Hello,
What's the original value of the registry key HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\OemDeviceName on the omnia 7? (not OemName)
I was just playing around with the market and other brand apps
Value data is OMNIA7 on mine.
Did you have to hard reset as didn't I read changing the device to another messes it up after a while?
Thank you!
No, I changed it 3 times: HTC-LG-SAMSUNG, and it didn't break the DRM. When I changed it to LG, I received an update notification, and I'm already on Nodo, but with the chevron updater.

Help me please!! The 'Phone Pad' input method will not work for my xda exec. When selecting it, it stays on keyboard method (or reverts to it if it was on, say, transcriber or block recognizer mothod) Does anyone else have the same problem? My hunch is that it's a bug which will affect some but not all, depending on the ROM version you are running. Could anyone who owns one do a quick test and let me know. I tried both soft and hard reset, no solution with either. Thanks.
Just tried it...wouldn't change to phonepad as well. But after a soft reset, it worked.
its a bug,
workaround , if all else fails soft reset.
change to portrait.
select a different keyboard option not phone one. exit app. goto app and now try - it works 6/10.
I have the same problem...
Don't want to go off on a rant here, but I have pretty strong feelings about a device that gets released with such an obvious bug with such a key piece of functionality. I'm pretty sure it's a memory issue - with a fresh personal install (i.e. with O2 active running - O2's recommended install), the phonepad works until I soft-reset the device ONCE. Then it fails to open and I can't get the work-around to work. I can reproduce this again and again.
Are there others, or is it just me who gets offended when I get charged money for something that is so obviously broken?
@daveb1976, I'm with you on this. I suspect I paid even more as I have a JJ and they are more expensive than the O2 Execs. Having used Nokia, SE and Palm devices I've got a good idea of what one should expect of new devices and I have to say the JJ reminds of the SE P800 - this was an innovative and high profile product three years ago but it was not complete in many areas (but most s/w issues were fixed after about 6 months)
Yup. I appreciate that it's a new device, and I do expect that there will be kinks. But one of 5 input methods simply not working is not a "kink". Besides, unless I'm wrong this is part of WM2005 which is version FIVE of the OS. Oh well, I bought one, so I guess I'm as guilty as the next guy when it comes to putting up with MS's rediculously low quality standards.
The workaround worked once but now I can't get it to work again. I've also noticed another strange bug. Try this....When downloading a couple of new today page themes (from the microsoft pocket pc site) and copying them into my windows folder, I was pleased to see they were available when I went to settings/today menu. However, choose any of them and the things slows up ridiculously, fails to display any contacts at all and won't select task manager (I was going there to try and shut some things down because of the speed problem).
Only a soft reset will bring things back to normal. I agree with the posts by daveb and jah, it's not acceptable to charge top notch prices for new contracts and upgrades (I was the latter incidentally, at a cool £229.99 to upgrade)
Anyway, I'm not prepared to live with it for that price so I'm calling them now. I'm on 8 days since I received it but the 14 day thing is irrelevant if the goods aren't working right? What do you guys think?
I'm looking for a hefty credit to my account to offset the upgrade price or a different handset and my 229.99 back. It's a shame as I love the 3G and wireless capabilities but it may be a case of releasing it a few months too soon, for O2 at least. They have probably been concentrating their efforts on yesterdays takeover!
Anyway, I'll post back with my result.
I got the same problem,
Beside, I can't change today backgronf theme in this Exec.
Any new upgrade for O2 Exec ?
Somebody said that "Phonepad" problem for O2 Exec is a bug and a new version will be out soon and the problem should be gone.
Anybody get the upgrade yet ?

