Not happy with Android - XPERIA X10 General

Android has a long road to catch with iOS4 - im very depressed with the lack of quality control in the Android OS - it sucks - I guess it teaches Google that going from web devolpment to other plataforms is not that easy.
The App Store doesn't have any sort of quality control or centralized payment system.
There isn't a way to remove your Google ID from your phone.
I'm very unhappy with my phone - Iphone is much better. So many cool apps that will never appear on the Android thanks to Google incompetence

What were you expecting?
Everything is different, if you wanted an iPhone, you should buy an iPhone, not expect a different product to be exactly the same.
This has nothing to do with the X10 though. Is there an "Android" forum on here, not for any particular phone, but for the OS itself?
(Edit: Google Checkout seems pretty "centralized" to me... dunno what you mean about that.)

not a troll at all - just plain unhappy with the quality of the whole package - and I'm sure we all agree there is a long road ahead - I was expecting much more from my cellphone.
Yeah - I believe in complaining - I want more and better and I expect much more from Google.

Wow slow down man, a long road for iOS yes, Android is far far far better then iOS. My wife owns an iphone 4 and every time i pick it up to play with it i just feel sorry for it (swipe left, swipe right ) beleive me man Android is for MEN real MEN iphone is for people that have no computer orientation whatsoever it just works and thats it. For me i really cant beleive how much behind iOS is, you cant do anything on it! I dont know wich world you live in but please explain how is android behind? explain man.. Seriously i dont mean to be rude or anything but sometimes when i hear something like that i want to smack myself in the head because i cant beleive there is people stupid enough to claim that kind of thing... iOS is like you bought a house that you cant furnish the way you want, you cant decorate it the way you want, you cant repaint it, you cant do **** with it except open the fridge and eat whatever is in it weather you like it or not, or you want a softer bed but you cant change it, you want a different couch? guess what you cant change it....anything you want to change or have your way you cant! you can only use it however you bought it .... i hope you get the point. Android keeps amazing me everyday more and more of how you can change anything you want! And modify your phone in so many ways, i have a different look every week . its just ridiculous the amount if customization you can do. Seriously and to have all that with an good looking phone with great hardware, fast and reliable is just plain amazing. So whats up with that "quality of the whole package" what do you mean? i think you are really confused , are you?Cause i am. So please explain yourself..

Honestly, I do not think Apple is better than Android. They're simply too different ios. Theirs things that Apples os does better and theirs things that Android ios does better. Think about it. You probably say you prefer Apple over Android because you don't have froyo 2.2 on your phone yet. Android is amazing in my opinion. Full web content via adobe flash 10.1 (iphone cannot do every website in flash), you can not change the ui like Android, free turn by turn voice navigation, the ability to do something as simple as make phone calls and not have them drop because you do not have a case on your phone. Not one android phone needs a case to make a phone call. Apple is just now offering multitask, Android has been doing this since day one! One of the reasons why most people think iphone is the best is because of Apples marketing. Apple is smart when it comes to marketing. They only sold 3 different models (correct me if I'm wrong). 3g, 3gs and 4g and they all look similar so almost all accessories can be used through them all, they have millions of accessories. They have "i"everything. idock, ialarm, i etc. They are very smart! iphone isn't a bad phone but I do not think Android sucks compared to Apple like you make it sound. If you like iphone so bad then sell your phone or trade it for an iphone. Thanks for letting me vent.

I lol'd to this

To the OP. You are honestly the first person ive ever heard say this. Most people are blown away by Android, especially considering how new it is. Most will agree it is more robust and more powerful and has much much more potential than iOS.

lol indeed

OP When you buy a phone, smart or otherwise, you should have a look at the operating as the OS and it app support and layout are the selling points to any phone. you should have enquired into how apps are paid for before you paid the money for the phone.
If YOU forgot to check if the things that were important to YOU ar present in OS then its really your fault not googles

[app][Dec 5] Google Maps Mobile 3.3.1, now with star sync.

