Bye Bye Vibrant =(

So today I returned my Vibrant and removed my Nexus One from Ebay. It's sad that such a beautiful phone had to be returned but I couldn't cope with some major issues:
1) GPS (I dont care if there is a fix, it SHOULD work out of the box)
2) Laggy Market
3) Laggy Homescreen
4) Tethering issues (Using barnacle and IPad)
I will miss the screen... it was amazing... along with some of the features of touchwiz. However, the fact that TMobile confirmed that they will be launching an HSPA+ phone this summer makes me feel that much better about waiting to upgrade.

Feel better? Goodness it's like at least 5 people have to start this type of thread on every board I visit for any type of device. I can't wait for the usual people to come in and make this a 10 page thread

And when the TMO releases the new HSPA+ phone it will have a plethora of issues on its own, good luck

I really don't set the point of these types of posts, so you are unhappy and experience issues that not everyone is. Does that mean I should annoyingly post about how great mine is working? My HD2 gave me problems everyday but I didn't post about it. My slide worked perfectly but I didn't post about it. Again gps is not everyone, I have tried the following apps:
Yelp
Yellow book
Find me
Places directory
Maps
Where
Layers
And google
ALL were able to find my location (locked)
Everything else hasn't happened to my phone yet
So really what is the point in posting that you are returning the phone, because I'm sure you have already posted the problems.

Oh man you should have seen the Evo 4G forums then. This is nothing compared to that.

If i'd've had a N1, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a Vibrant now. N1 to Vibrant is probably not that big an improvement, but G1 (even rooted) to Vibrant is HUGE!

Sorry you didn't like your Vibrant!
I personally have had none of those issues, in fact, I have had not one force close or restart, the phone has been on and running without a single hitch since the day it was released and I picked it up at the T-mobile store.
This has been the best out of box experience I have ever had with a phone, especially one that was just released.

I agree on both accounts. When we get 2.2 OTA or mod it will prove to be the best phone available.

Your patience (or lack thereof) got the best of you.phone had only been out a week. Name me one device that was perfect upon release? Take care and cya, I'll enjoy the vibrant for you =)

1. will work after OTA
2. Did you root? Haven't heard of significant issues pre-root
2. thats because it's filled with bulky widgets. Remove a few. I'm running 5 widgets (2 of the samsung ones) and a live wallpaper with no lag (did no lag fixes or anything)
4. Barnacle doesn't work without root. Doesn't work consistently with root because the phone just came out and they haven't added support for it yet. New hardware for a currently unsupported root feature. Hopefully it'll be included in 2.2, but if not, the tether programs should be updated soon.

I think you should have waited before getting the phone in the first place. Nothing come out perfect.

I also purchased the Vibrant to use as a wireless hotspot with my iPad. I am going to give it time. I probably wouldn't have upgraded from an N1 though.

I turned on the phone and I'm not kidding I went straight to ever screen and removed every widget and turned off all but one screen. I mean I really don't need 7 screens when I use the same few apps all the time.
I think the only issue's I've noticed is.
- Camera FC on me once.
- Antenna boucing all over the place signal wise. Full Bars, half bars, no bars. Who knows, but it still works.
I think the only rock solid phone I've ever purchased and it just worked was my old Side Kick. It wasn't fancy or flashy and of course doesn't do half the stuff that these newer phones do.

For me:
Notifications keep phone awake
I get FC when I try to add picture to contact
Slow market (rooted)
Antenna bars jump left and right, but it doesnt seem to effect the signal....

It's a genuine concern. Stop getting so defensive that people are having issues. Not everyone can afford to drop $500+ every two months on the latest and greatest. A new smartphone is an investment, and if it doesn't work as advertised, that's not the fault of the consumer. Also, keep in mind, 14 days is not a lot of time. We don't even know for sure if this is something that Samsung can or will fix.
Some of you are willing to accept that risk, and trust that a fix is coming. That's fine. Some of us are not as bold when it comes to such investments.
So, yes, we may get an announcement, by the 15th day, that everything is going to be fixed and we won't have to worry. But what if that announcement never shows up? What if they just shrug their shoulders and say, "Eh, good enough"?
Well, like I said, $500+ is a lot of money to gamble when it comes to the good faith of a corporation. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous about them supporting this device properly.
I love my Vibrant, save for these reception issues with the various radios. I live in one of the best coverage spots in my city, and I've been having calls go straight to voicemail all week; my GPS takes 5 minutes to even lock, and when it does, the radius is 2-4 blocks wide; the compass does not work at all, and the phone will assume I'm driving and moving when I'm stationary because of these problems. As of today, it does not appear as if either company is acknowledging the issue. That said, if a statement isn't released soon, I'll be returning it to sit on the sidelines until a fix is announced -- as much as I'd miss the display.

