Hey,
Just wanted to share that after 11 months of frustration with my Eris and 3 replacements, Verizon offered to overnight an Incredible to me!
Been writing articles on my blog http://www.jonsuh.com for Eris users, and it looks like I'll be writing articles to help Incredible users now
I'll be seein you in all more often in a couple of days!
Used your site to Root and flash my wife's Eris which basically gave her a new phone. I have a DINC and look forward to seeing what you have to say about it. This is the best phone I've ever owned. I recently Rooted and flashed Sky-Raider Vanilla on my DINC, very stable so far and everything seems to work.
After much frustration with the Eris, I too have switched to the Incredible. I picked up one off of CL that was virtually brand new. I had pretty much gone through the same things you did with the Eris and was running KaosFroyo, a huge improvement from when I first got my Eris running 1.5 on 1/2/2010. But WOW, I can't believe what I've been missing. I immediately rooted the Incredible and am currently running Virtuous for my first INC ROM. Unbelievable how fast it seems, especially anything involving network access, it's sooooo much faster. Looking forward to using the Inc more!!!

I'm very excited about the Incredible. I had used a coworker's the other day and the response was remarkable, considering even running KaosFroyo how sluggish the Eris can be.
I should be getting it tonight so I'll be sure to root it and flash it ASAP. Will report back
Charging my Incredible as we speak!
i recently just did a trade with someone, my droid1 for an dinc..im really excited..it is coming in on tuesday, cant wait to load up the desire hd rom..so pumped for the flip clock haha
Well, after getting my Incredible and powering it up, I forgot how much I really missed Sense! Being able to use the widgets and apps that I used to depend on so much months ago felt really good. Running Sense without it lagging like crazy like my Eris did was great.
I was successfully able to root, and perform S-OFF and full nand. Being on a Mac, Unrevoked's method was a piece of cake.
For the sake of trying and without going "fancy," per say, I flashed the latest version of Cyanogenmod, only to immediately want to go back to Sense, haha. Although I love LauncherPro and the options CyanogenMod opens up, the inability to use the Sense widgets sucks.
Therefore, currently downloading the Virtuous ROM. If unsatisfied for any reason, I may just end up restoring stock Sense and keep root.
If I have one gripe, it's the lack of trackball notifications. I really did like it on my Eris, but oh well. I'm willing to deal with it
All in all, very satisifed with the Incredible. May end up using my upgrade at the end of the year with one of the holiday Droids and sell my DINC but before Verizon kicks in the tiered data plans so I can grandfather it in for a year or two, but we'll see!
Glad to be a DINC owner.
I'm glad you are all enjoying your Incredibles.

Glad you are enjoying your new toy. If you like sense, then you should like Virtuous ROM. It is completely stock. It is just optimized. See you around the forum.

Currently have the droid and not overly impressed. To be hones, aside from Google Nav, I'm already pretty bored with it. Seems like most people that opted for the Eris love it, whereas most Droid owners are mostly complaining.
Still in my 30 days with Verizon and am considering swapping out for the Eris, but not sure if it would be a step backward from a hardware perspective. I love the fact that it is HTC based and therefore the options of custom ROM's, etc. when made available is great. However, I'm somewhat skeptical about the seemingly dated hardware it is running on.
Any Eris owners that have some experience using both that can post why they chose the Eris? Is Sense UI that big of a deal?
Thanks in advance...
In my opinion the eris is a great phone so far. My buddy who is a iPhone user played with it today and he was very impressed by it. I do think the sence UI makes a world of difference. I have not used the moto droid yet, but if you not happy than I would think about switching. Goodluck
I love my eris, I only have 1 complant about it. The damn preinstalled apps that htc puts on there. I really feel that the inability to uninstall those apps go against the spirit of android and its open source roots
I would say that sense and all the other HTC improvements such as multitouch web browser are what the eris have going for it. The droid's processor would really be the only thing that I would like in my hero or your eris. The keyboard on that phone was horrible. I tried it out for a day and couldn't get to liking that hardware keyboard at all and software is worse than HTC. So it's interface or processor.
why are so many of these threads poping up?
Do you want us to convince you into getting the Eris?
Try to do your own research, go to a Verizion store and mess with the Eris or check sites like droiddog.com where they go through every last detail about the damn thing.
remember google is your friend
I have both. I love my Incredible, I like this phone except that I want new ROMs for it (Vanilla!) and to be able to upgrade the kernel, etc
Is this ever going to be possible on this phone? I've heard the rumors that it's not ever really going to take off in development.
Hardware wise, this phone is perfect, IMO. But not being able to dink with it like I do my DINC is a MAJOR drawback. I hate blur (sense is by far the best OEM UI - the samsung one is the worst by a longshot), but can live with some aspects of it. Let me use an ASOP rom, for the love of god!
I'm used to SkyRaider, Virtuous, Cyanogen, etc as options but this one has "Froyo and Deodexed" as the only real option. Perhaps when the official 2.2 is out? I just don't want to waste my time with it if I'm going to just never be able to customize it the way I want.
If you have a inc wait for the next gen large moto phone to come out. I love this phone but unless u have a eris or a d1 I wouldnt say its worth almost 600 bucks to get, especially when u allready have a inc in hand.

