[Q] Power button stuck - Eee Pad Transformer General

I love my transformer so far, but my power button has gotten stuck. its kind of annoying. anyone got a similar problem or knw how to I fix it? I don't think I want toi open it up.

My power button is not stuck yet, but I've noticed it's getting harder and harder(requires little bit deeper) to turn it on.
Maybe it's matter of time before it gets stuck...
It is very very bad now...
It's out of return period and I may have to open it or send it to ASUS for repair.
AaarrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRR..........

When I opened up my TF, and put it back together again, I noticed that my power button had gone back at an angle and it no longer 'clicked' so I had to open up the case again and put them back into the correct position. It still worked, it just didnt function as it should. It sounds like yours has been pressed too hard at some point (at an angle) and has become stuck in this position. You might need to open up the case to set it straight, as it won't be able to right itself inside.

Have you tried pushing in and wiggling it around as its depressed to see of you can dislodge it?
Also if you don't want to open it to keep your warranty intact why not call Asus and have them take care of it?

exec goes into continuos loop thing

Just got a s/h exec and I think it is faulty. Whats happens is it starts up ok and works for a while and then for no reason that I can think of it goes into a loop which stops it from working.
When I say a loop I'm not sure thats the right terminology but imagine if you tapped the start button and the start menu opens... and then imagine you tapped the tab button , the next item would highlight. If you tapped the tab button again the next item would highlight and so on. Well its as if the tab button is being hit over and over because all the items in the start menu will be highlighted one after the other over and over again.... it just goes round and round in a loop.
Its possible to escape from this and go to another screen but the same looping will go on in that screen too.
If you switch off and leave for a while and come back to it it works ok for a short time and thens starts the carry on again.
Sometimes if you just wait a while it stops, but will start doing it again even if you dont touch anything.
I've noticed one way to force it to stop is to slide the volume button... this seems to stop the loop and allows normal function for a while.... then the crazy looping starts again.
Has anyone seen this or know anything about it.
Nope sorry, maybe you can have it replaced where you bought it as from your post, you can recreate the problem easily.
Side Note : Have you tried Hard Resetting? Or installing another ROM?
I have tried hard resets and factory reset... problem remains.
Will try new ROM.... just trying to figure out how to do it !

Just download a new ROM form imate or something, unpack all the files in the ROM update to a directory, put the attached file in same directory.
Enter bootloader mode (Backlight + Power + Reset Hole) you will see SERAIL on the screen but not backlight so look hard.
Plug into PC, the SERIAL will change to USB
Run the attached file. You will see a photo of an S100 but continue anyway....
Hard reset when finished... DOne
ok have installed latest rom... but exec still doing loop loop
Just for arguments sake, can you try installing Imate's newest ROM?
yea thats the one i have just put on.
It seems to be doing the problem less than before. I notice that it does stop if i press the backlight key or move the sound slider.
I'm wondering if there is dust or dirt got in behind the buttons or something like that... although I would have thought other people would have come across this b4 if that was the problem. The machine is one of the first to come out, although I just got it a couple of days ago.

If you have tried different ROM flavors and still get the same problem, then it is definitely hardware related. Send your unit in and demand for a new one not a repair
Just been playing around with it again and notice that I can make the problem happen if i press any of the keys on the navigation pad except the top one.... and i can stop the loop by pressing the light button.
Weird or what.
My initial thought on this is maybe its got wet at some point
I have opened the xda up and stripped it down to all its parts. No sign of any dampness or dust dirt etc. Dont see anything missing or broken.
Put back together, but still doing this.
Driving me nuts.... its a great machine but is very tiresom to use with this going on.
Another think I notice about this machine, I have never used it as a phone, but I tried putting a sim card in and There is no sound through the earpiece. Only sound comes from the speakers when you set it to speaker phone.
I suggest just return it and have it replaced. It's probably a faulty button. Probably gets stuck whenever you press it.
Doesnt need a button to be pressed for it to start.. just starts by itself... and can stop by itself too.
Sometimes it can for ages without doing it, other times it does it all the time.
Cant figure if its hardware or software problem
GHOST-IN-THE-MACHINE
Yea... maybe I should get a priest !
I had this problem when i first got mine, if you move the sound slider down, then up, it seems to stop doing it for a while, and it hasn't happened in the last couple of weeks atall, maybe its because its new, and just needs to settle in?
Jay
Well at least I'm not the only one to have it.
My sound slider does stop it happening but only for a while and then it starts up again.
The machine is perfect in every other way, its just an annoyance I could do without.
I've tried everything, even stripped it down and left parts out, like buttons, to see if they are the source, but no difference.
I have the same problem!!!!!!!!!
Someone help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have same problem. I send to service but until today they can't repair that problem.

