LOL. you too mate..
I really didn't want to read this 5 days after I've bought the TAB.
Luckily there's no release date in the article
the resolution is the same like current tab. the initial news was wrong.
Hi.I'm from Brasil
Samsung is promising the Galaxy Tab for our market this month. Many news site from here are saying that Brazilian version will have 3 big differences:
- wsvga amoled display
- analogic and digital tv
- and a 1.2 Ghz processor
I'll let you know when It's official...

Only AMELOD no other Resolution
There was a update for the press realease:
Update: Samsung's official note on the matter lists a WSVGA resolution (i.e. 1024 x 600 as on the current Tab) and some amateur geometry applied to the image does indeed show the prototype screen above has a smaller ratio than the requisite 2:1 for a 1200 x 600 pixel display.
=> There is no date when this version will be available.
As I pointed out in the other thread on this matter, Samsung sell more than just consumer devices.
They manufacturer components such as display panels and sell them to other companies (the AMOLED panels HTC used to use in the Desire/Droid Incredible being one such example) as well and they have to have some way of showing off new products to potential customers.
That's all this is, Samsung showing off their new 7" S-AMOLED panel.
This is not a new Tab, that's just conjecture on the part of tech 'journalists'.
I almost posted about this earlier this week... if you look on the alibaba site for Galaxy Tabs, almost all of them (mostly from Asia) are listed with super amoled screens... and some of the ebay Tabs are also described as having amoled screens... so either all of these people have it wrong, or Samsung have released some tabs with amoleds...
I'm thinking the latter.

Or not.
Samsung only announced they'd been able to produce 7" S-AMOLED panels a week ago.
The trade-show linked to in the OP was Samsung debuting this new larger S-AMOLED panel.
There's no way they've been building them into Tabs and selling them whilst claiming they're only using LCD panels.
The listings on sites that claim S-AMOLED are wrong, they're either incorrectly based on the original rumoured specs or they're out-right lying.

Not going to comment on the AMOLED display and 1.2 GHz processor, but I presume when you say analog and digital TV, you mean TV out and not TV tuners?
FYI, the "standard" Tab supports analog TV out via a composite cable, and digital out via HDMI on the multimedia dock.
Regards,
Dave
I meant tv turner... and s-amoled has been pretty talked about around here. The most uncertain seems to be the 1.2 Ghz. Some sites say 1 and others say 1.2 Ghz. Will see... they are promising 18th November the beginning of sales in Brasil

Well, seems like the rumors were wrong...
Today a well known site finally put its hands in a Brazilian version of the Galaxy Tab that will be on sale next week.
There is no super amoled after all!
And seems that there is no 1.2Ghz processor too.
What they confirmed and tested is the digital and analog tv turner and it seems to work pretty well.
The Brazilian Galaxy will have a Bluetooth headset in the box too.
Can't wait till next week to buy mine!

Well I don't now yet. Waiting for a in depht review from the same site. As soon as get that information I'll let you know.
The resolution is a misprint done by one source and seems like everyone adopted it.
Its actually 1024 x 600, the same as the Galaxy Tab's resolution.
However, dont expect the Super AMOLED to come out any time soon as Samsung has to complete their newest factory (line #2). It wont be finished until 1st quarter next year.

Seeing as it's likely both 8.9 and 10.1 inch Galaxy Tabs will share specs and Honeycomb, could we either give 8.9 it's own sub-forum or merge to have the forum as Galaxy Tab 2 or Galaxy Tab 8.9/10.1? Or perhaps an 8.9 forum on it's own?
Thanks
It somewhat saddens me they went with 8.9'', I wanted something comparable to the iPad's size but not smaller. Irrelevant to this thread I know...
Thanks for the idea, Bandage.
We'll wait to see if they're basically the same internally. If they are, then I'll bring up the matter with the admin team and we'll decide what will be done. Generally the deciding factor for matters like these is whether the two devices can share ROMs with little or no modification. For that, only time can tell.

They are doing both...a 10.1 & 8.9... So best of both worlds!

I wonder if they are going to "do an apple" and, on the 22nd, announce the 8.9" version, and release both of them soon after?
For me, I think 8.9 would probably be the ideal tablet size as you can use it one handed in portrait mode.
I think I am going to be between the Samsung 8.9 and the LG Optimus Pad (which there is no forum for) for my tablet purchase! I have no need for the 3D capability of the LG, so if the specs are similar, it will probably come down to price.
Sent from my Amiga 500 using Workbench
I disagree
For me, 8.9" is the perfect size.
7" is too small for tablet, 9.7" (iPad) and 10.1" is too big.
8.9" would have better battery life compared to the same 10.1" because the screen is smaller. Hey, additional 15 to 30 minutes because of this is nice!
And of course, it should be lighter as well
The only thing I hope is ... better screen ... like SUPER AMOLED. I know, this not gonna happen, but ... hope is hope ... dream

Not necessarily, smaller tablet may equal physically smaller battery, which may have smaller mAh.

anyone think i shud jump to xoom iinstead?
I think I'm firmly on the new 10.1 Tab right now. 3 MP camera is something I can live with, in exchange for the slimness and weight. I think they displayed an older build (10.6 mm) thickness, with TouchWiz on it on the AC video. So, I don't want to jump to conclusions on the lag

Yes but when compared to all the other Android tablets, the rear camera is the worst. Even worst then any smartphone out last year and now.

