Hey,
Just wanted to share that after 11 months of frustration with my Eris and 3 replacements, Verizon offered to overnight an Incredible to me!
Been writing articles on my blog http://www.jonsuh.com for Eris users, and it looks like I'll be writing articles to help Incredible users now
I'll be seein you in all more often in a couple of days!
Used your site to Root and flash my wife's Eris which basically gave her a new phone. I have a DINC and look forward to seeing what you have to say about it. This is the best phone I've ever owned. I recently Rooted and flashed Sky-Raider Vanilla on my DINC, very stable so far and everything seems to work.
After much frustration with the Eris, I too have switched to the Incredible. I picked up one off of CL that was virtually brand new. I had pretty much gone through the same things you did with the Eris and was running KaosFroyo, a huge improvement from when I first got my Eris running 1.5 on 1/2/2010. But WOW, I can't believe what I've been missing. I immediately rooted the Incredible and am currently running Virtuous for my first INC ROM. Unbelievable how fast it seems, especially anything involving network access, it's sooooo much faster. Looking forward to using the Inc more!!!

I'm very excited about the Incredible. I had used a coworker's the other day and the response was remarkable, considering even running KaosFroyo how sluggish the Eris can be.
I should be getting it tonight so I'll be sure to root it and flash it ASAP. Will report back
Charging my Incredible as we speak!
i recently just did a trade with someone, my droid1 for an dinc..im really excited..it is coming in on tuesday, cant wait to load up the desire hd rom..so pumped for the flip clock haha
Well, after getting my Incredible and powering it up, I forgot how much I really missed Sense! Being able to use the widgets and apps that I used to depend on so much months ago felt really good. Running Sense without it lagging like crazy like my Eris did was great.
I was successfully able to root, and perform S-OFF and full nand. Being on a Mac, Unrevoked's method was a piece of cake.
For the sake of trying and without going "fancy," per say, I flashed the latest version of Cyanogenmod, only to immediately want to go back to Sense, haha. Although I love LauncherPro and the options CyanogenMod opens up, the inability to use the Sense widgets sucks.
Therefore, currently downloading the Virtuous ROM. If unsatisfied for any reason, I may just end up restoring stock Sense and keep root.
If I have one gripe, it's the lack of trackball notifications. I really did like it on my Eris, but oh well. I'm willing to deal with it
All in all, very satisifed with the Incredible. May end up using my upgrade at the end of the year with one of the holiday Droids and sell my DINC but before Verizon kicks in the tiered data plans so I can grandfather it in for a year or two, but we'll see!
Glad to be a DINC owner.
I'm glad you are all enjoying your Incredibles.

Glad you are enjoying your new toy. If you like sense, then you should like Virtuous ROM. It is completely stock. It is just optimized. See you around the forum.
What a joke Samsung and AT&T are so I walked over to VZW and snagged a Droid X. With the Captivate, I was on [ROM] Axura 2.1 (Froyo) with Setirons 1.4.3 Kernel and loved it, but what is the tits rom for the Droid X?
Everyone has their own opinion, but the popular ROMs seem to be: gummyJAR, ApeX, Tranquility, RubiX, and Fission. Check out the Development Forum to see what all is being worked on.
I personally like ApeX, but I am considering trying gummyJAR after hearing so many good things.

Battery = Better So Far
Screen = Larger, not AMOLED, but very nice w/ Gorilla Glass!
GPS = DEAD ON ACCURATE today on the way home!
Speed = Stock X is comparable to my Cappy on a FAST ROM.
Overall = I am MUCH happier with the Droid X...............MUCH!
I'm using DarkSlide personally, and I am quite happy with it. The latest versions are based on the new 340 OTA, so make sure you are on that before removing any bloat or installing a custom ROM, as VZW checks for certain bloat before offering the OTA.
Motorola has an encrypted bootloader on the DX, so there are no custom kernels available yet. But as you already noticed, the X is faster while stock than some phones tweaked to the max.