It's just getting started. Not only that, when they return the phone it'll continue to pester on. Oh x -- x and x doesn't work, it's this and that.. no, I haven't exchanged it or I've gotten 5 already and it's not going to be fixed because once I do this, that happens.. and on and on and on and on and on and..

Pawned a couple things to buy the Xoom... regret it?/?

so i was finally able to afford the wifi only Xoom, and i knew i wanted it over the ipad. Reason being, I have a HTC Evo and before that i had an HTC Hero.I've rooted them and flashed them with diferent roms,kernels, themes, and all that good stuff that we can do on our "open source" OS that IOS cannot. butttttttttttttt........
after playing with the Xoom for the past 2 days i kind of do not feel satisfied. Main reason for this is the apps.... i love using apps... Android seems to have less than 100 tablet optimized apps and that really sucks for me. its been a month and a half since the release of the xoom.
things making me want to keep it:
-sd card
-very customizible (if thats a word)
-i tethered to evo and it was blazing fast on 3g
-not wanting to be like everyone else that gets an ipad
-eventually i guess.. more free apps
-camera has led flash
-youtube app
etc...
and just because its freekin Android... (gotta love it)
things making me want to get an ipad2:
-currently has more apps
-even though it has lower resolution screen looks better
-faster response when flickin

Serious advice: sell/return it and get the iPad.
Reason for advice: Nevermind that you can use loads of current mobile apps on the Xoom, if what you're looking for is a buttload of tablet apps then an Android tablet is not for you... yet.

the apps will eventually find their way on the xoom and other android tablets. Remember when you first got your Hero how many apps there were? OK there were more than 100 but the number of apps has grown exponentially over the past 2 years as more and more people acquired android smartphones. The same will go for the tablet - and as more and more ppl acquire android tablets the bigger the market for developers and the more apps we will find. Developers will need the honeycomb sdk to optimise their apps for the platform and whenever it gets out to them we will see the number of apps grow exponentially too. It may take another 6 months or so for our favourite android apps to become tablet-optimised.... And what matters to me is not the number of apps but their quality: I don't need 100 fart apps on my tablet and if you look at your smartphone you'd realise you only use a small number of apps (up to 30 maybe?). It is those apps that have to find their way on the tablet platform, I don't care much about the other ones I'll never use. Whenever they do, you'll be far more satisfied with your device. In the end it's all down to us and our commitment to the platform. if there's no market for developers there won't be any quality apps for us to play with.

Or just do what I did and buy a xoom and an iPad 2...

I know I was annoyed that a lot of the non-tablet optimized apps appeared shrunk on the Xoom screen (with the fixed dimensions of a phone); but after downloading Spare Parts and disabling compatibility mode having the apps fill out the entire screen makes these apps look less awkward.

Get the ipad. Android isn't about the apps. Its good because apps aren't needed to make the device functional. Its good because it has a full browser and file system and its good to tinker with. If you simply want apps apps apps then it isn't the platform for you

Advantages of having a Xoom are more and better than having an ipad. Like i pointed out in the first post.

Hmmm, you also pointed out in the first post that you were not satisfied with the Xoom because of a lack of apps and that one of the reasons you would like to get an iPad was because it had more apps. I'm not seeing your logic in your second post.
I don't have an agenda with a specific OS, people should get what they like.
Anyway, it's good that you're not going down the route of evil

Well, they do say a boy would be easier to raise lol...
But seriously, I think if you need mega apps right now and you can't wait a few more months for Honeycomb apps to appear return the Xoom and get a ipad 2(or even an ipad if you want to go cheaper route), but if you want more then just apps Xoom is what you should keep. Also remember google apps(ex. maps, navigation, etc) will always be perfected on Android before iOS stuff.

Can I point out that I'm a developer on the android platform and I'm currently working on a Honeycomb app at home, and once we cover the beaurocracy, our company will be releasing honeycomb / tablet optimised apps too.
Also, these apps can and have at times taken 2+ months to build from the ground up.
Honeycomb is a huge difference from previous versions in terms of the application design and workflow.
You need patience for these things. If you want something quick that's optimised specially I'm sure I can throw a couple of apps together, iamrich or a nice multicolour screen torch, or something in 5 minutes...

