Hdmi out - Atrix 4G General

Hey guys, I understand the Atrix has got HDMI out, am i right in saying it's not capable of 1080p video playback? And it's waiting for a software update to fix this? Is this the case even if it's rooted? Also, it can't mirror like the optimus 2x for games e.t.c?
Unsure whether to get the Atrix or Optimus 2x, can you guys tell what i can do on the Atrix that i couldn't on the Optimus e.t.c?
Cheers guys,
Ad.

Atrix to do 1080p video capture

Via a software update, the Atrix will eventually upgrade its 720p video capture to a full-HD 1080p. The best just got better

I wonder how long att will delay this update, you know like that froyo update from samsung...
Well, at least the update IS coming. And Motorola has a much better track record for Android updates than Samsung. And now that the iPhone is no longer AT&T exclusive, I doubt we will see so much interference on AT&T's part since iPhone will not longer be their cash crop...
I may be wrong, but I never saw it in the original specs of the Atrix. I don't think it was ever meant to be "from the get go", as it was always said from the beginning that it was a big advantage for the LG O2X, and now it isn't so much.
And what I have noticed is that the specs seem to vary based on the source...
Yes, well this is probably as official as it gets:
http://mediacenter.motorola.com/Fact-Sheets/Motorola-ATRIX-4G-Fact-Sheet-353b.aspx
And I think where ajftl is right about 1080p from the start is for video playback. I haven't checked it up on the early Engadget articles, but I believe it was stated that playback was 1080p and capture was 720p. Now it seems it will be 720p at launch for both, and 1080p for both after the software update. Anyway, 1080p is there, though I agree it sucks to have to wait for an update with no release date announced, but this is far from a deal breaker for me.

They never said it would come out with 1080p video recording. They said it will launch with 1080p playback.

Motorola actually doesn't have that good of a track record.

No ****. U take motorola's history of lying and giving up on updates, then add AT&T's Galaxy S history (Froyo promised since November now), and you can safely say - you won't get 1080p before you have grandkids and no longer care about it.

Well, my old abortion of a Backflip got Eclair some time ago courtesy of Motorola. Motorola is slow, but compared to Samsung they are speed demons at rolling out updates.
The Droid X gets updates pretty regularly. The cliq was a POS, so I can understand how that would take a while.

Not just AT&T's Galaxy S history... all the carriers haven't gotten updates like they should. Samsung's fault, not AT&T's. Also, BGR's review said that it plays 1080p just fine already.
You can browse and play your music, photos, and HD videos right from the phone, even 1080p video content plays back just fine.

Nobody's addressed it yet in the reviews, so who knows? Maybe it can record 1080p already, too.
If it don't come with it I don't think it will have it with the way that have been updating devices lately

Somebody posted like 2 or 3 posts above you that the Droid X gets updates regularly. Why would the Atrix be any different? What updates (or lack thereof) are you referring to? If I had to guess, I'd say that you're probably talking about Samsung, but Samsung isn't Motorola. Samsung apparently would like to sell you a device and then work on selling you another one instead of providing updates. But that has nothing to do with AT&T.
I remember 1080p video recording being pushed as a feature by moto at CES, and I remember seeing it both on moto's and at&t's site right at launch, but I don't have any proof of this. I'm trying to convince a store manager of these facts, and he has asked for some kind of proof. If anyone has anything, I'd love to see it. thanks.
Motorola did state that we will be able to record and play @1080 and it was on their official website for a little while, until they decided to take it down.....which caused confusion among some users.
Anyway, why do we need moto to release this "upgrade" when we already have awesome devs who made this possible months ago?

Already multiple threads disproving the validity of the 1080p hacks as not true, and the resulting videos being of inferior quality to the stock 720p videos. The update for 1080p will most likely update the cameras firmware. If 1080p was as easy as a build.prop edit we would have had this ability from Moto a long time ago.
Whatever the update is, it wont be as simple as an edit.

This is why I posted that specific method/thread; because I tried it myself and there was improvement in terms of video quality as well as the video being twice the size of 720p . I have tried it myself and it works flawlessly on my phone so.... Don't think motorola will do a better job in my case.....if they do decide to release the update.

Let's explore on modding Atrix..

Considering that Xoom is out and holds similar specifications as Atrix. I'm wondering once we get the bootloader cracked and give us the absolute privilege to change/mod the system-wide on Atrix. We'd be able to transfer some files from Xoom to Atrix.
For example: Motorola Xoom has 2MP front facing camera. Once that 2mp camera get sold to a distributor to "repair" the "broken ffc" in other word we can use it to upgrade/mod our low-grade VGA FFC camera?
We buy the MDM9600 chipset and solder it into our Motorola Atrix to make it future-proof for any HSPA+ or LTE network? Motorola Xoom has MDM9600 from my understanding, so that gives us the leverage to hack into the kernel. Maybe load the same system files / kernel to make it function-able chipset?
I guess I'm jumping ahead in the game, I only can say I am incredibly excited to get things started but only get held back with the inability to unlock the bootloader to play with the Atrix's kernel. Otherwise, I'm only dreaming here.
Wouldnt the mobo be different ? Plus Xoom runs on honeycomb while Atrix runs froyo
I only can say it's designed by Motorola and I wouldn't be surprised it's a lot similar. Xoom is a flagship to Google's Gingerbread. It runs same Tegra2 chipset and I don't think it is THAT much of a difference between Xoom and Atrix. Correct me if I'm wrong?

