so ive tried everything from every write up and tutorial.
I just cant seem to push anything to my phone with windows deployer or tom xap and xapdeploy. the closest i got was with xapdeploy. it actually seemed to connect then gave me an 800xxxx error number.
i spent hours and hours installing all the giant windows programs that they told me to. nothing worked. i just have less space on my computer.
I can connect with zune and sync and put music on just fine. but all the deployers just tell me they cant connect.
and when i opened the chevron app it said relock instead of unlock so i clicked it and i think im done for good. i pretty sure the rom i used is already unlocked.
i might try to reinstall wp7 and try again or just go back to android.
any suggestions?
the only thing i can think of is that i dl'd and installed .net framework4 before i realized that it was in my windows updates. then i did my widows updates after. im running vista 32bit by the way.

So you can sync it, are you synced as a guest or have you setup your device?
I dont think guest works, although im not sure as i have always setup my device rather thanusing a guest.
secondly, dont click on relock, it will re lock it, it should say relock, not unlock. if it says unlock the you need to unlock it
finally, did you run the deployer as admin?
yes i had it fully registered with the activation code i got from an outsourced microsoft rep. I couldn't tell where he was from but he said "Y as in JELLO" and "K as in KILO" so i assume mexico.
i can download apps form the market and use all the features.
I think thats what you mean by guest. Im pretty sure i signed into zune with my live ID even.
Im going to task deuce nine it. then install this other rom i DL'd. try again.
Put new rom on it. same thing just much slower for some reason.
activated synced.
Chevron says Uh Oh. plaese make sure connected. make sure zune is running
tom xap says. make sure unlocked. zune conn.
and now xapdeploy says. error cannot start oblect referance not in instance of an object.
Goodbye windows. Hello android. Maybe ill try again after i spend a cpl hours uninstalling all this garbage off of my computer.
I dont like having to use zune anyways.
What Rom are you using? Try Xbmods rom with chevron built in already. I had trouble with chevron's independently. Whatever I tried never worked so I decided to try XBMod's and everything works like a charm though I haven't sideloaded anything except that one time. There's not much stuff to download for WP7 just yet.

Hello,
I've been googling around for a workaround but I cannot seem to find one that actually works. The problem is, when I try to connect my phone to the PC and, for example, want to flash it with an official rom - it simply cannot find it. It can find the SD card when I mount it.
When I put it in, Windows attempts to install a few drivers but fails at the ADB. According to several sites, I can just use the one from HTC Sync or from the Android SDK. It installs fine but it still doesn't seem to be able to contact my phone. I cannot sync it either.
Anyone got an idea? I seem to be on my last nerve.
I dont have any problems here. What windows beta release do you use?
Final version. Released today. It's Windows 7 Professional.
First, set the phone to debugg mode...
Ok here we go (at least it works for me)...
1.- Remove the drivers actuaslly installed (it might get tricky, as I don't know exactly how to remove the registry keys)
2.- Once you have cleaned windows from the drivers, connect the phone to the computer and let it recognize everything (Probably it would not recognize the ADB drviers, so far we are good)
3.- After the drivers are installed, go and check in control panel/Devices Administration (or something like that... I have Windows in spanish so I don't know exactly how is called on english... By the way, sorry if my english sound a little bit weird =P..)
4.- Here you should see probably a device as "not recognized" or what ever is called... Here is the part where you need to select the driver manually.
5.- Check the phone driver folder (you should have it, if you don't get them)
6.- When you see the different options, select the one called HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface
7.- You are done =D...
I hope I made it clear enough for you...
If you have any doubt, add me to MSN xnofrostx - hotmail.com (I don't put the @ because I hate spam xD so you should add only the xnofrostx =P...
Hope you can get it to work...
I couldn't, for the life of me, get it to work so I put Windows XP on a vmware and flashed it through there. Works wonders.
Sorry for not being able to help.
I run Windows 7 Evaluation copy. I have had no problems. In fact there was nothing for me to set up, it just saw it on first attempt.

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate. Driver from AndroidSDK and HTC Sync works perfectly for me. I can access everything except cannot sync with HTC Sync.
Rogers Magic
Rooted
CyanogenMod 4.1.9999
I cannot sync either, when installing the sync program it gives an error but continues installation, then my phone says it cannot detect htc sync on my computer, but im gonna try this link http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7/

LOL, Windows 7 is a damn nice release and a lot faster than both xp and vista compared to the hardware available at the moment off release.
i am also using windows 7 beta and final
no issues at all. and i also think, that win7 is really good piece of software. far superious to win xp
Hi all,
It's been a while, but I am back with HD2. I have a problem. I have win7 business on all off my computers, I instaled latest activesync, but I keep getting error connection. When installing drivers, I get the unknown device, so instalation failed.
Not even bluetooth recognition works.
Any suggestions, please?

