Battery Comparison. - Epic 4G General

I'm going to be a useful XDA Member!
I bought a genuine Galaxy S 4G battery which is rated at 1650mAh. It's Samsung Branded, says 1650mAh and everything!
So I decided to see how much, if any, improvement there actually is. I was doing this for my own purposes, but I decided I'll share results with you guys too! I'm going to drain both the batteries doing the exact same test, and time them! Simple enough, right?
Configuration of the test:
-SRF Frozen 1.1.1 ROM with included Twlight Kernel. Undervolted (Forgot settings, will post when change batteries)
-Display at 100% Brightness
-Bluetooth on
-Wi-Fi Off
-Background Data off
-Auto-sync off
-GPS On
-Streaming THIS youtube video on the desktop site using Dolphin HD with Flash 10.3 plug-in

Update:
So I got my results ready... Took a while but BAM:
1500mAh battery lasted 1 hour and 58 minutes.
1650 mAh battery lasted 2 hours and 16 minutes.
I will have to see how real world use is, but this is pretty encouraging considering I was just trying to kill this battery as fast as possible. I was pretty skeptical about this battery ACTUALLY being 1650mAh, even though it is genuine Samsung, but it is!
So if you guys want better battery life, and no extended back, I'd say spring for a Galaxy S 4G battery.

Are you calibrating the batteries beforehand? Well running them out calibrate them and make better results in a second round of tests?

The 1500 mAh one was calibrated, but the 1650 one was not. If it's really important to you, I can do this tomorrow or another day I have time, I just don't have the patience to stare at my phone anymore, I want to use it. xP

I hear you, but if you want this to be a helpful thread this test needs to be done in a scientific manner. Successful science and patience rarely combine well. Please calibrate both or else it's more apples to oranges than it already will be. Technically, I wish this was a brand new phone with a stock battery being first calibrated and the replacement battery being put through the same circumstances at the same time.

118 minutes for the 1500mah
vs
136 minutes for the 1650mah
That is a 15% increase.
The 1650 is 10% bigger than the 1500mah battery at advertised mah ratings. I am guessing you have had your 1500mah battery in use for a few months at least. Lets assume that it has diminished to 90% capacity from the new state of around 97% rated capacity which would be ~4-6 months of use. That means your 1500mah would be 1350mah.
Your 1650 is really 1600mah new most likely (97% rated).
That would make your 1650mah battery's real capacity around 18.5% larger than the 1500mah battery's real capacity, which is right in line with your test of around a 15% improvement.

Maximum Battery Charge

Just wondering, when your Nexus One battery is fully charged, what's the maximum mAh you can achieve? (Look in /d/battery_log)
I'm nitpicking perhaps, but I'm curious. The Nexus One batter is supposed to be 1400 mAh, but the max I've seen it charged to is 1368 mAh, and this was less than 1 week old. Yeah, I know, just shortchanged a little bit.
I'm quite used to the fact that on a few MacBooks/MacBook Pros I've had, the actual battery capacity is more than the specified capacity. E.g. on my MacBook Pro right now, it's 5450 mAh battery can actually hold 5597 mAh.
So, how does your battery fare?
depends on how you use different applications...
Log shoes 1366 is the best I have had (with what I can see).
I got mine on launch day, and full charge is 1347 for me now. With CM 5.0.4 I use about 5-8%/hr while idling according to Android Battery Dog, giving me easily > 12 hrs of life, usually around 16.

Ok, so I'm not alone with an under-performing battery
lolobabes: I'm referring to the maximum charge the battery will hold. It should not depend on the applications I use.
uansari1: In "adb shell", run "cat /d/battery_log" and look at the uAh column.

Battery Options for EVO

So right now I have some choices:
Go with a Seidio Innocell 3500mAh that will be about 60 bucks through Amazon that has a massive hump in the back.
Go with a solar power battery of some sort (they have 3500 mAh batteries online)
Go with cheap backup batteries.
Try recharging the battery in the method that HTC recommended.
What do you guys think?
Just curious...why? As a backup or did you have a problem with your battery?
I'd cop an extra battery, I hate the added bulk but that's just me.

+1, they are not expensive either, though I do think the actual EVO battery cost more than a Touch Pro or TP2 battery, which, by coincidence, are the same as the stock EVO battery....
I want a new or extra battery because:
Even with all the phone setting tweaks, my battery life is still pathetic. I want something I can run the phone normally with, without having to worry about my battery going dead.
And my phone did not receive the new update, which supposedly helps the battery life out.

How bad battery life you getting? I am able to get around 12-15 hours of use which is pretty good for me.
It seemed to be doing better, lasting longer than before but today, I pulled it off the charger, it was at full battery. Then I had it sit there for about an hour and half maybe (doing nothing) and I looked and all the sudden it's down to just over half battery life.
I'm not sure what's going on. Before the Network setting change, I couldn't even use the phone for 20 minutes without the thing dropping to 75% charge. After that it lasted much much longer, except for today.

hah yeah , definitely need to get an extra battery. I want a yellow battery like in that HD Mini!
I am convinced that there was a bad batch off Evo batteries. You might find that another 1500mah solves your issues.
Also, be careful with the 3rd party 2000mah battery as it is reported to have a real world capacity off approx 1100mah!!