Hi Folks,
I bought the Shift yesterday and after installing the critical Vista updates from Windwosupdate the two buttons for opening the com Manager and changing the screen resolution didn't work anymore . I decided to reset Windows to its factory defaults and it worked again. But after reinstalling the Updates once more I had the same Problem like before. A call at the HTC Service Phone ended totally ridiculous with the guy at the telephone telling me, that I will have to wait for a update from HTC which will come whenever he didn't know or to make a hard reset.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem or know where to find the softwarepaket that handles the two buttons to try a new installation?
Thanks in advance
Toby
You can re-install the Shift control centre using the exe file in c:\program files\htc\control\setup.exe.
I've installed all updates, including SP1 and everything on mine works fine -- although the SD reader can be tempermental.
Hi guys! bought mine last May 9 in Singapore, last night I discovered a dead pixel on the lower left of the screen. I intend to return the unit as per warranty, i can return it within the first 14 days after date of purchase. I love this device, its a waste, I have to wait for another unit again.
the dead pixel policy strikes again... tehnicaly speaking you have a jammed sub-pixel and that isn't covered by warranty unless htc directly expresses that it's devices are guaranteed to have no dead pixels at all (and .. they don't). the international warranty legislation for lcd pannels say that you need to have at least 3 dead (or always lighted) pixels (or 12 subpixels) in order to qualify for a replacement or to have at least 5 dark pixels (or 15 subpixels) in order to get a replacement. this rules varry from product to product but i recomand you that when you send the unit back, just tell them you don't like it or... the battery life is crappy or anything else. Good luck with this.

Just installed the 4 files from 2010 November CSC_Cetus_Europe_I8700XENJK1
This is the Dutch i8700 Omnia 7 files. Phone is unbricked. Wondered if the first one CSC_I8700DTMJJ6 was for UK.
This what I put on my email to expansys.com:
Product is 100% faulty. WP7 constantly crashes, reboots, apps fail to install , load etc. Updated WP7 via Zune to Nodo. Then free apps would install but paid apps won’t. At one pont Zune (PC software) wouldn’t connect to Omnia 7 Tried soft resets, hard resets, system recovery from Zune. Then Phone bricked. Managed to unbrick using:
http://www.winrumors.com/got-a-bricked-samsung-omnia-7-windows-phone-heres-the-fix/
Still very very unstable and unusable. The ambient light sensor doesn’t work automatically. Outlook crashes all the times, Marketplace often doesn’t load up. EU Wonpro adaptor plug is faulty. Phone was set up in Deutsche with T-Mobile DE, Vodafone DE and E-Plus De settings. German booklet etc.
I have spent 9 hours dealing with this nightmare. I would like a full refund please
I will never touch Samsung again. They were the only company that wrote firmware which caused Windows Phones to brick during the initial February 2011 update to the WP7 updater.
I believe the issue lies with MS rather than Samsung. Yes, Samsung wrote the firmware, but MS wrote the software and dictated the update method.
There weren't many Samsung phones effected (proportionally) in the scheme of things. In your event the carrier who transmitted the data, or the manufacturer (Samsung) ought to be held to account and supply you with a new phone.
You have my sympathies (not that they hold much currency). I've had no problems with my O7, and have nodo'd it using the cut off network mthod.

Thanks matey. I ordered the 16GB EU from eXpansys on Tuesday and it turned up yesterday at about 2.00pm. I had the HTC HD7 from launch day until I sold it in January. My only phone is an overclocked Palm Pre and I gave away an unbranded HTC Desire to my dear old mum.
These are the things I liked about the Omnia 7:
1. Cool looking with gorilla glass front and aluminium back door.
2. 16GB of NAND storage.
3. Super AMOLED display. My dad has the Galaxy S.
4. The price looked good. £329.99 sim free (unbranded).
I think I just got a lemon. The HD7 was flawless (apart from the well known Marketplace sometimes crashes when loading bug). Anyway there's nothing wrong with my Pre. I'm returning the Omnia 7 for a refund.
From your OP, it looks as though you've told the vendor that you've installed a firmware that wasn't deployed by the normal update mechanism.
I suspect in doing so, you've violated your warranty which may well hamper your attempt to get a full refund.
I don't think so. I updated 7004 to the February 2011 update via Zune. I then updated 7008 to 7390 NoDo. I was still getting constant instability I then attempted (after many soft resets and hard restore) to do a full recovery via Zune. The Phone froze halfway through the process.
The Phone had the put USB cable on the screen. I attempted to run system recovery but it wouldn't work.
I then put the Phone in download mode and installed a 7004 from samfirmware.com. I tested it. The Phone boots up but is still ultra unstable. It is a Lemon (that means a DOA or faulty product). I am entitled to a full refund. The company is UK based and listed on London Stock Exchange. I got in touch with them later a few hours after I received the Phone.
If anything eXpansys and Samsung owe me not just a full refund but the cost of 9 hours of my time trying to fix this handset. The phone was faulty out of the box. I tried everything to fix the software side of the phone. I suspect there is a hardware problem. Maybe loose soldering on the circuit board or the NAND chip. Who knows. I'm not opening the case. It's not my problem. I'm back on my Palm Pre.
Im not quite sure what to do, my HD2 got stolen 3 weeks ago lucky for me I had IMEI written so i reported it to cops. Two days later I got my phone back. Cops said I was lucky the guy didnt had time to sell it. When i got it back my phone it was completly reinstalled with WM6.5 (before I had WM7.5) I noticed that volume up stopped working so i started investigating deeper and to my suprise phone IMEI has been changed! When I went into boot mode (multi color) insted of cotula hspl it said something about freebox.
Here is my questions
1. Is there a way to repair phone so my volume up works? Or at least map any other key as volume up in wm7?
2. How can I get back my phone to show original IMEI?

