So right now I have some choices:
Go with a Seidio Innocell 3500mAh that will be about 60 bucks through Amazon that has a massive hump in the back.
Go with a solar power battery of some sort (they have 3500 mAh batteries online)
Go with cheap backup batteries.
Try recharging the battery in the method that HTC recommended.
What do you guys think?
Just curious...why? As a backup or did you have a problem with your battery?
I'd cop an extra battery, I hate the added bulk but that's just me.

+1, they are not expensive either, though I do think the actual EVO battery cost more than a Touch Pro or TP2 battery, which, by coincidence, are the same as the stock EVO battery....
I want a new or extra battery because:
Even with all the phone setting tweaks, my battery life is still pathetic. I want something I can run the phone normally with, without having to worry about my battery going dead.
And my phone did not receive the new update, which supposedly helps the battery life out.

How bad battery life you getting? I am able to get around 12-15 hours of use which is pretty good for me.
It seemed to be doing better, lasting longer than before but today, I pulled it off the charger, it was at full battery. Then I had it sit there for about an hour and half maybe (doing nothing) and I looked and all the sudden it's down to just over half battery life.
I'm not sure what's going on. Before the Network setting change, I couldn't even use the phone for 20 minutes without the thing dropping to 75% charge. After that it lasted much much longer, except for today.

hah yeah , definitely need to get an extra battery. I want a yellow battery like in that HD Mini!
I am convinced that there was a bad batch off Evo batteries. You might find that another 1500mah solves your issues.
Also, be careful with the 3rd party 2000mah battery as it is reported to have a real world capacity off approx 1100mah!!

60 will get you 12 aftermarket tp2 batteries and 6 multi function battery chargers, batteries rated at 1500 but I don't believe they are actually that high, I'm standing at 7 hours of above moderate use on one, would easily last me through a day of work at normal use. THIS IS OFF EBAY. These batteries have not been conditioned by me yet, so I'll do that and test again.

Finally it seems that Seidio has come out with an extended battery that fits without having to replace the back cover.
http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BASI15HTCX1
It is only 1500mAh which is about 10% more battery power but that might just be enough for some people to make it through one heavy day of use.
Part # BASI15HTCX1
The compatibility tab on the manufactures site says it will work with the Touch Pro / Fuze.

I might have to get me one of those.
Side Note: i just noticed you live in orlando, FL so do I. Do you go to ucf?
Seems like a lot of money for a little more power. I think I'd rather buy 2 extra batteries and a charger for half the price and just keep an extra battery on hand... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2x-Battery-13...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:15|39:1|240:1318
For what it's worth, I picked up one of these and slapped it in my Fuze last night. I know it'll take a handful of power drains to fully "charge" it up, but will report back when I can.

I bought something similar to this on ebay. The two batteries I got last a lot shorter than the factory battery. I cycled the batteries 5 times and still the capacity has not increased. I would say I get about 25% shorter battery life with these batteries...they do a good job of making them look authentic...minus they all have the same serial number stamped on them...
ahh i was hoping it had more mah, its not even worth the extra money to purchase this. the things people make, its not even worth it.
Has anyone ordered or used one of these? I'm interested I just want some opinions before I go and spend 44 US dollars on it.

Conditioning a Li-Ion battery is a myth and you only speed up the lifetime of the battery that only lasts about 2-3 years.
When you get your phone, you should plug it in, charge it to full, and have fun with it. None if this "charge, discharge, charge, discharge" is needed.

It's not a myth, sort of.
It takes a few cycles for the sensor to accurately understand the capacity of the battery. This means the battery might be detected as "empty," when there's some left.
After that, you only need to "recalibrate" once in three months or so to stay updated. For everyday use, you are right. It's better to charge whenever possible (but constantly trying to "charge" at 100% is not a good thing, even with the "smart chip" halting the process).

nice to see other ucf knights on here.
So, does anyone have any thoughts on the seidio extended battery? How much longer is it lasting for you all? How much of a difference does it actually make?
As I posted before, I got the battery the other day. Thus far, it seems to extend my capabilities enough to where I only have to charge my Fuze once a day. The exception was Friday when my bus got stuck in traffic, so I watched video for an hour. Previously, I could last about 8 hours before needing to charge.
For what it's worth, I'm a heavy SMS and data user. Don't really talk all that much, but do a lot of SMS, surfing, apps, and other PDA-ish activities with my Fuze. Running the Elite RC2 ROM as well.

Went from about 8 hours to about 12-13 hours, unless I do something super-draining like watch video for an extended period of time. Mind you, I've only had the battery in what... 4 days now, so this is still very limited scope.
Today, I was up at 6AM @ 100%... spent about 30 minutes surfing on the train, during my commute in... did some SMS... and just spent the last 90 minutes stuck in a meeting playing Freecell... and am at 57% full.

and also as a backup! the main reason i might buy this is not to completely replace my original battery, but between the two, you can easily get through a heavy day of usage... now to find a charging dock for the extra battery...

This might be true for laptop batteries but not necesarily true for phone batts.. the phones monitor the battery's voltage and compute the state of charge based on that.. there is no "smart" guts in phone batteries
Well I ordered an eBay $15 extended battery + cover.
So far, it's amazing in comparison. I am pretty sure that both of my factory batteries were completely shot!
This is only the 1800mah li-ion version, but its run for 12 hours now and I still have 100% battery. That's with a little websurfing use and a handful of text messages.
Had it been one of my old batteries, it'd be down to 30-40% by now.
It does make the phone alot thicker, which kinda sucks...but I think its kinda worth it.
thats odd im fine with the standard battery. I updated my mogul to verizon's wm6.1 rom and by the end of the day i had 80% battery left. Plenty for me.