An interesting development, this version of GMM has a new feature that its Android counterpart does not yet have and that is the ability to synchronize anything you star on maps.google.com on a computer logged in with your google account with your phone (also logged in) and vice versa (see picture).
Pretty cool if you're a big google mapping dude but this one has a bug. If you attempt to start Layers from the menu and it crashes, you have to start GMM again and go into Menu > Help > Options > Reset Google Maps. This will wipe the cache from your previous version but until they release a fixed version which they'll probably do pretty soon i'm guessing then you have to do this. To my knowledge there are no other new features since 3.2.1, at least none that are apparent enough for me to notice on my own and their release notes aren't so thorough. Anyway here's the cab.
EDIT: They fixed the bug and released a new version, 3.3.1. No other changes to my knowledge.

If you were the king of Google, wouldn't you try to make some kind of point by doing this in order to fire up a bigger consumer frenzy to get 250,000 Droids sold in its opening week and over a million by the end of the year? And then a little later after the initial jolt to let it out to all Android 1.6 phones to bolster your overall mobile market share? Maybe overtake Apple in three years? They already crushed MS very decisively.
Once things cool down and level off maybe there will be more incentive to get GMM on as many phones as possible with all its features regardless of the OS than there are incentives not to but I'd bet green money that won't happen this year.
Face it, we're on our way to extinction.
My Maps was actually a part of the 'Layers' functionality quietly released in version 3.2.0.
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=156059
I showed it to my iPhone-toting software engineer brother-in-law several months ago and he was quite amazed and disappointed at the same time. Disappointed because he said that GMM is part of the OS and he can't get version updates like us WinMo users until Apple adds it to the OS update via iTunes.
I enjoy showing iPhone users these things - they show me their fart apps and slowly walk aimlessly away trying to find a better signal.
Although if it weren't for the iPhone, I'm sure WinMo touch screen phones wouldn't be near as good as they are.

At work, most of the iPhone users look incomprehendingly at the features on my TP2 -- network sharing? Wireless tethering? Native widescreen? Huh? Then they show me GoogleMaps and Facebook, thinking they're somehow iPhone exclusives.
There is this one user who burns with jealousy with every feature I show him -- the latest is voice command. He didn't upgrade to the 3G version yet, and at this rate, he probably won't. Too bad he's stuck with AT&T for now.
I agree with your second point, but I fear the pendulum is swinging too far the other way. Making everything big, chunky, and finger friendly as well as wasting system resources prettying up the interface are overreactions to non-problems -- I don't see why bloggers have such seething hate towards the stylus. As far as I'm concerned, the iPhone stole my DPad.
bump
New version released, 3.3.1, fixes the crashing when opening layers.
Why does it say im in Detroit if i dont use the GPS?
@Hanson68: I agree with you on the D-pad. When I left my HTC Tytn to go to the TP2, I saw a bunch of posts saying how you quickly get used to not having a D-pad, but I still miss mine. Not only is it quicker to navigate in some scenarios, but it allows navigation without covering up a large part of the screen with a sausage-like finger when you are trying to see what is happening on-screen.
So guys, do you think navigation like on Android will be in this next release? the starred feature was a great addition, something I was longing for badly!

Berardi: Give me some kind of evidence that you have a paypal account (preferably a Google Checkout account actually) and I will bet you twenty to your ten dollars that the next build of GMM for Windows Mobile Google releases will not have Google Maps Navigation. Alternatively I'll bet seventeen to your ten it won't be in there by the end of this year. Six months from now, almost even money.
Doug
mine shows me that I'm in the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan... when I'm actually in Pittsburgh. WTF? I'm on T-Mo US with 3G.
yeah you /wish/ you were in Manhattan.
I think that Google may have had to start collecting towers and their IDs and long/latitude information from each carrier one by one, apparently starting with at&t. Not easy to collect this data (it's a lot of data that may not have been properly cataloged from the start) and sort everything out quickly but, unless this is a glitch specific to this 3.3 version of gmm for you -- actually no, regardless of why, since you're not the only t-mo user in your area with the latest gmm release using the locate thing, I'd say expect this to be fixed maybe within days.

Last night, I noticed that instead of the usual blue dot with a small arrow in the direction of travel, the whole icon changed to a larger blue arrow. Anyone else noticed this, which I'm assuming is new to v3.3?
Found an article at the::unwired which mentions this also was part of the v3.3 release for Android ("turn the blue My Location dot into a compass arrow") as well as a couple of nice features I've been wanting for a long time now ("displaying a scale bar on the map, show a terrain layer").
Doubt there's much chance of getting Navigation on the WM version if we still don't even have these other features... I mean, c'mon, what good is a map without a scale?!
EDIT: Also found the "What's here?" feature you get by doing a long-press on the map and tapping on the bubble to see what businesses are nearby. Don't recall this in v3.2, but maybe just overlooked it...