I love my droid x way more than any of the other 4 smart phones that I've owned. However, if I were you (or your dad), I would wait a minute because, as you may already know, some really sweet LTE phones are due to be released in the near future (perhaps february if the various tech blogs are accurate). For example, the htc thunderbolt looks sick. It looks like a couple are going to be officially announced at CES next week
to late lol we got the droid
I got my DX for $49 at wirefly.com ..best customer service too ..I had got the D2G originally but it got too hot at times..so I mention it on their facebook and was surprise to get a call from "corporate" the next day offering a exchange for the DX and credit for the difference.
Cons: well it's not really one. You have keep the phone for at 6 months without downgrading or lower the cost of the plan. Also you can't move to another device until after 6mths ..worth it IMO.
and if you use my link we both get credit for $25.
EDIT: looks like they have the DX for $19 with free activation...im jealous.
Did the same move (captivate to Droid X). My only and I mean only grip with the Droid X is the fact it can't play MKV. files. The Captivate played that with the stock player, no issues. I've bought just about every player on the market and it still doesnt' play those files.

I can play MKV files on the latest RockPlayer. But they get choppy if they are too large.
I was offered a droid x as a trade for my fascinate. I was wondering the pros and cons of switching to this over my fascinate.

Major con, locked bootloader, major pro, froyo. And gingerbread just around he corner, i had a fascinate since launch day, and i finally gave up on that POS
EDIT:IT ACTUALLY A GREAT PHONE, the problem is verizon and samsung didnt name it droid so they dont give a ****

Poor support is what has me thinking about changing.

Coincidence, I just came from a Fascinate. Too soon to tell which one is better, I'll let you know pretty soon.
Also, if you're thinking about flashing a custom rom, I would stay with the Fascinate. I feel that they have better development and more support for their ROMs.
Stay away from the Droid x. You cannot flash anything important due to the locked bootloader

where are you finding this fascinate stuff I can't really find to much for it on the dedicated fascinate sections. The droid x has a long list of rom developers and themes for days. the locked bootloader really sucks but by looking at the phone and all the themes out I doubt anyone who isn't in the know would know its not fully unlocked.
I hadn't been in the fascinate forums for a bit but it does look like they have quite a few things happening. Time to root wifes fascinate.
i just rooted my buddies facinate....it seemed there were many more options for it.
i dont know why; but id rather have my x....i like it a lot. i know thats no awnser.
the only awnser i can give is that the facinate seemed to have a lot more options to play with as far as customizing.
with the x you pretty much have fission, apex, liberty....the 342 leak.
Hello all. Anyone know of a good ROM for the Droid X. I a currently running 2.2.2 Froyo. ([email protected] #2) is the kernel version. Yes my Droid X is rooted using superuser v3.0.4 Thanks
release the fists of iron
Liberty 2.0 is a pretty cool ROM. It's Froyo too, so it'd be a fairly easy upgrade.
I've read that while GB ROMs are out for the DX, the wireless tether function is much harder to incorporate. Big Red worked hard on fixing the exploit that allows for wireless tethering, so if you want a ROM that can do that for free, better stick with Froyo ROMs.
My girl has a DX and I put Liberty on for her. She wanted speed, reliability, and tethering.
It runs fast, and it's smooth as silk. Her only complaint is that it's a very masculine-looking Rom - very metallic and yellow. Kinda has a quasi-military look about it. There's nothing cute and iPhoney about Liberty.
I wish the DroidX was as easy to mod as my HTC Incredible. I've been having a blast flashing stuff on my phone for over a year, the the Droid X fought me tooth and nail.
I wish the DX had the ability to run the Sense UI from HTC. I missed Sense a lot while working on that phone.

Agreed, this has no business in the dev section.
OP, take more care next time...
How about the good old stock ROM?
Advantages:
Largest user base, and by a very large margin.
No work needed to install it.
Automatic OTA updates by Verizon, even while you sleep.
Full technical support crew at Verizon store or via website; no need to hide your phone from them or play games like SBF before bringing your phone to them.
Most app developers test their apps against this ROM.
If something is really wrong with this ROM, very many people will complain.
Camera, video, HDMI output, Netflix, etc. all work fine.
There definitely are much worse ROMs out there that can cause excessive battery drain, cripple hardware features, cause apps to fail, etc.

If you can get a Droid X for a good price, you should take the opportunity.
It's very good device with many rom options. You won't be disappointed.

Depends on the price. And read up on it before you do and know what you're getting into, or the community just might drive you crazy. Great support for how old it is, but you will be hearing about the bootloader until your head explodes.

