It seems that N1 is the most stable of all the handsets I have seen. Another plus is that it gets all the updates first without the bloat.
Unfortunately it isn't publicly sold anymore so whats the next best thing?
I am on AT&T.
It is sold in the developer section of Google's android site. But it's for T-Mobile. I guess for at&t it would be the Samsung galaxy s phone.
What about HTC desire...?
i've seen some websites where they hint that it may include 850Mhz band for UMTS... it seems there is a provider either in Austria or Italy using these frequencies....
I am actually getting two androids.
One is the Galaxy S once the dust clears on froyo and hardware issues.
I also wanted an N1 like device for its stability and ROM updates. HTC Desire seems like the closest alternative but do I still have to wait on HTC to release their custom brewed ROMs? There also seems to be some minor hardware differences that make the N1 better.
Either that or you still have to wait on OpenDesire team to release adapted Nexus firmware for Desire when it comes out. The latter one takes much less time.
They are on craislist and ebay, I own 2 myself on Tmobile both purchased from said locations.
Craigslist will be better. I did locally. Att version cost more on eBay. Something about not available through Google bullchit. They will try to rip you off. After I bought the iPhone 4 and sold to buy my n1. I called every n1 owner to find out I they had att version. Pay much less too. For a one month old unit. Can't beat that. And don't regret it. But now alot of new phones coming soon. I hear that g2 is going to available through bell Canada. U could wait for that.

The Desire was released later than N1 and it has better multi-touch support (out of box), More RAM, Enabled FM transmitter etc- which i think makes Desire a better device on specs! But on software updates- N1 still beats all android sets though it aint that hard to keep Desire up-to-date aswel i guess!
Just laying down the records- i like my N1 better as far as time goes- on looks n updates.. but would love to have a Desire 'if i can have it for free i.e'

Yeah they've identical but not quite the same-
1. Desire has New touch sensor (Better multi-touch- nexus has problem distinguishing between fingers at time)
2. More RAm- 576 MB as opposed to N1's 512
3. Newer Bluetooth- 2.1+ vs N1's 2.0+ EDR
4. Desire is Dual-band- N1 is Tri-band
5. N1 has Noise-Cancellation- Desire Doesn't
6. Desire has better power-management than N1 (Tests on other sites)
7. N1 is Google-Dev Phone so will get faster updates while HTC ofcourse will play catch-up!
Umm That's as much as i could gather up- correct me if i'm wrong

doesn't the Desire also use the Clearpad 2000? If yes then it's the same as the N1.
@lukesky: sorry for my mistake- yes the desire has the same sensor as nexus and same multi-touch problem as nexus aswel.. Synaptics sensor wasn't originally made for multi-touch and thus the problem!
New phones seem to use Atmel MaxTouch sensor which is made for multi-touch and can track upto 16 points and is faster/responsive than the Synaptics!

I am selling one on ebay right now. Feel free to check it out.
lots of N1's on ebay, ATT's are not very common but usually dont go for much more than T-mobile 3G ones. i've seen used ones in the past 2-3 weeks go for anywhere from 350-450
i got mine off craigslist locally for 300, it was a steal of a deal, most people in my area are asking the same as what they go for on e-bay 350-450+ once again though ATT's are few and far between but they are out there.
N2 is on the way.

SO with so many NexusOne owners wanting the Desire ROM, I wonder if there are as many or more, Desire owners wanting the NexusOne ROM?!
Personally, I only reaaallllyy dislike having a physical trackball on my Nexus.
It kind of detracts from its sleekness. Otherwise, I LOVE IT!
There is no replacement for the best Android device made. Maybe if the Nexus Two is a reality that would be a great alternative but never a replacement. I am a very proud owner of the Nexus One with all the extras, desk top dock which I run my music thru to my boss stereo system and it is killer. I bought the G2 because it looked like the Nexus One's brother, great phone but not a replacement, there is only one Nexus One, get one if you can. I have had more phones then carter has pills and the Nexus One rules.

Dude!>!?!?!? Craigslist has them!!! Good deals!!
I have the N1 and I bought the Desire for my wife. After playing with hers I've seen it to be about the same as far as usage and functionality. The screen however is much better than my N1. I had to get her the A183 model for use on ATT.
Btw the new CM6.1 candidate build has enabled FM radio for N1. No longer just a feature for the Desire .

Both of those are downgrades, IMO. Why would you want to take a step backwards device-wise, even for a little extra money? Remorse is sure to ensue.
Vibrant is cheap plastic, and lots of issues with that phone (CPU lag, major GPS problems) and there is less developer support on XDA for Samsung phones. HD2 is old hardware, that phone was released Nov. 2009.
Check out this post by another guy that traded his G2 for the Vibrant, and totally regrets it. Don't be him.

