Can gingerbread fir the droid x2 be ported over the atrix4g?? Their both Motorola. Both have tegra 2 dual core. Same ram(I think). Can't a dev decode the softwear and port it to the atrix so it can be flash through sbf light.????

Must likely no. an sbf wouldn't be properly signed, we don't have an unlocked bootloader so we can't flash roms and we would need the proper device drivers and kernels anyway. The current ones wouldn't work for that rom. And I'm not really sure about the display but if it's not a qHD with the same resolution then all graphics would have to be redone as well

About the display, it's qHD.
The DX2 hasn't got a Gingerbread update yet.

Belive so. That said, I dont see a kernel transplant working because it would be signed differently than the Atrix kernels are. If they're the same, thats an epic security fail on Moto's part.
The biggest difficulty with porting gingerbread from DX2 would most likely be that DX2 doesn't have gingerbread

Any Cooks/Dev's working on a build of the sdk for the droid/droid2/droidx....?
just curious.
If I have read correctly around the net, I think devs need to wait until Motorola releases their own version of Gingerbread for the D2 and DX since they use Blur. Could be different for the Droid 1 though since its stock.

Exactly the reason why I plan on switching to the samsung fascinate. This locked bootloader mess is making the droid2 root experience suck bad. While other phones get roms as soon as the freakin sdk is released for gingerbread, we are stuck waiting on moto bcuz we are locked down and unable to get ealry gb roms.
via XDA on DROID2
Real funny how you want to switch to a fascinate because of Motorola being slow on rom updates. The sgs fascinate is still in 2.1 eclair bro. If you want most upto date than stay away from Sammy. That's why I'm replacing my fascinate tomorrow.

I just wish motorola would confirm which phones are going to get 2.3. Samsung and lg have announced some phones are going to get it, and I think htc has too I believe. I assume the d2 will get it, I don't know why it wouldn't. I'm just anxious cause of my luck with phones I picked the eris first and of course it didn't see froyo until the devs made it.

I would agree with you normally but this is XDA.. the vast majority of people here are looking to customize their phones, and are not like the general public. I'd rather a fully unlocked bootloader with zero OEM support than lots of OEM support and a completely locked down system. That is one of the main reasons android is so much better than the iphone.. but here i am feeling stupid with locked phone. Although, the most locked down android is nowhere near as restrictive as a fruit device, but stil...

Although it isn't cracked per se, Koush's Droid X Boostrapper allows for a "hijacked" recovery. That allows running custom roms, nandroid backups, underclocking/overclocking, undervolting/overvolting, etc. just that we cannot use custom kernels as of yet.

Which means you can't get Gingerbread to run on it (for e.g.) as that would require a custom kernel...
P3droid already has a "developers" release of Gingerbread for the Droid X (sans Blur, though that could be added to the release version) from Motorolta. And cvpcs has CM 7 booting on the Droid X, as well.
In short, I think if there's a good phone, expect the devs to tinker until they find a way around things.

This has been proven wrong. The D1 runs GB with a .32 kernel, same as our X.

gingerbread does work on the current kernel but it has taken long to get a working rom. i have a droid x and if u want an ice cream rom thats not happening on the atrix especially since it came with froyo and not gingerbread. u would have to wait until motorola releases it which would be about 10 months. go with the nexus s unless u really need dual core and the 4g speed and the docking features

Not a troll. I paid $670 for the Atrix last week, and I made the wrong decision. Should have gone for the Nexus S.
What use is a Tegra 2 phone that becomes choppy once I put on a live wallpaper, sucks up the battery, heats up when I do anything, and can't play my 720p mkv files without recoding them?
I can't return it because I bought it on ebay. Stupid Bell stores wouldn't sell it off contract.

I'm sure there will be a stable ics rom for the aria even if its not cm9. I have a very early one on my aria atm which runs well. Its not my everyday phone so idc that it does not have mobile or wifi lol. I just wanted to play around with ics.
IMO the sense 2.1 + 3.0 rom is more resource intensive than an aosp build of ICS. We'll see a smooth port on the aria, I'm sure of it. Not supporting the N1 was a business decision on Google's part not to support legacy hardware.

I think this will be exciting to see how the new motoblur looks, they have said that they want to make less phones and more support for phones, and with google behind them and the pressure on from samsung, my eyes and ears are looking to moto to put up a fight. another point is that google is hard on about using the ICS halo theme and google owns moto, maybe the order came from the top, ICS with less blur out faster please.

I don't know if it's a kernel module or built-in.
But if it's built-in we need the sources. That means leaks won't help us we have to wait for an official release of the kernel-source.
When it comes to drivers, the kernel doesnt always mean a whole lot. If that phone is the same variant of Tegra 2 used in the Atrix, there's a good chance its drivers could be used.

From what I understand, the only reason the Mimosa drivers couldn't be used is because it was for a different kernel version. We don't have a 3.X kernel, so any drivers made for a 3.X kernel probably aren't going to work for us, unless someone wants to port Moto's changes in 2.6 up to a 3.1 kernel, I guess.