Im sure there are people that will dissagree with me but I love my dx and have had very little trouble with it. If you can get it cheap go for it why not there are some good roms out there if you dont like the stock system. Lately I have flashed alot of different roms on it and its really not bad to work with I'm still having fun with it
I'd have to say, after about 18-19 months with one, you should pass. I'd get an HTC Incredible/2, or Thunderbolt. I had a lot of problems with mine, and I'm actually on my 3rd replacement device. I've had strangers tell me of similar problems.
I've had much better luck since rooting and installing Liberty ROM v3, but overall I'd say there are better devices out there.
I've also sworn off Motorola for good, or at least until they get rid of Blur. They really know how to ruin a good piece of hardware. It's just terribly slow and unstable. If you get a DX, plan on rooting and flashing something else onto it.
Oh, and as another user has already mentioned, the bootloader can cause problems, especially with the latest update. You have to avoid update .621 if you want to flash a different ROM onto it. I don't think other devices are as problematic in this regard.
OK for a good price. It is a little larger than most phones (a little big to place in a pocket .)
I'm not sure if you're talking from a straight user perspective or someone who is going to muck around a bit with their phone customizing it. For a straight user who isn't going to root it and/or go beyond what Verizon wants you to do with it then I'd say you should skip it and just get whatever new mid to top of the line Android is within your budget.
If you're looking for a phone you can muck around with and truly customize on the cheap then I would definitely recommend the X, especially since you can pick them up for about $100 off of craigslist

I have to disagree with this guy. First off it doesn't matter if the device has blur or not because you can install a custom rom that is ASOP and doesn't even have blur. Motorola in my opinion makes the best hardware and just because the bootloader is locked doesn't mean you can't do a lot with the device. This forum is DEAD for the droid x. Look on rootzwiki and you will find a ICS gem named Gummy rom from Kejar. You won't be disappointed.
As others have mentioned it depends on your situation. If you're looking for a phone to purchase for cheap without a contract, then yes, the X might be one to look at.
Personally if I had to look for something cheap right now my search would be for something with an unlocked bootloader, some decent ROM support and decent battery life.
I am guessing the Incredible 2 might fit that bill.... I'm not sure of any issues the phone may have natively but it is a more powerful phone. Probably would be a bit more expensive though.
NOTE: IF YOU BUY A DROID X AND INTEND TO ROOT/ROM (you should be planning this b/c the stock Droid X is slow and clunky) MAKE SURE IT HASN'T BEEN UPDATED TO SYSTEM VERSION .621.
.605, .602, .596, .595, .340, etc are all fine.

Actually, I think we're agreeing. I was saying if you get one, plan to flash it and get rid of Blur.
I've had hardware issues with it also, but overall, with the right Custom ROM, it can be a good experience.
As someone else has noted, if you aren't planning to root/flash this phone, you're better off with a more user-friendly device, like a Samsung or an HTC.
But, again, just my $0.02.
I still have a Droid X purchased in the release date and I never had problems with, however is getting outdated and becoming slow so it will be replaced by a HTC Rezound next week.
Great phone if you can find a cheap one in great shape. Lots of Dev community support.

Just interested to see what people are running =D

I'm running MIUI 4-5-2012 by Wizard0f0. It's the only currently maintained ROM that appears to be stable, fast AND have almost no bugs. Most of the other ROMs (including gummy) have to many bugs for my taste (like camera or MMS or Bluetooth not working properly)
That said, I'm keeping my eyes on gummy and a few others in hopes of a fast, stable, debugged ROM with slightly better battery life. I'm not holding my breath though b/c the other ROMs seem more focused on incorporating ICS framework than getting everything working as it should. Oh well, I guess we'll just wait and see.
Now i am using x if you getting this in a good price than you should buy it.. It is good because of its nice features ..You won't be disappointed...Don't think too much about that just buy it..

I don't know as I'd necessarily agree with that. 4.3" really isn't that abnormally big any more. You have devices like the Galaxy Nexus, Razor, etc coming out now at every turn. They all seem to be going between 4" and 4.65" or something.
I have one I use on WiFi only, really happy with it. Would be happier with an unlocked bootloader.