Possible WM 6.5.x port?

I would love to see WM ported to this device, it would be the next best thing to the HD2 if someone could.
Not really, this device is better than the hd2 because the hd2 is running windows. Android blows winmo out of the water imo, and I was a hardcore winmo fanboy until recently.

yea i swore by winmo until i got this, because essentially winmo had the same basics. multi-tasking, sandboxed apps, open development. its just that the engine for winmo was 8 years old, and it was not slick anymore.
as far as 720p video goes, who shoots 720p video with their phone and then broadcasts it to the world as HD, seriously who does that. i saw the video quality and its very decent.
video calling- yeah they could have done that.. but no, im not willing to sacrifice open development for video calling. if you absolutely must have it, get the sprint evo. thats like a million times better than i****.
This is so funny, 99% of people are switching to android running away from MS like the house is on fire, but someone actually wants MS ported to an andriod device. I guess the grass is always greener

Very true... I switched from the TP2 to the Inc and really expected not to like the Android. Within a half hour, I was hooked and wondered why Windows Mobile is at least 10 years behind in technology.... This is my opinion of course but no matter how good WM7 is, I simply can not imagine going back.
Yep I just left the TP2 and was only worried about the lack of hard keybd but 3 days later, who cares about keyboard....DI works when WM would freeze or crash.
I still have a lot of apps that aren't available for android yet. Would be nice to have the added features like the hardware compass and more ram and the added speed.
I'm not saying that android is a bad platform, which it isn't and I know its advancement is moving along at full steam.
I just have a lot of stuff that I use for WM and isn't available for anything else yet except some of it is available for Crapple's IPhone and would like to keep it for now.
GPS Meter, GCzII, VidaOne Personal Diet and Fitness, Identadrug, Davis Drug Guide, Hamachi2, WMWifiRouter, WifiMonster, GPSWeatherRadar, Bing, and TrackMe.
Would be nice to see an WM Energy ROM for this thing.
Also, is there anything available yet that will auto install software and customize your device with your user information and settings yet for android like XDA_UC does?
like XDA_UC? No, not that I know of as of yet but I'm new to Android(just got rid of my TP2 recently). However, if you set up a gmail account now on your TP2 and know how to setup ActiveSync(instructions are on Gmail's website) all of your calendar & contacts auto-sync to the Incredible when you set it up. All of your apps stay with your gmail account on the marketplace so anything like XDA_UC on Android is relatively useless other than automatically setting up user settings. However, if Android is set-up like a Linux computer, you can simply update the OS version without losing your settings anyways... Trust me, I was in your shoes... It's easy to keep saying Windows is nice but aren't you sick of your phone freezing all the time?

I haven't been having any problems with my phone freezing up since I unlocked my phone and got away from that pitiful stock rom and upgraded to a 6.5.3 rom, except when it gets really hot from being on in direct sunlight in my truck or something.
I'm not saying that android is bad, just saying it doesn't do what I want it to do at the moment.
lol. I wiped WinMo from my HTC Vogue in favor of Android cause even 6.5.3 is junk. Can't believe someone wants to regress on purpose. Microsoft's answer to finger friendly was to just make certain buttons bigger and make the X really big and ugly.
No way any dev is wasting their going backwards. This wouldn't be like a dev running Windows 3.1 on a Nokia or Apple device to show of their skills. It'd be like swapping a Mustang's engine with an Escort's.
Sorry if I sound rude...I don't mean to. It just sounds crazy to me.

I agree with the above post. I owned every WM phone under the sun until the G1 came out. Since then I haven't looked back. I had the G1, mt3g, then switched to verizon for the Eris and now the Incredible. They all outperform any windows device I ever owned. I can't think of one thing on windows that I miss really. Use the incredible for about a week and you'll be hooked. There are plenty of apps in the market I'm sure you can find apps to do what you need.

