Samsung Hercules is a 4.5 Inch Dual-Core Beast for T-Mobile, But It Isn’t a Galaxy S II
NO MORE COMPLAINING ABOUT GETTING ANDROID UPDATE after Global SGSII because it is a different phone
+ 4.5-inch 480 x 800 Super AMOLED Plus display
+ Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
+ NFC support, though compatibility with the forthcoming ISIS mobile payment standard is "to be determined"
+ Category 24 HSDPA (42Mbps) and Category 6 HSUPA (5.76Mbps) for extremely fast HSPA+ support -- faster than any HSPA+ phone currently sold in the US
+ AWS plus 850 / 1900MHz compatibility for support on AT&T’s "4G" network if the merger succeeds
+ Preliminary measurements place it at 5.16 x 2.76 x 0.37 inches -- within a few hundredths of an inch of the Infuse
+ 16GB internal ROM, 1GB internal RAM, external microSD up to 32GB
+ Here’s where it outdoes the Infuse: it’s quoted with a Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual-core APQ8060 application processor, which is extraordinarily unusual for a Samsung -- particularly considering the availability of Samsung’s own multi-core Exynos line; it’s paired with an MDM8220 modem processor
8 megapixel primary camera with flash and 1080p video capture, secondary front-facing camera
+ Like the Galaxy S II, the Hercules won’t have a dedicated HDMI port -- it’ll move high-def video over Micro USB using MHL
The hercules phone does look nice but Is there any definite answer that we arent getting the sg2???
Love it. Now it REALLY won't be compatible with the international Galaxy S II ROMs which are sure to come in the future! Brilliant! And why is the different processor listed as an "improvement?"
Aws :O

Ready to Trade In your Vibrant for this BABY ??? T-Mobile got you covered
http://www.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-wants-you-them-paying-you-make-it-happen
Up to $300 in cash for your used phone . Assuming Vibrant is T-Mobile Flagship phone, we might get $300 in CASH. GREAT !!!
I just hope its audio capabilities is at least as good as the vibrant (voodoo sound or similar capable).
a bigger pos vibrant... No LED Notifications, ****ty processor, ****ty resolution SAMOLED screen... wtf
Looks pretty cool but i'm not sold on qualcom's cpu/gpu's yet. I'd want to see how the sensation performs in the real world before even considering this. Plus how good does 480x800 resolution look when stretched out to 4.5 inches?

The vibrant may be aging a little bit, but it's definitely no POS. Why all the hate?
Yeah I also think 4.5 inches with the SAME resolution as the 4.0 Vibrant is a BIT too big. If they are going with such screen size, at least try to double or 1.5x the pixel resolution. I think I'mma get an international SGS2 when prices settle a bit lower. I don't use 3G anyway.
so does anyone know the definite answer if we are getting a sg2 and this or no sg2??

Get a HTC for your LED Notification. Why complaining ??? It's your choice to get the Vibrant and the whole world knows it does not have LED Notification.

Why complain that Samsung is releasing a "new" phone that's missing basic or "new" features? I haven't said anything against the vibrant maybe you need to reread. I'm content with my vibrant. Love the screen. Would love to have a 4.5 inch SAMOLED phone with a higher resolution to match, a notification led, working gps, dual core processors, 3D cameras, a metal frame, a kick stand, and a battery that doesn't die every 6 hours. This "new" phone is not it.
I'm for technological progress, not releasing "new" things with subpar attributes.
Super amoled plus .. not the same display as the vibrant ... same as the sg2 .. its dual core...

Congratulations. I hope you have fun with your ****ty EVO 3D which will match every single one of your requirements, including that ****ty battery life and a gimmick called 3D on a PHONE. And where have you been? The snapdragon mentioned is a dual core, just not a ARM A9. But then again, you'll be too lost in your ****ty battery life and constantly trying to find a charger to plug in your EVO 3d to even care.

Retard i said nothing about a EVO 3D. I was describing what a new phone in 2011 should look like. And gimmick... just because you can't afford a 3D tv doesn't mean the rest of the world can't. EVO 3D's don't have SAMOLED screens either.
I didn't say the snapdragon wasn't a dual core either. Man you need to go back to grammar school so you can relearn how to read.

