Can't wait ... I will most likely get the Kaiser. My buddy just bought one and I unlocked it for him. Sweet phone. Much much smoother
the tilt or any phone that doesnt have 1700mhz 3g wont work on t mobile. just so you know the mhz spectrum t mo is using for their 3g is exclusive to them, they paid alot of money for that privilege. so if youre getting a 3g phone to use with the upcoming tmo 3g you better make sure its compatible other wise youll be stuck on edge.
so there is nothing that can be done to the wing to make it connect to 3g

Nope, it's like asking if there's anything that can be done so that you can fly your car. Technically, with enough money, knowledge and skills YEA, lots of stuff... but realistically, no. Unfortunately, it's a hardware that's just not there.
What?? is that the same for unlocked Herald too?

An unlock Herald is like a car that has been converted to run on E85. Just because it can run regular petrol/gas or E85 doesn't mean it can fly. (Sorry, I'm in a metaphorical mood...)
But it just won't work.
at the moment there arent alot of phones that can run on tmo's 3g, and as far as i know theres no smart phone or ppc (official ones) that are capable using tmos 3g. but dont worry im sure theyre gonna surprise us with something. i personally am gonna try to wait until the android platform comes out before i jump on another $300+ phone.

Why yes, the HD works great on all the 3G networks here in the US that support 900/2100 MHz.
Which is none.

They Made it clear to the public that the were not going to do such a thing. I live in Florida, I imported mine anyway, just cause.
I must say though, I also have the g1 which supports 3g and I don't notice that much of a speed difference because Opera mobile does such a kick ass job of rendering web pages.
Though, if your intertainment relies heavily on Youtube vids, than don't get the HD unless you have plentiful Wifi networks around.
I love my touch HD, the lack of US 3G don't really translate to much.
I hope you find this helpful

I am very confused here, many people are saying that the HD does not support Northern American 3G speed. And again some websites say it does. boygeniusreport.com say that it does.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/12/19/htc-touch-hd-easter-egg-att-compatible-3g-bands/
if you go to htc.com and look up the frequencies it says
HSDPA/WCDMA:
*
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
* Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
*
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
(Band frequency, HSUPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent.)
AT&T 3G networks operates on 850 and one more 1800 or 1900 not so sure. I also called htc and asked them if it will operate on AT&T 3G network and they said yes. Some posts online say that supposing it does not function on US 3G network you may be able to tweek the phone to a certain frequency..What do you guys think? I am so close in getting the HD, but i do not want to get a phone that does not work on AT&T 3G network
Any help would be much appreciated.
IT DOES NOT WORK ON AT&T 3G NOR ON ANY US 3G FOR THAT MATTER. I loved my HD but got tired of waiting and waiting if someone could open the usa 3G and had to admit to myself that the Iphone 3G is indeed the best phone out there. As much as i would say i hated the iphone i was completly wrong in saying this. So if you live in the us and use the internet and like games do yourself a favor and go the same route.

dude, stop telling people to get the iphone. people here are adults, and dont want a little kids toy. jeez, take your iphone and go to the iphone forums
yeeeh ..tell me this..why the hell would i want to get a phone that just not take video, no bluetooth file transfer, no copy..and much more..
its just amazing how stupid people are to fall in love in a stupid phone like that.
I got an HD yesterday and have it on AT&T and I have to say I'm really impressed. I'm going to put it side by side next to my Fuze tonight and see what kind of a hit 3G speed does to it but I didn't feel it was any slower than my Fuze on 3G going onto the net... YouTube was a bit slower to load initially but I didn't get it to play YouTube. The screen resolution is so high it really reminds you how poor YouTube quality video tends to be
oh and of course, there is no 3G on the HD
using operamini (best browser imo) there is almost no difference in speed. i only notice the lack of 3g when downloading big files or streaming youtube. i have wifi readily available in most places, so not a big problem. i cant imagine the battery life with 3g, so maybe its a good thing we dont have 3g
With the same network (HSDPA 2100), I've noticed that I can browse faster using my HD as a modem with my laptop; I think that the device is sometimes slower itself in displaying internet pages using opera.
about the 3G Network for North America, I can see
I have in the phone - options - BAND these:
1. UMTS (2100) + GSM (900+1800)
2. UMTS (850+1900) + GSM (850+1900)
3. UMTS (800+2100)
4. UMTS (850+2100) + GSM(900+1800)
5. UMTS (850) + GSM(900+1800)
and I can't see WCDMA (UMTS) 900 Mhz
Is there someone who have really tested the Blackstone under the following bands:
HSDPA-UMTS 800-850-900 Mhz
------------------------
HTC HD
ROM 1.13.401.0 (20428) ITA date 10/25/08
radio version 1.09.25.14
protocol 52.49a.25.26U
Will the Australian version work on US 3G. I have been reading the their version operates on same US 3G frequencies
if...
if i had a dollar for every thread on the Touch HD and the US networks...
turns out ill just have 6 dollars...
search please before posting this... or moderators please make this sticky...
Also, try the skyfire browser on the Touch HD.... (u will have to dig the forums for the alpha build that supports the screen resolution), the text isnt as sharp as opera... but so much faster.. in my tests... about 2.5 times faster than opera... (not opera mini) ... and browse to a youtube video... and then to break, or others.

