Old Rumor "Samsung Galaxy S2 I9200" - Might be True !!!

i am sure you all remember after the release of Samsung Galaxy S, a Russian site disclosed information about proposed Samsung Galaxy S2 with following specs.
4.3” 1280x720px Super AMOLED 2 display
2GHz CPU,
1GB RAM/4GB ROM
32GB of built-in flash memory, +32GB microSD card slot
8 megapixel camera with FullHD video recording

Many thought that its fake or fan-boy gone crazy...well they must think again cuz samsung has announced some amazing news last day.
A "DUAL CORE A9 1ghz Processor"
The system-on-a-chip (SoC) is codenamed Orion, it is based on the dual-core Cortex-A9 architecture from ARM, and will have the cores running at 1GHz. Samsung claims it will be 5 times faster in graphics rendering than its current Hummingbird.
Full HD video recording and decoding at 30fps, support for cameras up to 18MP, and support for up to three displays simultaneously - two on the device itself, and one external HDTV, for example, via HDMI-out. The Cortex-A9 chipsets also should deliver 30% reduction in power consumption.

specs are just the max of what we could imagine. That's why I am skeptical. Talking about 3.0 when 2.2 is not final on the I9000 - that's a rather bad sign.

they will for sure give up on some specs when releasing the phone. and it will also depend on competitors product.
gingerbread is reality. android has already started spreading rumors abt Honeycomb (next version after gingerbread).

Whether the source is legit or not... I wouldn't be surprised if most of those specs are true.
We haven't heard of a "Super AMOLED 2" yet, but it would be a damn fine screen if it say, fixes the color banding on current pentile amoled (maybe use the RGBW I've heard about, that'd be awesome xD) and other issues (improve battery?)
Personally I think the current SGS size is perfect, so a 4.3" screen.. well they better have absolutely no wasted space around the screen lol.
It would also have to have hdmi out, either micro-hdmi or more likely the same connector as the galaxy tab.. and on that note, these specs sound very similar to the tab on steroids (tab already has confirmed gingerbread update + 1280x720 screen iirc).
If they release it (assuming it exists) in <6 months though, I think most of us would be a little mad though.. lol.
EDIT: OMG. maybe "Super AMOLED 2" could one of those foldable AMOLED screens... that would be pretty sweet haha!

If they can achieve the screen then nothing else listed is really that mindblowing, particularly if OPs sources are accurate (OP, I didn't read them, too busy). @Froyo/gingerbread, Froyo is supposedly ready in a fashion that they can use it (and have put lots of work into getting apps to scale) for the tab. It's fairly apparent that the Galaxy Tab has been the focus of their software department for the better part of a month, but we will reap part of those rewards even if it has partially delayed our Froyo...it's definitely not too early to talk about Gingerbread, particularly if Samsung can work with Google (Google might be very interested if they like the Galaxy tab) to become the next Google-Experience Device.

I agree on 4.0" being the sweet spot, then again, before big devices become in vogue I wanted the 5.0" Streak until SGS was announced.
In the other thread about this topic a user said, 4.3" makes the rumors less likely because why would Samsung switch sizes (I know that's not what you said but I'll paraphrase my reply to him anyways). ...'I completely disagree. First, perhaps it was too hard for them to fabricate 4.3" in a device that they expect to sell like the SGS. 2nd, what percentage of Samsung's customers will upgrade from a 4.0" to a 4.3" 6 months later, they are trying to hit a different niche that perhaps opted for the Evo or would prefer a 4.3" if they were out of contract.'
As far as the progression of smartphones go, the faster the better, make my device obsolete tomorrow and that means the newest ones are nearly literally mini-laptops...I wouldn't need one for the duration of my contract. I'd only be jealous of the screen, and that is a jealousy I can live with (and probably pay a premium to switch devices for). Everything else, I'd be able to live without, and I bought this device thinking "This is the one I won't worry about for a year." Shorten that to 6 months and touche Samsung, you've done your job and done it well. The way the smartphone market is these days if they don't do it someone else will (well, they prob cant do screens like these for at least 12 months).

Looks pretty awesome to me. I absolutely agree, 4" screen is perfect. 4"3 is a bit too wide, not as easy to hold in one hand.
But i mean, let's be real, all of this depends on the software they'll put in it. Samsung is getting much better at supporting their smartphones but still...
If this thing gets a good OS / support then it will kick ass (look at the X10 still on 1.6...)
AND, who knows what competition will have out by then. Maybe a new iphone 6 with even less buttons

Samsung Galaxy Tab (10.1) Coming Soon. Similar specs?

Well, I just got a tweet that this tab is coming this spring. It is EXTREMELY STYLISH! Its going to have the anticipated Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) OS. Sounds interesting. Anyone plan on getting this tablet? How do you think it will affect the G-Tablet market?

Good catch. Its amazing that they're creating tabs now a days without the basic features such as USB and HDMI. Again, this puts the G-Tablet ahead of the game.