Congratulations for reading your own post. If you rephrased it correctly, you could have stated "Along with the dual core processor and the 4.5 inch SAMOLED PLUS screen, I would prefer that Samsung incorporated a higher resolution (already did with SAMOLED Plus and the ridding of pentile), a notification LED, a better GPS, 3D cameras, and a metal frame and kickstand (both useless as they dent and add no useful function unless you can't hold your own device, while increasing the weight of the device).
And funny, as the specs you mentioned correspond almost directly to the EVO 3D.

Yes, in YOUR opinion. Not everyone wants a brick device in their pockets, or a 3D camera as opposed to the better Samsung 8 megapixel camera, and not everyone needs a 3D function that will only drain battery further and add price to the device.
And to your 3D comment, I find no use for 3D whatsoever. It only wastes your eyesight even faster than a normal screen. I would much prefer my 56 inch Samsung LED TV. Funny how you mention how I can't afford anything, as I live in Southlake, Texas, one of the cities in the U.S. with the highest incomes per capital.

Brick device? Where do you get that from. Why not have 2 Samsung 8 megapixel cameras? Why not have 2 Samsung 12 megapixel cameras with swapable lenses? How does having a 3D function deminish battery life? And add to the price? These are $600-700 phones, if these are TOP OF THE LINE phones **** price. I wouldn't buy a ferrari if i was afraid of the price, it's a ferrari.

Because metal would only add weight?
As for the camera, two would again only add size and weight.
3D would require the screen to use more power to display those gimmick 3D effects.
Manufacturers will continue to add those useless functions on a phone and increase the prices for those functions. My Vibrant was 500 off contract without tax, T-Mobile will only increase the price on these new phones with these useless functions. For example, the Droid Charge runs at 300 on contract as opposed to the normal 200.

Lets be serious, now there are a lot of people who are going crazy over the iPhone 4..dude Apple releases iphones every year(and this year only being slightly more spec'd then my 6 month old nexus)....ANDROID HAS A WHOLE YEAR TO ADD EVEN MORE FEATURES..i say i feel sorry for apple..just my 2cents
..not to mention even gingerbread is going to be even bigger to me than when the smoke clear, and when even more android phones come out people will see the light...
I agree with you 100% but you got'a luv that video calling, c'mon who doesnt!? thats seriously the only ONE thing that would make me consider selling my Adrond and my hd2 for an iphone, but then I remeber its only on ATT, they haave the luxury of making their plans sooo expensive due to the demand on the iPhone, I dont like that!

But honestly, what's the point? I'd rather have everything all on one device.

As much as I hate apple, we can't ignore the hardware specs on iPhone 4. I do not see anyone trumping them anytime soon. Android is a good OS, but apple has very capable and quality hardware to go along with their OS and that's where they dominate.

First dual-core Snapdragon will be the MSM8260 (the HSPA part will likely lead the CDMA MSM8660). Aside from the modems, they're identical and clock in at 1.2GHz.
Just a bit of a guide:
MSM8x50: 1GHz single core (N1, Desire, Evo, Incredible, etc CPU). Only CPU in teh public now.
MSM8x50A: 1.3GHz single core. Die shrink (same CPU design, but literally shrunk via new technology reducing power consumption and heat output). Due late 2010
MSM8x60: 1.2GHz dual core. LTE support. 1080p decode. support for up to WXGA 1280 x 800 screen resolution. Due late 2010/Early 2011
MSM8x72: 1.5GHz dual core. Support for up to WSXGA screen resolution. (1440 x 9001080p encode/decode, full support for all Mobile TV solutions. MASSIVE overhaul of graphics unit, with it reportedly able to render 80M triangles/sec and 500M+ 3D pixels/sec. Reports have suggested a late 2010 launch, but given that the unit has yet to be mass produced for OEM testing, I don't expect it before 2011.
I wouldn't give up hope that either of the dual-core parts will show up in smartphones. They seem targeted at tablets and smartbooks. It will probably be end of 2011 before we see enough improvements in power consumption to see that kind of performance in a mobile handset.