I know all of the versions of WM have a list of problems that have plagued users since long before I ever used my first WM device "HTC Apache" and I think its besides the point of this thread.
Why has android been ported to other devices "such as the before mentioned HTC Vogue" and all of the other devices that it has showed up on?
One word....... Choice.
People want the ability to choose what they do with their devices, run what they want to run on it and do what they want with it. If they didn't want that choice then everyone would have a Blackberry.
I'm not saying that WM is any better or worse than Android, Personally I use both "Via XDANDROID" on my Touch Pro 2 and I like android, but I still use WM because I have a lot of apps that I rely on that aren't available on android, so I want to have the choice to run WM or Android on it and I think there may be a few others that haven't switched away from WM completely yet because it has something that they use.
you have not experienced Android to it's potential if you are basing your opinion on running 'XDANDROID's' current work in progress... That was running Android off of an SD card and was STILL faster than WM. However, alot of things didn't work properly so your view is skewed. You mentioned people wanted 'variety' so they through Android on their phones.... Not exactly. Android is simply faster and manages memory better hence why people try to port it to WM to speed up their phones. If your only reason for not wanting to switch is because of a few apps, I'm sure you can find the apps on Android. The fact that you are really trying to make the point that you want to stick with WM bc of a few apps boggles my mind... Have you even looked in Android marketplace???

I agree....If you search a little bit you'll find apps that will replace the ones you're missing from WM. I thought the same thing when I switched but I've found everything I needed and more.
Identadrug
I purchased this with a yearly subscription and I use it almost daily for work.
http://www.identadrug.com/%28S%28p21lfx45orka2x55gbhbvtad%29%29/pda.aspx?s=ID&cs=
Nothing mentioned about android...
Looked at Davis Drug Guide, and it now has Android.
GCzII Geocaching app, nothing available in android marketplace even comes close to comparing to it at the moment.
http://www.vidaone.com/ Diet and fitness software that i bought and use daily has no current support for Android.
Hamachi 2 Client I use it daily for accessing our reports system at work and my network at home.
WMWifiRouter No current android support "however Chainfire has mentioned that they are developing a version for android" and PDANet just doesn't compare doesn't support wifi and is much slower when using bluetooth and doesn't have the range as wifi. "My g/f and I often take our laptops and I leave my phone plugged up charging while in the cradle in my truck and leave wifirouter running and we both can surf with reasonable speed at the same time on each of our laptops.
TrackMe I see a couple of TrackMe apps on Android, but are any of them based off of this one that have a web gui and allow me to use my existing self-hosted server? Using my existing server setup isn't a requirement but it would help, but hosting my own server and having offline storage of data to sync later is a requirement. (more information requested on this one)
GPSWeatherRadar Currently WM only, and I haven't found anything that is like this on android.
Bing: Seems that there is a version out there for android now, I use it mostly for business listings and movie times etc...
I rarely use it for navigation.
I have listed above the programs that I currently use the most and either can't or don't want to do without.
When an android version comes out of this software or something else that can replace it with the same features "then I will seriously consider switching.
I just really want a better device to run what I have on "since we are locked in with the limited selection of devices that our carriers offer us", at least until more companies adapt their software for android.

Very similar profile to our Inc's. Keep in mind that every single app you listed has been replicated in some way or form on android. Do some research, youll be pleasently suprised at androids capabilities.

Imagio vs Rhodium_W......... Any real difference except for one being a slider and the other having a FM radio and a better camera? I was looking for something faster, has more ram, and a hardware compass. Since it doesn't look like VZW will get a CDMA HD2, I figured this had the most potential out of the current selection of offered devices.
I'm very content with what Android is capable of, it is afterall linux. Its the software selection that still needs a little work.
I've looked up Geobeagle. haven't tried it out yet though. Just heard that Tom from GCzII has been showing more interest in Android, perhaps he'll make a version for it.
Can you show me compariable versions of software for the other listed items?

I agree with LegionTHEFecalExcretion....
Sounds like you want us to convince you that you made the right decision. I too came from WM and after a couple days of searching around I found all the apps I needed. To say that the software selection needs work is a little crazy if you ask me.

Bye Bye Vibrant =(

So today I returned my Vibrant and removed my Nexus One from Ebay. It's sad that such a beautiful phone had to be returned but I couldn't cope with some major issues:
1) GPS (I dont care if there is a fix, it SHOULD work out of the box)
2) Laggy Market
3) Laggy Homescreen
4) Tethering issues (Using barnacle and IPad)
I will miss the screen... it was amazing... along with some of the features of touchwiz. However, the fact that TMobile confirmed that they will be launching an HSPA+ phone this summer makes me feel that much better about waiting to upgrade.
Let me get out my violin.