While I can't say for sure what else could be affected, this video (linked below) indicates that it's not all the same. There might be some similarities but it might also be more complex than it seems on the surface.

Nexus One, with broken camera. New phone option.

Hi!
My Nexus One has a broken camera, and i was thinking on moving on to a new phone. I love my Nexus One to pieces, and are very unsure on wich phone to get next. The phone i've been looking at is
LG Optimus X2
Nexus S
Experia Arc
I can't decide wich one to get :/, or maybe I should wait. Is there anthing to wait for?
If someone could shed some light on this subject, and even help me to decide on wich phone to go for, I would greatly apriciate it.
Cheers

Nexus s is outdated. Arc you still have to wait. G2x is up for pre order right now. Go do it lol

Arc is available in Norway. G2X is not :/ I will rule out Nexus S then.
And I will get the phone for free, so the price doesnt matter.
The LG Optimus 2x, seems like a power hog. Dual core is nice and all, but is there really any use for it now?
Arc looks nice, mut the timescape **** looks crap, and the phone itself feels like a plastic toy.
Nexus S, I got no use for a NFC chip in Norway, but the stock android is very nice, and the phone looks might sexy.

If you are ok with paying full price for a phone I would say try to get a g2x or OX2 if you can... dual core phones are getting better battery life with better performance so yes they are worth it. Not only that but if you enjoy a game or two, nvidia is working hand in hand with game devs to make their apps buttery smooth on the tegra2 chips which is a VERY good thing for consumers, devs and hardware producers (nvidia)... everybody wins when everybody starts working together for seamlessness...
call me a fan boy if you want but I am boarding the tegra2 boat because I think nvidia has a good thing going in how they are promoting their hardware as well as how it is performing in the new phones. I think this is the right direction to start taking things because it truly is hard when devs have to produce software for 3 or 4 different SoC's rather than 1 (ideally such as the iphone) or 2 (more like the amd/intel and ati/nvidia battles)... Even in the pc world, nvidia typically works very closely with big game titles to make sure their new products work well together...
fact of the matter is, once the barrier between the O2x and the G2x gets broken, i see a lot of development for these two phones and a bright next 12 or so months...
Aww. Apparently the company has already ordered a Nexus S to me, and it's getting delivered today. I could return it and wait for a O2x to be delivered, but that is some afterwork. Are the diffrences really that huge between Nexus S and O2x?
Nexus S is still a really solid phone, you will get updates directly from google when available, Hummingbird CPU isn't slow against a dual core CPU, 16GB of storage is nice, etc.

[Q] Samsung Gear with LG G2

I have a LG G2 with AT&T that I love. I also have the Sony Smartwatch 2 which is good but doesnt really compare against the Samsung Gear (for my needs).
I would love to keep the LG G2 (I switched from a S4 and compared to the LG G2, the screen on the LG G2 is much better, my opinion)
I did a search and noticed that this question was asked before but it has been a while.
I know the Gear has been working almost flawlessly with the HTC One. I am wondering if anyone has tried it with the LG G2 lately with any luck?
The last thing I want to do is switch back to the S4 just for the Gear.
Thanks

I just want Google to come out with a Nexus watch so it can work with any Android smartphone. I don't know if Samsung in the 2nd generation of the Galaxy Gear will open it up to all Android devices or keep it to themselves to make it exclusive so that you have to buy a Samsung smartphone.
They'll keep it exclusive, because that is what apple would do.

I concur. Why limit your potential clients. It's not like there is anything advanced going on there. I'm sure the software and programming is hacked to hell first, to make it work, and second, to keep it exclusive though. Might make it very difficult to make it universally open. We'll have to see what happens, though I won't be picking it up. I hate Samsung hardware.
I'm sure LG will jump on the boat. Apple, Samsung, Sony, and Motorola all have watches in the pipe or being released soon, so it's just a matter of time.

Funny you mention the flex screen. This is why I have almost no doubt a watch will be released. Rather than have a slab for a screen, they can create a watch that curves with the wrist. In addition, the ultra low power requirements of OLED screens will lead to outstanding battery life.
I would definately prefer a Nexus watch or LG watch (assuming they are better than the Gear). I have the Sony SmartWatch 2, and its very very weak comparing to the Gear.
It may not be that easy making a smartwatch. Look at Sony, they are a Monster company that has been making some pretty smart watches for at least 50 years. I would have thought they would have the best smartwatch. But its Samsung who currently hold the crown.
Back to the topic, Anyone tried getting the Gear to work with the LG G2. We seriously dont get that much support here for the G2 vs HTC One and S4 etc.
With a tear in my eye I announce that I went out and bought a Samsung Gear and Samsung S4. I have retired my G2 and will sell it on craigslist (along with the Sony SmartWatch 2). Going from S4 to G2 to S4 really makes you appreciate the G2. Hopefully someone figures out a way to get the Gear to work with the G2 in the next month or so. Oh G2... you will be missed.

[Q] What do you think about lg softwear?

I really want to buy the lg g2 I think this phone is the best for me, but there is one thing that bothers me and its the software. The clean android experience like in nexus looks way better. What do you think about the software? Is it such a big difference? Btw, When do you think the lg g2 will stop getting updates?
Thanks!