Hmmmmm has anyone loaded and tested ICS for UK three network ? i believe it was released today at 0600am and is available to download from samfirmware, however im unable to log in ?servers full .............
I would be gobsmacked if its the same as the first lpq release (buggy), which I am still using and has given me poor poor poor battery life 1.6 days of light use..... and yes i did a full wipe , ive never used titanium i always start as a completely new setup, rooted and removed bloat.
its crazy how all us peeps on here spend so much time researching upgrading flashing rooting customizing tweaking reinstalling deleting and for what .... because lets face it the bottom line is the galaxy s2 will never have great battery life because 1. its screen size and 2. its battery
All I want from samsung is a minimalistic stable rom with great battery life
I actually cant believe all the blurry videos i've took of my daughter growing up with the galaxy s2 and then ICS comes along and for the most part fixes it ..... its crazy how on earth was the phone first released with such poo video recording well at least its better now

I'm using 3uk ics now.downloaded from check fuz and installed via mobile odin . Running smooth . It is lpq, but I was on polish lpq before and didn't have ANY of the issues you mentioned, I was also getting 3 days battery out of it... Think you should check your setup.

Some people need to wind their neck in and realise advancements in battery tech is slow due to engineers and innovators struggling with the laws of physics, so until we get mini fusion reactors in our smartphones we will have to consider 20-24 hours of normal use before it needs juice the norm. They don't have the luxury of the Ipads size (which is just basically a massive smartphone.) to whack in a massive battery.
Either that or just buy a Nokia 6310.....

LPQ has poor battery life compared to uk generic 2.3.4 ki4 official rom which gave me around 3 days light use with the exact same setup.
I know car batterys are different from phone batterys but the advanced technology is there for both ! it is just slowly trickled out in harmoney with other consumer giants to keep the economy and there bank balance happy. i.e the commercial technology groups said hdtv would be the highest resolution physically possible on a screen yet they have produced 4k tvs ! they have had the affordable technolgy released in the ipad 3 when they released the first ipad ....its all clever marketing slowly trickled out

I got it running fine after a few issues with not being able to unzip it at first
It's noticeably smoother in general and some live wallpapers run with a better frame rate
Face unlocking works fine too
But God the 3 UK version is full of Bloatware so I may go back to my unbranded GB until they release a 4.0.3 version

I think Samsung are being lazy since this is XX but should be XW for the UK, anyway its a bag of sh1t and should never have been released on Kies, I guess the masses put them under pressure to release "something" and "something" we got.

It's the same as the open LPQ one, and i guess it should have duplicate sms bug.
i extracted & deodexed it and it's exactly the same as other LPQ builds.

Ok so i'll wait for ita/fra/uk/de NO BRAND ics rom

rooted ok and cwm all works ok
had top unmount n mount sd card to get music albums n copilot to work
live screens run great
dunno bout battery life as ive been hammering all my apps on it today to check them all out.
ill check out battery life tomorrow if i can stop playing around with it

Slowly Disappearing!

Has anyone else noticed the Devs are slowly leaving us for more updated devices? I for one would just like to express my gratitude to each and every one of them! I think I've tried them all at some point! I'll be joining you with either the one x or galaxy s3 as soon as my contract is up! I salute you!

No doubt it's quieter now in the development section but still there has been some ICS roms released in the development forum. I know ARHD is expected to get a new DHD version as soon as HTC releases the ICS update.

But it's sad that development is pretty stagnant for our DHD's now, flashed nearly every ROM thats in this forumm

Most all the devs are on different phones as right now there is more going on, more to do. Desire HD is mostly just waiting on HTC to release ICS drivers and kernel source.

I think it's a shame too, but it's the natural progression of things.
I like to keep the Desire HD ROM list on my site up-to-date, so I check a few times a day, but it has been quiet recently.
For anyone who has changed to the One X from the Desire HD, is the experience somehow much better (apart from the novelty of having a new device)?
My contract has 6 more months. I hope to get and support another decent phone, come that time. I'll still support and update lists for the DHD, for the foreseeable future.

It does seem that development has been a bit less vigorous than it used to be, but there's still some really exciting work being done. Currently using IceColdSandwich, which is a contender for the best ROM I've ever used - developed in the past several months. The Primo-S based ROMs are pretty good as well. Think we'll see new versions of the old favorites (LeeDroid, ARHD, etc.) once HTC releases ICS. In my view it's worth hanging onto the DHD for another year.

