serious lag (video inside) - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

When watching video reviews of the tab it seems to be much snappier than mine. I bought mine at NYC its white 16gb and no unlock icon when powered on.
About to return it for another.

Don't mind the crazy lady talking at my work lol

How does it run when not using a live wallpaper? Have you tried resetting it?

I experience the same thing with and without the live wall paper. Resetting it as in turning it off and then back on? Or is there a factory reset and is so how?

You need to factory reset. Mine was the same way.. after resetting, smooth and silk.
Settings -> Privacy -> Factory data reset

Honeycomb is still a bit buggy if you ask me, mine hasnt been that choppy though even on live wallpapers.

It depends on the live wallpaper too. Luckily my new fav (that blue one from google's 3.2 update) is very smooth.

I went into the recovry and did a wipe of everything and it appears to be running smoother but im still not sure it matches the video reviews ive seen. I wonder what makes it lag in the first place.

It can be any number of things. Certain apps you have installed, how you have your settings setup, ect. Also, are you using it in portrait? This causes more lag with screen transition than in landscape. Another thing to check is if you have it plugged in while doing these things. Some people have reported slightly more lag when using it while it's plugged in. Hope some of this helps.

it can also be your launcher. Try adw or launcher pro. Mine doesn't run that bad. My first tablet was super slow with a dead pixel... I returned it.

[Q]Performance Issues

I have a Verizon Tab and am experiencing very slow performance on my device. I'm experiencing very slow transitions between homescreens and application screens list-pages, touch screen unresponsiveness, media scanner takes like 15 minutes on SD card(its not SD card as I took it out). When I first got it, it was as everyone else described it as being with a few hiccups sometimes, but nothing like I am experiencing now.
I did a soft reset and even a hard reset. Installed OCLF and uninstalled it as it made no difference in my situation. Wondering if I could flash an original firmware or a different firmware to see if that fixes the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
update:
Kinda weird,I got tired of trying to fix my tab and charged it up and turned it off and put it back in the box and didn't plan on messing with it until there was some custom roms(had to enjoy my thanksgiving) as I couldn't sell it like it is. So, today I decided to turn it on and it's back to its normal speed but battery was at 0% for some reason(odd as I charged it to about 87%) .
I think something went wrong with my nand/install or something as whenever I'd boot up it ask me what language I prefer(eng or espanol...no hablo espanol) and I'd select english then it would just go to the home screen(but it's suppose to ask you for your gmail account and so fourth) from there and sluggishness would ensue. I also have verizon service/3g now for some reason(I don't have a plan for them).
There's one thing though, a few buttons(home, search, menu) don't work as they didn't work before but the back button does. I am not too worried about that as I know it's not hardware related because they work in recovery but... and the notification bar is unresponsive. lol
I didn't like the response time of the home screen when I got my Sprint SGT so I replaced it with LauncherPro from the market. It is so much smoother now by my perception.
Not sure about your overall slowness but you might want to give that a try.
Also, I have heard that the Verizon version of the SGT is bloatware city. I can't confirm since I have a Sprint model but just relaying what I have read.
Yeah, I tried launcher pro before and still get the same type of lag.
I'd try rooting and removing the bloatware, or freezing them if you have titanium pro. Freezing will leave them installed so you won't miss any ota updates.

You know, I love this thing and overall its on par with speed on my incredible but the quadrant score is ****. My device got about 1000 when my phone gets 1400. dunno what Samsung did to this thing lol.

That's because Quadrant is a rubbish benchmark. You can OCLF and see a massive jump in Quadrant, but it won't actually make the Tab any faster in the real world IMO.