Hmm.. I smell someone who doesn't know what HW means. What HW specs?
Maybe A4 with unknown frequency that was already trashed in its fastest 1GHz form by either overclocked Droid or Nexus + JIT (and will be blown to bits by any future CPU, at least from Qualcomm's line, seeing that currently in its 1GHz form in iPad it's already below the 1.3GHz Snapdragon), and current Samsung CPUs (in Samsung phones) having x3 more powerful graphics (and later Qualcomm CPUs improving the GPU as well)?
Or maybe 5MP camera with LED flash and 720p video recording and front-facing VGA one, that are available in Evo for some time now, and the already-released dual Snapdragon below supporting 1080p encode/decode?
Ah, you mean the display resolution.. in 1/2 year that'll be pushed even further.

What rumors? It's officially launched, both of them. Here's the dual core:

There are devices scheduled to appear with it until the end of the year (hoping that they'll actually make it on time). Can't say if there are any phones, though.
again, I had video calling since 2007 over 3g on my N80 and it was free on my 3 network. LoL and now Steve says "BOOM video calling" and all people going crazy about it. Go to Asia or Europe it´s just normal and something you rarely use.

Agree that Apples idea of video conferencing is far too limited. If they really wanted to do something right, they could have worked on a standard everyone could have shared, and enabled it regardless of how your are connected.

I think your smell-o-scope is broken. I know a certain professor who can help you
Processor clock speed is just one of the performance parameter of a CPU and on its own means nothing. I will, actually, go further and say, CPU specs alone means nothing to me. It's the total package that counts. I will buy a 2.2GHz thinkpad over 2.6Ghz inspiron laptop and even pay few hundred dollars more. Because I am paying for the whole thing, the chassis, better hard drive, etc... Inspiron cheaps out and thinkpad does not.
Let's go back to phones,
Show me one SINGLE phone that has these specs ( or even any phone that will be launched within a year)
1) Processor capable of doing intense graphics (OpenGL 2.0, HD video)
2) Display with 326 pixel density (Note: resolution alone means nothing. It's pixel density that costs more money)
3) IPS panel. To give you an idea, 24" TN panel costs about $200, IPS $400
4) Tri-axial accelerometer.
5) Triaxial gyroscope
6) 720p video capable camera
7) front facing camera
8) Gorilla class glass
9) Noise canceling mic
10) Pentaband 3G. I travel and i know the importance of it.
11) Wireless n card
these all together are hardware. not just CPU
Let me reiterate my hate of steve jobs and company. However, apple has not cheaped out on this phone and let's appreciate that. I have always said, HTC cheaps out very regularly. I do not think I need to present any proofs of that, search on XDA.
Having said all this, I like my freedom and I will stay with Android. But i will not wear a fanboy hat to defend HTC or google nor will I post rants against them. But please, lets appreciate what other companies are doing good. that too in a socialized manner.
Im gonna move to the iphone 4 inspite losing flash support but getting a high res display nearly like the first webbooks AND hd video recording WITH A SOUND and not this ****y noise/crap audio the nexus one is recording on videos...
whatever guys, i get both!
hahaha
I have to admit the iphone4 is pretty impressive...but its not enough for me to buy one.
I still love my nexus and flash.

Hmm, I see your point. But I think it's not that simple.
I can show you phones that have subset of the features: 1, 6, 7, 9, 11.
Be surprised, Nexus supports OpenGL 2.0 and HD video (if you mean 720p). So does Evo.
Evo supports 720p and has front facing camera.
I'm sure you know Nexus also has noise canceling mic and wireless N. Evo lacks the mic.
Display DPI, another axle in accelerometer, gyroscope and glass (?) aside - they're advanced. Might be important, might be as needless as noise cancelling mic (the only thing it's good for, it seems, is not allowing people to speak to the phone from a distance). Pentaband is a function of antennas, which might be supported on current HW (need to ask RF people, don't have enough knowledge to tell).
On the other hand, how do you compare lacking features? For example, being so excited about DPI, how do you compare smaller or larger screen sizes - what counts as an advantage? OLED vs IPS paned LCD - for what reason do manufacturers need to go back, Samsung already proved that OLED can be made to work great in direct sunlight? How do you compare lack of HDMI out, weak camera, lack of WiMAX/LTE support, lack of removable battery (for as simple a reason as being capable to execute forced shutdown, for example)?
I'm far from being a fanboy for any technology. It's just technology.
P.S. And even if I dig into specs of future phones that aren't rumored on the net yet, I wouldn't disclose them on the forum, don't you think?
with the chatter about the shift/knight coming out, and the evo-epic debate, had me wondering what the ideal phone for me would be....
4 inch screen(amoled or lcd is fine)
processor and gpu from the Galaxy S line
NO physical keyboard
NO 4G(to hopefully save $10 per month)
HTC Sense
android 2.2 or higher
would be nice but not necessary...
front facing camera
basically I'd like for HTC to manufacture a phone with the same specs as the Galaxy S series(minus the Epic's keyboard). I love the Evo, but it is a tad bit large and the 4G lag is a real headache.
What would your ideal Android phone be?
4.3" Screen
8MP Cam
1GHz processor
kickstand
Sense
HTC build
4G
Wait...
3.0ghz core2quad
32gb ram
2tb hdd
5" screen
26mp camera
15 year battery
Laser mini projector
wireless everything
transforms
.................................
Oh you meant FEASIBLE (sorry, i had to)
i really do like the EVO, but i wouldn't mind the same footprint with updated specs. better processor, more storage, higher-def screen, better camera(not higher pixels, just better processing) better mics, USB host capabilities.
Anything labeled with the "i" brand. FTW!

