Not happy with Android

Android has a long road to catch with iOS4 - im very depressed with the lack of quality control in the Android OS - it sucks - I guess it teaches Google that going from web devolpment to other plataforms is not that easy.
The App Store doesn't have any sort of quality control or centralized payment system.
There isn't a way to remove your Google ID from your phone.
I'm very unhappy with my phone - Iphone is much better. So many cool apps that will never appear on the Android thanks to Google incompetence

What were you expecting?
Everything is different, if you wanted an iPhone, you should buy an iPhone, not expect a different product to be exactly the same.
This has nothing to do with the X10 though. Is there an "Android" forum on here, not for any particular phone, but for the OS itself?
(Edit: Google Checkout seems pretty "centralized" to me... dunno what you mean about that.)

Try this
go to settings....
go to Applications...
go to Manage applications...
Scroll down till you find “Google Apps” click on it...
Simply hit the "Clear data"....
ALL YOU CONTACTS AND EVERYTHING GOOGLE RELATED WILL BE GONE
Now navigate back to the main settings window and go to Online service accounts...Google should be free for your new account inputs.

Wow slow down man, a long road for iOS yes, Android is far far far better then iOS. My wife owns an iphone 4 and every time i pick it up to play with it i just feel sorry for it (swipe left, swipe right ) beleive me man Android is for MEN real MEN iphone is for people that have no computer orientation whatsoever it just works and thats it. For me i really cant beleive how much behind iOS is, you cant do anything on it! I dont know wich world you live in but please explain how is android behind? explain man.. Seriously i dont mean to be rude or anything but sometimes when i hear something like that i want to smack myself in the head because i cant beleive there is people stupid enough to claim that kind of thing... iOS is like you bought a house that you cant furnish the way you want, you cant decorate it the way you want, you cant repaint it, you cant do **** with it except open the fridge and eat whatever is in it weather you like it or not, or you want a softer bed but you cant change it, you want a different couch? guess what you cant change it....anything you want to change or have your way you cant! you can only use it however you bought it .... i hope you get the point. Honestly, I do not think Apple is better than Android. They're simply too different ios. Theirs things that Apples os does better and theirs things that Android ios does better. Think about it. You probably say you prefer Apple over Android because you don't have froyo 2.2 on your phone yet. Android is amazing in my opinion. Full web content via adobe flash 10.1 (iphone cannot do every website in flash), you can not change the ui like Android, free turn by turn voice navigation, the ability to do something as simple as make phone calls and not have them drop because you do not have a case on your phone. Not one android phone needs a case to make a phone call. Apple is just now offering multitask, Android has been doing this since day one! One of the reasons why most people think iphone is the best is because of Apples marketing. Apple is smart when it comes to marketing. They only sold 3 different models (correct me if I'm wrong). 3g, 3gs and 4g and they all look similar so almost all accessories can be used through them all, they have millions of accessories. They have "i"everything. idock, ialarm, i etc. They are very smart! iphone isn't a bad phone but I do not think Android sucks compared to Apple like you make it sound. If you like iphone so bad then sell your phone or trade it for an iphone. Thanks for letting me vent.

To the OP. You are honestly the first person ive ever heard say this. Most people are blown away by Android, especially considering how new it is. Most will agree it is more robust and more powerful and has much much more potential than iOS.

OP When you buy a phone, smart or otherwise, you should have a look at the operating as the OS and it app support and layout are the selling points to any phone. you should have enquired into how apps are paid for before you paid the money for the phone.
If YOU forgot to check if the things that were important to YOU ar present in OS then its really your fault not googles

I had all these issues on stock firmware lol it is sad. But on cm6, it us all fixed, except wifi tether heat and no island. Oh and the porn, but I don't really do that on the phone anyways

What do I get? A fast and responsive phone running 2.2 that lasts 2 days on a charge. Sorry you have bad luck, or haven't optimized your phone to get the best out of it. Also, the "I shouldn't have to" excuse is weak if you're so disappointed in a phone that came out a year ago. I can't wait until the next big sprint phone comes along but to be honest I have nothing to complain about, I'm that satisfied. HUGE difference from the ****ty instinct I had before. lol
I don't get these farewell threads, just make the switch and move on. Maybe some here will follow your twitter but most of us are more concerned with the Hero. Not trying to be a ****, and I'm sure you're a nice guy and all, but I fail to understand why the world must be notified as to a person's purchases.