[Q] Help my N1 won't turn on

Hey Guys I really need your help my N1 won't power on for some reason. I really need to get some things off the phone from certain software that I had in case I have to have it repaired or sent away. I'll try to be brief what happened I was exercising with my phone inside a protective case that covers the whole phone and I went to change the next song while listening to music and when i went to push the power button the screen remained black the whole time and I couldn't see anything at all the screen was black the whole time after numerous attempts at pushing the power button. So I held down the power button to try and reboot it and then the music stopped, so then I hit the power button again to turn it on and it hasn't turned on since yesterday. I even took the battery out and let it chill for a min and still doesn't work. when I plug it in to the charger the orange/green light comes on and as well with the USB connection too, but still can get it to power on.
Anyone have any Idea what it could be? I am assuming it's the power button but I am not for sure. Is there anyway to turn it on again in case i need to recover any files, etc. the reason i want to get it to work is that I don't want to have to go through the hassle of sending it away to be repaired if there is some way I can do it myself. I am trying to avoid sending it away with my carrier and I really need to access certain files on the phone if all else fails. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it thnx to anyone.

Transformer hard to Awake

If you are rooted, install setcpu and create a profile for screen off and set the min to something in the middle 300's.
You could also verify you don't have a bunch of apps running.
I don't have that problem with mine. I just look at it and it wakes... maybe your button is broken?
I had the same problem with my first TF. After researching for a while, realized that it's the button. Returned it and got a new one. No problem with this one.
Same problem for me.
At the beginning I was thinking about a feature to avoid unaccidental power-on, then realized it is a bug (it got harder and harder, and after 40 days it ended up completely broken).
Just changed with a new one (thanks, Amazon): on/off button works like a charm on the new one.
I don't have a problem, but on a cold start there is a delay from pushing the button and something coming up on the display.
What I do is hold the button and count to 3 or 4. Then let go of the button. Within 5-10 seconds the information starts appearing on the screen.
When the unit is sleeping, it only takes a 1 second or less push of the button to get the screen back up.

Touchscreen problem.

I bought my TF300 at Amazon June and basically it works well until yesterday.
The sympton is like someone keep tapping the specific areas of touchscreen and never stop, actually i haven't put my finger on ,even i didn't hold the tablet, just put it on desktop.
I had to tried to hold the power button to restart the TF300 several times and finally it looks become normal.
But this morning, when i power it on, the problem occurred.
Anyone have idea this problem ?
Weird. Do you have a screen protector on? If you do, you might need to take it off. If you don't, try cleaning your screen with the cloth it came with, also do a cold reboot (this is done by turning off your tablet then turning it back on holding the volume down button until you see some text in the upper left of the screen, after that just leave the tablet do he's thing, meaning don't touch anything else until it boots up). If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to try to do a factory reset. If that fails to fix the problem I suggest you contact ASUS support or if its still under amazon's warranty exchange for a new one.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I found a member had the some problem. See thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653178
I gotta to contact ASUS local first.
A friend of mine bought it in Amazon U.S for me and bring it to China, which makes me hard to exchange ( International post fee and custom tax).
I had that problem

Mine wasn't picking when I pressed on the screen... I open the back and saw a ribbon cable was kinda loose and held with tape. So I pressed it in and put more tape on it and now its fine with the response from the screen.

Fix for touchscreen issues
Hey guys,
I thought I'd post my solution to the same problem. It is a hardware issue and I figured it was because of how thin the device is. Basically, I noticed it when I would be playing or if the device started to heat up. Since the battery and screen are so close together, I figured there wasn't enough space and that the heat from the battery was making the tablet think that there was a touch input when there was none.
My solution was to open up the tablet and take the battery out. Then I put slivers of foam (about 1/2" x 2") in between the battery and the screen. Since then I haven't had problems with the touchscreen.
I hope this helps you guys with this problem.

Power button behaving funny on Focus ...

My samsung Focus is about 1.5 years old.. I plan to switch carriers at the end my of contract since AT&T is giving me lots of dropped call at the new place we moved to.. The phone is obviously out of warranty, so I am looking to see if I can fix it myself.
The power button on my Samsung focus is behaving very funny lately. When I hit the power button with the phone awake, it thinks I did a "long press" of the power button and shows me the shutdown pull-down image! If I pull-up the image, the phone still reboots...
If I press the power button when the phone screen is OFF, instead of turning on the phone, it again shows the pull-down image, and the same behavior ensues - regardless of what direction I pull the image in, it shuts down the phone.
Some things I have already tried:
I have tried a hard-reset (camera+volume+power, and format the device), but the behavior continues.
I have removed my SD Card (I am using the AT&T approved one), performed hard reset, and problem continues
I have tried a different battery (from my wife's focus), and problem continues
At this point, I am guessing that most likely, the power button connector is loose.. but I am not 100% sure.. Any suggestions on things to try?
Seems like the spring in the power button is gone. I suggest when you want to press it, lean the phone to the right (with the power button towards the ground) so when you press it, gravity helps popping it back.
Or replace the power button.

Tried the first trick... didn't seem to help..
Any tips on where I can find a replacement power button and how I can replace it?
See my response here (and the thread referenced in my second reply). Seems to be one of the issues that appear in time... And in another case it was the battery...