This was exactly why I took my Verizon tab back and got a Sprint one instead.
I would try a factory reset, then de-bloat though, who knows what wonders it may have.
I would not really recommend the OCLF, that's just my personal opinion though, others may suggest otherwise.
I do stand behind Launcher Pro. I love it
Been thinking about the Galaxy tab the last week or so. So yesterday went over to Carphone Warehouse to have a play with one. I was particularly interested to find out about the flash in browser performance which I have heard isn't so flash.
I have a HD2 with MDeejay Desire HD Android ROM running on it and flash on it is very smooth.
I have to say the Galaxy Tab seemed a bit more sluggish and just seemed that bit more cumbersome to navigate around.
Anyone else have a Desire HD and Galaxy tab and tell us their thoughts.
The android system is all about user imput. Its rough and it supports a whole load of chipsets but it needs a little cunning to get going. And, for now, it simply cannot be as fast as ios or windows 7.
Its all about cool cheap stuff. And sticking it to apple!
But for me this is a sign of conceptual maturity... it is a risk happy system that believes its on the way to glory.
I like that

Is the homescreen choppy for everyone?

I went to best buy a little while ago and they had a XOOM display sitting all by its lonesome getting no attention, so I went over to play around with it. The apps seemed very snappy, but switching between homescreens and flicking some of the widgets was quite jerky and choppy.
Is this everyone's experience, or was it just that one XOOM?
I haven't had problems with chop. I have noticed very minor stutters with some 3D effects, but they're barely noticeable.
My experience has been buttery smooth man.
No chop
Same here. Everything has been very smooth!
Interesting. I wonder if it was because it had been left on since 10am.
I even starting trashing widgets from the home screens until all that was left was a few app buttons. Didn't help any.
Mine is fine. The only thing I have noticed it that the screen rotation is slow.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Screen rotation has always been slow on Android. Doesn't bother me.
Screen rotation on my infected evo is very fast. Almost too fast. Just Ned to wait for virus to make xoom roms. Won't happen but would be nice

It's choppy/jittery for me using Dolphin Browser. I'm still playing with the thing, so I don't know what else is doing it.
When I put my Xoom in portrait mode, it is laggy for sure 100%, but in landscape is smooth.
Anyone else seeing this?

It's normal, Dolphin isn't yet accelerated by the GPU, like the Chrome browser.
Pretty smooth for me, I noticed a bit of choppiness, but it appears to be random.
I wonder if the demo unit at Best Buy is different. I know that it lost wifi connection with Best Buy's routers while I was there. I asked someone about this and they said it had something to do with the demo unit. Whether that was true or not, IDK, but it worked perfect with tethered to my phone over Wifi.

horrible UI lag with Samsung theme

Hello, I have been playing with my new S7 edge a couple hours now and am liking it in some ways and wondering why the heck I paid 2.5x as much as I did for my 1+1 in many others. This maybe be a small thing, but I'm on the fence about returning the thing and going with a 6P instead, so hopefully some kind soul will help me confirm if my problem is my device or some software thing.
So, it seems that using any of the themes from the Samsung Store that contain an animated lockscreen totally bugger the S7. Here are steps to reproduce:
1) Go to the baked-in Samsung store, it's a Galaxy Essentials widget 2 screens over on mine
2) Choose Theme Store at the bottom, then AoD themes. Pick one with an animated lockscreen (Night Sky AOD and PixelQuest_AOD are two)
3) Download one and apply it. Lock phone and attempt to enter a pin.
At this point, my phone becomes almost unusably laggy - the only way I can get in is with the fingerprint sensor, and that even lags. Again, while this may not be a huge deal, it blows my mind that this $800 phone can't handle these 10 frame animations, especially since I was able to do similar on the 1+1 quite easily.
Thanks for any words of advice or confirmation on if this is a wider issue than just my phone. note the issue is gone after reverting to the stock theme, which wouldnt be a problem if I didnt hate the brightness - even the settings menus are much more readable to me with one of the themes I mentioned, other stuff aside.

I have shineblack AOD, it lagged exactly as you described. Then I turned off aod and it no longer lags. Well it still lags in Chrome but that's another story.
Hmm, so the lag goes away without AoD? Great, thank you - must just be a software bug they will (hopefully) correct soon then.
Edit: tried switching off AoD in display, still the same lag.. guess you meant switching off the theme
Don't know what I am doing wrong or right lol but my phone didn't lag at all. I tried night sky and pixel quest.