Despite what Sprint says, the $10 fee is not only for 4G. It's to pay for additional data usage that a faster phone (Evo, Epic) will access. I don't want to look for the Sprint page where I read that but I argued tirelessly with those guys (Sprint) and that's what they said.
Now, the specs:
Lose Sense (Shiny user interfaces are losing their shine) the ideal interface should be clean, borderless and focused on displaying information relevant to the user. I hate to say this but iPhone is closer to this than anything I've seen. Phandroids may hate iOS but it's well thought out--like it or not. When I first bought my Evo, my reaction, "wtf is this? Where's the Android UI that I can modify?". I bought it and ROMed it.
Battery life needs to be addressed in a serious way. Find a way to work in undervolting and cyclic use of Airplane mode to save battery life.
Camera, bring it back down to a max of 6mp and save the battery life. CMOS chips are just not there yet to capture that much data. Close, but not yet.
Everything else is fantastic.

nice... LOL
45nm dual core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU + Mali 400 GPU
The CPU would be energy efficient due to it's 45nm construction + speed. A single A9 core would outperform the EVO, two would just make it look low end. The GPU would be 8 to 20 times more powerful than the pitiful Adreno 200 in the EVO.
4" Super AMOLED WVGA Display
Makes the crappy display on the EVO look even more crappy. I like 4.3" but 4" is a nice pocket friendly compromise.
768 RAM + 8-16 GB of ROM
50% more RAM and a crap load more of internal storage.
A decent QUALITY front and back camera
I want quality, not marketing numbers.
Stock Android 2.3 with timely updates
...because waiting sucks; and so does Sense and other inconsistent, slow to update, ugly skins.
WiMax/LTE/HSPA+
...because I tether.
I guess I just described a Sprint Nexus S variant with WiMax. Come on Sprint, make it happen!

You must be looking at some top secret, yet to be released iPhone because when I look at my sister's iPhone, all I see are apps. No relevant information there. In my opinion, Android is leaps and bounds beyond iOS in this regard. We get to CHOOSE what information is relevant to us and customize our home screens to show that information.
For all the crap I hear about Sense, ill never be able to go back to a phone without Smart Dialer.

That was the hardest thing for me to say goodbye to when I made the jump to MIUI. Thank god for DialerOne, though it still doesn't even compare.

I didn't say that the iPhone displayed relevant the way widgets do. I simply meant that Sense could do better. Look at Warm TwoPointTwo ROM--Myn did exactly what I'm talking about--it's beautiful and still Sense UI. Android is not leaps and bounds in terms of design, that's why there are so many designers looking for ways to improve the interface and Google knows and fascilitates it. When I walk into an Apple store and place my Evo next to an iPhone--the iPhone always seems snappier, quicker and I'm able to get to information that I need faster. Look at it this way. ADW has a theme (or themes) that makes your Android phone look like an iOS phone is iPad but I don't see iOS users looking for ways to make their iPhones look like Android phones, just an observation.
Been using Nexus One, near the beginning when it came out. Other than the poor speakers and the multi-touch issue, it served me well. To this date, nothing seems to be worth upgrading to. At first, LG optimus 2 seemed an ideal upgrade, but still wasn't "interesting" enough.
Watching CES, this Motrolla Atrix, has really caught my attention.
For those not up to date on it, here are some vids