But why in the world would you ever need a 8MP camera on your 10" tablet??? Is there ever a time when you have your tablet with you and not your phone or other digital camera/DSLR and you just need to take a hi-res photo?

I agree. I only use my phone camera for an "Oh Crap" spontaneous photo, not a thought out photograph where high res makes a difference. Not to mention that the quality of the lens really determines the end quality of the image. You can find shots taken on a 3MP camera with a great lens that will blow you away.

I haven't see the Androidcentral video. But apparently there were no functioning new Galaxy Tab 10.1. The old 10.1 was used to demonstrate Honeycomb and TouchWiz. So I probably wouldn't worry too much about that, since that isn't the tablet we are getting anyway.
I'm not concerned about the camera. I'd like to have a camera, but I don't require it to be uber. I think having a good camera on my smart phone is far more important, because it's easier to hold and click pictures with a 4 inch phone than a 10 inch tablet.
Xoom disappointed me, I returned mine after a few days. It was too heavy, didn't feel comfortable to hold long, and the screen was good, but not great.
Galaxy Tab is much lighter and appears to be more comfortable to hold. Comfort is huge, I want to be able to hold this thing in my hands without fatigue or sharp corners digging into my fingers.
And the PLS screen, no doubt will blow away whatever type of panel the Xoom is using.

I just got back from the Verizon store and spent a good 20 minutes with the Xoom, and honestly my arm got tired. That thing is HEAVY. Its the first thing you notice when you pick it up. It is obviously solidly built which is what the weight offers, but man I couldn't see myself using that thing with one hand for very long.
1.6lbs is heavy. If these things come out and are solidly built for 1lb I'll be sold on it.
Should also note that using the Xoom makes me realize I probably won't want anything smaller than a 10.1" tablet. The Xoom has a much smaller footprint than the iPad because it is 16:9 and not 4:3. I think the 8.9" might be a little too small. I like the 10.1" ability to be able to view full web pages without pinching/zooming to read them properly.
Yep, I'm sold on the 10.1 even though i swore to never purchase a Samsung device. I'm putting my Xoom up for sale as of today

Nvidia's tegra site has the galaxy tab 10.1 listed as having the tegra 2
I will probably look to buy the 10.1v (or whatever they end up calling the original). I want to buy in the next month or so, so if it's not available it will be the iPad 2 until June.
Have you seen the needle like charger tip for the xoom? Bad things will happen to something so flimsy... That's half the reason I took mine back. Other half is the new Tab 10.1.
All Samsung Tablets Versus Each Other
During the last year, Samsung have lunched many tablets. Most of them have similar specification. But at the end there are difference.
Galaxy Tab 7.0
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Galaxy Tab 8.9
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
Galaxy Note 10.1
All of these tablets are compared in the link below

Unfortunately, none of their larger offerings seem to stand up well against the new iPad. iOS limitations aside, that thing looks pretty nice.

It's always amazed me that Samsung in particular, with their display panel manufacturing capability, has never bothered to put out a tab with a decent resolution. I understand that there are manufacturing issues with current AMOLED technology, but there is no good reason that Apple doesn't even have WUXGA or even 1080p LCD competition in the 10" bracket. It's things like this that make me wish iOS and Apple in general weren't so awful.

Well, maybe Samsung will be neck and neck. The new 11.2 is supposedly going to have a 2560x1600 screen. So, the density will be close to the new iPad's 9.7 2048x1536 display. 11.2 is getting on the big side for portability, although that does look like a nice device. Although, no word on release timeframe.

Update: Whoops, looks like Samsung probably won't announce that device anyway, but instead some kind of Angry Birds crap.

SAMOLED+ vs LCD. Big SAMOLEDs are expensive, which explains most of the price of the 7.7 compared to the 7+. A SAMOLED 10.1 is not feasible today.

Yeah, the Tab 2 isn't the successor to the regular Tab. It's more of a low cost alternative, while the new "high end" 10.1 tablet, which you're supposed to compare to the original Tab 10.1, is the Note 10.1. AFAIK, the Note 10.1 compares well with the original Tab 10.1 in every aspect.
Yesh, confusing as hell.Samsung should have made their names more straightforward.