On a side note i bought an evo yesterday had an upgrade I was holding for a while... this phone is awesome I don't think ill be buying a tab now.
Don't worry guys ill stick around since ill always have a soft spot for the hero forum. I think its produced some of the best Serbs and themers

I had a ****ty instinct too! I bought 2 of them, one for me and one for wife. It was to be the iphone killer! Yeah right I remember they held a app contest, trying to get more developers to make apps for the phone. All that came was a few apps and a bunch of complaining from the dev that sprint wont release code to access things they needed to make the apps work! Frickin Sprint has been screwing people for a loooong time!!! Yet what do I do when its upgrade time? Get the newest POS Maybe next time I will hold out for the release that comes after the "new release" ie, hero/evo Thanks to all the devs who made my and everyones else's hero manageable

Is CM7 too good?

So I just got CM7 beta installed and the communications lady at my place of business comes to my desk and says "Oh, you have the Atrix? Do you want me to order you a lapdock for it?"
Sucks to be me, right?
I had her order the thing because we are doing a lot of cool stuff with citrix receiver and how awesome would it be if I could have an atrix running Windows via citrix reciever
But now -- I cant bring myself to remove CM7. I've thought about it many times.
I've been in recovery with my finger hovering over the button to flash back to stock GB
But I love CM7 too much. I don't want to go back to blur.
It would be like -- having an Atrix and the someone telling you you had to use this HTC Incredible 2 instead.
I think I have the solution. I am going to go back to the communications lady and request a 2nd Atrix -- for testing purposes only of course.

Webtop will most likely be working once the dev team release a RC build. But who knows how long that may be.

Seriously, I have the same problem. I keep going back and forth.
I like CM7, but I actually miss some of the crap that Moto put in the Atrix rom. And the webtop. Most of the time it's fairly useless, but when I need it, it's golden. And the Citrix Receiver is awesome, I have fun explaining to everyone that the phone is the laptop (just like those stupid ads).

+1 for citrix receiver being awesome. People are blown away when I launch photoshop in 3 seconds because its being run by a quad core xeon with 16GB Ram

OMFG. Do you have job openings? I can do marketing. Will work for free tech and free pizza.

I don't see what the CM7 rave is all about. I've had too many Android phones to list and I tried CM on all of them. It serves a good purpose for phones which are slow to get updated or don't have any good custom roms, but I don't see the purpose with the Atrix as I felt the same way with the Evo and Evo 3D. The loss of certain functionality isn't worth it in my opinion. I don't have a lapdock, but being able to go somewhere and plug in the HDMI and have an easy no nonsense way of playing music, videos and pictures. Motoblur is not intrusive either like Sense can be at times.
I'm just offering my opinion and not trying to start an arguement, but I truely want to know why so many people "must" use it. Am I missing something? I used it for two days until I went to watch a movie and only had HDMI mirroring with no landscape support. I must say battery life and performance was great, but it's not bad on Alien rom either though.

For informations, I really like that
Searching the web and accompanying the operation with a friend, I see that there are some outstanding issues to resolve, as the case of battery and FM radio. But, in the future, I wish to install on my Xperia X10 Mini Pro.

CM7 just seems snappier, Im guessing because there are fewer processes running. That being said, I ran Alien prior to CM7 and I have been running Alien ever since I originally posted this (i caved because I really wanted to try out the lapdock) and I agree, That rom is very fast compared to the stock GB, thanks to kennethpen's work.

Keep in mind its still beta

Completely agreed. I admit I use it for phones like the BACKFLIP and the CLIQ XT. Phones that are slow and buggy stock and need to be cleaned up or have major driver/coding issues. But the atrix? Stock 2.3.4 rooted debloated is an absolute dream: silky smooth, insanely fast, and 20 hour battery life. And lapdock STILL works.
I think it's kind of like Google Chrome or Firefox. Even though IE9 flies and does everything correctly on win 7 ultimate x64 and a quadcore with a good graphics card...people still use Chrome or Firefox. Just that whole rebellious don't let the man put you down type mentality.