Front/back facing camera, tegra 2 dual core, 1gb ram, 1930 mAh battery (WOW?!),, HSPDA+, good screen resolution. But, most importantly, that desktop app looks amazing. This is the first phone, since Nexus 1, which I felt was made to get market share rather than profit, in that, they really tried not skimping out on ANYTHING (I guess though retrospectively, HTC did on MT/speakers). I mean, the only thing I could see which could have been improved on this phone is 8MP camera instead of 5MP, but that difference is so minor imo.
I don't have the video, but it showed an nvidia zone - for apps which take advantage of tegra 2, which showed off a lot of cool multiplayer games, which you can play online against console owners (PS3/XboxLive) as well as fellow tegra-2 based mobile phones, which was neat.
This may be the phone, which I will upgrade to, when I decide to do so, or it will be an iphone 5(though never have used an iphone). Orion may be the better chip, when released, but the Nvidia zone thingy on CES sold me this over the Orion chip.
In order:
1) Motorola Atrix --- the TOP phone of CES. 1GB of Ram, 1930mAh Battery, HSPA+, Laptop dock, Dual core etc...
2) LG Optimus 2x / Droid Bionic --- HDMI mirroring is an insane ability for a phone to have, allow you to play any game emulator on a big screen TV with your phone and a wiimote
3) G-slate / Xoom tablets --- Honeycomb has tons of eye candy and looks great. Cant wait to try these out in the store.
Now while these things interest me, probably won't be enough to get me to give up my $40/mo Nexus 1
I believe the Atrix also has HDMI mirroring, correct?

From the videos and things I read about it the Atrix doesn't have pure HDMI mirroring by just plugging in a cable. I could easily be wrong though since theres not even an official review. I hope I'm wrong
Disappointed by HTC. Same old processor and battery improvement only slightly.
I agree that Motorola Atrix is the best phone so far, followed closely by the LG Optimus 2x and then the Samsung Infuse.
Why god did you make the Atrix on AT&T?
I been running my n1 on ATT so when I saw MOTO atrix I was all giddy. This is a monster. I think I will trade my n1 for that. But that's if I can pry off my n1 out of my hands. It will be tough but clearly its the best phone that can replace my n1. I am just glad I never used my upgrade on a iPhone. Lol. So so happy. I guess I now have to stay with ATT.
Oh yeah laptop dock and the application is so sick.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Oddly enough, the Sony Experia Arc. It like the UI and the design of it.
I really want to see the LG Optimus Black's display.
Honeycomb's UI looks pretty exciting and the tablets actually look good. Can't wait to try out a tablet that doesn't scream, "Giant Smartphone!"