Thanks EnderPsp!
I have ordered a new battery for now to see if it helps.. its a non-OEM battery off eBay.. Don't want to spend too much without knowing if that is indeed the problem..
I can't find a power button replacement part anywhere... I went over the video and the instructions to reach the power button housing does not seem very bad.. definitely do-able if I can find a replacement part..

The button itself is plastic (you can find some on ebay), and I don't know how it works, actually (If it's a spring or otherwise).
I suggest you watch a take apart guide and maybe, just maybe it's just dirt, which you can clean.
You'll know more and afterwards please share the result with us.

And now its completely gone... the power button won't respond at all.. the phone has been shut all day. If I take the battery out and put it back in, the SAMSUNG logo shows up for a few seconds and then the phone turns off again.. No way to turn it back ON using the power key..
I sat down to open the circuit yesterday only to realize that I don't have a #000 screwdriver... the smallest one I have is #00 which is too big for the 7 screws that hold the back panel
Off to Grainger today to see if I can find a 000 driver.. It can't get any worse now, so might as well open the phone!
Sure thing - I will update the post later with what I find...

You didn't say if the same happens with the wall charger connected.
Now, If you're going out, try and drop near a phone shop. Ask them if they can help you test with one of their batteries, either for a Focus i917 or from a Galaxy S i9000
Good luck mate.
Dang i thought i was the only one with this issue...
Mine started acting up about 3 weeks ago and it was seriously annoying especially when driving. I would press the lock button to change songs, but it thinks i did a long-press and does the "slide down to power off" thing. Even if i swipe up, the phone would switch off.
Then today, i take my phone out my pocket to send a text and find it's powered off. Won't even switch on now
Ender:
Plugging the phone in does NOTHING. The screen remains black.
Reinserting the battery causes the SAMSUNG logo to appear on-screen but again, goes black after 4-5 seconds.
Holding down the power/lock button has no effect, it's unresponsive.
I'm so pissed off this is happening 6 months before my contract is up. -_-
Don't know what else to say... I hope you still have warranty?

Not extended no... :/
I've managed to get it into "download mode" now though, and my laptop recognises it as "SAMSUNG CDMA Technologies"... Huh?
---------- Post added at 05:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:45 PM ----------
If i have it plugged into my laptop,
hold vol down, power, and camera while inserting the battery i get to the hard reset screen. But then that disappears in the same 4-5 second window.
Ok, it's working again... I left the battery out for a few hours (literaly about 3), then pressed hard on the power button, and placed it (the battery) back in the phone.
Let it turn on and then back off by itself, then pressed hard on the power button.
pressed the button normally, and it booted up no issues. So far works fine.
I expect this issue is partly the power button, and something else unknown

Yes' same thing with wall power. New battery arrived and did not help. Went to a local cellphone repair and the guy said main board needs replacement.. he suggested to buy another phone since repair will be more expensive.. he said that he needs to remove soldering on the board reinforce an auxillary power button battery and resolder it in.. no guarantees and will cost atleast $150

Lucky you!! This seems like a common problem with several Samsung phones based on a quick google search
Also bummed that this happened with 6 months remaining ...Now I am somewhat stuck since I want to switch from AT&T due to call issues with several months remaining.. and dont want to buy one till wp8 is out...
Just for fun... I am going to find a 000 screwdriver and try to re-jig the power button.. nothing to loose with the phone refusing to start anyway!
For what it's worth, my power button had been getting increasingly creaky over the course of the last few months, and although not sticking, was requiring ever more pressure to operate. Also, the sound of rusty bedsprings every time I went to use my phone was getting somewhat embarrassing.
I found the sturdiest piece of paper that I could wedge in between the button and the rest of the phone, put a bit of PB Blaster on the paper, and wedged the paper in. The button has since been as good as the day I took the phone out of the box for a couple of months now.
*Edit: Should probably mention that the paper isn't supposed to stay in there - it was just used to apply the lube without soaking the phone.

So its working completely fine now? No issues? I'll try that but im not hopeful.
I've been having the same issue, started yesterday. There appears to be no issues with the actual button itself, it doesnt appear to get stuck or anything to cause this, even without the external shell and just compressing the sensor itself.
walletless, you said that you tried reformatting it and everything? Damn. I was expecting it to be a software issue. I'll mess with the button mechanism a bit and see if theres anything weird with it
Phone is dead
re-jigging and cleaning around power button did not help.. I ended up ordering a chinese knock-off of HTC Note instead
Does any have this problem, but on a normal stock rom?
I was thinking it might be just custom roms, I don't think that would have anything to do with it
Its worth a shot though

My phone died last month. I only installed updates that came through Zune up to 7.5. I went into AT&T and they told me too bad because it was out of warranty. I called Samsung, and they wanted me to 'volume down, camera, power' reset my phone, which didn't work. Samsung told me to send it to them for $70 because I was out of warranty.
Instead I entered a developer competition for a Lumia 800 and won. Now I just have a dead focus, and a new 800. I'd still be interested if anyone finds out a way to fix the focus problem.