That and Chrome is a bizzillion times faster than IE, and a bizzillion times lighter on system resources than IE.... kinda like CM7

i like cm7 because chainfire runs perfect,
in all the others gb roms if i install the app every time i revert to portrait from landscape screen becomes crazy full of artifacts...
and of course booting up in less than 40 sec with 120 app installed...incredible!

except IE9 is so much better when it comes to css3 and gpu aided html5. and other than that, almost the exact same resources footprint. oh, and try twitter on chrome and look at your cpu load, then do it on ie9 and compare..also..ie9 doesn't change my registry, chrome does, in many ways, and they DON'T TELL YOU IT DOES.
if it's really about speed, opera destroys chrome, firefox, and IE.
and if it's about usability, I've never seen a better browser than safari.

The beauty of Android is that you don't have to use the packaged launcher if you don't like it. That goes for any ROM that packages a non stock Android launcher.
The nice thing about CM7, besides being one of the more popular ROMs, is that there are a lot of developers for it and in most cases it runs better than the stock ROM. When the vendor stops supporting the phone, the CM devs keep going.
I've used CM across 3 different phones and in all cases it was superior to stock, even on my Atrix which is still in beta. Now I do miss the fingerprint reader and having audio out work through the car dock but these will eventually get added.

Slowly Disappearing!

Has anyone else noticed the Devs are slowly leaving us for more updated devices? I for one would just like to express my gratitude to each and every one of them! I think I've tried them all at some point! I'll be joining you with either the one x or galaxy s3 as soon as my contract is up! I salute you!

No doubt it's quieter now in the development section but still there has been some ICS roms released in the development forum. I know ARHD is expected to get a new DHD version as soon as HTC releases the ICS update.

But it's sad that development is pretty stagnant for our DHD's now, flashed nearly every ROM thats in this forumm

Most all the devs are on different phones as right now there is more going on, more to do. Desire HD is mostly just waiting on HTC to release ICS drivers and kernel source.

I think it's a shame too, but it's the natural progression of things.
I like to keep the Desire HD ROM list on my site up-to-date, so I check a few times a day, but it has been quiet recently.
For anyone who has changed to the One X from the Desire HD, is the experience somehow much better (apart from the novelty of having a new device)?
My contract has 6 more months. I hope to get and support another decent phone, come that time. I'll still support and update lists for the DHD, for the foreseeable future.

It does seem that development has been a bit less vigorous than it used to be, but there's still some really exciting work being done. Currently using IceColdSandwich, which is a contender for the best ROM I've ever used - developed in the past several months. The Primo-S based ROMs are pretty good as well. Think we'll see new versions of the old favorites (LeeDroid, ARHD, etc.) once HTC releases ICS. In my view it's worth hanging onto the DHD for another year.

Yeah, my Desire HD had been in my drawer for a week, went to use it today and It just feels.....Wrong
Just everything is so much more polished on the One X IMO,

Coming from the Desire HD, it is a nice improvement. Not mind blowing, but still a great upgrade.
In terms of the battery, my usage has not changed and I get the same, if not slightly longer, time between charges. As per screen shots below.

I still despise HTC Sense, but it has great features that you would not find on AOSP or CM9 for a while, namely the camera.
If you've been reading the One X forums you'd see a lot of negative posts & threads. Don't let them put you off, negative "press" will always out number positive by a factor of about 15 (once told that by a marketing & PR guy).

Yeah. If I could get one now, I would. My finances are such that, I should really wait for my contract to expire, though.
Funnily enough, I already copied and pasted a One X onto my site, just to see what it looked like! I'll be keeping a close eye on new devices, for the next 6 months.
Trying to squeeze as much juice and performance out of that quad core, by flashing different ROM's, sounds like fun. So too does using NFC for the first time.

In that case, as soon as they come to Japan, I must track one down in a store and cop a quick feel.

I think that the devs will no longer mantain their roms... The reason is REAL life.
On free time they will develop the rom for their actual device, like they made with DHD some time ago.
Complaining is useless, trust me.
I think i will sell this device...

Actually, as mentioned by shaky above, there are many devs working on "their" roms whether they are ICS roms (on which the work is slower) or GB roms, on which the work is slow as well due to them being mostly bug free.

I was in no way complaining! I was honoring the past, present and future devs of xda! I was fortunate to be here during honeysense, ARHD, lordclokan, and many many many more to many to list while typing via my phone! I praise you all!