Totally agree and since I have been using an AT&T Nexus this is perfect.
The screen is bigger than Nexus 4" vice 3.7", but the Atrix phone is smaller and thinner and a few grams heavier than the Nexus
Like the three docks but wish it had the docking pins like the Nexus
Overall I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Edit: wish it was LTE compatible, seems that is going to be a weak point for this phone.
This sucks I am really looking forward to something that is decent on tmo.. I love my bill with tmo and am just looking for something decent which we all knew the "S" wasn't. CES has not had anything that looks good for tmo yet.. besides tablets..
Some key differences between the Atrix and the 2X that noone has been talking about yet is the better quality cameras on the 2X. The back camera is an 8mp and personally I miss my 8mp smartphones. I haven't had one since I traded my Omnia HD for my beloved N1. Also the 2X has a 1.3mp front cam which is the least amount of megapixels I'd accept if I were to do video calling in any kind of frequent capacity. Now on the Atrix side, they have obviously the webtop and desktop applications, but also it has an amazing screen resolution of 540X960, comparable to the 640X960 retina display of the iphone. My only take away from the Atrix is the front camera only being a simple vga cam, that couldn't possibly look good on the other side. When it comes down to me personally, they both offer what I want at the core, the Tegra 2. So my decision will be made up by which one will work once I snatch it away to use on T-mobile's 4G network.
Sent using my N1, rooted. w/ HTC Sense.
This is a big thumbs up and the main reson I was holding out for a new phone. Just can't wait until the rest of the dual cores come out. Now I know for sure that Google released a dead duck with the nexus s compared to the Motorola. The spec makes it a monster and a true upgrade.
who said it's not LTE compatible? everything I see says atrix 4g?
How hard is it going to be to load ROMs on this moto? I don't follow the moto forums at all, but doesn't moto go to great lengths to lock their stuff down?
This is for AT&T and has motoblur, I have tmob so looks like I am still stuck with the Nexus One
Motorola xoom was the highlight. Smartphones didn't impress me much. I'm happy with the nexus one.
But the xoom tablet won me as soon as I could see those tron style astethics.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Xoom is pure amazingness in my opinion... finally a tablet that looks futuristic and fun to play with... the iphone is so bland and has no compatibility, i feel like it is completely disconnected from the world and all the new tabs like the GS tabs (played with one at tmobile) feel just like an enlarged version of my nexus or an ipad wannabe... yuck
the Atrix literally made my jaw hit the floor... those docking capabilities are EXACTLY what i want my phone to be able to do... I think i said in another thread (n1 end of life thread?) about how i would like to dock my phone up and turn it into my pc... granted not play super intensive games like my desktop currently does but give me the feel that i always have my computer at the palm of my hands... and the laptop dock looked sick too, i wonder how much that puppy is going to cost haha

VGA front cam is not too bad, for videos at least. Aren't DVD movies at VGA resolution? DVD movies look great on old TVs. I'm pretty sure it will look fine on a 4" screen. I hope...
the news that got me pretty excited is samsung's new super amoled plus screen. the pentile pixels are gone! pixels go from 8 on the old S-AMOLED up to 12 on S-AMOLED plus. pure awesomeness sharp text.

You're wrong on your strict assumptions. I have both a EVO 4G + iPhone 4 (as well as a N1). The EVO has a 8MP + 1.x MP FFC and the iPhone has 5MP + VGA. Simply put, the iPhone takes much better photos for both the front and back. The front facing cam is especially better, the EVO seems to have a really poor sensor for the FFC -- so MP != quality. Of course this doesn't mean that the Atrix cams are better but it's something to wait on before making assumptions.
To me the Atrix wins by a land slide. Better resolution, probably double the RAM, double the internal storage, plus a battery that's about 25% bigger. It's also HSPA+ and AT&T recently announced that they've already upgraded their entire 3G network to HSPA+. But it seems like you are stuck with T-Mo so you shouldn't even be looking at the Atrix anyway.

Atrix is HSPA+.
Which would you get? Both are supposed to come out October 26th. Both have Gingerbread. Amaze has Sense 3.5, SGSII has TWIZ. Almost all the specs are same. The main difference I see is that the Amaze has a 1.5 dual core processor. The SGSII has been listed on some sites with 1.2 and on others with 1.5. If it is 1.2, I think the Amaze may be my choice.
The Amaze would also be my choice since Samsung has waited so long to release the GSII here, and they've refused to acknowledged the GPS issue with the Vibrant. I think my "never again" protest will be to actually never again purchase a Samsung product. Or at least not this time around.
I also don't like the 4.5" screen size that the SGSII for T-Mo is coming with. AT&T seems to be the only US carrier with enough sense in their heads to keep it at 4.3". Is the Amaze also supposed to be 4.5" of over-sized ridiculousness?
The issue isn't really the screen size, IMO. The issue is the screen resolution. They are increasing sizes to epic proportions, but not increasing the resolution which degrades video on the screen compared to 4-4.3" devices. 4.3" @ WVGA is already borderline for me. I require qHD for a 4.5-4.7" screen. It's just that simple. The phoen can be the hottest thing since sliced bread, but the screen is what I look at all the time I look at it. Vibrant colors aren't enough anymore. Need a better PPI.
If I had a choice, and if the Amaze does have 16GB internal storage... It's pretty much a no brainer. Amaze it is.
Only thing I don't like is that HTC Sense has become cluttered as **** lately. I used my Mom's inspire and got knocked the **** out when I long pressed on the home screen. There was so much crap there...
4.3-inch qHD display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera, 2 MP FFC, 16GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and HSPA+ 42 are specs for the HTC Amaze