I'm sorta in a similar boat. I got an incredible a few weeks back and although I like the device, I have my issues. I initiated an exchange yesterday and just waiting on the x to arrive.
You seem to be attached to custom roms which the incredible is a safer bet with. The X doesn't have much yet and you'd be gambling on them arriving. And if you're not getting an upgrade cost then I doubt it makes sense. The X isn't a huge upgrade imo.

Cost isn't a factor, I just really want something I can force to do my bidding. Im not switching phones, I can obtain any phone I like (literally the only perk of my job), but I don't want to switch all my crap over to this phone if there will be non-existent dev support for it
With the droid x rooted, and ota froyo just around the corner, you can lighten it enough to do just what you want. The platform is useable enough without having to dink with it too much. A vanilla rom is bound to show up, with as quick as the community is moving these days. A locked bootloader is rather inconsequential anymore.
I’ll be first
Look's like there is only few people who own this phone, but some threads have 1000+ views, so I wanna know how many off us is waiting for update (or Roms, or sbf to unbrick theirs phones )
Check the other threads, several so far, trying to keep from bricking this one because as soon as my daughter gets to upgrade her phone for free I am giving her this Bravo and I will get something better to play with.
The Bravo platform is a nice phone for your kid, maybe you wife, unless she too is adventurous, but certainly it's not for those who want to mod.
I'm not able to upgrade for a few months but love the bravo. its my first android so prefect but I am not new to modding. really big into jailbreaking and modding iphone and recently my ps3a well but would love to mod the bravo and try new roms. got it rooted debloated and over clocked but it is never enough, right. lol going to keep holding out for an update and for people smarter than me to deliver the tools that will enable us to do so.
I don't have one but my Son does. And I am the guy that roots and enables the goodies on the phones, so I think I count.
I just bought a Bravo and I'm excited to start modifications.
This is my first Android, I've spent a lot of time with WinMo.
I am waiting for 2.2 indeed.
For the madness to begin!
lol
Had mine for a month and love it. Only downside it the camera, but that's why I have a canon. Just saw on the Motorola support forum that they are getting voluteers to test 2.2 before they roll it out.
I AM WAITING FOR 2.2. It's so annoying not being able to do anything with this phone.
I use a Bravo. I want 2.2. Mostly just for flash.
I bought a Bravo, and i stayed exciting when i saw that it has similiar hardware that the Defy.
I hope that came one Good ROM for Bravo like i am seeing ROM's for Defy
I had an iphone 3g for a while, modded the bajesus out of it...fell out of the car one night when my girlfriend wanted to make a late night walmart run...then used my cingular 8125 till I finally broke down and got my bravo in an at&t store....i like it so far...just want to upgrade!!

I love the Bravo; it's an overlooked awesome phone. Here is some inside info Motorola and AT&T had to drop the Bravo from marketing because of conflicts with other phones with lesser power and features and the iPhone 4 had just dropped. The Bravo is no iPhone 4 but it is better than a 3GS and all around it was a better deal, I got mine for free. There are a couple of hardware guys at work that have modified the back of the phone to hold 4 32 GB MicroSD (128 GB) cards crazy! They keep tons of music and movies on the phones. It's a pretty cool setup and should be out soon for the Bravo and the Atrix and other phones. Even a micro SSD 300GB backing for the 4 core Nvidia Phone.
The Future is Bright for the Bravo and Motorola.
Aight...
Okay, so 2.2.1 just got pushed to Bravo. I know Bandroidx is throwing one down. Pretty stoked on this development. Can't wait to see what ya' got Bando!!!
Have one. It's a great little phone!
I've got one, my first smart phone, finally brokedown and replaced my Plam TX
i own a bravo too.
its compact, nice little phone. not too big, not too small. just about right. one major thing i hate about bravo is the atypical shape. :?
I've had my bravo since january. Couldn't stand using my old iPhone 3G anymore. Finally got my phone rooted, overclocked, and rommed two weeks ago. Loving the phone even though I've been having a fair bit of lag if I don't restart my phone once/twice daily, which didn't start at all until after the 2.2 update.

1-2 times a day? Damn. I usually don't have to reboot unless I do something that requires it, but I usually reboot every few days just to keep the phone running fast and smooth.

Same here, I used to reboot nightly, but now I'm doing it every three nights or so. I also don't really notice much difference between pre-reboot and post-reboot.
I've been phoneless for several months now since my Curve 8320 took a dump, and now I think I'm going to go for an Atrix.
The thing is, MotoBlur is incredibly unnappealing and I'll be rooting and flashing GingerBlur from Day 1 (or a few days after). I know the Atrix is the best device AT&T currently has, but am I silly for purchasing this handset just to flash a custom ROM?
There don't seem to be any strong contenders coming out in a month or less so I feel like this is my only option.
edit: also is there anything I should know before I buy? thanks!
I moved from a Bold to an Atrix about 2 months ago (and am currently rocking GingerBlur 3.5). I love the device and all of the flexibility that it allows.
I personally (people in glass houses and all. . .) wouldn't think that you were dumb for adding a custom ROM to an Android device--isn't that part of the point behind Android?