60 will get you 12 aftermarket tp2 batteries and 6 multi function battery chargers, batteries rated at 1500 but I don't believe they are actually that high, I'm standing at 7 hours of above moderate use on one, would easily last me through a day of work at normal use. THIS IS OFF EBAY. These batteries have not been conditioned by me yet, so I'll do that and test again.

I don't want to ruin the moment... but any info about battery life on Nexus 4?
I don't want to waste ~u$s360 with a device that longs 4/5 hours...

Yeah, the big downside of a non-removable battery is the inability to upgrade if the battery life sucks. I can go over 24 hours on my Sensation with moderate use thanks to the extended battery I purchased for it.
It's a far cry from the GNexs 1750mAh battery, the 2100mAh battery in this should last a little longer.
I heard somewhere (for the life of me I cannot remember where) that it has somewhere around 12 hours talk-time. Of course that's yet to be confirmed...
well your basically getting a gnex with 350mah extra battery. and this time they are using a Li-polymer battery instead of the normal Li-ion so the battery will not degrade in about 2 years it will still hold a good charge.

That said, it's not only about mAh -- the iP5 holds pretty close to the Maxx from a lot of reviews.

Exactly. But Android phones, particularly the high-end ones, require an added boost. The iPhone 5 doesn't need the extra battery power; Apple have been very clever when it comes to power consumption. It's impressive.

LG Optimus also has 2100mAh (I know, doesn't have to be same manufacteur) and the same components and it has a really good battery life.
Always better than S3.
+ LG says that their battery has more charging cycles. In the data sheet of Nexus 4 and Optimus G it says 800 instead of the usual 500:

2100mAh should be pretty good, especially without LTE.

One other small thing to note, the battery is a bit higher voltage than your standard cell. 3.8v vs 3.6v, so that works out to 7.98Wh vs 7.56Wh.

Mine was giving me about 36 hrs with moderate use on ARHD ? Like a year ago ? Besides this phone will have so many kernels and rooms to choose from in like a month or so that will help you get better management of it that I just don't see it being an issue ??? And chances are you might not even have it after two years when the battery starts degrading ...

Defy+ 3500 mAh battery opinion

I've been looking around eBay and I came across the 3500 mAh battery for the Defy+.
Has anyone tried this, and if so, what are your opinions? 3500 mAh is a massive force of battery life, even though I am sure the parts are not that quality from looking at the 8~10$ average eBay price.
So should I get this battery to serve me as an extra/backup one?
It will be actually much much lower mah then its mentioned for 8$ believe me.

I have one. Not sure about the total mAH but the battery seems at least better than my old stock battery. No one makes a good case for a Defy with the extended battery. I've resorted to running the phone naked. I might get some gaffers tape to add some protection.
Also keep in mind your water resistance goes away with the extended battery. Not a big deal if you are careful. The bigger battery combined with a battery saver to turn off data/wifi when screen is off allows the battery to easily last more than a day.
Edit: I changed back to my old OEM battery. The extra bulk made the phone too annoying to carry. There was extra battery life but the meter did not reflect the upgrade so it was hard to gauge. It's annoying to be running at 0-1% for a few hours because it could die anytime.

Like many others my 1 year-old A2017-U's battery life had deteriorated significantly. Until yesterday it was completely stock, unrooted. In an attempt to salvage what is a perfectly serviceable phone for me, I finally bit the bullet, unlocked, rooted and installed Lineage OS 14.1 and the Radioactive kernel.
What's a good way for me to objectively measure battery life. What I'd prefer to do, is to charge to full, and then understand under typical conditions how long it lasts, day by day.
Is there a good app for this?

In my view, there is non. Everyone's phone is different, with different apps, etc. What I used is Antutu's stress test and see how many % drops after X number of tests. It can also show how quickly it drops, but only useful if you have previous tests to compare to.

Accubattery. It measures the mA while charging and takes the estimate of mAh, coupled with the percentage thay you charged. After 2 charges with more than 20% (say, from 20 to 60) it will show you an estimate of the current battery capacity. after more charges it will get even more precise, bur in my case it's been showing 2400 mAh all the time

I agree with above, Accubattery. It will tell you your battery's capacity. I bought a year old Axon7 and the capacity was down to 58%, Bought a replacement and did a fairly simple install and now all is good.

I don't trust Accubattery that much, I use a USB battery capacity tester (google for it). Plug it in between the charger and charge cable and it will show me the true capacity when full.

And how much difference does it report? I mean, why not trust Accubattery since we saw all of the results on the other thread? Before changing the battery it would report very low values like 58%, after changing it it reported about 96% which is really good

Bottom line is it is an app which will draw power when it is running, which may affect the result. I had not tested the app fully but on my old zf3, when screen is on, it reports as drawing at 500ma while the USB tester stay as the same before screen on, 1.8A. The USB tester measures the actual electricity that went down the cable while the app measures reading as reported by the phone, which could be wrong.