OMG, yea.. that .2" is the deal breaker for me! Especially considering that is measured diagonally! That is like .1" in each direction! And yes.. that is sarcasm. I don't think that .2" should be a defining characteristic to anyone unless the device itself gets significantly bigger than that as a whole.
I am not sure that this is the same on all devices(phones, tablets, pc/macs) but I am pretty sure THIS "--" is longer than .2". If you don't believe me, go find a ruler or tape measure, or I am pretty sure there is an app for that.. .2" is nothing.
Anyways, THAT aside.. I will agree to an extent that as screen size gets bigger, so should the resolution or ppi.. but then again it would have to significantly increase in size before you notice any degradation in quality. Yes, the iPhone has its "whatever the hell it's called" display(too tired lazy to remember/look it up), and MAYBE it is noticeable compared to devices like the vibrant.. but increasing to a 4.5" device isn't going to be a huge downgrade by far.
Besides, I haven't even considered the HTC amaze 4g.. why? I haven't heard it is coming to t-mobile(pretty sure it isn't..). I am not going to switch carriers for a phone.. the phone I buy is based on the carriers, what they offer, and the prices.. so is it coming for tmo? If not, than what reason do you have to switch to their carrier BESIDES the phone?
/rant. Too tired for this anyways.

Aren't all of those the same specs the same that the prime is supposed to have, except for a 5mp camera(with a better sensor instead)? Except it will have ice cream sandwich? Haven't we learned anything from our vibrants? Buy a device that is either truly superior, or starts off with a better software upgrade.. I would rather have something that will software-wise be superior and equal or better hardware wise..
Not sure why my distaste for 4.5" displays twisted your panties so tightly, but have you ever held a phone that size in your hand? I have, and it wasn't comfortable. I'm not all that fond of the 4.3" size either, but its a little less of an adjustment to get used to, since I know several people with phones that size and have had a chance to compare them to my Vibrant. Rant about factual errors all you like; keep your rants about other people's preferences between your ears (doing that also has the added benefit of making it less obvious there's plenty of room there for rants to knock around).
The Amaze was called Ruby during development, if I'm not mistaken, and yes, its coming to T-Mo. So start thinking about it.

ill be buying a hercules!!
And having fun at #NeverAgain 2.0 after they release the Galaxy S 2.5 4-5 months later for forget about your T-Mobile model that has different hardware components from basically all the other variants?
AT&T are setting themselves up good with their model. They're sticking pretty close to the international variant there...
Based on the HD recording abilities, the Amaze is looking pretty nice.
Both phones are officially coming out on October 12th, pre-sale online/phone on the 10th. Amaze is $259 after rebate, galaxy S II is $229.
Price difference aside... I have no idea which I'm going to buy yet. I really like my Vibrant and wouldn't really hesitate to buy another Samsung device. On the other side, I like the screen resolution on the Amaze.
I like the fact that Cyanogen works at Samsung now, and how quickly Samsung has been with releasing source for their Galaxy S II phones (although not the T-Mobile variant yet from what I can tell).
I haven't had experience with HTC since the G1, are they as good at modding as the Samsung devices right now?
Amaze. It's an HTC and the specs are literally identical except the Amaze has a qHD 4.3" SLCD Screen vs. 4.52" WVGA SAMOLED+ and the Amaze has a superior camera.
Gonna have to go with the Amaze 4G, provided I even decide to waste another Year+ with T-Mobile.
However, it's rumored that the Galaxy SII has support for AT&T UMTS/HSPA+ Bands, as well.
If that's the case, I'll get the GSII and ETF after a month and move to AT&T, since T-Mobile has less bloatware they put on their devices... Only two GSM Carriers here so a T-Mobile phoen with all brands is as good as an Unlocked, Unbranded device...
If the Amaze 4G has those bands as well, then it's a blow-out. There's also the possibility to just get a Cheap Atrix 4G and call it a day. With the updates those run decently now.