AND No SD card slot, SIM CARD only.

Dont forget the high price also..

The reason for no USB/HDMI is cause they want to sell you a docking station probably for $100 with those ports, as for the no SD card, thats just dumb, but maybe they will be releasing different units with higher capacity and that would make sense to not release a unit wiht an SD slot.

Personally I wouldn't miss the lack of usb slot. I can easily copy stuff via the proprietary usb adapter or wifi explorer etc. I've also never found the need to hook up a tablet to a TV for HDMI but I guess that's a requirement for some. As for the potential price - yeah that could be a killer. Still, lots of options on the horizon. We'll soon see which ones stick...

Don't forget about the upcoming Kal-El quad-core tablets. They're "promised" to be shipping by August, which means manufacturers are already working on them.

they are not prromised they will ship by August, They promised that the manufactures get it in August and then will the devices come in Q1-Q2 2012.
But anyway i think im gonna buy this, if the pricing is not to high. Clove.co.uk has set it to 600 £ atm, but that is just a guess from them, but if that is the priceing im gonna buy it.

Has anyone heard any substantial rumors about the next version of Galaxy Tab? I'm hoping for at least a much better processor (maybe quad-core?) and a HD Super Amoled Plus screen. Any news on this front?

There has been no announcement or leak as of yyet but this is a competitive market. Asus are releasing transformer prime soon with kal-el so Samsung won't be too far behind. So yeh it'll definitely have quad core. As for the screen, I think it'll be too expensive and not feasible to have a HD super amoled plus sscreen which is greater than 5 inches. I think the current pls screens are great and just about keeping the tabs from being overpriced

Agreed. Current IPS screens are very nice and can still be improved. I'd love to see a high ppi display on a tablet but probably not cost efficient yet. As for the chip, anything other than a tegra2 will be fine heh.

The 7.7 has a SAMOLED display so I'd imagine 10" is feasible. The HD SAMOLED's (Galaxy Prime, Note, 7.7) have a PenTile display vs. RGB in the SAMOLED+ in the SGS2. I haven't seen one at a higher resolution yet but PenTile sucks on the qHD displays on the Moto 4" phones. SAMOLED also suffers from burn-in and with the amount of time a tablets display is on that could be an issue.
It'll be interesting to see what SoC Samsung uses in their next generation of tablets. Comparing Exynos to Tegra in dual-core, the Exynos blows it away. I'd go as far as to say a dual-core Exynos at 2Ghz is probably as fast or faster than a quad-core Nvidia at 1.5Ghz. It's cheaper for Samsung to use chips they manufacture so I'd imagine they're working on something to compete with the quad-core Nvidia. The 7+ specs say "1.2Ghz dual-core" but doesn't specify which processor. It'll be interesting to see its performance if it's Exynos running on 3.2.
Unless they've kept it ultra secret, there won't be a second-gen Samsung Tab before the holidays. I'd guess it'll be out late Q1 next year. I'd rather keep my current G-Tab until Samsung comes out with something new than jump ship to Asus just for a faster processor.

If they give you a quad core for the same price as a dual core with better performance and better battery life, then why not.
I think they are doing this to make it more competitive in comparison to the new iPad. By giving it a quad core, the average person thinks it would be better than the new iPad since many people have a "4 cores are better than 2" mentality from a marketing standpoint. If they also have data numbers to back that up, such as better benchmark scores, etc, then that would help. It would still be a challenge to convince the average person, however, that Android on a 10.1 Note is a better experience than iOS on an iPad however, but if they can show the advantages of the S-Pen, better performance for gaming, and other such things, they might be able to get a better foothold on the tablet market.
Apple definitely has a dominance in the tablet market, but in a few years time, Android tablets will start to significantly eat at this lead just like it did with the smartphone market. By offering choices and differentiation from the iPad, and in the case of the Note: S-Pen functionality and the better quad core CPU, and with better pricing than an iPad, then I think we can see the Note tab doing well.

The Note 10.1 is great all around, the only two places it lacks (in my opinion) is the low screen resolution and the 16:10 aspect ratio of the screen. I will never buy a tablet around the 8-10 inch size that isn't 4:3 in screen ratio. If Sammy came out with another edition that fixes both issues I would seriously consider picking one up.

With the current quality control on superamoled, that is a nightmare for a lot of users including me. Im pretty ok with the pls screen after using my friend's tab for a day.

No issues with the price, i wonder if they will also go with a quad gpu.
Ios tablets apps are a bettet experince compared to andriod apps, used a friends ipad2 for a week and found all of its apps significantly better compared to andriod, imho.

+1 on aspect ratio.
I still using my tablet 4:3 1440x1050 because of the aspect ratio.
If I cant get 1920x1200 I dont want then 16:10 in a tiny tablet.

I like 16:10. Its perfect for reading and browsing the web. But i only will upgrade my 10.1 tab if the resolution doubles to 2560*1440

For a tablet with a Pen which will be mostly used in portrait mode to scribble on or for playing board games like chess, 4:3 aspect ratio is much more suitable but not much so for watching movies, so each has its own cons and pros,it comes down to what suits ones need more.