Than try Desire HD, HD7, Evo Shift, Thunderbolt or something similar, but not outdated phones like HD2 ;-) And Samsung is not a choice at all IMO. Low quality, cheap plastic, disposable toys. They could'nt even make their own design and copy-cat'ed an iPhone.

If you like trying new phones, the HD2 doesn't qualify. Its a very old phone. 14 month old hardware may as well be 10 years in the smartphone business.
And a Android port is never going to run as well as a phone that is designed to run Android natively. So don't think that you will really have an Android phone on your hands if you buy an HD2 and flash an Android port. Old hardware that runs a very outdated OS, that also has the ability to run an Android port = not worth it.
I'm actually getting an HD2 to run Android and ditching my G2. It has the same hardware as my N1, which is running wonderfully and is a year old now, so I am not worried. I want the big screen, dual LED flash, and the Desire HD ROM. I've been waiting for T-Mo to announce a 4.3" HTC phone but who knows if it'll even happen at MWC so I am using the HD2 to hold me over until one ever comes to T-Mo.
just thought i'd let you guys know, i got the hd2 and am now running CM7 on NAND. its amazing. i love it
I had the hd2 before i got my z and it is a good phone with good support on xda. I just couldnt get used to its size. The z just "feels" better.
Not intending to start a flame thread. Just wondering. I may be getting the sensation.

If I got a phone from another manufacturer I wouldn't see it being anybody but HTC, though I always keep my eyes open for what's best. (No blind loyalty here!)
That said, everything I've seen about the SGS II makes it fairly clear it's set the bar on a whole new level... so barring some amazing discoveries I'll be going the SGS II route.
'course I just got my Vibrant yesterday but I've got a fairly voracious appetite as far as my toys go.
im actually suprised to see so many vibrant owners comtemplating samsung again. Yes, I am too. But I am definitely Very Cautions with our GPS problems, crappy software, and of course the Froyo debacle....
I am considering anything as it comes. At this point, seems the Sensation and GS2 seem to be the 2 worth waiting for. just really cautions with the GS2 given the Vibrant problems
My only concern with htc is battery life. If its not horrible, the sensation is a buy. I know the tbolt and evo had issues.

I agree with htc is near garbage. Every phone is damn near the same. Ive just purchased an sgs2 from uk. Ive had the hd2, hd7, DHD, Inspire and played with evo and a couple verizon version. Build quality is great except the lcd plasitc they use. I guess im spoiled by the gorilla glass after breaking and repairing a couple hd2s.
I guess I became a music addict over the last year and htc music quality is horrible. HD7 audio was the worst. HD2 was probably the best htc phone when it comes to audio.
I buy and sell alot of phones via Craigslist and eBay. I've had my Vibrant since October and this is honestly the longest I have kept a phone in the past 3-4 years. I absolutely love the phone.
I had the using (2) MY4Gs, and HD2, HD7, myTouch slide, (2) G2's, Cliq2's, (2) Blackberry Torches, Bold 9700 and 9780 etc etc etc. the list goes on. So far, the Vibrant has by far been been my favorite phone and I have had a great experience.
HTC, IMO is shaky in terms of build quality. No doubt, I felt the HD2/HD7 felt more substantial in the hand than the Vibrant. But you can't defend the fact that the HD2 is plagued with failure rates. At least once a week, I see broken ones pop up on CL. I also loved the 4.3" screens.
I felt the MY4G was sub-par compared to my vibrant, even though I felt it was still an excellent phone.
I will most likely get the GalaxyS2 a couple months after it comes out
right now the sgs2 is the only phone i'd switch from my vibrant for. i'm not really brand loyal, but i think samsung is quickly learning that their sgs users expect os updates and you can't beat their hardware. plus samsung seems to be pretty dev friendly considering odin, how easy the sgs was to root, and how quickly they have been releasing their source.
Hello fellow Vision Users,
Just thoughts I'd jump on here to open up a discussion. I first acquired a T-Mobile G2 when I dropped my MyTouch Slide and had to get an insurance replacement because i had broken the Camera lens. The phone still functioned fine and i was willing to live with it til someone informed me that Insurion didn't have my color in stock so my options were to get a Black MyTouch Slide (as opposed to Red) or the G2. Naturally i decided to get the G2 (because really, who wouldn't?). It's been my favorite phone since the Sidekick LX.
Anyway, a couple months ago I acquired a Sensation 4g from my Brother when he upgraded to a Galaxy S II. I Instantly rooted and put the best rated ICS Rom on it. Been Running OpenSensation ever since. Hands down best Aosp on that phone.
Since then I continue to Keep my G2 up to date. Currently running ILWT. While I haven't used it extensively since getting the Sensation I sincerely find myself missing my G2. While ICS runs pretty flawslessly on the sensation, I'm just really not "in love" with the phone. I haven't ran any ICS Roms for very long on the G2.
Sorry for the Long read but, what I'm basically getting at is that I'm pretty bummed at the fact HTC has decided that they "currently" have no plans for Qwerty phones. People make fun of Apple for releasing the same phone over and over, but really, what's wrong with that? Seriously, if HTC decided to make The G2 again with a snapdragon S4, maybe a slightly larger screen and some minor cosmetic changes (maybe no "Z-hinge") wouldn't you buy it again? I know I would!!!
TL;DR - I LOVE THIS PHONE and i want an updated version of THIS phone sometime in the future, I couldn't care less of "Thinness."
Fyi, I'm intoxicated,