If you are using Windows 7 Business, I would guess you mean you are using Windows Mobile Device Center, yes? In Windows Device Manager are you set up to automatically download drivers? Are you getting any errors in the Sync Center? There is a lot of information you have to supply before anyone can troubleshoot the problem you are having.
There are a lot of steps you can take, most of which you can find by doing a search of XDA. If that fails, then come back with a more detailed explanation of what you have done, and people will try to help troubleshoot for you.
Thanks for looking,
and yes I have been searching a lot for information allready before I made a new thread.
I have win7 business and yes it does download drivers automaticly.
I will try and search for manual driver setup, but would be very thankful if any of you could give me some hints.

In Device Manager you can click on Portable Devices and see if you see your HD2 there, if you do, then right click on it. You can find options to manually install drivers. If that does not work, in the Mobile Device Center you can configure how the center is supposed to connect to your HD2. Have you tried that yet? Also, make sure you are not using a USB hub for connections. You can try changing USB ports to try to reinstall drivers.
I am trying hard, this is the error I get:
P.S.: in activesync all options are on, so no problems there, but I have tried all of them.
In that case, try uninstalling the device in Device Manager, and starting over again. It does seem to be a driver problem. Another trick you can try is on the HD2, under Settings, USB to PC, try unticking Enable advanced network functionality, and then try to reinstall the drivers.
Another thing you can try is deleting the partnership in Windows Mobile Device Center and creating a new partnership.
Is there a wa I could find the driver somewhere and install it myself?
Not beeing able to find the right one...

In the Leo ROM forum the thread on MTTY has some Windows 7 drivers you can download I believe, but that will take awhile.
Are you using Win7 32 or 64 bit?
win7 32 bit. I tried to download them through windows update, but I got an error as well.
So I am on a quest for drivers....

If you are familiar with computers, you can try this with Win7 drivers you download for HD2.
You did try uninstalling your device in Device Manager, and trying another USB port to install it on? It seems really odd that Win7 is not finding the right drivers for you, and that persists even after you uninstall and reinstall the device.
No luck so far, any more ideas?
Update:
I tried the same thing on another laptop, same specs, same win7 business, worked like a charm.
So must be this win7 problem I think. Any ideas what to do? I can't remove mobile device center, so I could try and reinstall it. The icons stay in my control panel.
Anybody?
I just can't imagine this is only happening to me.

Did you have any luck yet in solving the problem?
Nope my dear helper,
I found out this is windows7 problem. I still get the first error can't install device driver, because the device is not installed on the computer.
Something must be wrong, but I was getting a head, network driver installed fine, windows mobile device program runs fine, I made a clean install with register delete etc...
I just can' seem to find this to work.
i had some problem the first time i plugged my HD2 on win7 64 ultim.
nothing happened, no activesync, no nothing...
i opened sync center, nothing...
windows updates found me windows mobile device center with upgrade devices, the thing installed but all still worked bad, impossible to activesync, no driver for my HD2, and i know nothing about phones and windows, it's my first windows mobile.
so after hours of fighting, i decided to DL the app windows mobile device center on microsoft download website, then i installed the thing and oh miracle, my HD2 was detected, the app Win M D Center was asking me now with the pic of my hd2 in the prog to chose between settings as the first thing installed by windows update always froze at win mob device center splash screen...
i resume here but it took me the all afternoon to finally resolve this problem.
something went wrong with windows update install and to reinstall the all app was the easy way to fix the activesync problem.
If you did already re-download Windows Mobile Device Center and that did not work on the one recalcitrant computer, maybe you might need to update your BIOS or download the latest drivers for you motherboard. Sometimes problems can crop up if the computer does not have the most updated BIOS and motherboard drivers. How old is the computer you are using?
Well, after calling microsoft support and HTC support and doing for 36 hours nothing but trying I finally reinstalled my hole system. So new clean install of windows 7 business and it works like acharm. Where did it went wrong, I don't know, there had to be some register issue I think. Windows mobile center worked ok, the connection with the phone worked, but just not recognizing the device. Well I would of done the instalation sooner, If I knew this one is gonna be so hard to do.

Well, glad you finally solved your problem, and that this time the blame was not just placed on HTC or the Leo. Sad though that you had to go through so much to get the darn thing to work. I just installed a new operating system for my neighbor, and there is still more work to do on it. Not a fun thing to do.
whenever i try to use chevron i get the mesage
"having trouble contacting usb make sure phone is plugged in make sure zune is running in the background"
obviously i have followed the instructions
can someone help me with this problem?