ICS UI runs on a separate thread (read: core) wherever possible where as GB chops it about - hence the lag. As soon as games on ICS start utilising the extra cores, 4 will be better than 2!
To be honest, its only likely to be intensive apps that you'd notice any difference - and that probably means gaming. If, like me you use your tablet for Web browsing, watching videos and only occasionally for games 2 cores is plenty. Having said that, everyone wants new tech for speed and product lifetime.

No,but this beeing my first Android phone,not counting my HD2,and from what I have seen I would rather go for a two highly clocked and simultaneously running cores,and a big sized battery.

Its all games and Android Java apps are Blazing fast.
And yes more cores is better.
Android is a well done multi-core architecture. Its SDK make you use multi core features.
So we need all the cores we can have. Even GB or Froyo can take advantage of a 4 core processor.
Just a quick fact.. my galaxy note right now has... 173 process running.... so.. I guess that multi core isnt bad at all kids.

Looking at the hardware it looks like a clear win for the Tab 7.7.
For those looking for LTE data: supported by both Verizon's Tab 7.7 and iPad Mini LTE version
So, to summarize the iPad Mini:
The Good: light weight, good back cam
The Bad: front cam, no expandable memory, no USB peripheral connectivity, no GPS
The Ugly: 162ppi (in 2012) is going to be pushing it when reading full size PDFs, non-uniform bezel not really great design choice

The only good thing here, is that there will be a lot of accessories for the ipad mini and there is a slight chance that some of these might fit the 7.7 .
I do feel that samsung might come out with another amoled tab in january at CES but I could be wrong.

I hope so too. A 7.7 successor with stylus, 1920x1080 (286 ppi) screen and wireless charging would be a game changer.
Accessories wise I'm pretty happy handling the device without any bulky covers; and the screen protectors won't be compatible, not sure what the Mini could contribute..

I'll pass on the Mini, if only to have it just play with. One dealbreaker too many -- no microsd slot. End of story.

7.7 original innovation. Ipad Mini same as ipad 2 but smaller no innovation. And waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to expensive for it to compete with anything else. Sure the 7.7 was over $600 US but I would gladly pay that anytime over a shrunken down version of an old product

Give me a 7.7 Nexus that has an annual software update and isn't discontinued and I think I'll be happy.

As long as some people from Team Hacksung don't jump ship, we'll have newer OSs. The 7.7 is mostly the same as a Galaxy SII, and almost the same as a Note. Both devices are being worked on by people from the Team, and most of the Exynos 4212's stupidities are known and somewhat understood. Although our device isn't as well supported as the Note, we will get whatever CM version the Note gets; right now locerra is working to avoid the rough edges, but if he stops doing so someone from the community will step up. We won't get a TouchWiz Android 4.2+, but we will get it (and future versions) on AOSP.

A 1024x768 4:3 screen vs 1280x800 SAMOLED+? It's not even fair.

Apparently the Mini doesn't include a GPS either, whereas the Tab7.7 comes out of the box with GPS enabled Google Maps. Then add (compass enabled) Streetview and Google Earth (and compare it to Apple maps w/o GPS) and it's not even a contest in this category.

I would say the nexus 7 is better based on the specs I do not like apple products at all but will probably buy the iPad mini when available to test it out and see how good the screen is compared to the nexus

I just bought a gtab 7.7 and am well within my 14 day return period. Here are the reasons I am not going to get the ipad mini:
- GPS. How can apple not include this? Unbelievable.
- screen quality. While I have not seen the ipad mini, I love the display on the gtab 7.7. It is the best I've seen on any device.
- build quality. Better than any android device and at least as good as the ipad.
- expandable memory.
- haptic feedback. I love to use this while typing. It amazes me that apple, amazon and Asus do not include this on their devices and nobody complains.
The primary advantages for apple in my eyes include :
- great app eco system and developer support.
- warranty and service are Lexus like... at least in my experience.
So I'm keeping my gtab 7.7. This replaces my old school gtab 7 that I've had for two years.

besides the app ecosystem, the tab 7.7 wins on everything to me.
to get an equivalent cellular model, with 64gb space (to compensate for no microsd slot) you'd be paying 600 bucks for the mini.
the tab 7.7 is a year old as well and it still kicks the llama's ass. samsung nailed it, was ahead of the game, but somehow didn't know how to market the best tab in this size range.
i really wish that android apps would catch up on the tablet-optimized space. the apps taht are tablet optimized are a much better experience than blown up phone app interfaces.
i personally wish google would put some android specifications that all manufacturers have to follow. enough so it is easier to develop for without affecting the different choices we can get.

That's why he have Paranoid Android - to change per app DPI.

I just installed Paranoid Android v2.5. It's a very good ROM. You can change the looks from tablet mode to phone mode, or hybrid mode - phanblet mode.