ICS on the G2 is getting better and better. Most of the bugs have been killed by now.
I can understand your feelings of not getting a G3. It just really sucks.
I think I will just keep using my G2 for at least a year. Overclocked with ICS its still a great phone. Typing this with my hw keyboard still is way better then the virtual one..
I think that if HTC is not going to make a decent hw keyboard phone, someone else will. There are still lots of people that want a hw keyboard. If there is a market there will be a product
Ps. The G2 is not that old and HTC only gave updates for a very short time. I would think twice before getting a new HTC. This phone is more then capable to run ICS...

Like I've said, I'm currently using a Sensation, which I have on a permanent "borrow" lol. I agree, the G2 is plenty powerful for "old" hardware. And i love The hw keyboard. When it comes to every even thinking about giving up the g2..all I hear from other friends who were previous g2 owners is how much they miss it?!! lol
And how there new GS2 is compatible with this app...and they miss there qwerty board! And my main focus is I don't think there is another HTC phone that will come out with a better appearance then the g2! All the material that is used seems cheap! ....in my opinion.
I am thinking of getting a new phone soon too, however, I still will be keeping my DZ with me. The main reason why I am considering getting a new phone is that I am starting to feel it being just a bit outdated. New apps and games tend to lag pretty often even with all the tweaks Ive made.
Anyway, I still love my phone. Though I dont use the HW keyboard much lately, it comes in handy when I have to type in long messages like this post.
I really hope we will see another HTC device with a keyboard soon.

I'm noticing this as well. All the newer games, even little word games, lag my phone. If you open more than two of them, our beloved g2 just can't handle it anymore. Been exclusively using my G2 for about a week now, put the Aokp port on it, and I have to say it runs fairly well, sure certain things lag but that's expected. For a single core it still handles everything just as well as any current mid range to low range phone.
Personally I Never play games on the G2 so that doesn't really matter to me. For web browsing, checking facebook, twitter, texting, web browsing and of course making calls it's still perfectly capable.

Bear in mind the current fiasco with ICS and the Desire HD.
So are you going to jump the HTC ship?
Ya well, the one series was a miss with consumers at large ,can't imagine what would have happened if the one x for example had sd card storage and a battery access

Well I wouldn't want them to die, afterall competition is always good, however I've decided that my DHD shall be my last HTC phone after all that has happened. I'm contemplating on waiting for the next Google phone, immediate updates and a bugless AOSP experience, what else could one ask for?
That is what you get when you mess with all the HTC Desire HD owners!!! Not releasing ICS for their most sold phone and telling their costumers lies about HTC Desire HD performance. And the same with HTC Desire.

That is the general consensus I am feeling form this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396842
It’s a shame that a company with a lot of promise has now just peed of its fan base and almost washed their hand of them.
If you look at the number of ROMs in the development thread you can see that people pretty much rooted their HTC Desire HD as soon as they got them as the hardware far out preformed the software that was loaded and any potential update (although we all knew these wouldn’t come to light! lol )

Don't forget Samsung is from South Korea, so why keep spending money on SK if you know that "everyone" in SK has a Samsung phone :silly:
I hope they won't cancel the ICS update for developers. They had the same problem with Gingerbread update for the Desire.
They never released it as an OTA update, but they released it for developers.
So let's hope they do the same with Desire HD (in the future).
About One-series. It's indeed a sad story, but I think why most people didn't bought the One-phones was because most of them were probably waiting to see the Galaxy SIII and it seems that the SIII is the number one choice now for lots of Android users.
That or the New Galaxy Nexus (fingers crossed it won’t be produced by HTC) that will ruin the Nexus name IMO

Why would HTC ruin it? I like HTC's hardware
1 months ago I planned to buy the One X along with one of my best friends and I almost sell my DHD (it even already entered the "For Sale" thread in one of Indonesia's largest community forum). But after I read so much informations from early adopter of One X about how bad is the HTC's quality control over One X hardware productions I hold my decisions to upgrade because I don't wanna spend my time dealing with HTC service center.