Same here. I guess its because of win xp. I dont know where to find a Windows 7 pc just to try it.
Bye
im on windows 7
Having the same problem on vista. Tried just about everything I've found here on the forums & nothing seems to work for me. But I'll keep pushing & figure it out eventually.
same here
i also cant unlock my hd2 wp7 the first time i flashed wp7 on my phone it worked flawlessly i had no issue unlocking it and i did it another 3 times after that but i had removed wp7 up until now im dual booting android/wp7. i didnt edit my registry for the hd7 hack or anything at all it just stopped working. i have a windows 7 netbook, and i have uninstalled and installed zune and i have sdk installed also
any ideas as to what the issue is???? i really wanna sideload netflix and facebook on my hd2
I have had the easiest run so far in getting my HD2 to work with WP7, installling DFT's ROM and getting an activation code was a breeze. All is good except for one issue. When I connect by USB to my PC, the PC shows a window saying that it is seeking and then installing Device Driver Software. It does this every time I connect and then concludes by saying that my unidentified device is now ready for use. Zune then tells me that it can't make a connection between my HD2 and the internet but it can still sync files etc. I have installed Windows Device Manager (with .NET4 and developer tools etc.) and it too can't connect with my HD2. I've pursued the references in various threads to firewall issues and so on but I'm none the wiser.
Can anyone advise me what I should look at or what to try?
Other than this, I just want to say a huge THANKYOU to all at XDA and the extended community of interested/interesting folks who make it such a fantastic resource for everyone - BRAVO!
im having this EXACT same problem! anyone got any answers?
Zune
Guys,
Did you install Zune Desktop Software?
Once you have installed Zune, it should pick up your device.
Let me know if that does not work
I've tried everything except doing a hard-reset. And, yes, of course I installed Zune on PC
i assume you mean Windows mobile device center?
you dont need it
it should connect and be done, the fact that it isnt remember the correct driver suggests something on the driver side is buggered.
With the phone connected go in to the computers device manager, and right click on anything to do with the phone, including and unknown devices, right click and uninstall them all, before it installes them all again, disconnect the phone
look for a tool on google called USBDVIEW
make sure you get the correct version 32bit / 64bit
You will also need the USB IDs if you want to see who makes each device
put it on your PC and run it in admin mode
Locate anything todo with the phone and right click and remove them all
Remove Zune
Remove Windows mobile Device center
restart your PC
install zune first
Then plug in your phone into a different USB port and not in to a HUB
See how you get on with that
Second thoughts, ive attached the 32 and 64 bit versions, both already have the USB device IDs file with them, just copy the zip file to your PC, extract, and run as admin, all credit goes to the owner of this, i found them at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
sorry double post
Didn't work. =/
UPDATE: It did work
Zune cannot connect to an HD2 running Windows Phone 7 unless the time and date match on the phone and the computer. Make sure that your date and time are set up correctly on the phone, and do match the time and date with your computer. It is a long shot, but it worked for me before.
For the driver problem, dazza9075 gave the best advice.
Hmmm, so much for that fun. I was running WP 7004 when the computer first couldn't find the phone, after doing what dazza said the driver problem got fixed, and Zune found the phone. I updated from 7004 to 7008, how ever the phone kinda crashed at step 8 (restarting your phone) so i restarted it manually, the update is working fine except now Zune can't find my phone again. Not even after doing Dazzas method again.
I will try to change the time zones maybe that will do the trick.
Ive tried to figure this out myself for days now. I broke my laptop last week which was working fine deploying xaps, windows phone device manager working fine. etc, etc.
So I finally got a replacement laptop. Fresh install of the exact same windows 7 x86. Installed latest zune, Windows Phone Developer Tools 7.1, Windows Phone Device Manager, .NET 4.0, WP7MarketplacePC.
So now Windows Phone Device Manager wont open at all. No error messages just wont open. Which isnt a big deal.
Main problem is none of my xaps will install. Ive tried the one that comes with the marketplace program, Tom's xap isntaller and a few others. All error out. wp7deploy which is the one I normally used errors while its analyzing.
Ive tried different roms, Including ones I know worked with my other laptop.
This is really bothering me like crazy since my laptop broke after I flashed a new wp7 rom but before I deployed any of my xaps.
I must be missing something but WTF is it. ahhhh
Thanks
Seems like quite a few users do face problems with WPDM on Windows 7 - on any version, that is. Haven´t seen any solution for this, unfortunately.
Maybe deleting and re-installing WPDM will help, don´t know...
Thanks...
Got it working finally...
uninstalled WPDevTools 7.1.
Installed WPDev Tools 7.0 with october update.
Uninstalled WPDM.
Then synced with zune and all is good...
Thanks again. Problem might have been with the 7.1 WPDevTools since it was in beta. After I get all the xaps deployed while its working Im gonna reinstall WPDM and see if that works again.