Well, I bought the batteries and the phone used, so who knows what the history was on them. And I don't think they were li-ion's so they probably were never properly charged/discharged.
As of 1:21 today, the phone is at 90% battery life. That's around 13 hours of use so far.
I just put in my Hero battery into my new Evo and it works fine. Has anyone else tried this? No wonder the battery dies in 2 sec., a much bigger phone is using the same battery. What batteries is everyone using to get more time? I'm getting half a day with Fresh Rom right now.
HTC uses the same 1500mah battery in the in a couple of models. I think the hd2 uses the same battery. I'm on damagecontrol and easily seeing 16 to 18 hours. I also did the HTC recommend battery conditioning.

If the HTC recommended conditioning is so important, why was it now part of the instructions? I feel like we were ripped off just like Apple with their antenna.
Does the conditioning have to do with the phone or the battery? Since the battery with my hero worked a lot better, should I just swap them out?
The conditioning is for the battery. It is dumb that HTC didn't fix this to begin with, but it's not hard to do.

An antenna design flaw that needs an aftermarket purchased fix (or duct tape) vs charging your battery a special way one time?
HTC realized the error and posted a fix that anyone can do. Apple said "hold it different"
That's pretty different to me.
Quick Question.. Do you have to re-condition the battery everytime you fully charge it or is it an only 1 time thing? Honestly, Id hate to waste a good hour a night trying to top off my battery..
At that rate, It works out to a wasted 30-31 hours a month just trying to keep the battery in top shape

I think it has more to do with leaving it on while charged. There has been some back and forth I believe over the trickle charge vs keeping a charge, blah blah blah....
But now that I turn off my phone, let it charge over night, it drains slower. My phone has been off the charger 6 hours and is at 80%. I haven't used it much though, this is way better than the 1 hour = 10% drain when doing nothing.
The first 5% does go by pretty fast though - I've noticed the lower the percentage read out, the slower it takes to inch towards 0. Anyone else feel that the "second half" of the battery lasts longer than the first half?

I totally agree with you, I was just making a joke! Has anyone tried any of the batteries on Ebay?
amazon.com/gp/product/B0050MUSLY
Very impressed so far. You get 2 batteries, travel charger, and it fits the stock battery housing....though a tad larger than the 1500mAh. It also charges much quicker than my stock battery
Battery Install
1. Installed the battery
2. Drained it down until phone cutoff
3. Powered it up to 100%
4. Cleared statistics
5. Disconnected, then bump charged it(It dropped 5% in 5mins on first disconnect, but not since)
After this process, the battery has shown great life. My stock battery would drain to 75% in about a hour just on idle. 10hrs later, this battery is at 75% with no use other than the music player. I'm starting to think the stock battery had probably gone bad. I say this because of the slow charging, quick drain, and failure to properly report battery life. When the battery gauge would show about 80%, the battery would actually be at 65%. The new battery reports much closer the what the battery gauge displays. I have the battery history reports if anyone want to check it out. Battery Widget Monitor is a great tool.
Here are my phone Specs(same I had on stock battery)
- SkyRaider 4.2
- Incredikernel #4
- SetCpu
-- Awake 652/245: Smartass Governor
-- Sleep 384/128, Smartass Governor
I've only had the battery for about 20hrs, but very impressed so far. $30 was pretty cheap, I figured it was worth a shot, and happy I did.
I looked at this, too. I appreciate your positive remarks.

Does it fit under the original back plate?
It does but is a little snug. No worries at all if you have any sort of case over your phone but if you just have the bare incredible there's more of a risk of the back cover popping off while hitting the ground or other movements.

Yes it does need and extended back cover, but it is included in the deal with the battery.
don't trust the 3590's. drops to 75% within minutes. they seem to lose their touch after a month of usage. they hold a charge but only the equivalence to stock making the extra cells useless and defective

I guess i will see. I have been using it for over a month now and have had no issues. My percent does not drop down right away and i went from 12+ hours on the stock battery to 24+ with the 3500mah.
I've been looking around eBay and I came across the 3500 mAh battery for the Defy+.
Has anyone tried this, and if so, what are your opinions? 3500 mAh is a massive force of battery life, even though I am sure the parts are not that quality from looking at the 8~10$ average eBay price.
So should I get this battery to serve me as an extra/backup one?
It will be actually much much lower mah then its mentioned for 8$ believe me.

I have one. Not sure about the total mAH but the battery seems at least better than my old stock battery. No one makes a good case for a Defy with the extended battery. I've resorted to running the phone naked. I might get some gaffers tape to add some protection.
Also keep in mind your water resistance goes away with the extended battery. Not a big deal if you are careful. The bigger battery combined with a battery saver to turn off data/wifi when screen is off allows the battery to easily last more than a day.
Edit: I changed back to my old OEM battery. The extra bulk made the phone too annoying to carry. There was extra battery life but the meter did not reflect the upgrade so it was hard to gauge. It's annoying to be running at 0-1% for a few hours because it could die anytime.
