Depends on you define 'top dog'.
I feel it necessary to remind everyone that these same bandwidth speeds were seen with Wimax on Sprint with people's Evos as soon as it was released.
But we can't use facts and past knowledge in this forum.
I like Sprint....their 4G network is a crock. T-Mobile is faster most the time on 3G.
As much as I'm sold on Evo 3D....amazingly (to me) its balanced pretty evenly against this patchy unreliable network. (And I'd pay more in a heartbeat for the best combination of network and Device). Right now Sprint's been resting on their original 4G hype/bust...and there far back in the race.
Here's hoping they knew that ages ago and are ready for significant upgrades.

Sprint's been stepping up there game no doubt...but have to address this....cause this crys gonna get loud. The strength of their upcoming devices will probably barely overshadow it for the Evo crowd tho.

The title of this thread says it all!
Verizon's 3g is faster than Sprint 4g WiMax. Therefore;
Verizon's 4g LTE is much faster than Sprints 4g WiMax.
The Thunderbolt is dominating the Evo, I've seen a screenshot of a 1.8 ghz oc of the Thunderbolt scoring 3k on quadrant.
Yes, the Evo 3D is the best phone on the face of the Earth hardware-wise so far, but once Verizon gets enough people on they're LTE they're gonna be releasing they're own HTC Pyramid. Besides, personal experience, I'm not happy with my Sprint Service. At all.

Some would say avg d/l speed of less than 200kbps with no end in sight is worse than throttling. At least with throttling you know what is going on. Ads by CEO's which ignore the fact that Sprints average 3G data speed is less than the competition's throttled speed, are not looking at the big picture. Here in SW Florida the 3G is unusable... I just leave wifi on all the time now at both work and at home. As far as the road goes - well it still is a phone, and works fine as that.

I was at a sprint store this weekend and one of the reps. there told that sprint might get the iPhone at thebend of the year. Can anyone confirm this?
There is no official confirmation but it is a rumor that Apple is going to release an iPhone 4S at the end of August that will also be on Sprint and T-Mobile. We will see.
I personally don't think Sprint's network could handle it.
That's the rumor. It's not confirmed by any stretch of the imagination, but from Apple's standpoint, it makes a lot of sense. Apple is getting beat in the US by Android, and wants some of those Android sales. Plus, it looks like the next iPhone will have both radios (gsm/cdma), so it can release one phone for all networks. Now, whether you could unlock the phone to go from Sprint to AT&T, or Verizon will remain to be seen...assuming the rumors of a Sprint and T-Mobile iPhone are true...
God, I hope not. Sprint's 3G data is slow enough as it is, I can only imagine how an iPhone would perform on it. So unless they're planning on ramping up their 4G game or signing some major roaming agreements nationwide, might as well stick w/ an open-source Android!
Besides an android is so much more better than an iPhone. Why would you want that garbage?

I bet part of this was to stay competitive in the future iPhone market. I know there's only slight hints for an iPhone on Sprint, but I can feel it coming. The iPhone 5 will probably "only" be HSPA+ ready, but next year I'm sure it will be LTE ready. I very much doubt that Apple would build a WiMax version of the iPhone for only Sprint, and with Sprint's future looking bleak, they need every competitive advantage they can get.

But think about this. They are not going to be sinking any more money into Wimax now to expand it. And they are starting from scratch for LTE. By the time they even have enough LTE as they do Wimax (which still is not a lot) everyone else is going to be done building their LTE network. So basically Sprint is not going to have a good 4G network now for at least 4-5 years. So everyone get used to your slow data speeds. We are gonna have em for a while. Yay, way to go Sprint.

Apple Exec's and Sprint Exec's do not like each other at all. Apple thinks Sprint is a 2nd rate wireless company going down the tubes. Sprint would not be willing to pay their royalty clauses that Apple wants. You like Iphone 4 or 5 you need to go to Verizon or At&T. Samsung & HTC phones have gotten so much better. It is real competition now to Apple. Until the relationship is repaired you will never see an Iphone on Sprint.

There's a newer article out. Reporting it is indeed finished and should be announced today. I'll find the link. But apologies if this doesn't belong I see much more "off topic threads" here Luke I want a GS3 blah blah figure this is somewhat on topic. As the OG EVO WAS a Sprint exclusive and so at one point every EVO was configured or running on Sprint. While I'm sure many of them (me for one) are still on Sprint and this could have a large impact on people. Again if I violated anything a MOD can surely close this or move it to where it belongs.

