between the galaxy nexus and nexus 4.

Alternatively you can change the 3g icon to an H or 4g as well. Just extract the systemui.apk. copy the H icon and rename it to whatever the 3g icon is called. Wrap the apk back up and push it back.

This happens to me and it causes a problem. It is a brand new Nexus 4 and I am on Wind Mobile in Canada.
The 3G/H switch actually causes me problems - every time I go to use my phone's data, it takes maybe... 15 seconds and a few attempts before I can get online. It happens every time I go to use my data.
It's extremely annoying as you can imagine - what can I do? Is there any way to force my phone to remain on H all the time?
I am running stock 4.2.2
thanks

I think I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm with Telus in Canada and I experience the same thing. Except for me the network always sits on HSPA, and when I go to use the data (in any form - IM, reddit, browsing) it switches to HSPA+ before loading the page. And that transition takes several attempts and 15 seconds sometimes. I've been searching for a solution ever since I got this phone. Glad to see it's not just me (or even Telus it seems)...
I used to have an HTC Desire, and the same sim and APN settings on that phone did not have this delay. And the only difference I can think of is that the Desire stays on regular HSPA, whereas the nexus switches to HSPA+ when a data connection is attempted. I have read some posts for Samsung devices that allow you to force it to use only HSPA. It was like typing *#30179# or something and getting a menu, but that combination does nothing on the Nexus4. Will keep searching, collectively I'm sure we can figure this out!
My phone never shows 3G.. only H or E.. goes straight to E from H. Weird.

OMG I'm so glad I found your posts. I'm on Fido (Montreal) and I'm having the same issues. It takes a while to switch from 3G to H sometimes, and sometimes it just seems to not switch at all! For example, if I'm in WhatsApp and I send a message, sometimes it'll just stay there waiting for a good long time before it's actually sent. It's like the phone doesn't "realize" that there's an app requesting to send/receive data! Super annoying, and definitely an issue that can be reproduced. It happens to me in WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook and even the Gmail app.
same issue here... it takes almost a min to transition from 3g to H and visversa

Why does my phone show full signal yet all apps that use mobile data either run shockingly slow or not at all!! My steam app is constantly reconnecting yet signal is constant! In BBS it's showing i have good signal for a matter of minutes and is mostly showing poor or unknown signal nearly the whole time the phone is on!
My set up is the latest AOKP rom and faux's kernel

Could be you only have full bars of 2G data speed. You are either being throttled for excessive use from your carrier or your carrier only has 2G speeds where you live. Where I work the entire county only has 2G Edge speeds from AT&T even though their coverage map shows 3G for the area. Check your data type and speeds with an app like Network Signal info.

Happens to me a lot as well. I show full 4g and yet everything times out and wont load because data is so slow. I'm also in a good coverage area where i get 12-14 Mbps speed with other phones and when this one is acting normal.

The towers you are connecting to are probably overloaded. Thin of them as a wireless access point at your house with 1 internet line. If too many connect to and use that line, the connection gets slower. Would be nice if cell providers posted tower stats in your area. Would save a lot of angry calls

I think in my situation it is not this. My wife has an HTC one s and my brother a sgs2 and they will have great data speed while i have dead slow even though we are on the same carrier and in the same room.

Happened to me on stock, cm, aokp, and now pa. I don't know what it is. I just hope an update will fix it.

Glad im not the only one suffering.. I didnt really have the problem on stock so much.. just since unlocking and flashing new roms.
To the person who mentioned carrier throttling, its certainly not that as one minute i'll get full speed and the next (youtube for example) will just stop and start saying no signal retry and then if i turn the phone off and back on again it will work. How can a carrier throttle you when you only have a 2Gb usage limit and then they charge you afterwards that makes no sense.
Also its not a 2G problem as Signal checker shows 3G and also now EE all around my area. Besides my wife's S3 on the same network is getting full speeds where im not or anything even though im apparently at full strength H
I hope this gets sorted soon as its also affecting calls.. I'll have what looks like full signal while playing a game then suddenly a text to say someone tried ringing me like 3 minutes before!!
probably switching from HSDPA to HSPA+.
did you notice a H on top of your signal bar, that switches to H+ when the lag is over?
I have had this problem for a long time, since I got my Galaxy Nexus and now again on my Nexus 4, and finally got so fed up that I have been testing it all day and getting screenshots ready to make my own post about this so I am pretty relieved to see this post!
I live in Philadelphia and use T-Mobile. I have had T-Mobile here for years and never had this problem before. When they upgraded to 3G I had amazing speed boosts and when they did HSPA+ it got even better but that was on a G1/G2. On my Nexus phones the internet is damn near unusable in center city but what is so odd about it is that in my Google searches about the problem I can only seem to find posts raving about T-Mobile in the city and how Philly keeps getting improvements including the new improved 1900Mhz HSPA+42 but I have never even seen my Nexus 4 on the +42 network the best it goes to is +15 and even that makes no difference because the internet is so slow and unrelaible that unless I am on Wifi, my phone just sits in my pocket useless.
I'm really at my wits end about this and no one, Google or T-Mobile seems to take responsibility or have any advice on how to fix it except the pointless factory reset.
I've seen a brief mention on XDA about a fast.tmobile.com APN and I changed to that and I'd like to imagine that it showed some type of improvements but certainly not with data speeds/latency/integrity of connection. If anything, it may have improved signal 'strength' (used lightly because regardless of what my strength is listed as the connection sucks.
To be clear, I am connected to HSPA and HSPA+ when the connection is being used, like it should, but these are the best speeds I managed to get throughout the day today as I moved around campus trying different spots.
Please, someone have advice!!
Could it be kennel related? Did you guys try just being on stock ROM?

I am using the stock kernel, stock radio although not the stock ROM. I am pretty sure I had this problem before I rooted (I say pretty sure to be conservative with my answer since I am not 100% sure but I am definitely 90%)
Is anyone confident about their knowledge regarding APN settings? I have seen like 15 different configurations for T-Mobile's APN and have no idea which one to try and would prefer not to just go through them one by one -- I've got things to do!

Again.. I'm pretty sure i didn't have this problem while on stock but i could be wrong. My GNex was exactly the same. And I'm on orange UK so completely different network to the T-Mobile USA so surely can't be random that we're both having the same problems

I had the same slowness over cellular, 9kbps or so. I changed APN's, rebooted and just got 2463kbps.

Will this only work for at&t users though?

I'm on stock 4.2.1. Phone is rooted and boot loader unlocked. For about two days now I'm having signal drops from 4bars, then greyed out 4 bars and jumps between H to 3G. Settings for LTE revert to WCDMA every time I lose reception. Also dialer crashes/ force closes if I have an incoming call and sends all calls to voicemail. I can dial out but at the end of my calls when I go to hang up I see the popup that phone process crashed.
My carrier is Bell Canada and the phone worked fine for about 10 days before this started happening.
Any tips or advice to help me out is appreciated. Thanks.