Feel better? Goodness it's like at least 5 people have to start this type of thread on every board I visit for any type of device. I can't wait for the usual people to come in and make this a 10 page thread
And when the TMO releases the new HSPA+ phone it will have a plethora of issues on its own, good luck
Just trying to save people the trouble from upgrading from their Nexus if they have one. Thanks for the violin though! ;p
I really don't set the point of these types of posts, so you are unhappy and experience issues that not everyone is. Does that mean I should annoyingly post about how great mine is working? My HD2 gave me problems everyday but I didn't post about it. My slide worked perfectly but I didn't post about it. Again gps is not everyone, I have tried the following apps:
Yelp
Yellow book
Find me
Places directory
Maps
Where
Layers
And google
ALL were able to find my location (locked)
Everything else hasn't happened to my phone yet
So really what is the point in posting that you are returning the phone, because I'm sure you have already posted the problems.

Oh man you should have seen the Evo 4G forums then. This is nothing compared to that.
If i'd've had a N1, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a Vibrant now. N1 to Vibrant is probably not that big an improvement, but G1 (even rooted) to Vibrant is HUGE!
Sorry you didn't like your Vibrant!
I personally have had none of those issues, in fact, I have had not one force close or restart, the phone has been on and running without a single hitch since the day it was released and I picked it up at the T-mobile store.
This has been the best out of box experience I have ever had with a phone, especially one that was just released.

I agree on both accounts. When we get 2.2 OTA or mod it will prove to be the best phone available.
Your patience (or lack thereof) got the best of you.phone had only been out a week. Name me one device that was perfect upon release? Take care and cya, I'll enjoy the vibrant for you =)

1. will work after OTA
2. Did you root? Haven't heard of significant issues pre-root
2. thats because it's filled with bulky widgets. Remove a few. I'm running 5 widgets (2 of the samsung ones) and a live wallpaper with no lag (did no lag fixes or anything)
4. Barnacle doesn't work without root. Doesn't work consistently with root because the phone just came out and they haven't added support for it yet. New hardware for a currently unsupported root feature. Hopefully it'll be included in 2.2, but if not, the tether programs should be updated soon.
I think you should have waited before getting the phone in the first place. Nothing come out perfect.
I also purchased the Vibrant to use as a wireless hotspot with my iPad. I am going to give it time. I probably wouldn't have upgraded from an N1 though.
I turned on the phone and I'm not kidding I went straight to ever screen and removed every widget and turned off all but one screen. I mean I really don't need 7 screens when I use the same few apps all the time.
I think the only issue's I've noticed is.
- Camera FC on me once.
- Antenna boucing all over the place signal wise. Full Bars, half bars, no bars. Who knows, but it still works.
I think the only rock solid phone I've ever purchased and it just worked was my old Side Kick. It wasn't fancy or flashy and of course doesn't do half the stuff that these newer phones do.
For me:
Notifications keep phone awake
I get FC when I try to add picture to contact
Slow market (rooted)
Antenna bars jump left and right, but it doesnt seem to effect the signal....
It's a genuine concern. Stop getting so defensive that people are having issues. Not everyone can afford to drop $500+ every two months on the latest and greatest. A new smartphone is an investment, and if it doesn't work as advertised, that's not the fault of the consumer. Also, keep in mind, 14 days is not a lot of time. We don't even know for sure if this is something that Samsung can or will fix.
Some of you are willing to accept that risk, and trust that a fix is coming. That's fine. Some of us are not as bold when it comes to such investments.
So, yes, we may get an announcement, by the 15th day, that everything is going to be fixed and we won't have to worry. But what if that announcement never shows up? What if they just shrug their shoulders and say, "Eh, good enough"?
Well, like I said, $500+ is a lot of money to gamble when it comes to the good faith of a corporation. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous about them supporting this device properly.
I love my Vibrant, save for these reception issues with the various radios. I live in one of the best coverage spots in my city, and I've been having calls go straight to voicemail all week; my GPS takes 5 minutes to even lock, and when it does, the radius is 2-4 blocks wide; the compass does not work at all, and the phone will assume I'm driving and moving when I'm stationary because of these problems. As of today, it does not appear as if either company is acknowledging the issue. That said, if a statement isn't released soon, I'll be returning it to sit on the sidelines until a fix is announced -- as much as I'd miss the display.