Whoa whoa im sorry you get your feelings hurt so easy. It is my opinion, i loved the hd i really did but i also love 3G, being able to see my phone in sunlight, not having to finger tip/finger nail touch and i also love having games. Trust me i didn't want to get rid of the HD but now i dont regret it. I used to hate on the iphone ALOT to. And yes i dont have bluetooth transfers but i do have video. Once windows mobile makes improvements maybe i will go back to an HTC. Now if i wasn't in the usa and the 3G worked where i was i prob wouldn't have an iphone now. Also $199.00 Iphone 3G> $700 HTC HD Edge. And im not big iphone crazy person just made more scince. And also im sorry i should have said in my first post "a JAILBROKEN iphone is the best phone out right now."
Anyways back to the topic. What about the Aus version did that ever come out with us 3G bands????

If it has at least 1 of the usa 3G bands (850,1900) and you live in an area that uses the band the phone has then yes it will work. My guess would be that if it does have usa 3G its going to cost an arm and a leg.
im looking to buy this phone but would it work with the tmobile 3g
it works perfekt with 3G in Germany.
depends if your in the US or not, the 3g band is a diff frequency there.
if you mean the normal hero not the sprint one.
ya i mean the normal hero for the american 3g for tmobile
nope the normal eu hero wont work in the states, the 3g frequency band is different. you would have to wait for the different shaped sprint hero.

That won't help - Sprint is a CMDA network, so Sprint phones will not work on T-Mobile US at all, let alone 3G. For starters, there's no sim card......

ya but its suppose to come with windows 7 which from what i have read is going to be really good
There is zero chance that the Leo will ship with WinMo7, given than WinMo6.5 isn't out yet and the Leo is due to ship this month! Therefore, you can be pretty certain that the Leo is going to have WinMo6.5 on it.
Don't expect WinMo7 until the middle of next year.

Forget about 3G from T-Mobile USA.
Nothing is going to work with it except T-Mobile branded 3G phone.
If you want capacitive screen your only options are G1 and myTouch.
Actually even AT&T's 3G doesn't work with EU Hero.

No.
T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100 UMTS. Current HD2s will only support the 2100 band, and T-Mobile -- uniquely -- requires both bands because one is bound to upstream and the other to downstream.
You'll have to wait for the T-Mobile HD2 if you want 3G.

just wondering at what website did you purchase yours? and how much u paid for yours, ive seen in many sites there about $690
I bought an import HD2 from the UK and use T-Mobile network in the US.Where I live (Texas) it logs in on the E network band, but recently made a trip to San Antonio and it logged in on 3G.
TMOUS w/ EDGE
Same as above... I am on TMO US with Edge and its working fine for me. I also couldn't wait till it hits US.
BTW I have the unlimited Edge plan for $5.99 ( grand-fathered plan ) so I am happy and works better for me instead of switching to thr $29.99 plan.
I use epc.tmobile.com as the APN and speeds are decent.

If data is a big deal for you wait, you've waited this long...
I am in the same boat, I could import now and keep ATT edge, or wait for it to hit T-mo and switch over to a contract free plan. As I use a ton of data a month I will be waiting for full 3g.
If you live in area's with wifi you can mooch off of that, sadly most of the places I am do not provide that so its 3g all the way.

I have one it does but unfourtantley I dont have an 3g signal and I already talked to tmobile they put insurance on my phone so when the 3G version comes out I will be able to swap it for that one instead of paying extra for it.
I'm just making this thread for the future. If its possible if people can tell us if they have gotten their atrix working on t mobile and how they did it and if hspa works because it does have the bands for it according to the Motorola website. Thanks for any info.
Yo I got it to work with simple mobile with their 4g. Just go to gsmhosting forums and buy a code from their advertised sites. They email it to you in 5 minutes, just input imei and that it.
So this phone would or wouldn't work on t mobile? I know in the past I haven't bothered with ATT phones on TMO because the 3g is at different frequencies...but if the phone is 3rd party and supports all the frequencies then theoretically this phone should work on TMO, as any other phone would.... Anyone know for sure though..?
Thanks for the info. Now just for t mobile to make sure. I know simple and t mobile almost the same but I don't just wanna go and spend 550 and be stuck.
Simple mobile uses the t-mobile towers so lol yeah ! As I said I got it working with simple mobile and they have 4g too.
Can you do a speed test for me? And where and how much was the unlock code? Thanks.