I also find it somewhat sad that one company that has some sizeable debt, has just purchased a controlling share in another company with even greater debt, and I believe must of had to make this deal on credit.... Wish I could do that ****, dem bastards... :banghead:

Yea I'm leaning the same way after more looking into. Hopefully this can be the influx of cash Sprint needs to.build the new networks faster and start drawing more customers. I just hope they keep the simply everything plans. I think that's a big plus for them. If they can't use this to get going again then nothing will.

This^ Unlimited everything (besides land line calls) is amazing. Not to mention their plans are cheaper. The only thing left, IMO, to get more people to move over is to get more 4g coverage. I know they are expanding more...and I just heard I'm getting 4g by me which I didn't think would come for a few more years so that's a plus for me
As long as this buy out doesn't run Sprint into the ground, then it should be a good thing.

Agreed most people agree the up front cash will allow them to build out the LTE network faster. Which is good. Hopefully the broader the 4G range 3g speeds will improve as well since less traffic.

Not 'finished'....
BTW, this is LONG from 'finished', this is just the announcement of the agreement... there's still a LONG due diligence period that is only now starting along with required regulatory reviews. I doubt this will be 'finished' until 2nd quarter 2013, if not later.

You get what you pay for. Sprint's 4G is lacking and so is their 3G speeds. Getting consistent performance is out of question. Yeah the data is unlimited but that's it. Verizon has family share plans for $40/phone and shared data starting at $50/month. You could spend anywhere from $15-35 a month depending upon your data usage but Verizon at least in Los Angeles is worth every penny. Sprint will be nowhere near that kind of coverage for the next couple of years and I am tired of signing contracts based on promises of better data.

Yeah what-ever, I'm pulling on average 17-20MB/sec down on 4G and no less than 1.5 on 3G. Verizon locks down bootloaders worse than Sprint has ever contemplated, and just wait till you go a few gigs over your "allowance" and get hit with the 2-3 hundred dollar overage. Everyone I know on Verizon complains, but to each his own.

I read on Engadget today that Sprint bought like 50.8% of Clearwire. I wonder if our how that affects this deal
I hope that by buying half of clearwire, it improves 3g speeds.

Whatever works for you man. I guess Sprint has Independence covered like a blanket I guess. BTW, each phone on the shared plan with Verizon gives you a good idea where you stand on data. If you feel you're about to go over, you can go to the next level.
I've been with Sprint for a long time and really wish the 4G coverage was better but when you lose to metropcs in a major market then that is a problem.

I'm pretty sure Softbank wanted Sprint to be in control of clearwire as per the agreement. But like it was mentioned the Grand ole Government still has to give the ok for this so it'll be at least 6+ months.
I also have to side with Jamie here I had Verizon for a while (pre-smartphone days) and their service was great but lately as a huge Root fan I'd never go back. They are locking down the bootloaders on so many of the best devices like he SG3 and another one I'm forgetting but they have plans to lockdown more in the future. And while Sprint isn't the biggest Root supporter they at least leave that door unlocked. nd once they get the LTE network built out speeds WILL improve, we already have it here in Baltimore and my buddies Gnex is pulling a consistent 20-25mb/sec which for us Sprint users is Freaking a god send lol. Combine that will never having to worry about Data which I use about 5-7 gb/month I'm sticking right there with them. Until they are a huge success or die off lol

Cool story! I dropped sprint strictly because coverage in my area was very spotty. I have no regrets about it and if they fixed the network I'd go back in a heart beat...I just got tired of hearing about how my market was always next in line...blah blah blah. I also have no issue with verizon. The phone I picked was easily unlocked... that is more research based..all carriers should have a Google phone that can be unlocked. Data is not an issue...WiFi is every where anyways...even at the gym. I pay just as much now as I did with sprint... but dont drop calls...and since I am military and have a wife at home with my kids...an on demand call is a must. I also know Verizon has the better freq. Band... sure in the higher MHz you will get faster speeds..but the coverage area isn't as big...its all give and take. I am rooting for sprint...but just got tired of waiting....I love capitalism and choice...so I switched to who I feel deserved my money!

All very good reasons to switch. Yea I'd rank Verizon over ATT&t but the those locked bootloaders. I havent checking in a while but the locked sgs3 was a huge ordeal being locked. That kinda thing makes me mad. It's OUR Devices not the carriers and if I want to root then I have that right.