It's just getting started. Not only that, when they return the phone it'll continue to pester on. Oh x -- x and x doesn't work, it's this and that.. no, I haven't exchanged it or I've gotten 5 already and it's not going to be fixed because once I do this, that happens.. and on and on and on and on and on and..

Pawned a couple things to buy the Xoom... regret it?/?

so i was finally able to afford the wifi only Xoom, and i knew i wanted it over the ipad. Reason being, I have a HTC Evo and before that i had an HTC Hero.I've rooted them and flashed them with diferent roms, kernels, themes, and all that good stuff that we can do on our "open source" OS that IOS cannot. butttttttttttttt........
after playing with the Xoom for the past 2 days i kind of do not feel satisfied. Main reason for this is the apps.... i love using apps... Android seems to have less than 100 tablet optimized apps and that really sucks for me. its been a month and a half since the release of the xoom.
things making me want to keep it:
-sd card
-very customizible (if thats a word)
-i tethered to evo and it was blazing fast on 3g
-not wanting to be like everyone else that gets an ipad
-eventually i guess.. more free apps
-camera has led flash
-youtube app
etc...
and just because its freekin Android... (gotta love it)
things making me want to get an ipad2:
-currently has more apps
-even though it has lower resolution screen looks better
-faster response when flickin
advice??
ps.
how much longer till we get about 1000 apps?
Serious advice: sell/return it and get the iPad.
Reason for advice: Nevermind that you can use loads of current mobile apps on the Xoom, if what you're looking for is a buttload of tablet apps then an Android tablet is not for you... yet.
the apps will eventually find their way on the xoom and other android tablets. Remember when you first got your Hero how many apps there were? OK there were more than 100 but the number of apps has grown exponentially over the past 2 years as more and more people acquired android smartphones. The same will go for the tablet - and as more and more ppl acquire android tablets the bigger the market for developers and the more apps we will find. Developers will need the honeycomb sdk to optimise their apps for the platform and whenever it gets out to them we will see the number of apps grow exponentially too. It may take another 6 months or so for our favourite android apps to become tablet-optimised.... And what matters to me is not the number of apps but their quality: I don't need 100 fart apps on my tablet and if you look at your smartphone you'd realise you only use a small number of apps (up to 30 maybe?). It is those apps that have to find their way on the tablet platform, I don't care much about the other ones I'll never use. Whenever they do, you'll be far more satisfied with your device. In the end it's all down to us and our commitment to the platform. if there's no market for developers there won't be any quality apps for us to play with.
Or just do what I did and buy a xoom and an iPad 2...
haha
I know I was annoyed that a lot of the non-tablet optimized apps appeared shrunk on the Xoom screen (with the fixed dimensions of a phone); but after downloading Spare Parts and disabling compatibility mode having the apps fill out the entire screen makes these apps look less awkward.
Get the ipad. Android isn't about the apps. Its good because apps aren't needed to make the device functional. Its good because it has a full browser and file system and its good to tinker with. If you simply want apps apps apps then it isn't the platform for you
Wow... i dont want and ipad...but thanks for the encouragement. Lol
Thanks Sejanus for informing me about spare parts... instead of telling me to go buy an Ipad u actually made me love my Xoom even more..
Advantages of having a Xoom are more and better than having an ipad. Like i pointed out in the first post.

Hmmm, you also pointed out in the first post that you were not satisfied with the Xoom because of a lack of apps and that one of the reasons you would like to get an iPad was because it had more apps. I'm not seeing your logic in your second post.
I don't have an agenda with a specific OS, people should get what they like.
Anyway, it's good that you're not going down the route of evil
Here's what android 3.0 aka honeycomb will look like soon

But seriously, I think if you need mega apps right now and you can't wait a few more months for Honeycomb apps to appear return the Xoom and get a ipad 2(or even an ipad if you want to go cheaper route), but if you want more then just apps Xoom is what you should keep. Also remember google apps(ex. maps, navigation, etc) will always be perfected on Android before iOS stuff.
I pawned one of my nuts ... hell, God gave me two!
Can I point out that I'm a developer on the android platform and I'm currently working on a Honeycomb app at home, and once we cover the beaurocracy, our company will be releasing honeycomb / tablet optimised apps too.
Also, these apps can and have at times taken 2+ months to build from the ground up.
Honeycomb is a huge difference from previous versions in terms of the application design and workflow.
You need patience for these things. If you want something quick that's optimised specially I'm sure I can throw a couple of apps together, iamrich or a nice multicolour screen torch, or something in 5 minutes...