Well he may just be confused a bit. After it's unlocked it will work on T-Mobile, but not the 3G/4G due to the band differences. So it won't be worth the $599 if you don't get to use the fast speeds.
Of course not.

Hello,
Maybe you guys can help me clarify something for me. I want to buy this phone and get the unlocked version. Only problem is no matter which seller I'm looking at on Ebay they're all saying "3G Not compatible in the U.S" which means I'll be running at 2G and I actually considered this ok because i really want to this phone. But I want to know why it won't work? If it's a GSM phone and it would work with AT&T & T-Mobile my local carriers why wouldn't it give me 3G speeds?
I really want this phone because I wanted something different, something you won't see out here much. Plus I wanted to get back to Sony phones after playing with other manufactors. Can anyone help clear this is up for me?

For the same reason that a T-Mobile US GSM handset won't give you 3G on AT&T - it's the wrong frequency.
Most of the world uses the 2100MHz band for UMTS/HSDPA but AT&T are awkward and use 1900MHz and 850MHz and T-Mobile are even more awkward and use the extremely unusual 1700MHz band.

No, the LT15i doesn't support the AWS (1700MHz) band so it won't support T-Mobile US's 3G service.

T-Mobile also uses 2100
Hmm I thought that tmobile U. S used the same 3G bands as europe. So in theory it should work right?

No they don't.
T-Mobile's 3G uses a ~1700MHz frequency to upload and a ~2100MHz frequency to download, this is the '1700MHz band', also referred to as 'AWS' or 'UMTS band IV'.
Compare this to the '2100MHz band' ( or 'UMTS band I') which uses a frequency of ~1900MHz to upload and a frequency of ~2100MHz to download. The two are not cross-compatible.
The LT15i supports the 2100MHz band but not the 1700MHz band, so no 3G on T-Mobile.
If you don't believe me, feel free to read this thread on T-Mobile US's own site.
People with handsets that only support the 2100MHz band don't get 3G service.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
You obviously know more about this than I do.
I do believe your first two statements are contradictory.
You state "no they don't" and then go on to say "they use a 2100 to download"
All other SE "I" version phones work with T-Mobile 3G, correct?

They never make anything the same. They may work or they may not. You should pay attention to every details of any product you are buying, no general rules existing with any product specially gadgets which they get a new technology everyday.

I can see why you might think that but it's not contradictory because band and frequency are not the same.
If we look at the specs for the Arc, it says says '3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100' (that's the LT15i, the line below is the frequencies supported by the LT15a).
Those numbers refer to UMTS bands I and VIII as listed here.
As you can see from the page on Wikipedia, every band operates on two different frequencies, one for uploading and one for downloading. This is to avoid interference.
So even though the download frequencies of the 1700 band and the 2100 band are the same, the two bands are not compatible as the upload frequencies are different (sorry for all the underlining, it just makes it easier to explain...).
It would be a lot simpler if each band's upload and download frequencies were distinct, it would be far less confusing but I guess there's some sort of reason why things are the way they are...

I don't think so, not unless they say they support the 1700/AWS band.
Basically, unless a phone's specs say it supports 1700MHz for 3G (or mentions AWS support, which means the same thing), it should be assumed that it won't give you 3G on T-Mobile US.
Though this all starts to become even more confusing when local roaming agreements are factored in but I don't really know anything about that to be honest.

Hello,
Maybe you guys can help me clarify something for me.

In short:
LT15i: 2G will work just fine on both AT&T and T-Mobile. 3G will NOT work on either network.
LT15a: 2G will work just fine on both AT&T and T-Mobile. 3G will ONLY work with AT&T.
so my concerns is..if i am using T Mobile right now...it means I am doomed right? Even the new T mobile 4G(whatever they wanna call it) wont get me the right internet speed to blast the phone?

I am not sure that went completely though. It is still hanging with no solution...

if i assume they are not sharing frequency..the only way for me to enjoy 3G/4G internet is to use AT&T?

'4G' has nothing to do with any of this - that's just speed, it doesn't change which band T-Mobile use.

They're not.
The merger hasn't even been approved yet, let alone any sort of migration of customers.
If the merger is approved, you're talking anywhere from 1 year to 3 before you see any real-world differences like the ones you're suggesting.
...um...I am doom-ed then..
I read their press and their said the deal wont close until the end of the year
Assuming the regulators allow it to go ahead at all.
There are, rightly so, concerns about a single national GSM-based network and the knock-on effect that would have on competition.
seems like I got a smart phone that not gonna be that smart

tmo uses 1700 downlink and 2100 uplink. phone must support both freqs to get 3G. LT15i does not support 1700, hence 3G will not work.
