Can't wait ... I will most likely get the Kaiser. My buddy just bought one and I unlocked it for him. Sweet phone. Much much smoother
the tilt or any phone that doesnt have 1700mhz 3g wont work on t mobile. just so you know the mhz spectrum t mo is using for their 3g is exclusive to them, they paid alot of money for that privilege. so if youre getting a 3g phone to use with the upcoming tmo 3g you better make sure its compatible other wise youll be stuck on edge.
so there is nothing that can be done to the wing to make it connect to 3g

Nope, it's like asking if there's anything that can be done so that you can fly your car. Technically, with enough money, knowledge and skills YEA, lots of stuff... but realistically, no. Unfortunately, it's a hardware that's just not there.
What?? is that the same for unlocked Herald too?

An unlock Herald is like a car that has been converted to run on E85. Just because it can run regular petrol/gas or E85 doesn't mean it can fly. (Sorry, I'm in a metaphorical mood...)
But it just won't work.
at the moment there arent alot of phones that can run on tmo's 3g, and as far as i know theres no smart phone or ppc (official ones) that are capable using tmos 3g. but dont worry im sure theyre gonna surprise us with something. i personally am gonna try to wait until the android platform comes out before i jump on another $300+ phone.

4G CONNECTIONS ON YOUR CURRENT PHONE. NOW! MAYBE
Posted by Simon Walker on 17th March 2010
via ANDROIDSPIN.com
Well isn’t this just the week for wild rumors and tipsters.
We just received an anonymous tip informing us some of the carriers have been testing 3G/4G connectivity using existing cell phones that we already own. Apparently the carriers have piggy backed a different signal on the existing cell towers and this signal may be available for us to use.
We have no idea how valid this rumor is but we’ll be doing more investigating to see what we can find out so stay tuned for any updates. I sure don’t want to miss out on the opportunity of getting a 4G connection on my G1 and Nexus.
If you’ve heard anything, please leave us a comment.

I am already working on implementing this into my ROM, it still is intermittent but I definitely can confirm a 4g connection.

are you talking 3.5G aka HSPA 7.2?
Its gonna be a good 6 months to a year before most of us even get the HSPA tower upgrades.
This is exciting!

I know they tested random towers (Baltimore) and have been rolling it out to some areas already... but I haven't heard any hype pointing to LA getting it yet.

I can confirm this in the Seattle area. we just launched hspa 7.2 upgrade in some networks and at the nok in snoqulmie BUT its not launched yet maybe you could gain intermittent access but not all the time. plus it would waste battery switching back and forth just an fyi might work really well downtown though.....
this was one of the reasons for the radio upgrade. and some of the phones on tmobiles network already has the hardware needed to access hspa
so what exactly is going on? My phone currently support 3.5G or HSDPA

in all actuality they are expanding there 3g hspa (high speed packet access) witch theoretically can reach speeds of 48 mbps but we will be moving to LTE before we reach those speeds. plus LTE will be cheaper
This is definitely something very interesting, I would love to run my nexus one at 4G.
I am a newbie Android addict (ditched my iphone for Samsung Captivate w/AT&T) and LOVE it. I'm also new to this site so please forgive if this has already been covered but I couldn't find it.
I would love to get the new Samsung Tab as soon as it hits the U.S. market but no way do I want to pay for an additional data plan. Will there be a way to tether the tablet to my Captivate? And if so, how? I am desperate for an answer. Please, please someone tell me if this is possible or not? Thanks in advance!
Robin
what will happen is you are going to have to pay full price.. 649 for one with no contract. You can root it (captivate) and tether via wifi using tether app.... then when it (the Tab) gets modded to use voice (which I plan on) then you can mod that rom on and then put your sim into the TAb..
pretty much my plan except on tmobile.. and i would be tethering with my g1
This also is my plan, but on AT&T and tethered to my Aria. But this depends on whether or not the required phone hardware is installed on the US version and can be accessed with rooted ROM.

Hm? Is it confirmed that the US version would still have voice capability? Last I heard someone was suggesting to wait for people to take it apart to make sure the hardwares are all there.

AFAIK there will be WiFi-only and 3G version in various different flavours, as well as a CDMA version for Sprints aging technology.

Indeed
If you aren't going to use the data line, then tbh I'd just wait for the wifi only version. No reason to pay extra for something you won't use. You will still be able to use the wireless AP on the captivate to tether.