The correct CPU is 1.5 Ghz Dual Core Qualcomm, which is basically the same on both the Galaxy S2 and Amaze
many of those blog sites are waaaaaaaay outdated
I'll go for the Galaxy S2 (hercules) for the SAMOLED+ screen, the Amaze uses sLCD
other than that, both phone are almost identical
with minal difference in the battery the Hercules has 1850mAh can be upgraded to 2000 mAh (original by samsung) without changing battery cover, Amaze is 1730 (less juice)
more amaze details here http://htc.t-mobile.com/amaze-camera-phone
personally i'm going for the Galaxy S2 (hercules)
So which is better? AMOLED plus or the LCD Screen? Both appear to have 1080 HD recording, but does the Amaze have better picture taking abilities? Finally, the Galaxy S II isn't listed as having NFC in its specs on the t-mobile website.

HTC needs to stick with the people who made the Droid incredible 2 super lcd screen. Those displays are spectacular. I don't think I'll be going with the amaze 4g. Sense is nice the amaze has 3.5 sense no idea what's the difference between 3.0 and 3.5. I know partially that sense 3.5 doesn't have hardware limitations. Besides the screen size and the UI overlays the phones are the essentially the same. I'm still going for this phone so tired of HTC's hit and misses on phones.

I agree the Amaze 4G is clearly a better phone but why is it SO FAT and heavy! Look at its dimensions...nearly a small brick in fatness and it weighs 176g without any sort of sliding keyboard or anything. It's weight is not even in battery as the battery is a 1730mah or 1750mah...not even the 1850mah that the Hercules has.
I'm a little dissappoint in the physical design on the phone. Wish Samsung would have crammed a 720p screen on the Hercules and then we would not even be talking about this. Sigh.

SAMOLED+ vs. sLCD screens has nothing to do with 1080p Video Recording
a screen it's just a screen its function is only to display stuff, not record

TBH - most of the reviews I've seen about the Sensation/Amaze screen state that they are inferior to the SGSII - regardless of the resolution. LCD is simply an inferior technology.
This phone is only in the prototype stages and doesn't even yet have an official name. However I've got a name to describe it... AMAZING! Check this out, this phone packs the following features:
4.6" LCD (1280 x 720 pixels)
Waterproof
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
13.1MP rear camera
1080p video recording
1.4GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor
4G
Fingerprint scanner
FFC (Front Facing Camera)
I must admit that I'm kind of excited to see if this will hit the US market. What do you guys think?

Exactly my thoughts.
Sent from my SGH-T959 (Samsung Vibrant)
I'm not sure I'm sold on the tegra 3 CPUs yet. And they barely make an 8mp camera with good pic quality, so what makes anyone think 13 will be better? The photos will be huge (in more than one way), and most likely grainy and washed out. No thanks.
What I want in my next phone:
[Pipe dream]
Hardware acceleration optimized
At least Dual core S4+, 1.5+GHz
No larger than 4.6", but would rather 4.3" (and no, she didn't say that).
Crazy amounts of internal storage (16GB absolute min)
Unlocked boot loader
Latest ICS with guaranteed updates
8mp QUALITY camera
At least 2mp FFC
4g
Retina Display like resolution with Super AMOLED like color reproduction and contrast
No bezel at all, and speakers on both ends like the latest Galaxy player.
Accurate GPS
And most important of all: Battery life. I'll sacrifice a few of the others for decent battery life. [/pipe dream]
Am I living in a fantasy world? Probably. But no worse than those people who want WoW to be "irl".

All of that seems reasonable except for the 16GB min storage and the battery life.
What I think you're looking for is a Google experience Nexus phone with the best hardware of the time, and the right manufacturer and carrier (unlocked bootloader) You probably don't want to get a phone thats Motorola/HTC (though i think its HTC thats beginning to change) and Verizon (verizon has recently filed to the FFC saying they wish to make their phones bootloader locked)
and the NO BEZEL thing i don't think will happen, there will be LESS bezel, but i don't think it will all just go away, since first of all you won't even use the edges for anything, it will cost manufacturers even more since the screen will have to be perfect rectangle.
The Battery life part will be probably the hardest thing... and then maybe not since there are new technologies coming out in this decade for things like if you move your phone around or shake it for a while, the battery should recharge due to kinetic energy.. and theres even one that i read not too long ago probably a few days ago, that had the concept, but the technology was real of where you just sit down on your phone, and the body heat should recharge it.