Are you sure it is the same phone you had stolen?
I'm sure 100% it's the same phong, IMEI written on the back of the phone corresponds to the one I have on original box, but when I check IMEI from OS it's different
well if the SPL been changed then my first thought would be to put it back
So,
head on over to HTC and grab yourself an original stock ROM, flash away using the SD card method, with a bit of luck that will wipe all the crap off it, then HSPL > Radio >MAGLDR >WP7
happy to point you in the right direction for all of those or confirm your findings but its good to give it a shot yourself, a quick search will give you all you need
search for strings like
HD2 LEO SD card flash
i gather you already know how to install WP7
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE. Unless you or someone else switch the sticker on the back of the device, or swapped the housing/chassis, it is nearly impossible to change the IMEI on a device.
If this was possible, I would of have done it so long ago to trick my device to think it was some other device.
Unfortunately, IMEI hacks are illegal. That is why developers don't go that route. It's not as simple as pirating apps (which is also illegal).
Why do I get the feeling that this is some fancy way of asking how to change your IMEI (i.e., insert sap story and request on "help" on how to change your IMEI)?
Why would you want to change your IMEI? You have your device back and different IMEI doesn't change anything. All the apps will work as they worked before etc, so I don't think you should worry about that.

Hahahaha my thoughts exactly. He want somebody to help him change it. Never heard of anyone changing imei. It's like DNA of the phone.

well, I for one, would love to change the IMEI on a device so that it can bypass stupid carrier restriction (ie: use t-mobile $5unlimited internet on a mytouch4G for the 4G)
currently, it's not possible since t-mobile has blocked this device from loop-holes like that.
JUST SAYING though.......
Sorry, we don't allow discussion of IMEI changing on xda, as it *can* be used for unlawful reasons.
Hello, I just got a second hand milestone 2 from internet. As it turns out, the q w e a d and x keys from the physical keyboard are not functioning at all. They don't feel different when I press them and they also don't respond if I press harder or anything. Could there be something wrong with the software? The pone has almost no scratches and looks and feels barely used.
Android: 2.3.4 (I think the official one?)
System version: 61.1.22.A953,Retail.en.GB
Does this mean my phone was sold in the UK, because it is in the Netherlands now..
Thank you in advance!
Update: sometimes they work for a minute or so. With an app to get key codes, the broken keys do not respond as well, so I'm afraid it's a hardware failure.. Also the key code tracker in cwm doesn't respond.
Update2: I was wondering if it could be a kernel issue, is that possible?
AW: Some keys don't work
seems like u use the stock gb rom.
system version is all right. no us model. gb is is the european one.
there are very often problems with hw keyboard at ms2. i sent mine to service (dat repair here in germany, don't know your service point in NL) 3 times. now it works since 4 month without problem.
try the following:
1. do a factory reset, to be sure that the software installation is clean. (in settings menue)
if this doesn't help
2. root your phone (there is a how to here in this forum) and install ms2debounce app from app store. use the settings as shown on the pics on play store.
if this doesn't solve your problem, u definitly have to send your phone to service.