Did you ever make a cellular voice call from a 3G-equipped laptop? No? Well thats because there is no audio in/out from the 3G module in a laptop. The wires are not there. Its definitely possible for Samsung to neuter the tab in that way if they want to...
Anyone have any ideas if the 3G will be worth it, there are some discouraging posts over at the notion ink blog, in the comments section, about the bandwidth limitations on the 3G models and them being selected for you, instead of allowing us to pick our own.
(I am one of the ones that did not get a pre-order in on time)
It would be considered a new contract on AT&T so you would not have unlimited data. Also in the US it is only for AT&T
Why thank you for that, being a sprint person, and an Android lover, AT&T is certainly not something I want to deal with, at least that helps me with my decision, I'll just have to use a USB Sprint 4G adapter... :

If you have an android phone I would recommend root it and install wifi tether. Rooting is a very simple process for the EVO at unrevoked.com and I am not sure if it will have support for a usb adapter. You might get the MiFi that is coming to Sprint soon.
Interesting topic. Since I am also on Sprint, its probably better off just getting the Wifi version and wifi tether to the EVO or pdanet. Now when Traveling overseas where Sprint doesn't work (except Jamaica and Taiwan) I guess the wifi will have to just do.

Can you tether an Android device to an Android device? I have purchased EasyTether, I use it for work when I have to drive between states, but did not know they made an Android app to tether to, I thought it only worked on PC's. I'll have to go to their website and look into it.
On Android if you root it you can install a WiFi Tether application that allows you to turn your phone into a hot spot without having to pay Sprint.

I have it on my Desire (yes it's rooted, but I think the hotspot functionality was part of the original ROM).

It is a standard feature but the service providers locked it down so you would have to pay them to use it. The nexus one and s are the only ones that have it enabled.
You can pick your carrier with the adam
Rohan's interview on Android Police states:
AP: Regarding the 3G model, how many frequency sets are being offered? In the US, AT&T and T-Mobile run on different 3G bands, necessitating at least two US 3G models.
Rohan: Initially we offered only one 3G module which was suited for AT&T, but then when customers requested we changed their models. From next pre-order everyone will be given an option of deciding their own 3G module for a specific frequency.
So, if you have already pre-ordered but want a different carrier...email them and provide your order info with your carrier preference. If you pre-order now you will have an option to indicate your choice
Data limitations will be determined by cell carrier not this device. And yes, every company but Sprint has a limit on data right now. Come to think of it, Sprint might have a limit for their USB hotspot and for the devices that have an EVDO radio in them, not sure on that.
Regardless as others stated, if this bothers you just wifi tether. But I have a Chrome Netbook with a verizon connection in it and I love it. Not having to deal with wifi tether all the time is nice.

I know i'm jealous as well.
I just ordered my Adam and the only model left was the Pixel Qi 3G version. If I had a choice, I would have gone wifi only because I don't have AT&T as a carrier (I have Verizon). Was it just me that found a lack of info on the website about the 3G carrier requirements? It wouldn't have changed my order (because I ordered to late), but it seemed a little vague. I'm still stoked to get the adam though.
Cheers!
I'm just making this thread for the future. If its possible if people can tell us if they have gotten their atrix working on t mobile and how they did it and if hspa works because it does have the bands for it according to the Motorola website. Thanks for any info.
Yo I got it to work with simple mobile with their 4g. Just go to gsmhosting forums and buy a code from their advertised sites. They email it to you in 5 minutes, just input imei and that it.
So this phone would or wouldn't work on t mobile? I know in the past I haven't bothered with ATT phones on TMO because the 3g is at different frequencies...but if the phone is 3rd party and supports all the frequencies then theoretically this phone should work on TMO, as any other phone would.... Anyone know for sure though..?
Thanks for the info. Now just for t mobile to make sure. I know simple and t mobile almost the same but I don't just wanna go and spend 550 and be stuck.
Simple mobile uses the t-mobile towers so lol yeah ! As I said I got it working with simple mobile and they have 4g too.
Can you do a speed test for me? And where and how much was the unlock code? Thanks.

Well he may just be confused a bit. After it's unlocked it will work on T-Mobile, but not the 3G/4G due to the band differences. So it won't be worth the $599 if you don't get to use the fast speeds.
Of course not.