Well, I guess when I ask that question I really mean "what ever will I do when support for GingerBlur ceases to exist?" I'm more of a vanilla Android guy than a heavily modified Android guy. Not to mention I'm very afraid of bricking the device, despite being pretty tech savvy..
Sorry for the double post, and I apologize if this thread is going in the wrong direction, but is there any reason my phone should brick if I explicitly follow the directions on rooting and installing a ROM?
Also, how easy is to flash back to stock for OTA updates or other things? Are there any lasting side effects of this?
I'm pretty much in the same boat.
I was tired of only having Edge data (Unlocked tmo on at), and I was holding out for something with a physical keyboard but I settled on the Atrix.
The verdict is still out for me.
I'm managing to get by with the stock rom (rooted). The biggest thing I hate about the whole blur thing is the contacts and sms apps. This was easily solved by running GoContacts, and Gosms. Installing ADW gave me the feel that I was used to as well.
I just took all the blur widgets and everything and put it in the garbage.
Just don't add a million accounts to it.
Basically I see zero blur and I'm still running. Besides hogging some resources.
That or get a 3rd party launcher.
Gladiatrix would be a good option. It removes the blur and att bloat, bit keeps stock theme. You will need root and tenfars recovery installed.

Your not silly for purchasing a device just to flash a custom rom, but the Atrix is a silly choice if you like custom roms. I'd go with the Inspire or Infuse if I were you or better yet wait just a little longer for the SGS2 or HTC dual core offerings. Trust me you'll be alot happier with those phones, the the Atrix gets old really fast with the Motoblur, locked bootloader, lack of promised features and updates that are late and break more features than they fix. Motorola really blew it with the Atrix and this is coming from an Atrix owner not some HTC or Samsung fanboy. It truly is an awfull phone don't buy it especially if you like custom roms as there's only two and thet both suck.

Normally I'd say yes to the other phones but they are all single core and they'll be outdated in 2 months. AT&T really has no clue releasing single core handsets for $200 on contract. I wouldn't be surprised if the Atrix and Infuse sales numbers were absolutely horrific.
Just get it and use a new launcher. I use launcher plus, but ADW is just as good. There you go, no more ugly blur after thirty seconds. Definitely worth it if you ask me. I don't regret getting the Atrix in the slightest. Plus, there's starting to be a lot of games for Tegra 2 specifically if that matters to you.

Hi all. Just wanted to grab some thoughts of the community here. I am debating between picking up this phone or going with the Dinc 4G. I am on the verizon network with an OG Dinc right now, rooted but just running a plain stock rom, with maybe a different radio or something...its been a long time since I've loaded a different rom lol.
I'm fairly simple. I want a fast phone, I want to be able to change roms, and I want to be able to tether. Right now I run wireless tether. Hell I am not even sure if its needed anymore with the new share everything data plans, don't they have hotspot included? At any rate I have unlimited data which I am sure I will lose during the switch to 4g, but I really don't use much more than a couple GB of data a month anyways.
I don't mind stock roms, in fact I could probably just leave this stock if I can use hotspot with no additional charge, aside from I do like to strip down the bloatware verzon loves to put on their phones. So does anyone think I should go with this phone over the Dinc 4g that has the unlocked bootloader and all that? The main reason I am even considering it is because I am slightly disappointed that the screen on the new dinc is only 4 in. I was hoping for something bigger like a 4.3. I have yet to play with this phone so maybe 4.8 is just too damn big, I dunno but it kinda intrigues me more than the inc and has a faster proc, etc.
As for sense vs touchwiz?...is that what the galaxy has? anyways as far as that goes, I like sense more than just vanilla android. My wife is using a continuium (ugg) and I rooted that for her for the WT option, so if that interface is similar to this one, it kinda feels a little like sense and a lot less like vanilla.
Any thoughts are appereciated. I don't post much around here because I am pretty much a newb to all this kinda stuff. But thanks!
Get this phone. There are already a lot of Roms out and quite a few coming like aokp and aosp, you know roms with No touchwiz. Battery life is amazing with blazer rom and just all in all It's the best phone I've ever had. Screen is amazing, real light weight. I've already had so Amy people be like OMG What phone is that It's beautiful! Plus the built in features like eye stay and direct call are awesome! Go get it, you'll love it.

I had a Dinc too.I didn't get the Dinc 4g. (bleh Verizon wanted branding over the HTC One series), but the big pro isan unlocked bootloader with Dinc 4G. The Verizon S3 does not have an unlocked bootloader. So all ROMS will be based off stock. no radios, no kernels, UNLESS someone can unlocked the bootloader (unlikely) Soooo, If you just want to run rooted apps, (tether, titanium etc) don't mind stock ROMs then go with the S3. I got used to the screen size quick.
Hope this helps