Well.. that's depressing then Thanks for the result though. The phone I got is a Snapdragon. It feels like it's struggling in several other ways to me - ie, install bars going to 80% and sticking there forever, phone gets warmer than my 1+1 ever did running emulators etc just sitting on the homescreen, etc. This lagginess seems portentious enough that if others respond like you, I will just return and swap for a 6p. So yeah, thanks again
Well I have the Snapdragon too so don't know what's going on. Bit I'm on T-Mobile so don't know if it will differ per carriers. But it does seem like you are someone that like pure vanilla Android and if that's the case yeah you might want to get the Nexus phone.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
No I still have the theme on. It was lagging when AND was on, but since I turned AOD off pressing the home button, scanning a fingerprint and unlocking the phone happens in 2 seconds with no lag. Maybe it's just the theme you were using, Idk. It's still really early on for this phone, I'd expect a release day update. But if this chrome lag and page refreshing keeps up I'll likely be returning this thing within the 14 day limit. My $400 MXPE performs better.
Ok, thanks guys. I'm on Tmobile as well - just did a factory reset and still have the same prob, so meh. Enough of an omen for me to get out while the getting's good.
When I had the S6 Edge Plus I noticed that there were a few themes that caused lag but then they were eventually updated by the creator and the lag went away.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I tried 4-5 different themes and i "feel" lagging with only white theme of tech section in Samsung themes.
QQ. Are you all rebooting right after you install new themes? I noticed on the S6 that this step was critical even if not directly recommended.

Did you use the AoD enabled themes? (always on display) - it only seems to be the ones with animated lockscreens that cause the lag, the Dino theme in that category does not, for example

I have rebooted several times, yeah. Also tried clearing cache and even a factory reset, with the same problem (just rushed into the samsung store and got a theme after the reset)
Are there any updates out already or anything I might be missing? Dont get why I'd have this prob and not someone with the same device/carrier like the guy posting here before, unless I just got a skunky phone or something Think I'm going to head to the T-Mobile store tomorrow and make them try it on one of the test units..
My lag came from when a theme applied a live wallpaper to the lock screen. I changed that back to a static paper and all is good again
@nukularpowar yes i have aod in every theme i tried. With England and others 2-3 everything was ok and very smouth but with white theme i found a little laggy from aod screen to unlock screen, also the scrolling seems to be slower than the others themes.
I've tried an AOD theme, I got no lag here using the Exynos variant

Lag and micro stuttering on stock launcher [VIDEO]

This is my unit (Exynos). Do you have the same behaviour?
What people don't understand is feature packed (bloatware) launcher will always stutter compared to vanilla. Just look at how many services are running

I know that on the graph, anything over the green line is a frame drop, but it was somewhat hard for me to notice without the slow down video. Doesn't seem too bad honestly.

I had stuttering and poor battery life, wiped and it all went away.
these are not framedrops depending on bad performance or bad programming. its implemented badly thats all...
if you swipe lets say from the buttom to the top and finger always on screen there is no framedrop... even if you do it fast.
if you let go before animation is over then the break happens...
its just poorly done... just finger on screen all the time...
I've bought a galaxy s8 and this kind of lag is anoying. I can feel the same problem as you. Some scrolling apps stutter too.
I think it has gotten much worse after the latest update with May patch level. The device is super stuttery for me, apps force close all the time. I reverted back to the FHD resolution, cleaned cache partition and uninstalled almost everything I dont need. Didn't do ****. Super annoying.

Its true
I've had a S-835 and two Exynos and none performed like your videos. But I never recorded them in slow motion either. The performance you get has a lot to do with what you freeze, what apps you're running, and your settings. The more people "customize" their phones the more problems it seems to create sometimes.

Again, I had a U.S. version, a pink UK version that got returned, and my current UK phone. I used the two that are gone for two weeks each and all three phones were configured identically with over 100 apps and four push e-mail accounts. None of them lagged or stuttered in app openings, transitions, or scrolling. I see you're in Latin America so maybe it's a regional issue.