Gripes... ICS more like iOS?

Ok so I just switched from CM7 on wonderful Gingerbread, to this ICS gabbage since CM7 isn't supported anymore by atinm I figure I would switch....
Well what the freak... i'm just gonna make a small list and correct me if i'm wrong on any of this...
First off, why is it anytime I download anything from the market I automatically get a shortcut on my home screen. I'm sorry I have an app drawer, if I was dumb enough to want my screen to always look cluttered I would have bought an IPhone to begin with.
Second, whats with the widgets now... They are joking right? What was wrong with holding down the home screen... It was more simple... Now I go into my apps and see there is a danged column for widgets. Stupid or what?
Third is messaging... At least in gingerbread I could change the background between black and white. Now it's blistering killer white.. Who said everyone likes white!?!?! Must be an apple thing.
Fourth.. I cannot, cannot cannot seem to get rid of the Google Search bar at the top of my main page. WTF I don't want want you there, go away!!!
To me it seems like ICS is trying to be something like Apple... Why I don't know, and I don't like it... but at least the GPS locks in a second or two everytime...
sir, i will say this once. and once only.
use the search button.
1st off, there's a option in the market to stop the shortcuts from happening.
second, just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean others don't either. I LOVE it. and i'm sure theres more that like it than there is that don't.
thirdly, You're on android go find yourself another messaging app if you don't like the default.
fourth, Not sure if it still works but settings>apps>google search> disable should do it.
1. There's an option in the android market for the new apps installed not to go to your home screen.
2. The only way to solve this is to use a 3rd party launcher.
3. I really don't know what to tell you here... Try another messaging app?
4. In the preferences, there's an option so the Google search will not be on your home screen.
Well jwleonhart,
It's more of your poor piss attitude, calling ICS garbage and other stuff like that.
But seriously, if you searched any ICS topic, you would have found that messaging app, you would have found out how to disable the google search bar, and you would have found out about another ICS launcher named Nova that has the hold for widgets feature.

So to snowball off of this point of yours, who said everyone likes inverted?? ignorant.
OS features/framework are calculated, and at least attempted to be based on majority appeal. why the hell would they release something that nobody likes? the reality is, they cant make everybody happy, all they can do is try to make as many people happy as possible.
Google didn't become a powerhouse by accident.
your OP sucks, it can pretty much be simplified down to "wahh wahhwahh wahhhh...fix everything for me and tailor everything to my liking!". YOUR type of attitude is the type that has trashed the Vibrant forum, and is precisely why devs HATE us. Youre the type who jumps into a ROM thread and says something like "can you please make the notification text yellow, it would go better with my theme. also, my phone is laggy, can you please fix this?"
if you dont like something, dont use it. i flashed ICS this morning, gave it a fair shot, its not up to my personal standards so i reverted. wow, that was hard.

All your inquiries have been answered there OP with the acception of the mms apk, unless I missed that response.. And if you go dig around the nexus s forums, you will find an inverted mms apk for ICS that works beautifully.
Also, if you bothered to read the ICS threads, its mentioned more than once.

For a few things I did search for the shortcut to the market and didn't find anything until the answer here.
Second, i'm simply asking a question and seeing how other people feel on that subject also. I've seen Nova and I just am at a loss personally and from what a few others have said, why the widgets would be squashed in with the apps, this isn't really a tablet..
I was A) looking for answers to my questions, and B)looking to see how others felt.
I didn't come on here to go "Whaa whaa" either, i'm simply stating things I see..
Who said everyone wants a black MMS? Nobody said that... but who said everyone wants white!?!? At least with Gingerbread there was the OPTION to change it, why not KEEP that option instead of DO AWAY WITH IT? I do kinda have a point there right? They deleted a feature instead of adding one in that sense.
If this whole thread is gonna turn into an arguement it may be better that this thread just be closed... Children run around on this forum all too much. Everyone has to open their mouths and turn a topix into an arguement.
And I said our AMOLED screen is outdated and old compared to newer phones. It is, it's old... face a fact.