Yeah, my Desire HD had been in my drawer for a week, went to use it today and It just feels.....Wrong
Just everything is so much more polished on the One X IMO,

Coming from the Desire HD, it is a nice improvement. Not mind blowing, but still a great upgrade.
In terms of the battery, my usage has not changed and I get the same, if not slightly longer, time between charges. As per screen shots below.

I still despise HTC Sense, but it has great features that you would not find on AOSP or CM9 for a while, namely the camera.
If you've been reading the One X forums you'd see a lot of negative posts & threads. Don't let them put you off, negative "press" will always out number positive by a factor of about 15 (once told that by a marketing & PR guy).

Yeah. If I could get one now, I would. My finances are such that, I should really wait for my contract to expire, though.
Funnily enough, I already copied and pasted a One X onto my site, just to see what it looked like! I'll be keeping a close eye on new devices, for the next 6 months.
Trying to squeeze as much juice and performance out of that quad core, by flashing different ROM's, sounds like fun. So too does using NFC for the first time.

In that case, as soon as they come to Japan, I must track one down in a store and cop a quick feel.

I think that the devs will no longer mantain their roms... The reason is REAL life.
On free time they will develop the rom for their actual device, like they made with DHD some time ago.
Complaining is useless, trust me.
I think i will sell this device...

Actually, as mentioned by shaky above, there are many devs working on "their" roms whether they are ICS roms (on which the work is slower) or GB roms, on which the work is slow as well due to them being mostly bug free.

I was in no way complaining! I was honoring the past, present and future devs of xda! I was fortunate to be here during honeysense, ARHD, lordclokan, and many many many more to many to list while typing via my phone! I praise you all!

This is my first impression of the G5 and I'm sure once the stock and custom roms start rolling out I will have a much better experience with my phone. I picked up my new LG G5 a hour ago from my local Sprint retailer and I have already run into a few problems that kind of bother me about the phone. I switched from my Nexus 6 to this phone and I would have to say I do enjoy the feel of the phone and the fact of it being smaller and easier to hold. This is the only good thing I have really noticed about the phone so far though. The volume rocker on the left side of the phone seems very strange and would be much more ergonomic with it remaining on the back or on the right side to be easily accessible with the thumb. The G5 does not have an app drawer with the current software even though there were leaks saying that they were actually going to end up adding the app drawer for this phone. The software seems as if it went for a more Apple style design with a more vivid color scheme. I ended up looking through some of the apps and there are advertisements in the voicemail app which just seems wrong. I have already ran into a bug which should be expected with any new release of a phone of course and this bug happens when I double tap on a notification on the lock screen it locks the screen instead of opening the application which I really hope wasn't the intended purpose. So far the phone isn't as great as I expected it to be.

Have you checked right? T-Mobile users said that the app drawer is there, like seen in the GUI Official Video (not a leek)

It is there if you use easy mode on your launcher as far as i know.

I only really play Clash of Clans as far as game intensive on my phone and it ran very smoothly for the little bit that I was on it. The camera is far superior to any phone I have had in the past and the quality is great. The option for the regular launcher with an app drawer does not exist on my device which is no problem since I do not like the launcher in general and the Google Now Launcher is far superior to LG's. The biggest problem I have started to see with the device now is the fact the battery is weak as can be. I'm not sure if there isn't enough data collected yet to give an accurate estimate on how long the battery will last. I took the first screenshot of the battery usage before I used any high usage applications and it already was showing that my phone would last an hour and 47 minutes when it was at 41%. I would add screenshots to this but, I don't have over 10 posts yet so that isn't possible so I sent them to @Soufiansky so he can post them instead.

I was going to get the S7 Edge but it's not rootable, so it is a huge deterrent for me

I came from the Nexus 6 as well and honestly I like the size of the G5 it is smaller but not too small in the hand where it feels like you are holding nothing.

What about the module thing ? I saw a lot of issues about it these days

I don't own a module and I don't really see the purpose of owning one to be completely honest. It's basically just buying add-ons if you prefer having them or not. I enjoy having the naked look of a sleek looking phone without having a bunch of stuff all over it. It really comes down to the person if they want the parts or not and personally I don't the parts won't make the phone any worse and if the modules really just fail then it won't have any overall effect on the performance of the phone itself.

No i was talking about the stock battery module , you haven't faced any issue ? Because some people were reporting bad screen colors reproduction next to the module , others said it started taking off....etc.