Pie lag?

Anybody know of a fix for the ridiculous amount of lag on Pie? Between that and the sad excuse of video recording, I'm really debating on going back to my buttery smooth Z2force. The only problem is this phone is pure eye candy, comfortable to hold, and my hands have betrayed my eyes recognition of the lag and fell in love this phone. . The performance is more like snapdragon 620 than 835. Any help regarding this situation would be highly appreciated
I have no lag on Pie, beta 3 or official. Sounds like your due for a full wipe
Well now that sucks considering I just moved about 90gigs to the device and thought I did a full wipe but just notice Alexa still installed. The funny thing is I had very little late lag on Beta 3.

You're only saying there is lag, you're not describing where you are seeing this lag?

If I were you, I'd wipe everything, and then fastboot the full official pie update. Just to fully eliminate software.
Hi there I am the same boat like you . I got lag typing on keyboard scroll is not smooth at all .I tried reinstalling the latest build and factory full reset pus wipe all data .I can't resolve the lag I think they rush to get it in the same date like the pixel but is not optimised for this device for example get an icon and hold it and get it to place it in another location you will find out that the icon is behind when you move it
The only and I think temporary fix is by doing this
Go and click 5 times on build number and go in developer settings you will find there touch sensitivity set it to 10 let say default is 4 I think . You will improve touch latency a bit .
I just bought the device I don't know how it was on Oreo but I can say on this pie build official is not smooth
@mookiexl got to the Developer Options;
Windows animation scale - off
Transition animation scale - off or .5x
Animator duration scale - off or .5x
Also increasing the 'Touch Sensitivity' increases the scrolling speed.
Play with these and watch it fly! LOL
It would be great if someone can take a video so we can actually see this lag with our own eyes.
I just got my phone and it turned out bad, sending it back, new one on the way. It makes me wonder now if all the stories about bad hardware is true on these phones, since I've never had a bad phone ever in my life, then my first Essential turns out bad.
Wifi problems connecting
Statusbar icons appearing in white, turn all black
Phone speaker, bad quality, can't even turn it up, or it gets distorted
Head speaker, is low, volume isn't loud enough
Adaptive brightness doesn't work
Volume got stuck at one point when it was set as all the way down, no sound, then I wasn't able turn the sound back on, nothing would happen on either buttons...
So hopefully new phone arriving will be better, and from this experience, I think I'll keep it on Oreo for a long time, until people start raving over Pie.
And between a SD625 and this SD835, can't say I saw a big speed difference too... hmm

I hear ya brother. To be fair I haven't had any of those other problems I heard about before buying the phone besides what's mentioned in this thread. 3rd party camera apps with full manual control drastically improved camera quality for my device. If you want to see the lag I'm taking about just YouTube it.
As far as SD625 and Sd835, there's a huge difference for me being a power user. Lots of gaming, editing videos, download big files, or even just transferring data from internal to external sd you will definitely see a big difference in performance during any memory extensive task.
@mookiexl
Do you know any YouTube videos with the same issues you're having, you can show us?
I only found one for Camera Portrait Lag.
Fastboot install of 9.0 over the official July 8.1. Magisk root.
No device lag or issues with WiFi, volume or any of the things above. The only lag I see is my own getting to grips with the UI changes.

It sounds like you're both having some kind of install/integrity issue. Did you test the checksum?

All I've done since receiving the device is take all system updates and then unlocked bootloader which in turn wipe data. See the video I posted for details. If you have another SD835 device to compare it too try tha,t or better yet don't because it will make the lag very bothersome once you know its there.
That video is a year old. I have no discernible lag even with upward of 20 apps in the background, but I'm not saying that you don't.
Also, I had this and a Google PXL at the same time up until a few weeks ago. If anything, the PH1 was better, smoother and faster.
I've got serious lag... Keyoress lag, stuttering during scrolling. Could it be because of RAM usage? The stats in developer options say that I using 3.4 out of 3.9 gb on average....