I've had the 10.1 since day 1 in the US.I watched the "Development" and the "Original Development" forums start out slow then swell to huge numbers where there was a new ROM every day it seemed.I remember when JB came out and we all started out with Darkman's German release ( I stayed up most of the night hitting refresh as more and more people commented on the progress of their individual downloads to see who would be the first few to flash it) ...now it seems very quiet indeed . I dont think there has been a better tablet made yet than this one (as far as pure hardware stats go plus the s-pen) sure a few have higher stats in one area or the other but from my research I would say that 8013/8000/8010 are still King.Possibly with the exception of 8020.
Anyway Ive rambled long enough but if anyone has any thoughts I'd love to hear them.Again the question was.1)Has ayone else noticed a drop off in traffic in "Note 10.1 Original Android Development" & "Note 10.1 Android Development"?
2)Why do you think its happening?

I think you're right. Fewer posts, less frenzy. I guess our beloved Note 10.1 is old news now. With consumers 10 second attention span, those of us with Notes are "so yesterday". That's okay. I still love mine and plan to keep it for long time.

I have also noticed a lack of participation lately. Checked Ebay only 58 used vs 203 new active auctions for Note 10.1's. So........ not a lot of jumpers.
I had expected to see more posts last night as a new build was pushed out to me yesterday.
But all seems quiet.

Don't forget, as the weather improves in the Northern Hemispere more people are getting outside for RL activities. Forums see more activity when the weather outside is uninviting.

samsung have pretty much nailed it for me, with the stock rom, so for the 1st time no need flash anything else.

I have also noticed a decline in activity, but I plan on starting kernel development over the summer mainly for baked#8.
Don't expect any miracles as I am only just starting developing

I would agree with some of the others above and some from other post in this forum. The note is one of the best most well thought out android devices. The only device i have ever owned that i have not played with the rom on. Thou Im considering the extra mutli rom app to add a few non muli view apps to mulit view.. But with that said more and more apps are becoming available for multi view.. Samsung has done well with the note no doubt..
Conclusion is.. There is less people in this forum because there are more people Happy with the Note and what it offers Stock. Rom dev has slowed because the note is great as is. Also i will add i think its a tougher device to mess with its Rom due to s-pen and the touch wiz

I thought I'd hate TW, but other than rooting it (and upgrading the kernel out of habit 'cause that's what I do for a living anyway) I run a Stock ROM.

more updates will come and new ROM will be made .. 4.1.2 has been out for a while and 4.2 should be coming soon.. also not many things wrong with note on stock and cm based ROM is not taking advantage of the note full features.. Maybe Google will add some of Samsung features in android 5.0..

Just read last night that the note 10.1 has only about 3% of android tablet market share. I was surprised it was so low. Maybe that's why there isn't a lot of activity.

The price point is too high for the note 19.1or 8 to get much market share. Samsung is rolling in the dough because of carrier subsidies of their high end phones. If those end, they're going to have to make adjustments to their pricing or they stand to see their market share fall.

Let's hope Samsung can unbreak JB 4.2. Nexus device owners are reporting in the Google Code forums that BT remains broken in the latest iteration of 4.2. Audio BT seems completely broken (including in auto BT systems) while other BT devices may connect but then shut down, requiring a device reboot. Merging Android into Chrome doesn't bode well, which seems to be the direction Google is going as evidenced by the shift of Android to the manager of Chrome.

Looks like the results are based on devices that install their app. Not really an accurate gauge imo

I used to frequent the Asus Transformer forums a lot because I was going crazy with installing different roms and doing whatever I can to the device. With the Note, I actually use it for pretty well-defined purposes and so I haven't really had any inclination to change it in any way since it's already so damned useful. I mean, once I got the multiwindow to work for all apps, I didn't need any additional customizing so I only occasionally glance at these forums. :/ The troubles of being so good.

That's pretty much true. The N7100 forum is pretty quiet too. Want to see a ghost town, go check out the TF700 forum. The Note 10.1's nine months old which, in the tech world, means not so fresh anymore. I still wouldn't trade mine for anything. So, no news is good news. Samsung's been pushing features of their newer devices down via updates so 4.2 with some of the SGS4's stuff should give us something to talk about.
